Baltimore Orioles U 9 -120 (Garcia - R, Lopez - R)
It seems like an eternity since the Orioles were atop the AL East standings for more than two months. In the early part of the season, Baltimore was one of the top offensive teams in the league but they have since fallen on hard times going a disastrous 2-12 in the most recent 14 outings. I will admit that the first pair of games in this weekend series have been high scoring as visiting Chicago has swatted 5 homers in two days. The final score on Saturday was 9-6 which is the main reason why we have an inflated posted total tonight. Even though they have 5 roundtrippers already this weekend, the bottom line is that Chicago is NOT a homerun hitting team as the offense depends on "small ball". Chicago's Freddy Garcia has won SIX straight decisions on the road. His ERA in the past seven outings on the highway (2.82) shows you why Garcia has been so successful in enemy ballparks. Baltimore's hottest pitcher in July (Daniel Cabrera) was on the mound yesterday but had to leave early due to injury. That means the Orioles bullpen is in desperate need of a break after being stretched to the limit on Saturday. There is no question that Rodrigo Lopez has the ability to give the Baltimore bullpen a break when you consider his fine 2.96 ERA in the past four assignments. Here is a stunning angle that has held up all season: THE WHITE SOX ARE 12-3 UNDER THE TOTAL when coming off a high scoring game that actually played above the posted ! spot!!

Atlanta Braves -185 (Duke - L, Hudson - R)

Zach Duke is 3-0 for his young career with a 0.87 ERA. The lefty didn’t last long in his last trip to the hill but it was not his fault. Duke went only 2 innings and gave up 2 hits but didn’t return after a 42 minute rain delay midway thru the 3rd inning. Duke will face won of the hottest teams in the majors this afternoon.

Atlanta loves to see lefties on the opposing hill and Duke will need his best stuff this afternoon as the Braves are 18-8 against LHP this season. Atlanta has won 6 straight games and 11 of their last 15. They own a 5 game lead in the East and also strengthened their bullpen by trading for Kyle Farnsworth yesterday.

The Pirates were sitting at .500 on June 11th but since then they’ve posted a 14-31 record including 5 straight losses and 14 of their last 19. Tim Hudson takes the hill this afternoon and the former “A” is 3-0 during the day with a 1.77 ERA. The right-hander is also 4-1 at home with a 2.70 ERA.

Tonight's FREE pick is where I am going to deal with the law of percentages. Minnesota lost for the sixth consecutive time last night. The last time the Twins went on an 0-6 skid was way back in the 2003 campaign so the "due theory" is in full effect this evening. I love to side with an underdog team who has a starter capable of keeping his team in the game until the late innings when anything can happen. Carlos Silva is 0-2 in his last four starts for the Twins even though he has posted an excellent 2.10 ERA during that span. What is incredible about Silva is his impeccable control where he has issued only SEVEN walks the entire season! Silva will be seeking to go 5-2 at home for the campaign. Oakland continues to be baseball's hottest team as they are now on a 16-3 overall tear. However, Rich Hard! en allowed a career high 12 HITS in just 5.1 innings last time out for the Atheltics who I feel are beatable tonight.

You seen all my previous posts & you know who i am, i know people don't like paying for plays but the amount i charge is peanuts. Well here's a Preseason Freebie for you.

Atlanta +1 over Indianapolis

This game will be odd to say the least. No beer in the crowd, but plenty of Sushi. Not exactly Football, but its good to see other cultures learning our countries ultimate sport. One thing do I find interesting is that Atlanta's head coach Jim Mora seems to be very serious about this trip while Colts coach Tony Dungy wants his players to soak up the moment and enjoy the trip to Tokyo. Payton Manning clearly is a better passing QB, but on this horrible playing surface he along with Falcons QB Mike Vick will see little playing time. The Falcons have great depth in the QB area and in the preseason that is the #1 factor in handicapping. The two backups in Matt Schuab and Ty Detmer have been starters in this league and should fill in well for Vick if he plays at all. Indy's backups are weak to say the least. The Colts Edgerrin James did not want to even fly with the team and wont get much time and the injury to Brandon Stokley will have Dungy paying extra attention to resting the big gun receivers. You can never put to much stock in a preseason game being played 13 hours away, but under these conditions I do see some value in this play. If you are up at 5am to watch this game then you are nuts so you mind as well put some action on it!
