(TV: 6:00 PM EST, FSN Ohio (Cleveland), CSN California (Sacramento) - Line: Kings -3, Total: 204) - The Sacramento Kings finally turned in a solid effort against a sub-.500 team and will look for another when they host the Cleveland Cavaliers on Sunday. The Kings knocked off contenders such as Miami, Houston and Portland in the past two weeks but had trouble with the likes of Philadelphia and Charlotte before defeating the Orlando Magic 103-83 on Friday. The Cavaliers took the opener of their five-game road trip at Utah 113-102 on Friday.

The win over the Jazz improved Cleveland’s NBA-worst road mark to 3-15 but provided a more complete picture of the team as Luol Deng made his debut after being acquired from Chicago. Deng scored 10 points in 21 minutes as he settled into a faster-paced offense than the one the Bulls ran post-Derrick Rose. “I’m really excited,” Deng told reporters after his first game with the Cavaliers. “I see the way guys are setting a screen, where we are scoring from. I just want to bring in something that we don’t have, whether it’s posting up or defensively getting the guys going.”

•ABOUT THE CAVALIERS (13-23 SU, 17-19-0 ATS): Cleveland has won back-to-back games - not coincidentally the two games since Kyrie Irving’s return from a three-game absence due to a knee injury. Irving collected 25 points and eight assists against Utah and stands to benefit from Deng drawing some attention from the defense. “I know that (Deng’s) going to continue to get better every single game,” Irving told reporters. “I’m looking forward to continuing to play with him.” Deng drew praise from coach Mike Brown for his presence on the bench. “I like the stuff he was saying to our guys at halftime, before the game, in the huddles and during the flow of action,” Brown told reporters.

•ABOUT THE KINGS (12-22 SU, 14-19-1 ATS): Sacramento made its big trade last month when it acquired Rudy Gay from the Toronto Raptors. Gay is proving to be a solid scoring compliment to DeMarcus Cousins and Isaiah Thomas and is averaging 20.6 points on 51.4 percent shooting in 14 games with the Kings after struggling to 19.4 on 38.8 percent from the field in the first 18 games with the Raptors. Sacramento tends to struggle is on the defensive end, where it had yielded at least 100 points in 10 straight games before clamping down against the Magic.

•PREGAME NOTES: The Kings took both meetings last season by a total of nine points.... Cleveland F Tristan Thompson has recorded a double-double in three straight games and four of the last five.... Sacramento rookie G Ben McLemore lost his starting spot and has totaled seven points on 3-of-19 shooting in the last four games.

              #803 ATLANTA @ #804 MEMPHIS
(TV: 6:00 PM EST, SportSouth (Atlanta, Memphis) - Line: Grizzlies -4, Total: 193.5) - The Atlanta Hawks look to follow up an impressive homestand with a road win when they visit the Memphis Grizzlies on Sunday. The Hawks went 2-4 after star center Al Horford's season-ending injury before rebounding at home this week with wins over Eastern Conference-leading Indiana and Western Conference standout Houston. Atlanta posted its best defensive effort of the season in an 83-80 triumph over the Rockets on Friday.

Memphis is also surviving without a key player as it has gone 2-1 since a hand injury sidelined guard Tony Allen, who joined center Marc Gasol on the list of absent starters. Point guard Mike Conley picked up the slack with 31 points in a 104-99 victory over Phoenix on Saturday, the team's sixth win in 10 games following a 1-7 stretch. The Hawks swept the two-game series last season and have won three straight in Memphis.

•ABOUT THE HAWKS (20-17 SU, 21-16-0 ATS): Horford ranks among the franchise's all-time leaders in blocked shots and rebounds, among other categories, but Atlanta has managed to step up its game on the defensive end in his absence. After limiting the Pacers in a 97-87 victory, the Hawks held the usually hot-shooting Rockets to a 41.4 percent mark from the floor while forcing 16 turnovers. Paul Millsap and Kyle Korver scored 20 points apiece as Atlanta survived some poor shooting of its own (37.2 percent) in improving to 14-5 at home.

•ABOUT THE GRIZZLIES (16-19 SU, 15-19-1 ATS): When Memphis made its rise last season, it did so largely on the strength of dominance on the glass and some solid interior defense, both of which were aided by the presence of Gasol. Without one of their big men in the fold, forward Ed Davis has begun to step up, recording 10 points and a career-high 17 rebounds against the Suns. Davis has three double-doubles this month after recording just one in his first 30 games and gives the Grizzlies a better chance to weather the storm until Gasol returns, possibly before the month is out.

