ST. JOSEPH'S vs MEMPHIS ..memphis
St. Joseph's and Memphis meet in the first NIT semifinal game in Madison Square Garden in New York. St. Joseph's (23-11 SU/18-13-1 ATS) made it to the Big Apple with a 58-51 win at Texas A&M last Wednesday as +6½ point dogs. Pat Carroll scored a game-high 22 points and pulled down six boards to lead the Hawks. Carroll finished the game 4-of-11 from the floor and a perfect 11-of-11 at the free throw line. Dwayne Lee added 13 points and seven assists for St. Joe's, which converted 12-of-17 free-throw attempts in the second half to post the seven-point win. The Hawks won the battle on the boards, 37-27, in addition to outscoring the Aggies at the free throw line, 22-11. Saint Joseph's has now won four straight games and eight of its last nine overall. Memphis (22-15 SU/22-13-2 ATS) continued to cruise through the NIT with a sound 81-68 win over Vanderbilt on Wednesday as -5½ point home favs. Rodney Carney scored a game-high 26 points and Darius Washington added 23 points and seven assists. Duane Erwin also had a solid game with 10 points and game-high 15 rebounds. Memphis dominated the boards, 40-27, and outscored Vanderbilt at the foul line, 28-9. Both teams have done well away from home this season as St. Joe's is 9-6-1 ATS and Memphis is 10-5-1 ATS. Both teams have also been rolling ATS lately, with St. Joe's going 7-2 ATS and Memphis logging a perfect 8-0 ATS run, but the nod goes to Memphis in this one, who is winning their NIT games by an average of 19.6 ppg. South Carolina and Maryland do battle in the second game of the NIT semifinals. South Carolina (18-13 SU/13-16 ATS) landed in NY via a 69-66 home win over Georgetown on Thursday as -6 point favs. Carlos Powell scored a team-high 21 points and Tre Kelley added 15 points as South Carolina held off Georgetown. Antoine Tisby also scored 11 points for SC, which struggled from the free throw line, going just 16-of-31 (51 percent). The Gamecocks only hit 3-of-10 from three-point land and got out-rebounded 34-26, but still managed the win. Maryland (19-12 SU/12-13 ATS) comes off an 85-73 home win over TCU on Saturday as -11 point chalks. Nik Caner-Medley scored 20 points and Chris McCray and Mike Jones added 18 points apiece for Maryland, while Travis Garrison notched a double-double with 15 points and 10 rebounds. Ekene Ibekwe also added 0 points and eight boards in the win. Maryland converted 13-of-18 free-throws in the second half and made 49.1 percent of their total field goals in the game, while holding the Horned Frogs to just 36.9 percent shooting. Maryland also had a 41-37 edge on the boards. Both teams have not fared well away from home this season, with SC going 4-9 ATS and Maryland going just 3-10 ATS as a traveler.
