Animal write-up on FLA
MLB - 6:05 ET
Milwaukee Brewers at Florida Marlins
4* Florida -155
It was inevitable. When Milwaukee was flirting around .500 prior to the all-star break you knew the Brewers didn't possess the talent to stay competitive over a grueling and unnecessary 162-game schedule. Sure enough the Brew Crew has now lost 14 of 18 including 6 of 7 with their only victory a one-run gift against Pittsburgh at home. They've been outscored 36-20 the past four days as the bullpen has really taken its lumps. Enter Wes Obermueller who Milwaukee is only 1-5 in his last six starts. More importantly the Brewers are 0-6 with Obermueller on the road since April 18th. Tonight he makes his first start since July 7th. Peter Gammons said Florida was the big winner last weekend before the trading deadline. The fact the Marlins started out 0-4 after swapping players didn't make Gammons look to good. But now the fish have won two straight including 9th inning heroics last night which has to put a further damper on Milwaukee's interest for game #2 of this series. I'll lay it with Valdez who is 6-2 at home this year with a 2.98 and his team is 4-1 in his last five starts. Florida seems to own this series winning 10/12 including 6-1 in south Florida the past three years.

Game: Cincinnati Reds at Colorado Rockies Aug 7 2004 8:05PM
Prediction: Colorado Rockies
Reason: Cook comes off a complete game 1 run victory in his last start. With the win Cook improved to 4-1 with a 2.59 ERA his last six starts. Wilson has cooled off after his hot start and the Reds are 0-4 the last four times he pitched. Look for Cook to outpitch Wilson as the home side earns the victory.

MLB: Cleveland
by Mike Godsey
Saturday 7th of August 2004
CLEVELAND (LEE +135) White Sox (Garcia)
It’s tough to not go against the Sox right now. They are 2-11 their last 13 while the Tribe are 14-8 their last 22. Backing Garcia at home this year has produced a 4-7 record –4.9 units.
The Sox are hitting less than .230 over the last eight days while Cleveland is over .300 in that span. The road team has won 7-of-9 in the series. While Garcia is the better pitcher and that keeps us from making this a premium play, Garcia personifies the old “sue for non-support” line. The Sox are 1-2 their last three to Lee and Cleveland is 2-1 their last three to Garcia.
With his teammates in a funk and Cleveland ripping the cover off of the ball, we look for Garcia to be the victim of yet another heart-breaker.
