You think those white boy's in the twenties could go out and play with today's football and basketball players? I find that hard to believe. But what do I know. I was born in 86. I think Bonds is a great hitter but thats it. He also get the biggest asshole award. Five years ago when I was at the Giants Spring Trainging Complex in Scottsdale I watched him take morning BP. This was the year he broke the hr record. After he was done there were about five boys standing around including me and that was it, asking for his autograph. He looks over and turns his back and starts talking to some chick. Then when he walks into the dugout my mom asked him if he would take a photo. He say's wiht a real arrogant voice, I don't do stand in photos. He said it like he was better than us, that piece of shit. Since that day I have always labeled him as an asshole. Is he better than Ruth? Too hard to determine with such a large time gap. The pitching today is watered down with so many teams today. I think the great players 80 years ago would be great today, but the average players wouldn't make it in todays game. Just my opinon.

What makes you think Ruth couldn't play football? He would have made a great tight end or linebacker. There's no doubt that Ruth could have played football is he desired.

If Bonds is on seroids their is no way he competes with those players you have listed. Wouldn't even be a superstar in this era. But in this country your innocent until proven guilty. I think he is on roids, but I'm not 100% so I can't come to a conclusion.MLB (2014): (3-4) -.9 units

215 by today's standards was huge. The guy was a great athlete. Read his biography.
Oh BTW the guy with the large beer belly stole 17 bases twice. Name a current day ballplayer with a beer belly that has 17 SBs?
The large beer belly guy had more triples than the huge head guy on steroids.

They went after him know that it was feast or nothing with him. How was it feast or famine when the guy hit .342 lifetime??? Certainly adding Dominicans, Puerto Ricans and other Latins to the mix adds great athletes and ballplayers---but until the last few years---how many of those were pitchers?? A small %. The percentage of African-Americans playing MLB has been on the decline for decades because the game does not sell well in many inner cities--and it takes more players to get a game then hoops or football. A quick yahoo search pops up an article in the Sacramento Bee from 2002---a black writer was asked if he could name 10 Black pitchers that were not Latin--heres the list
Darren Oliver, Boston Red Sox Willie Banks, Boston Red Sox Ray King, Milwaukee Brewers Mike Jackson, Minnesota Twins LaTroy Hawkins, Minnesota Twins
Delvin James, Tampa Bay Devil Rays Robert Person, Philadelphia Phillies Arthur Rhodes, Seattle Mariners James Baldwin, Seattle Mariners James Boyd, San Diego Padres. \
Not exactly a monster list
So lets remember when discussing hitters and the integration of baseball---there has not been a dominant influx of non-white pitchers---whether that shows the racism of the sport is another argument--but the fact remains it is a weak argument to claim integration made it appreciably harder to hit MLB pitching.

Ruth brought baseball to its popularity as well. He traveled around putting on hitting shows which helped draw people to the stadiums and popularize baseball. The polo grounds would be standing room only as he changed the way baseball was played with his HR's. Before it was get a single, bunt him over etc.

Here is my conclusion. If Babe Ruth grew up during this era, he would be unbelievable and by far the best player of this era. But if brought him from the past into the future as of now he would be just a good player. The technology, health information, and training techniques now is uncomparable to 80 years ago. Hope this is understandable.MLB (2014): (3-4) -.9 units

Lets compare Bonds pre-steroid days as you guys call it to other players of the early 90's. He was still the best player. It is ridiculus to try and compare the game today to the game in the 20's. If you could magically put bonds back in the 20's he would not come close to Ruth's records. He would hit about 80 HR'S 1 PER GAME until they would walk him everytime. If you magically put ruth in the game today he would be lucky to make contact off any major league pitcher. The game progresses. It is impossible not to.You don't have to look at numbers just watch bonds play a game. He changes every circumstance of every game he plays or not plays.Noone has ever changed the way a single game is played more than Bonds. from the opposing pitcher to his own starting pitcher to the guy that hits anywhere in the lineup with him. Ruth never got intentionally walked with the bases loaded. There are a lot of guys on steroids who don't do the things that bonds does to the mindset of an opposing team.

Here is the number one reason he would not hit as many HRs as u think---he would not be able to hook those pitches on the outside corner into the RF stands, because if he was as close to the plate then hed take a couple in the ear hole---without the armor on his right arm.
