We normally stay away from favorites with this expensive of a
price tag, but the setup looks to good to pass. Bartolo Colon, after a disastrous beginning, has finally started to earn his money. He's won his last five starts allowing just seven earned runs in 34 innings and he's 4-0 since the All-Star break (with two wins vs. Texas and a win vs. Boston) with a 1.38 ERA and a .169 BAA as opposed to a 6-8 record before the break with a 6.38 ERA and a .296 BAA. The Royals are 26-51 (-$2220) vs. righthanders and are $1620 in the red at home.

1.) Los Angeles--At 10:10 PM, our National League Game of the Week is on the Los Angeles Dodgers with Odalis Perez over Philly and Paul Abbott. Abbott has been dreadful all season (3-10, 6.48 ERA), and especially so on the road (1-7, 9.00 ERA). Meanwhile, Perez has been solid (3.08 ERA), and the big key for me in this matchup is the dichotomy between Los Angeles' performance vs. lefties and righties this season. The Dodgers lost to LHP Randy Wolf last night to drop their mark to 16-17 this year vs. southpaws, but they're an awesome 48-27 vs. righties. With a 10.38 ERA over his last 3 starts, I look for Abbott to get shelled tonight. Take LA as our National League Game of the Week.

2.) Chicago White Sox--At 7:05 PM, our American League Winner is on the White Sox with Freddy Garcia over Cleveland and Cliff Lee. The wheels have certainly come off of the Indians' left-hander. He was 14-5, and had won 10 of 11 decisions before his July 21 start vs. the White Sox. Lee lasted just 4 innings in that game, and gave up 9 hits and 7 runs. Lee also lost his next 2 starts, so he is 0-3 with a 15.00 ERA since July 21. Garcia is 5-2 since being traded to Chicago, and he had a very good outing at Detroit last Sunday (1 walk, 5 hits, 8 strikeouts) in leading the White Sox to a 6-4 win. Garcia's career ERA is 3.13 vs. Cleveland, while Lee's lifetime mark is 5.75 vs. Chicago. Take the White Sox tonight. Good luck, as always...Al McMordie
