NEEDING ADVICE from those of you out there who bet all the time, please tell me what to do about this problem........After 2 consecutive good years here at BC capping college basketball, i have been atrocious this year, hitting my only GOM but losing way way too much..........In fact, it has gotten so bad that in the past 2 weeks, i will look at at entire slate of games and see nothing i like, and there does not seem to be a cure in sight
to be honest with y'all, even though i have only posted 1 game in the last 10 days, my record is, and i am not kidding, 5-19!!!!!!!!!!!!! thank god i recognize this and know not to post during this time............
so my question is? what do you do when you are slumping so badly that you cannot even muster up the confidence to find 1 game on the slate??
GIVING ADVICE to those that followed and read our boy chung's thread throughout the day yesterday, I think it goes without saying never to do what he did. I love the guy and he is great for this forum but even though we all have to deal with the temptation of doing something like that(and probably at some level, have done similar before), there are so many reason not to do that:
1)if you do that once and you win, eventually you are going to do it and it will lose.....
2)this is a marathon not a sprint (gay cliche i know), but if you stick with this and know what you are doing, you will be somewhere around even in the long run or maybe you can win some money..........
3)from someone that has been there, look at it like drugs, there may be a decent high from winning a game like that but it is nowhere near the low that accompanies losing it, not only do you feel bad for days, sometimes more, that will affect your life and those around you; and personally you will look bad on all those days/weeks you won money and know you erased that in 3 hours
4)you arent doing this to win money........there are a few people here at BC that can probably honestly say they are up in their lifetime of gambling........all you can hope to do is be like the 10-15 people here(i wont name names, you and they know who they are) that are responsible enough to manage their gambling and their money well enough to win. personally, i can tell you in 2003 and 2004 i won a decent amount and this year i lost, and i am pretty good at this (relatively of course)...............even the best handicappers may going a lifetime and never see a streak like 'hoopsjunkie' and he is handling it with and unbelieveable amount of class........what you hope for when you see this is that he takes some of this winning and cashes out, i would hate to see this strak go by the wastewise without him purchasing something and putting some away..........'hoopsjunkie' , thank you for sharing with us your picks!!!!
5)finally, to sum it up and i know i can say this 100 times and you are still going to do what you are going to do, but take any day where you are down a big amount, and while the immediate cure is a double or nothing, there is no substitutre for just playing it out, even if at the end of the week you are still down.............understand, the worst feeling any gambler ever has is losing more than you are willing to lose and even worse when you do it on a game you did not expect too (i.e. we all know chung did not love atlanta last night, it was the only thing last and he forced it)...........when we lose our GOY's or whatever the hell we call it, it is easier to deal with , but dont look back and when someone asks you "what was the game you bet the most i your life on?" , make sure you really liked it!!!!!!!!!!!
Now, that i think about it, please share "What was the biggest bet you ever made?", i think there will be some funny stories........
sorry so long
