Without steroids from 2000 through 2004 Bonds would never of hit any where near 700+ homers. Through the 1999 season Bonds hit 445 homers in 14 seasons. In the previous 4 season from 1996-1999 Bonds averaged 38 homers per season. The next 5 season starting at age 36 he averaged almost 52 homers per season. His lowest total was 45 in a 130 games.

I'll agree with that. He would have gone down as one of the greatest. Now his name will forever be tarnished.

I disagree. Here's why. The difference between hitting a baseball out of the park and a fly out to the outfield is a few millimeters on the bat and an inch or two of increased bat speed. With steroids bat speed and power are increased. Without steroids some of Bonds homers would have been fly outs or foul balls.

Frank, I like your posts and you are very knowledgeable, but I respectfully disagree with you on the above. One name for you...Roger Clemens. Find consecutive yrs prior to 2001 that rival 2001- 2005.

We agree to disagree...sort of. I agree that it will allow him to hit a ball farther, but you have to have extroadinary talent to hit it to begin with. And he was not a guy with warning track power prior to '98. Granted, he wasn't a 70 hr guy either.

Hmmm. I knew when I made my post regarding age you would mention Clemens. I believe Clemens used steroids. He's gotten a free pass because:

                        1. He was very well liked.
                        2. He's white.
                        3. He played for the Yanks during the 'steroid era'.

I agree. Hitting a baseball is the single hardest thing to do in all sports. Bonds without steroids would have been one of the greatest. He had all the tools. He can hit with power and average. He could throw and run. Now he'll always be followed by a dark cloud.

Do you put anything into the conspiracy theory? Sitting out the first 50 games of this year...coincendence? I don't think so.... I think this and MJ retiring at the top of his game (before possible being suspended for gambling) reek of something fishy.

And Bonds sitting out most of last year. Makes one wonder.

Who Cares. Either watch and enjoy the game or stop watching. Most people woul do the same thing if the choice was between making millions or in most of these guys cases picking up trash
