    Tin,
I get your message without the caps. Again, please tell me that B2 isn't a team player

I remember those days. Barry and Bonilla could not carry the team as much as they would have liked. So he had a bad series. Just answer this please ...why do so many pitchers pitch around him today?

        Tin,

I sure hope you aren't taking this wrong. This kind of discussion is great for the game. There is absolutely nothing personal about this.

Bonds will be a non event in a year or two. I barely remember the Al Downing pitch in April 1974 that changed the game. I do remember my dad saying that he thought he would never see that record broken.

I wonder if some day I will be saying the same thing to my grand kids circa 2035.

Just wonder what the nay sayers will be bitchin about then? I hope I will be alive to see..

Think about it...and gl to all in their memories of this eventful time

Compare the number of at bats Ruth had vs. that Bonds had. I would compare these two by the number of at bats they had per home run. I don't know the answer but Ruth must of had less at bats per home run than Bonds, because the season only had 154 games. Also Ruth didn't play every day when he was a pitcher.

But, more important is how much steroids helped Bonds. Take his average home runs per year at Pittsburg, back when his head looked like a normal head, and use that average for the years he was with the Giants, then tell me how many home runs that is.

Are you noticing the number of long fly balls Bonds is hitting this year that don't even make it to the warning track. That's Bonds hitting without steroids. I wonder how many of his 713 home runs would have been long fly ball outs, during the years he was using steroids.

I live in the Bay Area and there was speculation that Bonds should play in Oakland as a DH next year. Behind the sceans the A's as a team don't want any part of him. They have great team chemistry now and want it to stay that way. The Giants team chemistry, or lack of it, is one of the reasons they had a losing record last year and so far this year.

Bottom line. Bonds should not be nominated for the Hall of Fame until Pete Rose is. Forget the steriods. Any rational person can see Bonds lied to the Grand Jury. There is way to much circumstanal evidence showing he did and don't forget, Bonds also cheated on his Income Tax by not declaring his income from autograph signings. If you or I were proven to have cheated on our Income Tax, what would happen to us is exactly what should happen to Bonds. He would be either in a minimum security prison or under house arrest. Either way, he would not be playing baseball. End of record chase.

I respectfully disagree with the laughable term. To compare the 20's and 30's Yankees to the modern day Giants isn't laughable. I didn't see a walks stat in that figure.

I would rather pitch to Royce Clayton than Gehrig.
You clearly are clueless or joking. Gehrig? He's in the top 5 of the greatest baseball players.

Modern day baseball is a joke. The talent is diluted from too many teams and from other sports. In the 20s and 30s there was only ONE pro sport. Baseball! The best athletes played baseball. They didn't have choices. Yes there was only 12 teams but they had the best of the best.

They pitch around him because for the most part the pitchers in baseball this era suck. The pitch around him because the managers today are in a huge spot light. Pitchers pitch scared. Managers manage scared.

If Bonds played in the 20s and 30s they wouldn't intentionally walk him. They throw one at his ear. Bonds would spend more time dusting himself off from getting knocked to the ground.

AGREED! Bonds is hiding behind that shield of a elbow pad he uses. That thing is HUGE! It's like his own personal armor. Although its not big enough to hide hit big f-ing head behind.

I dont care that Bonds used steroids, but it bothers me that he denies that he did anything. You can put Mcguire and Sosa in there with him. I liked Mcguires testimony... he is as guilty as hell! These nagging injuries that ended him are typical of steroid use. How about Sosa...he sure decreased in size. The bottom line is that they are all liars. And Bonds wouldnt be at 713 if he hadnt taken steroids. The kind of shape he is in now i dont think he will ever cacth Aaron any way. That would be justice and that is what he deserves!!!!

Points can be made for both sides........but IMO, here are some of my thoughts..............

Bonds, can't be compared to Ruth.......Stats wise and betterment for BaseBall wise.........Ruth saved the game, and still is the Game....When it was BaseBall........

Cheech has some good points.........The only help the players of Old gave themselves, was playing the next day without a hangover....( and playing for the "Love of the Game"......)That was their enhancement drugs...

HR's per at bats(least ab's per Hr), is definitely Ruths.......Going by memory, I think Ralph Kiner probably holds the record for least ab's per HR.........could be wrong....

I raised 6 sons, and between Bonds and Ruth, which one would I want em to follow their lead, as an individual........Neither......Ruth drank too much, partyed too much, and Bonds is cheatingly beating records, and has made many a racist statements..........

On the BaseBall field, I would rather my sons, and tons of little leaugers, want to rather be like Ruth, than Bonds.......

These are strictly my opinions, as this subject could be, and will be beat to death............

The players today, have better equipment, better fields, better training rooms (no such thing to the Old Guys---unless you didn't drink), better trainers, better TV coverage and exposure, than the "Old Timers" who played the "Game", when it was a "Game", for the Love of the "Game"........

To try and compare as to who would win, the Old Yankees vs the New YAnkees, is virtualy impossible, but to say which team I would rather go watch, and bring my family to, is the "Old Guys Games".......

What "Pete Rose" did on the BaseBall field, should still be Roses Awards, cause it was done on the field....without drugs....Gambling, and Tax Evasion doesn't enhance your abilities to play the game.........

Drugs do indeed enhance abilities on the Base Ball field, cause if they didn't, the wouldn't be ilegal.....

If, more like when; Bonds is proven to have used ilegal steroids, then his records should be taken off the books, or a minimum, some giant asteriks denoting how he got there.........

Like I said, this could be beat to death, and it will....Nothing at all against the younger generation, but how can you compare something you didn't witness in person, or constantly see in early days of TV...........

BaseBall, and Ruth, are the same as BasketBall and Jordan, Golf and Palmer, Cycling and Armstrong, Boxing and Ali, and so on.........It's what they did for their Sport (legaly), and the overall impact they had on Kids (the future of America)........

I can visualize a 12 year old "Little Leaguer" telling his "Dad" thet he wants some "Steroids" and a new Bat for Christmas, cause he wants to be just like "Barry Bonds".........breaks my heart..........

What ever your thoughts are, you're entitled to em, I just ask that you look at the Ramifications possible wyhen Kids see all this...........this is also contingent on the fact that it's proven that Bonds has used ilegal steroids...which I say is a matter of time............kapt

                            Well said Frank.

Bonds is an arrogant cheater. He is now trying to clean up his image, which will never work. His teammates can not stand him (ask Jeff Kent or Cory Lidle). He gets booed in every stadium. And I could go on and on.

For those that say he denies taking steriods...He did admit to taking the cream, do you really think that he didn't know anything about that cream?

Steroids came into play and he takes last year off and plays every other day this year. His fly balls that may have been homers a few years back are now fly outs.

Why do they pitch around him? The Giants suck and would you rather pitch to Bonds or Pedro Feliz??
Am I the longest tenured BC member?

Bad idea to compare Bonds' steroid stats to Ruth....I believe someone compiled a stat that if Ruth had hit in today's little league ball parks, he would have had over 900 homers. All the new parks and old ones have moved there fences in from the old days. Ruth also pitched for 5 years.

As far as steroids go...Hell yes I care that they take them. The athletes should be on the same level playing field. No steroids in baseball....PERIOD!

I say, make every one of these prima donna's pee in a cup several times a year, just like they do in the Tour De France. There should be zero tolerance when it comes to steroids. Make them take constant random tests and they all will quit and the stats they get will be REAL stats, not some tainted, steroid bullshit......
