    Armadillo's Write-Up

    Wednesday, November 27

Kent State is 6-1, losing by hoop at Seton Hall, only top 100 team they played so far; Flashes are making 41.9% of their 3's- they won by 7 in OT at Youngstown LY, making 8-17 from arc while Penguins were 4-20. YSU is 6-1 but only games they played in last ten days were couple of jogs past D-III teams. Yuk. MAC home favorites are 7-8 vs spread.

Richmond coach Mooney used to coach Air Force; Spiders made 16-26 from arc LY in 91-68 home win over Falcons- they led by 31 with 7:50 left to play. This is first road game for Richmond, shooting just 21.7% on arc this year. AFA has turned ball over 22.4% of time, going 2-2 vs schedule without anyone in 250, so this is big jump in competition.

Portland is 3-3 but hasn't beaten anyone ranked higher than #196; Pilots lost last game in double OT Sunday- they're turning ball over 15.7% of time this year, compared to 23.3% LY, so big improvement. San Jose is 2-4, scoring 82 ppg while winning last two games; Spartans are 1-2 on road, losing by 12 at Santa Clara, 1 at NIU, winning at Pepperdine.

Utah is 5-0 against an amazing collection of stiffs; Ball State is #209 but still a huge jump in competition. Cardinals are 1-2 but both losses were to top 60 teams- they lost by point to Butler last game, after leading by 11 in second half. Butler hurt them with 20 offensive boards. Pac-12 home favorites are 20-15 against spread. MAC road underdogs: 7-8.

Saint Louis shot just 33% in 63-57 loss to Wisconsin last night, first loss in six games for Billikens, whose best win is over #124 Oral Roberts by 17 at home. Old Dominion was just 9-22 from line in 78-60 loss to WV Tuesday- only one Monarch played more than 28:00. Nine Billikens played 11+ minutes. Atlantic 13 favorites are 4-7 away from home.

Louisiana Tech was 29-43 from line in 103-78 rout of UIC Tuesday, as no Bulldog played more than 24:00. St Bonaventure survived its shaky (12-23) foul shooting to survive 70-67 over Wagner, after they led by 12 at half. C-USA favorites are 15-8 vs spread. Atlantic 13 underdogs are 11-7 against the spread. Both teams are playing for third day in row.

Gonzaga blew 16-point lead in Monday's loss to Dayton; they played D-II Chaminade yesterday, so this is their only chance for D-I win on this trip, vs Arkansas squad that made 8-17 and beat Minnesota by 14, after trailing by 5 at half- they scored 52 points in second half, will try and run with Zags. #90 Colorado State is only top 125 win for Gonzaga. Arkansas is 2-1 vs top 70 teams, losing by 8 to Cal Monday.

Dayton was down 16 Monday and won, up 14 Tuesday and lost; they played four subs 19+ minutes, made 11-20 from arc, but only got on the foul line nine times (7-9), getting outscored 10-3 in last 3:30 of a 1-point loss. Cal played without big man Solomon (eye) in loss to Syracuse, as four starters played 32+ minutes. Doubt Solomon will play in this one.

Syracuse made 23-24 from line, 7-14 from arc in 92-81 win over Cal, in game where three Orange 34+ minutes- Fair played all 40, frosh Ennis 37. Athletic Baylor was +10 on boards in 67-66 over Dayton, after they played D-II host Chaminade day before. Only two Bears played more than 33:00. All these Maui teams are playing for third day in row.

5-0 Arizona hasn't played in eight days; they come to stormy east with 42.1% mark behind arc, only 64.1% on line- they've got solid road win, at San Diego State by 9. Drexel will have crowd edge being fron Philly; Dragons lost by 5 at UCLA, has won three in row since, over bunch of stiffs. Drexel is defensive minded team that allows just 24.6% on arc.

Duke damn near lost at home to Vermont (91-90) Sunday; Blue Devils lost by 11 to Kansas, only top 150 team they've played so far. Duke is making 45.2% from arc, but they're neither experienced, deep or strong defensively. Alabama turned ball over 22% of time in 3-1 start, losing to Oklahoma by 9. ACC neutral court teams are 17-3 against the spread.

