Tinman,
I apologize in advance to those I will offend. I love this site, and mean no ill will.
I am no huge Bonds fan, but you do realize that he has been tested for the past few years, and is still one of the most feared hitters in the game. The guy can still crush the ball.
If your bashes are personal, I agree with you.... I don't like the guy either. Back out his homers that you say are not worth counting, and he is still one of the greatest to ever play this game.
Everyone claims that he cheated. So did everyone else that played the freakin game in the mid 90's. He just so happens to still be playin. You think the pitchers he faced didn't.
You don't like the guy?? Deal with it dude, neither do I. I speak for very few, but I am damn tired of hearing these attacks on one of the greatest players to grace this game.
And for disclosure purposes, I do own several Bond's rookie 1987 Fleer cards. I also own Will Clark's cards of the same year that are languising at about $3.00, down from the $40.00 that they once commanded in the early 90's.
It is easy to jump on the "hate Bonds "bandwagon, but I respectfully disagree. The guy (along with McGuire and many others) helped re-energize the game from the debacle of 1994.
Please bash me with facts, cause that is all I am concerned with.

Personally, I don't care if bonds used steriods. I don't care if McGuire did. And my girlfriend asked me, "how do they know that Ruth or Aaron didn't?" Truthfully, we don't know. They exsisted. They didn't test for them.
Baseball was dead. Many were not watching after the last strike. The homerun chase for 61, then Bonds for 72 helped bring back baseball.
IMHO, steriods hepled baseball. And I am sure pitchers are using them also.
My step-father disagrees with me. He says Cal Ripken saved baseball (he's an Orioles fan)
Also, I would really for him to just hit the 2 HR's and get it over with. Tired of hearing about it. If I was the pitcher (expecially if not a great one), I would give it up to him. At least I might get remembered for something.Last edited by meaiken; 05-13-2006, 08:40 PM.Good Luck to everyone

Richie: [after Gus hits a homerun] Wow and he did it without steroids.
Clark: What's steroids?
Richie: Something that makes your pee-pee smaller.
Clark: There must be steroids in macaroni!

I agree Aiken, but the bottom line is that athletes are athletes. The question should be who will be the next 30 game winner? The answer would be no one. Denny's 1968 feat will be the last. If anyone thinks that you had the closers back "in the day". you are wrong. Pitchers went the distance...just like old NFL'rs played both sides.
So what that Yaz won the Triple Crown in 1967..who will be the next? No one probably in our life time, although Albert P has a great chance. Will anyone pitch to him?? Probably not.
Bob Gibson was one of the most feared pitchers in the game..No one talks about that. Who was in the bullpen? Papelbon wasn't even a twinkle in his daddy's eye.
The game has changed. If Bonds could have played when Ruth was playing (and he wouldn't have been eligible), he would have been just as impressive. If you analyze their swings, you would see what I mean.
This argument will continue for decades.

i agree with both of you, bonds is one of the most feared hitters of all time and no matter what anyone says will remain that for the rest of his career and beyond.many have cheated in one way or another but no one bashes them.tin i can understand if you don't like bonds,WHICH I HAPPEN TO LIKE HIM but to say it couldn't happen to a better guy and stuff is really not fair or moral for us grown ups to be saying.i agree like the others just let him be and after the 2 homers it will quiet down for a bit and it will soon be over with.

I respect your opinion, bud dude don't tell me I don't understand the game.
Your "facts" just don't add up to more than a ramble. Your facts are opinions. We all have those.
I think you said he is aliar. Maybe he is, prove it dude.. Go after Raffy..he stated fact before Congress..to me that is a liar.
Forget what I said about the baseball cards bud. It was sarcasm.

Aaron and Ruth cheated??? meaiken, I have much respect for you on this site but that's laughable. In fact Ruth's records would have been more outstanding. He was out partying and drinking often. Don't forget he didn't have the luxury of playing night games. He played 156 games during the day. Many with a hang over. During the dog days of summer.
Steroids tainted nearly a century of historical baseball. Bonds was a very good ball player - regular season. His post season record has abysmal. Only after taking steroids did he become feared. The guy is a cancer. A distraction. He's baseball's version of T.O.
IMO Bonds doesn't even make my top-10 greatest. Maybe he squeezes into my top 20. Aside from his personal achievments he brings NOTHING to his team. He often distance himself from his teammates.
Is it a coincidence that his stats are way down since baseball cracked down on steroids? Look at his career stats. Pre-steroids and post-steroids. No other player in baseball history increased their stats by 50% at the age of 37.

Let me add when Ruth hit 60 homers in 1927 he had 164 RBI. 27 more than Bonds. Ruth batted .356. 28 points better than Bonds. Ruth scored 29 more runs than Bonds. Ruth even had 8 triples. Bonds only 2. Aside from the HR total Ruth's stats blew away Bonds.
Ruth had his best year at 32 year of age. Early 30s for decades was considered players prime. UNTIL steroids.
Comparing Bonds to Ruth is laugable.

After They Took Bonds Out Todayin The Top Of The 9th The Giants The Giants Came Back And Won The Game. Where Was Bonds He Was In The Club House What A Team Player.its His Whole Attitude Not Only Cheating But The Crying He Wants This He Wants That. Its Pretty Good Last Year When He Was Hurt His Own Mananager Even Said He Has Not Contacted Me When He Will Return. If You Say Ruth Or Arron Did Steroids (whitch Everyone Knows Did Not Happen Because Those Types Were Not Even Invented Yet) Who Is To Say Bonds Did Not Take Them His Whole Time He Played Baseball .

I respectfully disagree with the laughable term. To compare the 20's and 30's Yankees to the modern day Giants isn't laughable. I didn't see a walks stat in that figure.
I would rather pitch to Royce Clayton than Gehrig.
To compare Ruth and Bonds is preposterous. When Ruth retired, he was more than 300 home runs ahead of the second place hitter!
