Obviously its no secret that DEI has dominated on restrictor plate tracks in recent years, but there's not much wagering value with them.* We'll go with the boss this time and reluctantly leave out Michael Waltrip.* Tony Stewart won the Busch Series race on Saturday, and I expect him to be strong here--he finished 2nd a year ago and this is a race he's never won.* I'm looking for Dale Jarrett to have a "bounce back" year this season and a win at Daytona would start that off nicely.* This is a track that favors the experienced driver, and DJ has more experience here that just about anyone in the field.*

Drivers I'm most concerned about leaving out are Jimmie Johnson, Jeff Gordon and Waltrip.* Just not enough value on these drivers to justify taking a position.* I'd rather have a nice payoff on the drivers in our mix than try to spread things too thin to cover more of the expected contenders.

Finally, we're not going to make him part of our "official" wagering mix but if you're looking for a long shot you could do a lot worse than Scott Wimmer.* Wimmer took third in the Daytona 500 last year, and 5 Dimes has him priced at 110/1 (with a number of other books showing him at 100/1).* It would obviously be an upset should he prevail, but he's a lot better driver than his price indicates and has shown he can run on this track.

Don't usually do matchups on restrictor plate tracks (nor does our RazorSharp NASCAR matchup specialist) so we'll begin matchups next week.

Pittsburgh + 4 , (at) No.25 Villanova (16-6, 6-5) is 3-5 ATS (6-2 SU) as a home favorite, including a (-5) loss to No.9 Syracuse 90-75 last week. No.17 Pittsburgh (18-4, 8-3) is 2-0 (SU & ATS) in its toughest two road games, winning (+5) at No.9 Syracuse 68-64, and (+Cool at No.18 UConn 76-66. The Panthers four losses have come by a combined 14 points. They're 3-0 vs. ranked teams this season, and 3-0 over Nova over the past three seasons.

Florida State + 4 , Georgia Tech (14-8, 5-6) is 3-6 (SU & ATS) last nine games. The Jackets are 1-3 ATS (2-2 SU) as an away favorite. Florida State (11-14, 3-Cool is 2-2 (SU & ATS) as a home dog, including a 91-83 victory over No.5 Wake Forest. The Noles went 4-0 ATS (3-1 SU) as a home dog last season. FSU at home has defeated Tech each of the past four seasons, including an 81-65 victory over then No.7 Tech last season.

Depaul + 1.5 , (at) Marquette (17-8, 5-7) is 3-8 ATS (7-4 SU) at home. In C-USA play, the Eagles rank 11th with a minus 7.7 scoring margin. Depaul (16-6, 8-3) is a C-USA best 20-5 last 25 league games. The Demons are 3-2 (SU & ATS) last five road games. In C-USA play this season, the Demons rank fourth with a plus 5.7 scoring margin. Teams met on Jan.20th, Depaul at home (-3) beat Marquette 85-72.

Duke - 3 , No.5 Wake Forest (22-3, 10-2) is 2-2 (1-3 ATS) at rank opponents this season. No.7 Duke (18-4, 8-4) off losing its last two games (road), will be all out to regain the win column tonight. The Blue Devils are 34-4 last 38 as a home favorite. They're 3-0 (SU & ATS) at home this season vs. ranked opponents. Teams met on Feb.2nd, Wake at home beat Duke 92-89. The Blue Devils "at home" are 4-0 (SU & ATS) over Wake dating back to Jan.'01.
