Oberholtzer has pitched the Astros to victories over Boston (+118), Oakland twice (+232, +169), Toronto (+119) and Texas (-113) in those previous five trips to the mound.

The Indians are 21-5 in their last 26 home games against a lefty starter and are 24-6 in their last 30 games as a favorite of -151 to -200.

                      ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Game of the Day: Dodgers at Braves
                      ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Los Angeles Dodgers at Atlanta Braves (-113, 7)

The Los Angeles Dodgers look to maintain their recent dominance of the Atlanta Braves when the teams continue their four-game series Wednesday in Atlanta. After dispatching the Braves in the National League Division Series last fall, the Dodgers have claimed the first five meetings between the teams in 2014. Each of those victories have come in the past three weeks, playing a big role in the divergent paths for the two squads.

Los Angeles has won three straight and 13 of 18 to expand its lead in the National League West to six games over San Francisco. Atlanta, meanwhile, has lost 11 of 13 to tumble five games behind first-place Washington in the NL East and 2 1/2 games back of the second wild-card spot. With another loss Wednesday, the Braves would sit at .500 for the first time since they opened the year 1-1.

TV: 7:10 p.m. ET, SportsNet LA (Los Angeles), SportSouth (Atlanta)

LINE HISTORY: Pinnacle Sports opened the Bravesa as -108 faves but the line now sits -113. The total has held at 7.

INJURY REPORT: Dodgers - SS Hanley Ramirez (15-day DL, oblique). Braves - SS Andrelton Simmons (Questionable, ankle).

POWER RANKINGS: Dodgers (-194), Braves (-164)

PITCHING MATCHUP: Dodgers LH Hyun-Jin Ryu (13-5, 3.21 ERA) vs. Braves RH Ervin Santana (11-6, 3.69)

Ryu is 4-0 with a 1.91 ERA over his last five starts after tossing seven scoreless innings in a win over the Los Angeles Angels on Thursday. He has limited opponents to a .198 average while posting 32 strikeouts against only four walks in that span. Ryu last faced the Braves in Game 3 of the NLDS in October, giving up four runs and six hits in only three innings.

Santana cruised through five scoreless frames in his previous start against Washington before giving up four runs in his sixth and final inning, but still managed to pick up his fourth straight win. He has a 2.65 ERA during the winning streak, which also includes one no-decision at San Diego earlier this month. The veteran is 4-4 with a 3.27 ERA in eight career starts versus the Dodgers.

                      TRENDS:

                      * Dodgers are 7-0 in the last seven meetings.
                      * Under is 4-0 in umpire Ripperger's last four games behind home plate.
                      * Braves are 2-11 in their last 13 overall.
                      * Dodgers are 5-0 in Ryu's last five starts.

CONSENSUS: 61.97 percent of wagers on Consensus are backing the Dodgers.

                      • Armadillo: Wednesday's six-pack

-- Yoenis Cespedes homered in the 8th inning, Red Sox won 3-2 in Cincinnati.

-- Toronto outscored Winnipeg 17-0 in 4th quarter, beat Bombers 38-21, avenging an earlier loss to Winnipeg. Rare Tuesday night game in the CFL.

-- Josh Donaldson homered twice in a game for third time this year, A's won 11-3 in Kansas City, snapping Royals' 8-game winning streak.

-- Supposedly, Lebron James' first trip back to Miami is Christmas Day. Entire 2014-15 NBA schedule is being released today.

-- New Mexico hired prep school coach Alan Huss as an assistant, and right after that, Sam Logwood, one of Huss' best players, announced he will follow his coach to The Pit to play for the Lobos. What a coincidence!!!

-- Packers traded DL Jerel Worthy to New England, as Bill Belichick searches for depth on the defensive front.

                        **********

Armadillo: Wednesday's List of 13: Doing some thinking out loud.......

                        13) RIP Robin Williams, one of the all-time greats. It is tragic that someone who made others smile so much couldn’t be happy himself. Just very goddamn sad.

                        12) Good Will Hunting is one of my favorite movies; I’ve used my favorite quote from there on this site a couple times “Do whats in your heart, son. You’ll be fine.” Its something I think about often. RIP, sir.

                        11) Brady Quinn’s TV career didn’t last long; he signed on with the Dolphins as backup Matt Moore is banged-up now. Quinn was on a couple rosters LY but has not played in a real game since 2012.

                        10) Revel Casino in Atlantic City is closing September 10; you wonder if New Jersey will use legalized sports betting as a way to pump up their sagging casino industry? If legal sports betting ever takes hold in the east, it’ll be good to get in on the ground floor—lot of money to be had there.

                        9) Speaking of New Jersey, Governor Christie was at an A’s game in Oakland over the weekend, sitting behind the home dugout. Guess he had a $10,000 a plate fund raiser in San Francisco. Must be a hell of a lunch for $10K.

                        8) ESPN’s website points out that Andrew Luck, in his first two NFL seasons, has a 14-2 record in games decided by a touchdown or less, one of the five best two-year stretches in NFL history.

Peyton Manning has three of the other four, with former Cardinal QB Jim Hart having the other when he played for Don Coryell in the 70’s.

                        7) Two-sport athlete Amir Garrett has finally given up college hoop to devote himself to baseball full-time. Garrett played two years at St John’s, then transferred to Cal-Northridge, but he won’t play there. He is in the Reds’ system, and is 6-6, 3.41 in 22 starts in the Class A Midwest League this season.

