i used to post the unranked home favorite thread the past two years, have not had the time to do it this year, but i noticed the percentage was like 80-85% the first part of the year and then faded away pretty quickly to get back to that 67% number....

Here is a different kind of advice on gambling that I have learned the hard way over the years:
If you make a bet, especially a big one ON a team and lose, be careful about going AGAINST them in the next game.
Case in point yesterday when I bet that many of the people who bet big on Jets last week against St. louis and lost (actually pushing the line as much as 4 points from the opening) came back and bet big against the Jets yesterday and lost again.
Sometimes you have to have a shell game mentality when it comes to this stuff.

            my 2 cents

Acouple of things I have learned the hard way!!!!!!!!!!
            1.Only make 1 maybe 2 bets a day.i use to bet 4 or 5 and most the time,if I won,it waould add up to the amount of a 1 bet win.If I lost,I would lose a whole lot more.
2.Be careful about unloading on a game.As we all know if it looks like a lock.....guess what!
3.Never double up when you lose or if your money gets so low you decide to dump it on 1 game to get your losses back.TRUST ME!It doesn't work!

These are all very common mistakes and ones we all know well, but find it hard to practice.GL guys.

I would also say that if you are having a bad day and you want to partially bail out, don't do this:
If you see another capper is say 5-0 or 5-1 on the day, and you have NOT played his picks up until now, DON'T play the remaining pick, as it will probably lose;you will probably be too late and you will go further in the hole-Murphy's Law.

I don't have the stats on this, but I like to bet on NFL favorites that open -3.5 and -7.5. I also like to bet on NFL underdogs that open +2.5 and +6.5. Anyone have any statistics or any thoughts on this?

Savage, I agree 100%. I think many sport bettors let their emotions get the best of themselves. They get pissed when a team blows the cover for them. Then the next game they play vs. that same team.

definitely have less experience than most on this site but have been around since the early 90's with this shit. this is a great thread...lots of good advice and pointers. anyone have any info on this one - this weekend was 0-2. i always go against this particular number 6 or 6- thinking most bettors tease these to a pick - they will at least win the game right (GB, SD this week) while the 6 point fave loses outright...have also looked at 9 as well where most people think the win will come by 4 and tease to 3. any thoughts????
its easy to grin when your ship comes in...

Blake, unbelievable post my friend. Thanks for the info!
The 1927 Yankees weren't the best team ever. What everyone fails to realize is that the year before, with the exact same team, they lost to the Cardinals in the World Series.
