i do not min paying for this operation to run but i think i would be stupid to pay for the services that i have then pay to be on here and then give what i have out free...now that woudl be stupid on my part, but on the other hand if i got my info free or i didnt contribute anything to the forum as i saw someone who posted earlier in this thread said he made 20 k last year and contributes alot of it by lurking on this forum but this was his first post. so that means all he does is lurk and this was the first time he spoke, which is ok cause u dont have to contribute but i spend a hell of alot of time to post what i have on here and i have paid for it out of my pocket also .
when i could be spending alot more time keeping my info to myself and just lurking on here and not contribute and then maybe i wouldnt have a problem to pay to be here and also since i am well aware of others using the posts that i post to seel their own consensus reports so i know people are using what i post on here to make money on their own.

so thats something to think on either but it really doesnt matter what they decide if i liek it i will stay if i do not like it i will go its as simple as that really.

but this needs to be taken care of before next week and who know what will happen tomorrow night MNF

right now if u go to the front page there are 100 guests lurking on and 83 members on here.
listen if its free to dign up no one has to be a gues hell i think i looked on here as a guest for like a few minutes then i signed up hell if it is free why not sign up?
i mean its free if u dont like afer u sign up then dont come back on here.

im sure they are making money to have this site here , there are advertisers on this site and im almost ositive they have to pay for the ads and that, i woudl think but i do not know for sure though.

the problem isn't having a high speed connection. i have one and couldn't get on today for 45 minutes. it's the server which gets overloaded from too many people which is the problem.

get rid of the lurkers first then see what happens. if that doesn't work, maybe instead of turning it into a pay site we can all contribute a one time fee of $15 or whatever to buy a bad ass server. just some suggestions.

You start charging and you may be legally wacked for making money off of all that service BS anyways.

Create another site elsewhere were those that desire the service info can be directed to go.

You may still have too much demand for this site even after dumping the service thread.

Business sense demands increasing, and not using a bandaid to fix the problem. If it costs more, that comes with the gig.

None of my business as this IS your business.....but why not just pay for another server by passing the costs to your advertisers as a cost of doing business for THEM and not THE COMMON Joe.

After all...Common Joe is the bread and butter of this site that gives the advertisers their desired results in the first place....NOT TO MENTION ALL THE INPUT our regulars give newbies when they ask "Who has a reliable Sports Book they use that I could open up an accont with"......THAT SMALL increase in advertising cost could/should easily pay for either:

A) another server
B) an upgrade to the current to handle the traffic

I am probably all wet on this but a hand full of regulars posting who ignore the advertising is NOT where your money is at. I for one post and play my own and get plays from solid caps here when I agree with their plays so I would not be out much. BUT OTHERS WHO RELY ON YOUR SERVICE would in fact suffer greatly and in the end so will your site.

My bottom line is pass along the cost for a new sever to the Ad Boys who can come up with a few dimes to cover it!

I spent $3500 last year getting a new server that's a dual 2.4 xeon with 2 gigs ram and 2 36 gig SCSI hard drives. There are hosts out there that have servers that aren't even these type of specs with 300 sites on them.

Load balancing isn't cheap, but i'm getting a price quote and trying to see if there's any tweaking of the server to help.

FWIW, I agree with Gold Vike about getting the advertisers to pay. I also agree that people should register and possible limit the service thread access. I'm no computer wiz(no pun intended) but I would think that by taking several steps, the problem could be alleviated.

Look, I don't know the first thing about sports handicapping. I do like to make money! If I had the time to learn and contribue more, I would. Time is the issue these days. I say a very STRONG thank you to the regulars who are able to contribute and who do:D I promise when I have info to contribute, I will. I have no problem paying a fee. If, I never had the chance to lurk, I never would have thought of paying.

just by looking at the whose currently active on 9/11 over 800 people were on at 11:41 am .my guess less than 200 members were on at that time. force to get a username and password or make a members only area.

Is your server a windows based server?
My other question is, what happen to your old server?
You may be able to set up a farm for load balancing.