•PREGAME NOTES: Hawks PF Mike Scott averaged 14.5 points on 12-of-19 shooting in 17.5 minutes off the bench during the 2-0 homestand.... Atlanta entered Saturday ranked fourth in the NBA in 3-point attempts per game (25.3) while Memphis was last (14.2).... Memphis is 16-10 against teams outside its division, compared to 0-9 versus divisional opponents.

              #805 MINNESOTA @ #806 SAN ANTONIO
(TV: 7:00 PM EST, FSN North (Minnesota), FSN Southwest (San Antonio) - Line: Spurs -6, Total: 211.5) - Kevin Love took the unusual step of calling out his teammates publicly after a tough loss and the tactic seemed to work - at least for one night. The Timberwolves will try to carry that momentum to a second straight triumph when they visit the San Antonio Spurs on Sunday. Love was upset that certain reserves did not join the huddle or encourage teammates down the stretch of a 104-103 loss to Phoenix on Wednesday but had no complaints after trouncing Charlotte on Friday.

The 119-92 victory over the Bobcats brought Minnesota back to .500 at 18-18, and it will take its ninth shot at going above the even mark. The Spurs will try to make it 0-9 as they aim for a fourth straight win despite Manu Ginobili (hamstring) and Tiago Splitter (shoulder) dealing with injuries. San Antonio won six of its last seven games to take over the top record in the Western Conference and overcame 42 points from Love to post a 117-110 home victory over the Timberwolves on Dec. 13.

•ABOUT THE TIMBERWOLVES (18-18 SU, 20-16-0 ATS): Love recorded 19 points and 14 rebounds Friday before sitting on the end of the bench and watching the second unit he had chastised earlier close out the win. J.J. Barea was one of the targets of Love’s comments and he ended up with seven points and five assists against the Bobcats. “You just got to stay with it,” Barea told reporters. “It’s a long season. You’ve got to keep getting better. We’re going to have a chance. You gotta take advantage.”

•ABOUT THE SPURS (28-8 SU, 19-17-0 ATS): Ginobili could be ready to go Sunday, though San Antonio did not have much need for the veteran swingman while crushing Dallas 112-90 on Wednesday. The Spurs are averaging 111.4 points in their last seven games and got 17 points off the bench from Marco Belinelli out of Ginobili’s usual spot Wednesday. Tim Duncan is on a roll with three straight double-doubles and is averaging 19.7 points and 13.7 rebounds during that stretch while Splitter has been out of the lineup for the last two.

•PREGAME NOTES: The Timberwolves snapped a 16-game losing streak in San Antonio in the regular-season finale last year, but fell short of two straight despite Love going 8-of-9 from 3-point range in the Dec. 13 meeting.... Love has been held to less than 20 points in two straight games after hitting the mark in 14 in a row.... San Antonio and Minnesota had a scheduled game in Mexico City on Dec. 4 postponed when smoke from a damaged generator outside filled the arena. It will be made up April 8 in Minneapolis.

                Iowa, Ohio State battle

                January 11, 2014

Iowa Hawkeyes (13-3 SU, 9-5 ATS) at Ohio State Buckeyes (15-1 SU, 9-6 ATS)
Sportsbook.ag Opening Line: Ohio State -7.5

Two teams with Big Ten championship aspirations meet on Sunday, as No. 20 Iowa travels to No. 3 Ohio State in a pivotal conference clash.

Both teams have been very impressive this season, with no bad losses. The Hawkeyes' three defeats all came against current top-10 teams (No. 4 Wisconsin, No. 8 Villanova and No. 9 Iowa State), while the Buckeyes suffered their lone loss in overtime on Tuesday at No. 5 Michigan State.

Iowa has really struggled in this series, losing its past eight meetings with OSU since its last victory on February 2, 2008. However, the Hawkeyes are 6-3 ATS in the past nine matchups, and are coming off a dominating 93-67 victory over Northwestern on Thursday despite their coach Fran McCaffery being suspended one game for an outburst against Wisconsin.

This is a classic matchup of explosive offense versus a shutdown defense, as Iowa 9-5 ATS, 3-0 ATS on road) ranks eighth in the nation in scoring (86.5 PPG) on a strong 47.5% FG clip (38.2% threes).

