  • Sunday's Painful Loss

Are certain sporting events fixed with regard to the pointspread outcome ? Yes , some are indeed. !

Do I know this to be a fact ? Yes I do.

Have I ever received first hand information from .. let’s say .. a certain college basketball player who tried to pay off his bill by offering me information … or a certain Raider Running Back over shooting a game of pool about a certain upcoming grudge game vs. The Seahawks …. or a certain N.Y. Met pitcher who would not perform up to par in his start the next day as a 2 – 1 favorite ? YES I HAVE.

Have I ever acted on this information and benefitted from it financially . NO I HAVE NOT.

I just thought some of you would like to know that.

Some sporting events are fixed and if you are a sports purist I apologize for bursting your bubble. Might as well come to grips with that fact now … polls have shown ( ESPN ) that 3% of all college athletes wager on games. This means that probably closer to 10 - 15% actually do . This means that on a Saturday with a ticket of 60 college football games there is a distinct possibility that 8-10 are played with the pointspread in mind. And just think of the possibilities for College Basketball !

Did The Vikings conspire to affect the pointspread outcome of yesterday’s game by allowing The Bears to march down the field AT WILL in the closing minutes ? Hundreds of millions of dollars hung in the balance, and the public ( the usual losers in this type of scenario ) took a bath once again.

Probably Not, but we can not be certain.

We do know the following, however:

    1) At 11:00 AM yesterday morning Northcoast Sports put out a 4* Game of the Month on Minnesota . Prior to that , they had been 9-1 with these very games over the last few years . Since they are an extremely “popular” service the information was transmitted throughout the vast , widespread gambling community and done so very rapidly.

    2) The line which started at 9 1/2 yesterday morning closed at 12 ½ and even 13 by game time - telling us that a TREMENDOUS amount of money was wagered on the Vikes ... probably the most one - sided action so far this year for an NFL game.

    3) Moreover , when The Vikes scored late to lead by 12 ... all the important gambling houses throughout the world were panicking frantically because in addition to losing millions upon millions on Minnesota , losses of additional millions upon millions would have been realized by getting MIDDLED by late Bear action at +12/1/2 and 13 . We're talking serious money here folks. More than we could ever dream of.

Questions arose after the game ... hell it's only natural for us to have sour grapes if we were on The Vikes.

Q : If there was any spread conspiracy , when and how did it occur ? If there was any foul play it had to be done very late in the game just AFTER Minnesota scored the TD which gave them a 12 point lead …. Otherwise they would have never scored the TD in the first place.

Q: Does anyone know whether headset communication between NFL coaches and their crew is overheard and monitored by the NFL ? ( perhaps during that 2 minute warning which always lasts more than 2 minutes )

Q: Did the referees affect the outcome by receiving " instructions" and under the table incentives?

Q: 80% of my NFL wagers are on underdogs. I rarely allow myself to get backdoored. This was a perfect spot for me to jump in and take 13. What the hell was I thinking ? ( LOL )

Here’s the real issue …. We played on an over rated team on the advice of an over rated Sports Service. We had THE WRONG SIDE . We bet on a favorite and betting on favorites by and large is not a winning proposition in the NFL for many reasons: I have 2.

    1) Public bettors are generally “favorite” players and I still maintain that you can’t win money betting with a “ Herd “ mentality. People in large groups are wrong more often than not with the same prediction when money is on the line. To win one must be an individual and have the courage to go against the team being touted by friends, newspapers, and sports services.

    2) The Dreaded Back Door Non - Cover … arguably one of the top 10 worst feelings in the world. REMEMBER THIS …. IF YOU’RE A DOG PLAYER YOU CAN NEVER BE BACK DOORED (like yesterday) Most fixes occur at the expense of the public … most times with a heavily favored team who can “win” a game … but not win by more than a pre – determined amount of points. See that’s the reasoning with which criminals take themselves off the moral hook so they can live with themselves.

Whoever coined the phrase “ Back Door “ really hit the nail on the head … when it happens it feels like we’re getting a rectal examination by a Doctor with poor depth perception.

Whoever invented the Prevent Defense was as crooked as they come .. I don’t know who … do any of you ? I know one thing - he must have gotten very rich by doing so. What a simple yet elaborate way to throw a game !! And what a waste of a great mind.
I can hear John Heisman rolling in his grave…. George Allen, too.

    Here’s What Really Happened ……..

We bet on a team yesterday … a lazy team with a lazy incompetent coaching staff who have their team ill – prepared for many of their games …. A team which can not be trusted to give maximum effort …. A team with an owner having no courage and as a result permits the likes of Dennis Green and Mike Tice to do whatever the hell they want.

We bet on a team who had the playoffs all but clinched last season with a 10 point lead at Arizona with just minutes remaining … ARIZONA , mind you. The team’s players were celebrating on the sidelines before the game had ended and the coaches made no attempt to curtail their suicidal behavior. We all know what followed …. Arizona hung 2 late scores on their sorry asses and danced into the locker room while leaving the stunned Vikings dazed and confused holding their dicks in their hands. (I was on Arizona and I was dancing along with The Cards).

There was a lesson to be learned and one would think that after that tragedy Coach Tice might have a less relaxed attitude and “ advise “ his team NEVER to play soft in any part of any game … no matter how late in the game … no matter what the score may be.

    Who Am I kidding ?

The man coaches on the side lines wearing a Tee Shirt

The owner sits on his fat ass in his luxury box and looks brain dead as he watches his team and his tee – shirted coach underperform each and every year.

