Cincinnati vs. San Francisco play on San Francisco Giants
The Reds are 1-10 their last 11 games and now hit the road out to San Francisco after a home stand. Lidle has a 5.86 road ERA which is close to the Reds' 5.54 bullpen ERA on the road. In Lidle's last 9 night games, the Reds are 2-7. Sure looks like a SAN FRANCISCO win from here.
Big Al and Larry's Tuesday 4-game Combo--Save $$$.
Larry's selection is on the Toronto Blue Jays, and Big Al's 3 plays include the Mets, Oakland and Seattle in Game 2 of its double header (7:05 PM).
At 7:05 ET, Larry's 10* selection is the Toronto Blue Jays.
1.) Toronto Blue Jays--I guess 17 is a "magic" number? Last Wednesday, Scott Elarton allowed six hits and four ERs in seven innings vs Detroit, as the Indians won 5-4. What was significant in the game was that Elarton actually was credited with the win, his first in 17 starts this year, pitching for two teams! Still, he enters this game at 1-8, 7.65 ERA with his teams going 4-13, including 0-8 on the road (where he pitches tonight!). Opposing Elarton is Toronto's Miguel Batista. Batista was solid for Arizona last year with an ERA of 3.54 and the team going 19-10 in his starts. He's struggled on the road this year for the Blue Jays (team is 2-7) but at home, the Jays are 10-3 in his starts, winning TEN of his last 11!! Toronto beat the Indians yesterday 6-1 and will do it again here with Batista giving them a HUGE edge over Elarton. Pitching Mismatch of the Week -- 10* Blue Jays. Good luck, Larry Ness.
2.) Seattle Mariners--At 7:05 PM, in Game 2 of the double header, our selection is on the Seattle Mariners with Jamie Moyer over Baltimore. Moyer is 15-2 in his career vs. his former team, and he's also 8-1 this season when pitching with extra rest (Moyer last pitched 6 days ago). Meanwhile, Baltimore is a poor 12-21 this year vs. lefties. Take the Mariners.
3.) Oakland A's--At 7:05 PM, our selection is on the Oakland A's with Mark Mulder over the Yankees and John Lieber. Lieber has won only 3 of his last 11 starts, while Mulder has been simply brilliant this year. Overall, he's 14-3, including 12-1 since May 9. And, like Jamie Moyer, Mulder is pitching with an extra day of rest (he last pitched on Wednesday, July 28). And Mulder is an awesome 33-13 with extra rest. Finally, the Yankees are a poor 14-21 (-19 games on the money line) at home vs. pitchers who strike out at least 5 batters per game (Mulder averages 5.1 strikeouts). Take Oakland.
4.) New York Mets--At 8:05 PM, our selection is on the New York Mets with Al Leiter over Milwaukee. I've been riding Leiter of late, as he's given up 2 earned runs or less in 19 of his last 24 starts. Last week, we used the Mets and Leiter as our NL Game of the Week, and New York blew out Montreal 10-1. Leiter is 10-2 lifetime vs. the Brewers with a 3.51 ERA, and he has a 1.06 ERA over his last 3 starts. Finally, since 1997, Leiter's teams are 8-0 vs. Milwaukee when he starts. Take the Mets. Good luck, as always...Al McMordie