Vermont just lost by a point at Duke, but they lost by 23 at Bryant, by 7 at Wagner- they're 1-5 for God's sake, making just 26.4% on arc- they were 31-41 (75.6%) inside arc at Duke. Young Illinois State is 1-3, with losses by 9-8-38 points; Redbirds are making just 25% from arc, 41% inside it. MVC favorites are 7-0 away from home so far this month.

Indiana State is 3-1, making 50% of its 3's (#2 in US), 86.4% from line (#1 in US); they made 11-20 from arc in 83-70 win at Notre Dame ten days ago. Sycamores are not real athletic, but they all can shoot. Tulsa allowed 82.3 ppg in 0-4 start, but they've played Wichita/Creighton- its other two losses are by 6-3. C-USA underdogs are 16-13 vs spread.

          • Battle 4 Atlantis Tip Sheet

            November 27, 2013

The Battle 4 Atlantis gets underway this Thanksgiving Day at the Imperial Arena at Atlantis Resort with the Quarterfinal Round of games. The heavy favorite to win this eight-team tournament is the No. 2 Kansas Jayhawks followed by No. 23 Iowa, but there are a couple of other upstarts such as Villanova and Xavier from the Big East and USC from the Pac-12 looking to make their presence known. To help get you ready for all of the action, the following is a tip-sheet for all four of Thursday’s games.

USC Trojans vs. Villanova Wildcats (1 p.m. AXS TV)

The Trojans come into this tournament riding a four-game winning streak after a suffering a 78-65 season opening defeat to Utah State as nine-point road underdogs. Byron Wesley has been a force for USC so far with a team-high 19.8 points and 8.8 rebounds and the team as a whole is averaging 75 points a game while shooting 46.1 percent from the field. The Trojans have done a good job controlling the boards with 42 rebounds a game.

Villanova is off to a solid 4-0 start but it has yet to be really tested. Their last time out the Wildcats squeezed past Delaware 84-80 as 18 ½-point home favorites. They are averaging 81.8 points a game led by JayVaughn Pinkston and James Bell. This duo is scoring a combined 38.3 points and 10.5 rebounds a game. Pinkston is shooting 56.3 percent from the floor and Bell has hit on 49.1 percent of his shots from the field.

Something has to give in this one. USC is just 3-9-1 against the spread in its last 13 nonconference games and the Wildcats have failed to cover in 13 of their last 18 games played at a neutral site.

Wake Forest Demon Deacons vs. No. 2 Kansas Jayhawks (3:30 p.m. AXS TV)

Wake Forest has reeled off five straight victories to start this season and in the only game with a posted line it covered as a 21 ½-point home favorite in an 82-54 romp over the Citadel. Led by Codi Miller-McIntyre and Devin Miller, the Demon Deacons are ranked 37th in the nation in scoring (85.6) and third in rebounds (49.2). The team is shooting 44.5 percent from the field but just 32.6 percent from three-point range.

Kansas already made a big splash this season with its 94-83 victory over then-No. 4 Duke as a 5 ½-point underdog in the State Farm Classic. It is 4-0 SU overall and 3-0 ATS. The Jayhawks are averaging 87 points a game and ranked second in the nation in field goal percentage (56.8). Forward Perry Ellis and freshman guard Andrew Wiggins are each averaging 16.8 points a game while combining for 13.3 rebounds.

The Demon Deacons are a perfect 4-0 ATS in their last four games against the Big 12 but just 15-36 ATS in their last 51 neutral site games. Kansas is 5-2 ATS in its last seven games against a team from the ACC.

No. 23 Iowa Hawkeyes vs. Xavier Musketeers (7 p.m. NBC Sports Network)

Iowa has rolled to a 5-0 SU start while covering in its last two games as a 30 ½-point and 25-point favorite. The Hawkeyes have lit up the scoreboard so far with an average of 92.6 points while dominating the boards with 48.4 rebounds a game. The two players responsible for a good deal of this production have been Roy Devyn Marble (14.6 points) and Aaron White (13.6 points and 7.6 rebounds).

