Very interesting thread. I never wanted to believe that the great athletics that i love to watch would be fixed, but just to support your thread, i work with a guy who was on the offensive line for the Rutgers Scarlet Knights. I talked to him about the feeling of playing in the big spotlite and then later told him how i like to gamble. He told me that when they were to play teams like Miami, when Miami was a powerhouse and Rutgers was a Limping turtle on valium and the spread was about 40, he said that they would just roll over a little bit. The thinking being that they are going to get blown out any way and are expected to get blown out , what is the difference losing 45 - 0 rather than 35-- 0 in order to make a finacial gain. He said that this is the reason that alot of the high spreads are end up to be ******. Think about it a team like rutgers it means nothing to them if they lose by an extra few points. Just a thought to ponder.

Very good thread
While I don't think the Vikings game was fixed, there were plenty of signs that pointed to it. However, these signs I am speaking of happen in at least one game every week. Since it happens every week, we've become so conditioned to them happening that 2 things have occurred.
1) Those that think games are fixed have more games to say, "See what I mean?"
2) Those that think it's silly can honestly say, "That's Football. It happens every week and you just THINK it's being fixed".
Frerotte fumbled that snap yesterday. It wasn't a fake, if I'm not mistaken. If Tice admitted afterward it was a fake, I didn't hear it. But I watched the game and I'm positive Gus fumbled the snap, that's why Andersen couldn't kick it.Please don't question my record or I will leave!!!!

Miss Piggy
First off let's straighten you out with regard to one of your many insights .... I AM retired and thankfully with more money to last me 3 lifetimes. I'm not bragging - I earned my money with hard work and a little talent.
Now then -
Of course if you read my post calmly and carefully you'd have understood that at no time did I state that the Vikings manipulated the spread ... ( I believe my exact words were " Probably Not " ) I merely posed that as a general question for discussion. The events of the game ending with the prevent defense sure looked suspicious enough to warrant at least a discussion. After all this is an "All Sports Discussion " forum .
Why in the world would you ever think that you'd be banned from this site for giving your opinion ? ( you got a bit personal there and you tried to be insulting .. you failed at it by the way ... only people who mean anything to me can ever hurt my feelings ) but in general exchanging of ideas is a good thing if done correctly - perhaps next time you might consider refraining from using the words " dumbest post " and " Fuck " for openers.
Oh an another thing .. about respect ... after only 39 posts your comment about "losing respect " means nothing to anyone. You haven't earned any respect so who the hell are you to even think that your respect is worth anything ? You earn respect by DEEDS in BC ... not by words. You earn respect with day after day contributions in BC. If you knew that you wouldn't have fired out at a person who works hard every day to earn money for his friends. Hell I'll bet you don't even know the name of the daily report that I post.
If you don't think Vegas and all sportsbooks were extremely concerned over this middle ( the worst nightmare for anyone who takes action on games ) and are not "hands on" in all aspects of gaming .... if you don't think they're concerned over one sided games ... if you don't think they pay attention to each and every detail ... fine. Just say so and go about your business. That would have been perfectly fine.
And if you don't think that a windfall of money means anything to business people .. well that's fine too.
Good luck to you now.

For someone to state that sportbooks aren't concerned when they take too much action on one side is Naive. I've seen many interviews with Vegas books.
Their biggest fear is getting middled. Why does one think they are very reluctant to move the line off 3 or 7.

Coverboy,
Of the entire time I have been reading this post I have never read anything as intelligent and insightful as this thread.I too was one of those that rode the wave of the "service picks".
It is very easy to get caught up in it.But,if you step back and analize the picks over a few weeks, you realize that they are working the point lines.I have begun betting the underdog and feel it is the best way to go.
Thanks for the very informative post.I hope everyone reads it!

Spark My Good Buddy
I think the whole post deals with a sticky subject as it is . lol
Dammit I just knew tempers would start to flare and you know me and how I never allow anyone to get over on me in any way. I can't just walk away - it's a blessing and a curse LOL
But overall the back and forth among all of us today is healthy and it allows us to make new friends and exchange ideas.
Talk with you soon.

Being a Doctor before retiring - I just couldn't.
Hard to explain, ** ... I would like to believe that I had the confidence and the respect of my patients in the community and of my staff, and I felt that I would be leading a " double life " and I'd be betraying the very reason why I was placed on this earth.
Trust means so much ... so does self esteem.
Looking back I'm so glad I didn't . I like what I see when looking in the mirror.
Take care !

Three points to all of the posts.
1- MissPiggy, do you ever watch ESPN News when they interview Books from Vegas Casinos? They always know how much money is on a game and always say that they were "watching that game closely". If that is the case, why does the line jump all over the place more often than not?
2- Cover, great initial post about services. It is funny how a service's reputation can carry you for years without being productive in recent years. For years, I followed NCoast and noe just fade. As far as the game, you either call it a fix or call it "Prevent Defense".
Not sure if you even saw the Titans McNair throw 3 feet over the head of a wide open D. Mason for the 2 point conversion. As it turns out, it didn't matter but it would have put them up 7 instead of the 5.
3-If you or Spark ever get a game that you have inside scoop on, please e-mail Monty and get my addy. I sure as hell will be all over it.Am I the longest tenured BC member?

Some things need to be tattoed on the brain , once again very profound words expressed and once again ( par for the course around here ) mental pygmys blow darts at half of whats intended instead of absorbing the gist of your posts nature .
I myself have witnessed many fixes in my life , and you can read about them on a daily basis at the National Pari-mutuel Organization website and others as well. Not like its a new thing by any means and I clearly remember a few years back when a certain kennel played Iron Madien so loud for days leading up to a race at Derby Lane in which thier pup was a overwhelming favorite , that they incured several citations for disturbing the peace days in advance of said race . After a lengthly investigation and a kennel-hand turning states witness , the cat was out of the bag . Sure the drug tests came-up negitive as to a fix , but not the new pick-up truck paid for in cash soon after the race or the paper-trail left by the controlling parties .
To merely assume that fixes dont take place clearly shows a lack of trips around the block and I commend you on your stance and insights once again .

intersting thread CB, but I seriously doubt phil steele had much to do with that line movement. every preview show was belaboring the fact that starting safety brown was out and about 1-1/2 hrs before gametime it was announced urlacher was inactive. at that time, the line started to really move.
the only service play that I have ever known to really make a difference in vegas was Doc's big 10 GOY. he hit it like 17 years in a row in the '80's and early 90's. if you didn't get down right as that play was released, you lost your line value. the heavy hitters in vegas (wise guys, steam plays) are what moves the lines.
