You are right about that-I used to have a very good friend, whom I have not spoken to in two years.
We used to have civil conversations, but when HE started ther namecalling about democrats(not me about Republicans) first, and calling my sources garbage (New York Times and Seymour Hersch for example)(his source was the New York Post in comparison), and he didn't stop as I asked him too, I wished him a "nice life."
It was the best decision I ever made.
The relationship with my former friend goes back at least 25+ years.
We were good personal friends through work, and actually he was my gambling buddy also.
Up until the time we broke off our friendship. our discussions rarely centered around politics-it was mostly about gambling and other things in life.
It was just in the 6 months or so leading up to the breakup that he became too arrogant and vocal and tried to get my change over to his Republican way of thinking while knocking ALL democrats and their thinking.
I am better off without him, and I am sure he probably doesn't miss me either.
From my point of view, I outgrew him
On a brighter note, married life is great. She is a great lady and has all the qualities I want in a lady.
We both care deeply for one another.
Thanks for asking.

Ah, now it's on, bee-otch! You may be able to get away with insulting the President, but no one talks smack about The View. Wait, what am I saying? Everyone talks smack about The View. It's incredibly talk-smackable, or smack-talkable, or whatever. Anyway, I missed this morning's episode because I was busy engaging in one of forty million other activities I enjoy instead of watching that particular yakfest, but apparently the ladies took some objection to a comment one of the Dixie Chicks made to Newsweek. One member stated, "Would Bruce do The View?" referring to Bruce Springsteen and his career path, which the Dixie Chicks hope to emulate. I'm not sure which is stranger to me, their attack on The View or that they actually think they're in the same league as Bruce Springsteen.
Dixie Chicks Diss 'The View'
The women of The View were hopping mad at the country-music group The Dixie Chicks this morning.
Their first topic of the day: a Dixie Chicks interview in Newsweek in which one of the members said the group tries to follow the kind of career path that Bruce Springsteen does and "would Bruce do The View?"
Joy Behar ripped up the magazine issue and said that it's one thing to diss the Bush administration (as the Chicks got in trouble with their fan base for doing), but it's "treason" to diss The View .
The women then rolled some tape from 1998, when The Dixie Chicks DID appear on the show, back when they were just starting out. They spent the rest of their opening segment dissing the Chicks and naming the many other esteemed guests they have had (at one point, in discussing Oprah Winfrey's new book deal, Star Jones said, "She may not be a Dixie Chick, but...").
When they went to commercial, Meredith Vieira quipped, "The Dixie Chicks are on the line."
I wouldn't want to be on the bad side of these four. Dixie Chicks, it may be time for another apology.
I just read this hole thread and cant beleive all of the hatred going on. Wow, thats why i ALWAYS say, never discuss politics or religion in mixed company. IT NEVER turns out good
JC, to be honest I have no hatred. I'm not obsessed with the worlds situation.

What a surprise? Once again Savage blaming others. Based on your posts and opinions I have a hard time believing it was entirely your former friend's fault.

I have a hard time believing that you can't see through the corruption, deception, crookedness, lies, sinister motivations and so much more regarding what the Bush Administration is all about.

I've said on numerous occassion there's been lies, half-truths etc. I also said Bush and his admistration aren't the first and certainly won't be the last. Was the truth about Iraq stretched? We now know it was. Do I feel invading Iraq was the right thing to do. 1000% YES
I have 1 question that I would like for you to answer honestly. In mid-2003 when Baghdad toppled and Iraqis were celebrating what was your feeling when you watched the celebration on TV?

Instead of focusing on the Bush administration all Americans should focus on our politicians. What both republicans and democrats are doing in regards to Rep. William J. Jefferson case is very disturbing. Both parties feel the search warrant was unjust. Why? Politicians feel they are above the law. Politicians are frightful that this investigation is the beginning. I think we can all say with much certainty that ALL politicians are being bribed.

That is a loaded question:
At the time, I was happy most of the reason being that I thought the war was essentially over meaning that no more soldiers on our side or soldiers and men, women and children on their side would die.
At the time, I didn't have the strong convictions I have now regarding the WMD'S or lack of them; thus at this time I like just about everyone else who was misled was in favor of the war in Iraq for the reasons stated but not because of any by-products of this such as the so-called liberation of Iraq(which is not by my definition liberated anyways).
As I have said, the US has stayed out of the affairs and has not invaded other countries with a dictator if we had no economic interests of being there.
In short my answer to your question is I was happy but only because 1) I thought the war was nearing and end and 2) because I thought the uS had achieved its goals but based on the assumption that there really were WMD'S which represented a threat to the US;this I no longer believe.

Of course we have no interest invading countries that we have no economic interest. This country has no interest in 'taking over the world'.
Unfortunately, our dependency on foreign oil in the Mid-East started before Bush II was born. This country has a huge economic and security risks tied to the region. That's what guys like you don't get. If we left foreign affairs status que, like our previous administration, I truly believe in my heart this country would have been dealt more serious blows than 9/11. Our country took a severe economic hit post 9/11.
Either way we lose. When we ignored attacks we were attacked time and time again. We were considered weak. It only incited the radicals to attack more. If we take the offensive to help insure we do not take another security or economic blow we have guys like Moore, Maher and Savage whining because we didn't win in a blow out.
One final point. I like the rest of the world hates us. They don't hate us because of Iraq. They hate us out of envy. They hated us prior to Iraq. Iraq gave them a valid reason for hating us other than envy.

I totally disagree with most of what you say especially the last paragraph.
As I stated before I myself had an intelligent and edcuated woman from Great Britain;she and her friends can't stand Bush.
Believe me her reasons for despising Bush had nothing to do with envy;some folks are perceptive, have a sense of what is right and don't base their thoughts on material things.
The US may not want to take over the whole world as far as Bush is concerned but only that part with potential financial benefits to his cronies.
Your other contention is also flawed in my opinion-sure you are justified in attacking those who attacked you(Osama) but NOT in attacking a sovereign nation with bogus reason.
Did you ever consider the fact that at least some people in the world consider us an imperialist nation, which in itself inspires hatred and a whole new generation of terrorists?
This country is far from lily pure in its actions and motivations, and it would appear that many people in other countries are aware oif this.