The Musketeers are 5-0 SU as well with a 3-0 record ATS. One of their wins was a 67-63 victory over Tennessee as 2 ½-point home favorites. Xavier has been one of the top shooting teams in the nation in the early going with a field goal percentage of 52.5 percent. Semaj Christon has shot 50.8 percent from the field while scoring a team-high 16.4 points a game.

These two last met in 2010 with the Musketeers coming away with an 86-73 victory as a 5 ½-point home favorite. The Hawkeyes closed out last season with a 10-1 run ATS.

UTEP Miners vs. Tennessee Volunteers (9:30 p.m. NBC Sports Network)

Texas El Paso comes into this tournament fresh off last Saturday’s 77-68 loss at home to New Mexico State in a game that had no posted line. The Miners are 3-2 SU on the year after losing to the Aggies 86-73 on the road on Nov. 15 in the front-end of this home and home series. McKenzie Moore leads the team with 14 points and three assists a game. Vince Harper leads the team in rebounds with 7.4 a game.

The Volunteers bounced back from that season-opening loss to Xavier with three straight wins including an 88-67 victory over Tennessee State in a game that ended as a PUSH. They are averaging 77.8 points a game and shooting 47.1 percent from the field. The hot hand for Tennessee has been Jordan McRae with 21.5 points a game while shooting 51.9 percent from the floor.

The Miners went 7-1-1 ATS in their final nine games last season and the total went OVER in four of the final five games. Tennessee has covered in seven of its last 11 games away from home and the total has stayed UNDER in six of those contests.

Green Bay Packers at Detroit Lions (-6.5, 49)

Green Bay's four-game winless streak can't be blamed entirely on the quarterback situation, as the defense has allowed 409.5 yards per game over the past four contests compared to 331.1 in the first seven. The Packers also are minus-3 in turnover margin over that span, though they did not have a giveaway against Minnesota. Rookie running back Eddie Lacy gained 158 yards on 31 touches against Minnesota.

Detroit has been hurt by self-inflicted wounds, committing eight turnovers in back-to-back losses since seizing control of the division with a win over the Bears in Week 10. Turnovers are the only thing slowing down the Lions' offense, which ranks sixth in total yards (412.1) and third in passing (308.4). The defense has held five straight opponents under 100 yards rushing but has struggled against the pass.

LINE: The Packers are 6 1/2-point favorites after opening as low as -5. The over/under is down one point to 49.
              WEATHER: N/A

              TRENDS:

              * Packers are 12-3 ATS in their last 15 games vs. the NFC North.
              * Lions are 6-13 ATS in their last 19 games on fieldturf.
              * Under is 5-1 in the last six meetings.

Oakland Raiders at Dallas Cowboys (-9.5, 47)

Raiders rookie quarterback Matt McGloin has done a credible job leading the offense considering running back Darren McFadden remains sidelined with a hamstring injury and receiver Denarius Moore (shoulder) sat out Sunday. The Raiders rank fifth in the league in rushing, but that's skewed by the 504 yards Pryor has racked up in eight games.

Dallas limped into its bye week after a 49-17 loss at New Orleans, but Romo's late heroics against the Giants might have saved the Cowboys' season. The offense is still inconsistent and leans too heavily on the pass, but having DeMarco Murray back to full strength should help get the running game going. Dallas allows 432.2 yards per game - most in the league - and gave up 202 rushing yards to New York.

LINE: Dallas is holding as a 9 1/2-point fave with the over/under up 1 1/2 points to 47.
              WEATHER: N/A

              TRENDS:

              * Raiders are 1-5 ATS in their last six Thursday games.
              * Cowboys are 2-8 ATS in their last 10 home games vs. teams with losing road records.
              * Under is 10-3 in Oakland's last 13 games following a SU win.

Pittsburgh Steelers at Baltimore Ravens (-2.5, 41)

Pittsburgh was held under 20 points in five of its first seven games but has come alive offensively during its winning streak, averaging 29 points. Ben Roethlisberger has cut down his interceptions and thrown seven touchdowns versus one pick while being sacked only once in the three-game run after getting taken down 35 times in the first nine contests.