Yesterday we wagered on the wrong side . We invested in Failure . It happens …. but - as I’ve always said; “ The next best thing to winning is losing “ . What can we do ? It’s called, Gambling.

Oh and by the way … My College Basketball patient made it to the Globetrotters …. Some of his closest friends became patients of mine and told me some juicy pointspread stories about his college team … ( they paid all their bills in cash ) …. They invited me to parties and I never went to a single one. The Raiders scored a late Rub –It – In touchdown vs. Seattle….. and That Met pitcher left the game in the 4th inning trailing 10 –0.

    The Masses :

Should be required to read this at least " 4 " times , and then have it tattoed on thier brain .

It happens daily and I mean everyday of our lives , rather on a horse , a dog , a man , a team , or a well known league

Its our job ( when we can ) to capitalize on these type situations and benifit if at all possible , but thats not always the case as we are often left outside looking in.

Well pondered , as as usual well said !

        Great Thread!

You've made some valid points. Mostly your statement regarding NC. Many, including you and me, believe that NC has sold out to the offshore books.

Also, I also believe MOST services give out the 'wrong' side of their GOY type picks. Playing the other side. How many times have we seen many services on the same side of a game only to see that selection go down in flames.

They do so intentionally. They have their clients drive the line. Then play the opposite side. In some cases I'm certain they play both sides of the game hoping for a middle. They play their selection before they release it. The public than jumps all over their released pick. Then the service buys back the other side.

I totally agree with you on the services handing out the wrong plays. They would careless if the customers win or lose. They just want the money from them. And know for a fact if they post. GOW, GOM or GOY. They will come running.

Thanks for the posts Coverboy and Frank.

              You're right !

Most services shockingly know little . It's a numbers game and a business. Picking winners is not even an issue with these guys... it's about getting over on insecure people and taking advantage of a crooked system .

I used to get cold called by services and I'd keep them on the line by asking the schmuck questions like " Who is the Ohio State QB .. Who is the Yankee Third Baseman ... Who is The Celtics Center ? ... etc . It was funny how many times there would be a delay and I knew he was groping around and looking up the answers ... Then I'd punk him out and hang up .

" It's going to be frigid in Minnesota this weekend - what do you think of the Over / Under ? ( I asked that Q to someone in the Vikes first year playing in the Metrodome) The Idiot agreed and said he liked the Under ... I swear to God !! LOL

Crime is rampant in sports and sporting services and like all moral people seeing or hearing about crimes committed MAKES ME NAUSEOUS.

We've gotten to know each other very well this past year and we've become good friends... I know you feel the same way .

                Coverboy-superb post!
Do you agree with my contention that the same kind of crap goes on in the NBA and especially in Laker games, mostly near the end of the contest, when only the spread winner re: the side and/or total is at stake?

                  Oh Absolutely Savage -- I mean that's a given

No discussion needed -- it's a plain fact

Anyone who could even think for 1 second that the NBA is crime free is living in denial .

And there's no doubt that they tanked Olympic games and I will take that to the grave

any bettor who actually thinks that pro sports in this day and age are fixable...especially football...is too retarded to bet...period. I'd like for someone to show me how you might go about fixing a game. It doesn't happen.

THE ABOVE WAS POSTED BY A ROOKIE to this site - Neyland. Thought you'd get a laugh out of it. I think Homer has the right idea on pro football - one game. We all do fairly well all week on baseball and usually good on college and then give it back and then some in the NATIONAL FIXED LEAGUE. Great posts and thx for the early basbeall picks.

                      Adding

The Sugar Ray Leonard / Marvin Hagler fight was fixed and I know that first hand.

Got that info 3 days before the fight occured. Leonard was a 3/1 underdog.

Please get that fight and study it carefully ... Very carefully !! Pay close attention to everything Hagler did . He had so many chances to punch up Leonard in the corners but Rat -A -Tatted instead.

He was going through a painful divorce with his wife Bertha at that time.

Afterwards he never fought again - He did deodorant commercials in ITALY

Splendid writeup. I really enjoyed it. And while I agree with your position that the Minnesota/Chicago game probably was not fixed, I am astonished by the number of people who think it was.

The Vikes were never close to covering in this game. Even with an 11 point second-half lead, they would not have looked to score again if they got the ball back. They were lucky to have that margin, as Chicago wasted several first-half opportunities and only took a 6-0 lead rather than a 13-0, 14-0 or even 21-0 lead. They utilized ridiculous play-calling in the second half, which is more a symptom of the ineptitude of Mike Tice and his staff than of a fixed game.

Chicago has played very well in two straight games now as an underdog, and save for an ill-advised pass in the closing seconds of game 1, they would have covered that game as a favorite. In fact, I think Chicago's recent ATS record against Minnesota is pretty good. I laid off the game because I'm a Bears fan and wasn't sure Chicago would cover (but didn't have the heart to bet against them), but giving 11, 12 or 13 points to this team struck me as more than a bit much.

This game was a classic example of the public jumping all over an inflated favorite and getting bitten in the ass. That the services went down on this game as well makes the outcome, and the bitching that followed it, all the more amusing.

BTW, your cracks about Tice wearing a tee-shirt on the sidelines. . . LMAO!!!! I was thinking the same thing watching the game. Dude, at least dress like you're coaching a pro football team.

you should never buy points...period. For it to matter on or off the 3 in the NFL (assuming 20%) 20% of NFL games would have to end on 3. The real number is 14%. And on any other number it's an even worse proposition. And with finals clustering around the number much less frequently in college...buying points on any number is a terrible play. You can call me a loser if you want, but the proof is in the odds...and they're not good when you buy points.