While the Buckeyes have been great this season, they do struggle against teams with great size. Ohio State is coming off a tough loss on the road to Michigan State, but showed in that game the ability to play with anybody country. The Buckeyes (9-6 ATS, 6-5 ATS at home) have been successful this season because of their terrific defense that allows a mere 56.0 PPG (4th in nation) on 37.5% FG (10th in nation).

Ohio State has not allowed a team to score 70 points in a game that ended in regulation (Michigan State scored 72 in an overtime game), and has held two teams under 40 points in a game, including then-No. 17 Marquette to 35 points. If the Hawkeyes are going to end their losing streak to OSU, they must be able to get the ball up the court and not turn the ball over.

Iowa is 7-4 ATS (64%) after an SU win and 7-3 ATS (70%) with at least two days of rest this season, while Ohio State is 7-3 ATS (70%) with at least three days rest this season.

Iowa has been close to contending in the Big Ten in the past couple of seasons, and appears to be on its way back to the NCAA Tournament.

PF Aaron White (13.4 PPG, 6.6 RPG, 2.2 APG), a bruising power forward who has the ability to control the paint, has been leading the way for the Hawkeyes with a stellar 65.2% FG clip. White had a monster night in Thursday's win with 18 points, 10 rebounds and five assists, increasing his averages to 14.3 PPG, 8.3 RPG in his three conference games. White also had a team-high 13 points with seven rebounds in last year's 72-63 loss in Columbus.

PF Melsahn Basabe (7.6 PPG, 6.6 RPG) is another guy that is going to work hard down low, and showed his potential against Northwestern on Thursday by going off for 16 points (5-for-5 FG) and 10 rebounds. He also had a game-high 10 boards in the loss to the Buckeyes last season. The Hawkeyes frontcourt is not the most athletic, but they are going to work hard the entire game, and do a great job of wearing out their opponents, pulling down an impressive 45.1 RPG (3rd in Div. I).

However, if the Hawkeyes are going to be able to get the upset victory, then senior SG Roy Devyn Marble (16.0 PPG, 3.6 RPG, 3.4 APG) is going to have to play much better than he did at Value Center Arena last year when he made just 2-of-11 FG and had two assists in 30 minutes. But Marble has shined in Big Ten play so far, averaging 19.0 PPG, including 27 points in the loss Wisconsin last Sunday. At 6-foot-6, he is a very difficult matchup as he is too big for point guards, but too quick for small forwards.

If Marble and sophomore PG Mike Gesell (6.6 PPG, 3.8 APG) are able to control the pace and limit turnovers, there could be an upset brewing in Columbus. However, it will not be easy.

Ohio State also has guys that are capable of scoring, but its 75.2 PPG ranks only ninth in the Big Ten. However, that can be misleading, as the Buckeyes do shoot nearly as well from the field (47.0% FG), as the Hawkeyes, but do not have the same number of possessions in the game.

Senior PG Aaron Craft (9.3 PPG, 5.0 APG, 3.4 RPG) is the best defensive point guard in the country with 2.4 steals per game. He does a terrific job of harassing the opposing point guard, not allowing their opponents to get their offense set up. Craft is also the rare player with more steals than turnovers (1.9 per game) or fouls (2.3 per game). He stuffed the stat sheet in the win over Iowa last season with 12 points (8-of-10 FT), five assists, four steals and three rebounds, but also committed six turnovers.

The player Craft sets up most for scoring opportunities this season is junior PF LaQuinton Ross (13.1 PPG, 5.8 RPG), but he must become a more consistent scorer. In Tuesday's loss at Michigan State, he was only 1-of-7 from the field, finishing with five points and two rebounds. For a guy with his athleticism and natural scoring abilities, he is a guy that should be flirting with a double-double on any given night.

Senior SG Lenzelle Smith Jr. (12.4 PPG, 5.1 RPG, 1.6 APG) was another player that struggled against the Spartans (7 points on 3-of-11 FG), and must also play much better if the Buckeyes are going to get the victory. In last year's win versus the Hawkeyes, he finished with 12 points and six rebounds.

However, the key player in this matchup will be junior C Amir Williams (9.6 PPG, 6.8 RPG, 2.1 BPG). He took only three shots against MSU, but did a terrific job battling down low, finishing with 11 rebounds and three blocks. In last year's meeting with Iowa, he failed to grab a rebound in 17 minutes of action, but made his presence felt with six blocks. The Hawkeyes post players compete, but are not going to blow you away with great athleticism. If Williams plays with the same intensity and battles as hard in this game, then the Buckeyes have a great shot of getting the win.