Quarterback Joe Flacco became the league's highest-paid player after delivering a Super Bowl championship to Baltimore last season but he has already thrown a career-high 14 interceptions, including six in the past four games. Ray Rice failed to build on his season-high 131-yard performance on Nov. 17, managing only 30 yards on 16 carries Sunday to mark the seventh time he has been held to 36 yards or fewer.

LINE: Baltimore opened -1 but the line has been bet up to -2 1/2. The over/under is up a half-point to 41.
WEATHER: Temperatures will be in the high-20s under clear skies with wind blowing across the length of the field at 5 mph.

              TRENDS:

              * Steelers are 5-13 ATS in their last 18 road games.
              * Ravens are 6-1 ATS in their last seven home games.
              * Pittsburgh is 7-3-2 ATS in the last 12 meetings.

              NCAAF

Texas Tech Red Raiders at Texas Longhorns (-4, 66)

The Red Raiders, trying to avoid their second five-game losing streak in three years, lead the country in passing at 400.2 yards. Tight end Jace Amaro leads the team with 92 catches for 1,157 yards and is on pace to set the NCAA record for single-season receptions and yards by a tight end (Rice's James Casey had 111 catches for 1,329 yards in 2008).

Malcolm Brown (515 yards, nine touchdowns) and Joe Bergeron (240 yards, three TDs) have carried the load for Texas - which has the league's third-best running attack at 192.7 yards - after leading rusher Johnathan Gray (780 yards, four TDs) was lost to an Achilles injury two games ago. The Longhorns' defensive turnaround has Texas leading the Big 12 in total defense with 349.6 yards allowed in conference games.

LINE: Texas is holding as a four-point fave with the over/under set at 66.
WEATHER: Temperatures will be in the high-40s with clear skies.

              TRENDS:

              * Red Raiders are 1-10 ATS in their last 11 November games.
              * Longhorns are 10-2 ATS in their last 12 games following a double-digit loss at home.
              * Over is 25-9 in Texas Tech's last 34 games.

Mississippi Rebels at Mississippi State Bulldogs (+4.5, 53.5)

Quarterback Bo Wallace battled flu-like symptoms in a 24-10 loss to Missouri, which is one of four ranked teams to beat the Rebels this season. Freeze was unable to update the condition of the Wallace, who has completed 64.4 percent of his passes this season for 2,908 and 17 touchdowns, but the junior was at practice Monday. "There won't be any effect at all," said Wallace, who threw five touchdowns in last year's Egg Bowl.

Damien Williams is expected to start at quarterback Thursday after scoring the winning touchdown in last week's victory over Arkansas in relief of starter Tyler Russell, who injured his shoulder. Dak Prescott leads the team in passing and rushing, but won't be available unless the Bulldogs qualify for a bowl for the fourth consecutive season. "Damien took all the reps in practice," Mullen said. "I trust him."

LINE: Mississippi opened as a three-point fave but has been bet up to -4 1/2. The over/under is up from 52 to 53 1/2.
WEATHER: Temperatures will be in the high-20s with clear skies.

              TRENDS:

              * Rebels are 4-13 ATS in their last 17 November games.
              * Bulldogs are 6-1 ATS in their last seven home games vs. teams with winning road records.
              * Under is 8-3 in the last 11 meetings.

Oklahoma State Cowboys vs. Purdue Boilermakers (-13)

Painter keeps waiting for 7-footer A.J. Hammons to dominate a game this season, but other than some blocked shots here and there, the sophomore center has been pretty quiet, even against marginal competition. Hammons showed his offensive abilities at times last season, including a 30-point game against then-No. 2 Indiana followed by a 19-point, 13-rebound performance three nights later against Northwestern.

Le’Bryan Nash continues to find ways to get to the free throw line and don't be surprised if he tries to bait Hammons into early foul trouble. Nash has taken more than 100 free throws in each of the last two seasons and could become the fourth player in program history to take triple-digit free throws in three straight seasons. He’s averaging five trips to the line this fall and has bumped his percentage to 84 after shooting 74.1 last season.

LINE: Oklahoma State is installed as a 13-point fave.

