  • Why Ruth is better then Bonds....

I truly feel that Babe Ruth is much better than Bonds and history should always reflect that.....

First off Bonds is a classless racist prick who has never done anything for anyone but himself.

The woods used to make bats now are much harder types of wood then in Ruth's era.

The pitching now is watered down.

    Balls are juiced.

    Bonds is juiced.

Ruth never got to play in Colorado or Arizona.

Bonds plays in a smaller ballpark.

Old Yankee Stadium was 395' to left field...SBC 339
Old Yankee Stadium was 460 ' to left center....SBC 364
Old Yankee Stadium was 490' to center.....SBC 399
Old Yankee Stadium was 429 to right center....SBC 421
Old Yankee Stadium was 344 to right ......SBC 309

Bonds has played in 2729 games
    Ruth played in 2503 games
Bonds hit his home runs in 9137 at bats
Ruth hit his home runs in 8399 at bats

The proof is in the pudding people......

I strongly agree. My best point on Ruth is that in many seasons he personally had more homeruns than some entire teams! Even with his most potent steroids, Bonds didn't do that.

Does anyone else get the feeling that they are just giving the record to Bonds as well??? If you look at the pitches he's been smashing out of the park, they're all directly over the plate, right down the middle, like they want him to smash it out. It's disgusting! I don't want to say it's a set up, but it's like he know exactly what pitch is next!

We should get Spark's input on this. He had season tickets the year Ruth had 60.

I heard Spark was the "Senior" Editor for a local paper back then.

I think Ruth and Bonds are complete different players in two totally different eras. Ruth was a great pitcher as well before he turned into a full time player.
However Bonds also stole a hellvua lot more bases than Ruth ever did. Bonds also has won his share of Gold Gloves.
Bonds uses a much smaller or lighter bat than Ruth.
Ruth used to play some games hung over or drunk...if Bonds had done that he would have put through the ringer.
In today's game there speciality pitchers...starters, middle releif closers..etc, back in Ruth's era the pitcher simply pitched until his arm fell off.
And if you compare the walks per season it also favors Bonds.
The last few years Bonds is lucky to get 3 AB a game where the pitcher doesn't pitch around him.
Labeling Bonds a racist has nothing to do with his playing ability.
I have met both Willie Mays and Hank Aaron and thought that Willie was a very bitter and unfriendly guy. Does that make Mays him any less of a ballplayer...no. Besides Ty Cobb was also considered a racist and dirty player, doesn't take away from his accomplishments?
I think Ruth is one of the all time best, but it also hard to deny Bonds his place among the all time best players as well.

HAHAHAHA exaclty......two different era's of baseball, hard to compare players.........pitching in my mind is better now that what it was back then.........Plus Barry walks alot....he might see a pitch to hit once a night and he BOMBS it out the park.

I don't think that Bonds is better than Ruth, actually Williams or Mays would have shattered Ruth's HR record if the would have not served in the military.
If you want to bash Bonds over steroids that is one thing, but he still is going in the books as one of the game's best players.

I agree that he is a great player but I don't think he should be compared to Ruth, he's not in that class.....

Bonds has 249 more walks then Ruth. That's .84 walks per game for Bonds and .82 walks per game for Ruth.

                          Bonds is a has .300 career avg....Ruth .342
                          Bonds has a .611 slg%......Ruth .690
                          Bonds has a.442 OBP....Ruth .469
                          Bonds has 5582 RBI's.....Ruth 5793
                          Bonds has 1853 Total Bases....Ruth 2213

But yes you are right Bonds was a better base stealer...

Bonds is a great modern era player but he does not compare that's all I'm saying.......

Your entitled to your opinion and I respect it. I may even be a bit blinded by my hatred for this idiot, but this man should not be crowned a KING.
The only way to compare era's is through numbers.

Everyone's ready to crucify Palmiero. Bonds is no better.

The one part of th argument about pitching I do not like is this---there are too many specialized pitchers. True but their areplenty of specialized pitchers WHO SUCK MOOSE C**K. These guys are awful. How does Mike Stanton still have a job, or alan Embree uh cause they are left handed. I am teaching my son (who is 2) to throw left handed because if he can do that and throw an occasional strike at 86 miles an hour, he can make millions in MLB until hes 50. All the advantages the hitters have now with the minature strike zone, the armor they wear, lower mound. Withthe end of the season coming ESPN Classic should be running a replya of the 78 Bucky Dent game--take a look at how far away from the plate those guys are. Take away the armor, and maybe pitcher would be taught to throw strikes. Here is a stat that will show the difference in how the game is pitched today---watch any game, and when the bases are loaded see what the players lifetime avg is. I GUARANTEE that the avergae player will have at least 15 official at bats with the bases loaded PER YEAR. in their career. Official ABs dont include any sac flys or walks or errors that happened with the bases loaded either. The only way for the bases to be jimmy jacked all the time like that is that pitcher WALK WAY 2 MANY PEOPLE. Im a Yankees fan--Cano is a rookie who has batted 2nd, and 7th-9th this year, and I believe he has 17 or 18 ABs with the bases loaded---thats terrible. So while their are more specialists---with the amount of exapnsion in the last 70 years, I feel pitching is very diluted and the idea of the "specialty pitcher" is overrated. Sorry for my rantings celtics72