Preview: Cavaliers (13-23) at Kings (12-22)

                  Date: January 12, 2014 6:00 PM EDT

Coming off a pair of impressive showings, the Cleveland Cavaliers are hoping to keep building with Luol Deng on board.

The last-place Sacramento Kings have also been playing better of late.

The visiting Cavaliers and the Kings both go for a third consecutive win when these teams meet Sunday.

After easily getting by Philadelphia 111-93 on Tuesday behind C.J. Miles' season-best 34 points, Cleveland (13-23) beat Utah 113-102 on Friday in the opener of a season-high five-game road trip. Kyrie Irving led the way with 25 points, eight assists, six rebounds and a career high-tying five steals while Deng scored 10 in 21 minutes in his Cavaliers debut.

"I'm really excited. I see the way guys are setting a screen, where we are scoring from," said Deng, acquired from Chicago on Monday. "I just want to bring in something that we don't have. Whether it's posting up or defensively getting the guys going. You don't want to come to a new team and bring something that is already there."

The Cavaliers shot 54.2 percent - their second-best mark of the season - while outscoring the Jazz 54-40 in the paint and outrebounding them 45-34. Cleveland, enjoying back-to-back wins for the first time since a season-high three-game run Dec. 7-13, snapped a five-game road losing streak.

The Cavaliers, 3-15 away from home, haven't posted consecutive road wins since Dec. 22-26 of last season.

"Especially on the road, for us to lock in and fight the right way to get that win, to start the road trip off the right way, was big," said coach Mike Brown, whose team outscored Utah 39-21 in the third quarter. "You give our guys credit for coming out the second half and playing the game of basketball like they know how."

The Cavaliers now turn their attention to the Kings (12-22), who are looking to win three straight for the first time since Dec. 5-8 of last season. Sacramento beat Portland 123-119 on Tuesday before cruising to a 103-83 victory over Orlando on Friday.

DeMarcus Cousins had 24 points, 14 boards and six assists while Rudy Gay finished with 22, 10 and five, respectively.

"We validated our Portland win. For one of the few times this year, after beating a good team, we came back and validated it and we built on that win," coach Michael Malone told the NBA's official website.

The Kings, who shot 51.3 percent and limited the Magic to 33.3 percent, improved to 10-3 when scoring at least 105 points.

"It's all a tribute to us moving the ball, playing together and also running and playing Kings basketball," Gay said.

Acquired from Toronto on Dec. 9, Gay is averaging 23.4 points while shooting 56.3 percent in helping the Kings win four of seven.

"Rudy has helped us out so much and gives us another option offensively," Cousins said. "He's been a great addition."

Cousins is enjoying a torrid start to 2014, averaging 29.5 points and 13.0 rebounds in four games.

Miles, meanwhile, has averaged 22.8 points in Cleveland's last four, more than double his season mark of 10.3.

The Cavaliers had taken 10 of 11 from the Kings before losing both matchups last season by a combined nine points. Cousins averaged 22.0 points and 15.0 rebounds in those games.

Cleveland has averaged 108.7 points during a 6-1 stretch at Sacramento.

Preview: Hawks (20-17) at Grizzlies (16-19)

                    Date: January 12, 2014 6:00 PM EDT

The Atlanta Hawks hit the road looking to match their longest winning streak of the season.

While the Hawks have been struggling away from home, they've mostly dominated in Memphis lately.

Atlanta goes for a third consecutive win and 12th in 14 matchups against the Grizzlies on Sunday.

After beating NBA-best Indiana 97-87 on Wednesday, the Hawks (20-17) slowed down high-scoring Houston in an 83-80 victory Friday. Paul Millsap and Kyle Korver scored 20 points apiece as Atlanta overcame a 10-point first quarter - its lowest output in any period this season.

The Hawks limited the Rockets to their lowest point total and forced 18 turnovers, two nights after causing the Pacers to commit 20.

"It's a real good win for us because it really shows we played some good teams and we actually played some good defense," Millsap said. "It started with the defense and if we continue to keep that up, we'll be fine."

The Hawks, allowing 99.9 points per game, have given up an average of 87.3 over the last four while holding every opponent below 41.5 percent from the field.

"I think the group is really starting to trust each other defensively," said coach Mike Budenholzer, whose team won a season-high three in a row Dec. 16-20. "The competitiveness that they're putting out there, it starts on the defensive end of the court. ... It's just good to see that trust being built up."