              TRENDS:

              * Cowboys are 9-3-1 ATS in their last 13 non-conference games.
              * Boilermakers are 4-0 ATS in their last four games following an ATS loss.
              * Under is 5-1 in Oklahoma State's last six neutral-site games.

Wake Forest Demon Deacons at Kansas Jayhawks (-12.5)

The Demon Deacons are off to a sizzling start, having won their first five games by an average of nearly 19 points. They're led by sophomore guard Codi Miller-McIntyre (18.6 points, 4.8 assists), who shot just 3-of-10 in Wake Forest's win over The Citadel but racked up a season-best eight assists. Second-year forward Devin Thomas is also off to a strong start, averaging 14.4 points and a team-best 11.6 rebounds.

Most of the early-season focus has been on Jayhawks freshman Andrew Wiggins - and the standout Canadian hasn't disappointed, averaging 16.8 points along with 6.3 rebounds and 1.3 steals. But he has had plenty of help to date, as forward Perry Ellis (16.8 points, seven rebounds) and center Joel Embiid (8.8 points, eight rebounds, 1.5 blocks) have also contributed to Kansas' fast start. The Jayhawks are shooting 56.8 percent as a team.

LINE: Kansas is listed as a 12 1/2-point fave.

              TRENDS:

              * Demon Deacons are 4-0 ATS in their last four games vs. Big 12 opponents.
              * Jayhawks are 12-3 ATS in their last 15 games following a SU win.
              * Over is 11-2 in Wake Forest's last 13 neutral-site games.

                            November 28, 2013

The Thanksgiving Holiday weekend is loaded with action when it comes to college basketball starting with a monster matchup on Friday night in the NIT Tip-Off Tournament Finals from Madison Square Garden in New York.

                            NIT Tip-Off Final

No. 6 Duke Blue Devils vs. No. 4 Arizona Wildcats (ESPN, 6:00 p.m. ET)

The Blue Devils opened-up an 11-point lead at the half in their semifinal game against Alabama en route to a 74-64 victory to cover as nine-point favorites. They are now 5-1 straight-up on the year and 3-3 against the spread. The total has gone OVER in four of the six games. Freshman sensation Jabari Parker led Duke with 27 points and eight rebounds in the win over the Tide.

Arizona came very close to being a no-show in this much anticipated showdown after falling behind by 19 points in its semifinal matchup against the spirited Drexel Dragons. A furious second-half rally resulted in a tight 66-62 victory as a 12 ½-point favorite. The 6-0 Wildcats are now 4-2 ATS. The big man for Arizona in this game was Nick Johnson with 20 points, five rebounds and four assists.

Duke has covered the spread in nine of its last 13 neutral site games while the Wildcats have gone 4-2 ATS in their last six games played at a neutral site.

                            Other Games

Mount St. Mary’s Mountaineers vs. No. 1 Michigan State Spartans (Big Ten, 1:00 p.m. ET)

The Mountaineers head into this mountain-sized challenge with a record of 2-5 SU, but the good news is they have won their last two outings. All five losses have come on the road and none of their first seven games have had a posted line. Julian Norfleet is averaging 18.7 points a game while dishing out 5.4 assists a game and Sam Prescott leads the team in rebounds with 4.4 a game.

The No. 1 team in the nation moved to 6-0 SU with last Saturday’s 87-76 victory over Oklahoma in a game that ended as a PUSH. The Spartans are now just 1-2-2 ATS and the total has gone OVER in four of the five games. The duo of Gary Harris and Adreian Payne have combined for 34.9 of the team’s 83.9 points a game. Harris is shooting 87.5 percent from the foul line and Payne is shooting 51.4 percent from the field.

The total has gone OVER in four of the Mountaineers last five nonconference games and Michigan State is just 2-7-3 ATS in its last 12 games following a SU win.

Southern Miss Golden Eagles vs. No. 9 Louisville Cardinals (ESPN Full Court, 9:00 p.m. ET)

The Golden Eagles come into this matchup with a hot hand after going a perfect 6-0 SU (3-1 ATS) to start the year. In their biggest victory of the year they knocked off North Dakota State 70-69 as six-point underdogs on the road. Southern Miss is averaging 74 points a game and shooting 48.2 percent from the field with four different players scoring in double figures.

