  • All I know is that a lot of this is an offshoot of a thread I started asking people to watch Bill Maher several weeks ago and to offer comments about it.
Hardly anyone bothered to watch the show, and instead took the opportunity to make general, negative comments about Bill Maher and the guests again without even watching it.
I don't agree with Rush Limbaugh or most of the people who call in, but listen as often as I can.
Sure I read and watch my sources of left wing stuff also, but at least I have a basis for my opinion.
As far as I am concerned, if you didn't take the time to watch the show(assuming you have HBO), then any general comments about Bill Maher are irrelevant to the specific show to which I referred.

Just listen to all three speak and think on their feet sometimes and compare-actually you cannot compare for obvious reasons.

      read this. Kennedy is fine.....LMAO

" Do we operate under a system of equal justice under law?
Or is there one system for the average citizen and another for the high and mighty? "
      ~ Senator Ted Kennedy, 1973

      - Chappaquiddick has been called "the most brilliant cover-up ever achieved in a nation where investigative procedures are well developed and where the principles of equal justice prevail, at least during some of those moments where people are watching."
~ The Last Kennedy by Robert Sherrill

      --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
      - The mysteries of the case continue to haunt Ted Kennedy as well as the authorities who investigated them. Charges of ineptitude and lack of diligence abounded, as did insinuations that the machinery of justice crumbled beneath the power and prestige of the Kennedy family. George Killen, former State Police Detective-Lieutenant, and chief of a never-revealed investigation, lamented that the failure to bring the case to a satisfactory conclusion was "the biggest mistake" of a long and distinguished police career. Senator Kennedy, he said, "killed that girl the same as if he put a gun to her head and pulled the trigger."~ Senatorial Privilege by Leo Damore

      • I agree with JC's earlier comment, so I will keep my thoughts to myself for the time being as I have nothing new to add at this point. However, I do want to say that citing the over 2000 service people killed in Iraq is only part of the picture and, unfair to those who have served there. There are over 17,000 US soilders who have been wounded in Iraq, many will never lead a "normal" life as they new it before Iraq. HBO has a great non-partisan documentary called Bahgdad ER. No matter what side you are on, every american should watch and put some meaning behind those numbers. I have the upmost respect for those there, but damn, I wish they weren't. Just brutal...17,000 wounded, many amputees, and over 2,400 dead. It is time to figure out how to get our men and women home.

        • I never said that Kennedy was innocent.
I DO say that BUSH is as guilty if not more guilty than Kennedy for unwarranted/unneeded deaths in Iraq.

They need to have been brought home a long time ago. And pressure needs to be put on the President to do it now. No more innocent lives need to be ruined.

Agree 100% - They should have never gone IMO, but hindsight is 20/20...

I imagine we all agree that the cover-up by Katherine Armstrong, the wealthy Republican lobbyist who owns the ranch where Cheney blasted his hunting partner in the face after he was drinking all afternoon could be called "the most inept cover-up ever.”

Can we move away from Chappaquiddick when you guys talk politics? Seems a bit ridiculous at this point. Cheney was damn lucky he didn’t kill his buddy. An inch to the right, and we could be talking about another accidental death. And, Cheney admitted on Fox he had “a beer or two” that afternoon which is illegal under Texas Hunting regulations: A person or hunting lands commits an offense if that person is under the influence of alcohol or consumes an alcoholic beverage while engaged in hunting activities, or publicly consumes or displays an alcoholic beverage; And we all know he did not get in any legal trouble, where if he were an average Joe, there would have been hell to pay.

So let’s let it go, we all make mistakes. If you are going to argue, argue over the merits of their positions and where they are leading us. Not these outdated arguments, because good luck finding a politician in our current system who at one time hasn’t done something so spineless or dumb that it would make us all sick.

                  • What I find hard to believe is that many of the same folks (mostly Republicans) who made the Monica affair out to the most terrible thing which has ever happened, now defend/ignore or look the other way with Bush and his awful decisions and policies which are "kind" of important and "perhaps" just a bit more important than whether Clinton lied about Monica.
What could possibly be more important than Monica? How about people's lives for openers?

Well I hate to see all of this anger over nothing. Both sides have some good points, just agree to disagree without all of the name calling. JMO, thats why i will not argue politics or religion, it ALWAYS escalates to this.

You are right about that-I used to have a very good friend, whom I have not spoken to in two years.
We used to have civil conversations, but when HE started ther namecalling about democrats(not me about Republicans) first, and calling my sources garbage (New York Times and Seymour Hersch for example)(his source was the New York Post in comparison), and he didn't stop as I asked him too, I wished him a "nice life."
It was the best decision I ever made.