While the Hawks have won 10 of 12 at home, they've lost eight of 10 on the road. Their 6-12 road record is easily the worst of any team above .500.

Atlanta, though, has taken 11 of 13 from the Grizzlies since the start of 2006-07, including five of six in Memphis with those victories coming by an average of 13.0 points. Atlanta won there for the third straight time last season before beating the Grizzlies 103-92 at home Feb. 6 behind Jeff Teague's 22 points and 13 assists.

Memphis (16-19) has alternated wins and losses over its last nine games after beating Phoenix 104-99 on Friday. Mike Conley matched a career high with 31 points while Zach Randolph added 20 and 13 boards.

"He's been great," Randolph said of Conley, who scored 30 three nights earlier in a 110-108 overtime loss to San Antonio. "The kid's worked on his game, and he keeps getting better and better."

Conley, averaging a career-high and team-best 18.0 points, is 12 of 23 from 3-point range over the last four games while shooting 52.1 percent overall. He continues to lead the way with All-Star center Marc Gasol still out with a knee injury.

"I'm having fun with it," Conley said. "I've had games where I don't play well, and I'm still trying to carry the load and games where I do. I'm just having fun and trying to help us get wins."

The Grizzlies have also been without defensive specialist Tony Allen (hand) for the last three games. His absence could prove costly as Memphis tries to contain Korver, who is shooting 47.7 percent from 3-point range to rank second in the NBA.

Korver, who has at least one 3 in an NBA-record 106 consecutive games, has keyed Atlanta's last two wins as he's gone 7 of 12 from beyond the arc while averaging 18.5 points. The Hawks are 11-4 when he makes at least three 3s and have won 14 of their last 16 when he scores in double figures.

Atlanta is 4-13 when allowing more than 100 points. The Grizzlies are averaging 108.0 over the last four games, well above their season mark of 96.3.

                    • Preview: Timberwolves (18-18) at Spurs (28-8)

                      Date: January 12, 2014 7:00 PM EDT

Sitting a few games out of the Western Conference playoff picture, the Minnesota Timberwolves know they need to put a few wins together.

Building on their latest result, though, could prove difficult with a matchup against the conference's best team up next.

The Timberwolves try to make it two in a row when they visit the San Antonio Spurs on Sunday night.

Minnesota (18-18) has alternated wins and losses over its last seven games after blowing out Charlotte 119-92 on Friday. Nikola Pekovic led the way with 26 points while Kevin Love and Kevin Martin added 19 apiece.

"We just need to have one good streak and then we're right back where we need to be," said Love, who added 14 rebounds and rested for most of the fourth quarter.

The Timberwolves shot 54.5 percent - their third-highest mark this season - and outscored the Bobcats 54-40 in the paint. They also held a whopping 54-33 rebounding edge, including 12-4 on the offensive glass.

"If we can do it consistently, this team's going to be great," backup guard J.J. Barea said. "You just got to stay with it. It's a long season. You've got to keep getting better. We're going to have a chance. You gotta take advantage. To come out here and beat a team by (more than) 20 is awesome. So hopefully we can get a run in and win a couple in a row."

While there was some tension in the locker room after Minnesota dropped to 0-10 in games decided by four points or fewer with Wednesday's 104-103 loss to Phoenix, the team appears to have moved on.

"We did a good job of letting the other night go," Barea said. "We forgot about that already. Now we're back winning, so we've just got to keep it going."

Doing so won't be easy against the Spurs (28-8), who have won six of seven while averaging 111.4 points. San Antonio is surely eager to get back on the court for the first time since Wednesday's 112-90 rout of Dallas, its third consecutive victory.

Tony Parker committed a season-high six turnovers but posted 25 points on 10-of-15 shooting, and Marco Belinelli scored 17 off the bench. The Spurs, who shot 52.6 percent, are 15-0 when making more than half their shots.

Belinelli has gone 13 of 20 from 3-point range in averaging 16.6 points over the last five games, well above his season mark of 10.8. The Italy native is shooting an NBA-best 50.4 percent from 3-point range.

"He's playing great basketball, so we should take advantage of that," Parker said. "He makes shots and he creates, and when (opposing teams) have to guard him, it creates more space for me to penetrate."

Tim Duncan has also come up big of late, posting 19.7 points and 13.7 rebounds during a stretch of three straight double-doubles.

Although San Antonio has taken 25 of 30 from Minnesota, these teams have split the last eight matchups. Parker, averaging 23.8 points during a four-game stretch in the series, finished with a season-high 29 in a 117-110 victory Dec. 13.