                        6) Cleveland Browns cut 3rd-string QB Tyler Thigpen, signed Rex Grossman, kind of an odd move; they swear they’re not going to trade Brian Hoyer, but why bring Grossman in as a 3rd-stringer? Grossman was on the Redskins, so he does know Kyle Shanahan’s offense.

                        5) Thought of this today, for no real reason: there used to be an NBA player named Dwayne Schintzius, who was 7-1, played in college at Florida. He played eight years in the NBA as a bench player, was apparently a surly guy.

One day he got asked one too many times “How’s the weather up there?” referring to his height, so Schintzius replied “It’s raining” and spit on the guy. Really, he did.

                        4) Wake Forest coach Dave Clawson has onions; he’s starting a true freshman QB this fall. Hard to win at that level with a kid who was in high school at this time last year. Curious to see the young man play. The great majority of freshman football players red-shirt, meaning they don’t play the first year to beef up and get more mature, but still have four years left to play. Very few true freshman QBs begin the season as a starter.

                        3) David Price's first two starts with Detroit lasted a total of 31 innings.

                        2) New Orleans Saints have training camp this year at the Greenbrier resort, where Nick Faldo has a home; the British golf great was giving Sean Payton golf tips at Tuesday's practice and apparently used his soccer skills to nail a 35-yard FG.

                        1) 59 years ago today, my parents got married during a hurricane; without them, you're not reading this article right now. My mother passed away in 2004, my dad is hanging in there, rooting for the Mets every night. Cherish every day you have with your loved ones; life is too damn short.

-- NBA All-Star break will be eight days this winter; not really sure why.

-- SEC TV Network starts up today; hoping to learn a lot about college football on that channel. Texas A&M-South Carolina is network's first game August 28.

                              **********

Armadillo: Thursday's List of 13: Idle thoughts on a summer day......

                              13) ESPN.com ran an interesting article about how colleges are so impatient with coaches now; Mike Krzyzewski went 38-47 in his first three years at Duke and he replaced a guy (Bill Foster) who had been in the Final Four two years earlier. If that were today, would Coach K have been fired? He definitely would’ve been on the hot seat going into Year 4.

                              12) Former Maryland coach Ralph Friedgen is the offensive coordinator at Rutgers, which will help the Scarlet Knights a lot. Smart guy, should still be a head coach.

                              11) Someone wrote an article this week asking how many more points would Pete Maravich have scored in college if he played in the era with the 3-point shot?

He averaged 44+ a game at LSU, in a game with no shot clock or 3-pointer. Well, Pistol Pete was a much better version of Jimmer Fredette; a great shooter, fancy ballhandler, great fun to watch, but the SEC he played in was largely devoid of African-American players who would have done a better job of containing him.

LSU lost 101-79 to Al McGuire’s Marquette team in the NIT, a team with New York City playground players on it; no way does he come close to 44 a game in today’s game, even with the 3-point shot.

                              10) Within an hour of the PGA tournament ending, I got an e-mail from New Era hat company, selling Ryder Cup team hats from Team USA.

Um, no thanks; wonder how many of those they sell. I have a great baseball cap collection, but won’t be adding one of those it.

                              9) Major league leaders in pitches seen per at bat: Mike Napoli 4.49, Mike Trout 4.45, Brett Gardner 4.45, Carlos Santana 4.37.

                              8) Sounds more and more like the Raiders could be moving back to Los Angeles; with Donald Sterling out of the picture, Raiders are the most dysfunctional sports franchise in America. Hard to believe if you're my age.

                              7) Baltimore Orioles have a better road record (35-24) than they do at home (34-26). Whatever they’re paying Buck Showalter, it ain’t enough.

                              6) I was a student manager for our basketball team in college; fun job, but I once rebounded for a guy who made 102 foul shots in a row at the end of practice. No bueno. Not only that, but he didn’t talk while shooting, so I basically held my hand under the basket, caught the ball out of the net and flipped it back to him in silence over and over for like an hour, and God forbid if it was a bad pass back.

Miss those days; going to practice every day really was great fun.

                              5) Parts of Long Island got over 10 inches of rain Tuesday; TEN!!!!! Town of Islip almost exceeded its record monthly rainfall in one day. Yikes.

                              4) Since 2009, Justin Verlander has thrown 22,918 pitches, most of any major league pitcher. He may be paying the price for that now, with a sore shoulder.

                              3) Nationals’ OF Jayson Werth got a citation for driving 105 mph in a 55 mph zone. Not sure what his defense would be for that one; how did they catch him?

                              2) I’m a firm believer than time/money management skills should become an integral part of a kid’s high school education. It’s the most important thing we do; manage time and money. Why don’t we teach kids how to do it, instead of the some of the less-useful stuff we do teach?

                              1) Everett Golson was officially named Notre Dame’s #1 QB for this season, as a stupidly-run charade finally plays out. Kid was their QB two years when they got drilled by Alabama in the national title game; you don’t think he was getting his job back this year? Hogwash.

They let the kid hang out to dry for a while, now they expect him to win games again, so they can continue to pocket a fortune from NBC. But they’ll tell you they’re not a football factory.

If Notre Dame isn’t a football factory, I’m not bald. End of story.
Remember the 3 G's Gambling, Golf, Girls not in any particular order.....