Love scored 42 that night while making a career-high eight 3s. The All-Star forward is averaging 32.6 points in his last seven road games.

"He was on fire against us last game, so we'll try to do a better job on the pick-and-rolls and try to limit him," Parker said.

Spurs guard Manu Ginobili is uncertain to play after missing Wednesday's game with a hamstring injury. He scored 20 against the Timberwolves last month.

                              • Inside the Paint - Monday

                                January 12, 2014

After taking a mini-hiatus Sunday with just three games, the NBA picks up the tempo on Monday with seven games. If you haven’t invested much time handicapping the hardwood lately, you should be aware of some hot and cold teams in the Association.

Let’s start with the bad and that’s probably an understatement for a couple of these clubs.

                                Cold

Boston wasn’t expected to be competitive this season but it opened with a 4-4 record under rookie head coach Brad Stevens, who refuted reports that the franchise was going to tank. Since the .500 start, the team has gone 8-21, which includes a current skid of 1-11 in their last 12. The Celtics come home Monday after losing all five games on their trip to the West Coast. They did save some face but covering the last three but they’re still 4-8 against the spread in their last 12. On Monday, the Celtics will try to get over the jetlag and step up against Houston, who has gone 11-3 SU and 8-6 ATS versus the Eastern Conference this season.

New Orleans has dropped five straight games and it’s gone 1-6 ATS in its last seven games. It’s hard to beat up the Hornets because they have been hit with the injury bug lately – Jrue Holiday (ankle), Ryan Anderson (back) and Tyreke Evans (ankle). Evans is ‘questionable’ for Monday’s home game against San Antonio but the other two are ‘out.’ New Orleans didn’t have much depth to begin with and that’s part of the reason why it opened as 5 ½-point home underdog to the Spurs, who have won eight of the last 10 meetings in this series.

The Eastern Conference has been dreadful this season and helping that cause is Orlando, who enters Monday with seven straight losses both SU and ATS. Six of those setbacks were by double digits and the defense gave up 100-plus in each of the last five games. The Magic will try to right the ship when they conclude their five-game road trip at Dallas on Monday. The Mavericks opened as 11 ½-point favorites and the line has already started to rise. Orlando didn’t have veteran guard Aaron Afflalo (foot) in Saturday’s 120-94 blowout loss at Denver and he’s ‘doubtful’ against the Mavs. Make a note that the Magic are 2-14 SU and 5-10-1 ATS versus Western Conference opponents this season. Dallas owns a 9-4 SU and 6-7 ATS mark against the East this season.

                                Hot

Toronto has been the hottest team at the betting counter recently, covering in eight straight games. The Raptors have gone 6-2 SU during this span and the losses came against superior opponents in the Heat (97-102) and Pacers (79-86) on the road. Bettors might want to tread lightly on Toronto come Monday because it’s laying double digits at home to Milwaukee and it hasn’t been in that situation all season. As a favorite, the Raptors have gone 10-6 SU and 8-8 ATS. The Bucks could be mentioned above in the “Cold” section but they’ve been playing poorly all season, evidenced by their record (7-29 SU, 12-24 ATS). Surprisingly, they’ve won more games (4-15) on the road than at home but that shouldn’t make you back a team that is 0-7 both SU and ATS when catching double digits this season.

Don’t look now but New York has won five of its last six and more importantly it’s produced a 6-0 record against the number during this run and that includes outright wins over contenders San Antonio and Miami. The Knicks will face another test on Monday when Phoenix visits Madison Square Garden. New York opened as a three-point favorite and it could be catching the Suns at the right time. Phoenix has been a great story this season but it’s dropped three of four. However, all four games were decided by five points or less during this span. Surprisingly, the Suns are 5-4 both SU and ATS versus the East this season and that includes two setbacks on their current road trip.

After closing 2013 with seven straight losses, Denver has started the New Year with five straight wins. The Nuggets have gone 4-1 ATS during the winning streak and it appears they found their offensive groove. The team is averaging 119.6 PPG in its last five games, which has helped the ‘over’ go 4-1. Helping the Nuggets’ success has been their homecourt, which they won’t have on Monday when they travel to Utah. No overnight line was posted due to the status of Jazz forward Gordon Hayward, who is ‘questionable’ with a hip injury. These teams have met twice this season and the road team has captured victories in both games. The ‘under’ went 2-0.