Last season’s national champs took an early tumble in the rankings with a 93-84 loss to then-No. 24 North Carolina this past Sunday as a 10-point favorite. The 5-1 Cardinals have now failed to cover in three of their last four games. Russ Smith continues to lead the way with 20.2 points and 3.5 assists as part of a team effort that is averaging 84.7 points a game while shooting 45.9 percent from the field.

The last time these two met was in January of 2005 with Louisville cruising to a 107-62 victory as an 11.5-point road favorite.

Florida State Seminoles vs. No. 15 Florida Gators (ESPN2, 7:30 p.m. ET)

Florida State come into this heated rivalry with a SU record of 5-1 and it has covered in four of its last five games. The only setback of the season was an 82-80 overtime loss to No. 22 Michigan as a three-point underdog. The Seminoles are shooting 50.7 percent from the field which is ranked 32nd in the nation and averaging 81.2 points a game. Ian Miller has led the way with 15.5 points while hitting 48.2 percent of his shots.

The Gators are also 5-1 SU on the year with a 2-1 record ATS. Their only setback was a 59-53 loss to No. 10 Wisconsin as 5 ½-point road underdogs on Nov. 12. Florida is averaging 74.7 points a game with a field goal percentage of 47.7 percent. Casey Prather has been a force with 19.2 points, six rebounds and 2.7 assists and the team as a whole has six players scoring in double figures.

The Seminoles come into this year’s showdown looking for revenge after getting hammered 72-47 last season as six-point home underdogs. The total stayed UNDER the 136-point closing line.

Here's a look at the marquee games set for Black Friday:

                              NBA

Golden State Warriors at Oklahoma City Thunder (-7, 203.5)

Warriors point guard Stephen Curry had 29 points and eight assists and was 6-of-10 from 3-point range in Wednesday's loss to the Dallas Mavericks. Curry recently missed two games due to a concussion and has yet to go on a sustained scoring binge despite averaging 20.5 points. Golden State C Andrew Bogut has recorded double digits on the boards in each of his last six games.

Oklahoma City received a huge effort from backup guard Reggie Jackson in Wednesday's gritty victory over the Spurs. Jackson matched his career high with 23 points and was 10-of-14 from the field on a night when star guard Russell Westbrook tallied a season-low six points on 2-of-16 shooting. Westbrook scored a season-best 31 points in a Nov. 14 loss to Golden State.

LINE: The Thunder are installed as seven-point faves, with the over/under dropping a half-point to 203 1/2.
                              TRENDS:

                              * Thunder are 5-1 ATS in their last six games.
                              * Over is 5-1 in the last six meetings in Oklahoma City.

New Orleans Pelicans at Philadelphia 76ers (OFF)

The Philadelphia 76ers stunned the basketball world on draft night by trading All-Star point guard Jrue Holiday to the New Orleans Pelicans. Holiday makes his return to Philadelphia on Friday as the Pelicans and 76ers square off for the second time in two weeks. The first matchup was heavily one-sided, as New Orleans coasted to a 135-98 home victory behind Anthony Davis' 13 points, nine rebounds and nine blocks.

In addition to Holiday, Pelicans starting center Jason Smith (10.8 ppg) is another former Sixer who was traded to New Orleans. Holiday had 17 points and Smith added 14 in Tuesday's one-point loss to Golden State — the Pelicans' second straight defeat following a three-game winning streak. Eric Gordon's decisive 3-pointer rimmed out at the buzzer against the Warriors.

LINE: There are no odds posted yet for this game.
                              TRENDS:

                              NHL

Pittsburgh Penguins at Tampa Bay Lightning (+118, 5.5)

The already-thin blue line suffered another setback with the loss of Paul Martin, who will be out 4-6 weeks with a broken leg. Former first-round pick Simon Despres moved into the lineup on the blue line. Recent callups Jayson Megna, Andrew Ebbett and Chris Conner played up front in the come-from-behind 6-5 shootout victory over Toronto on Wednesday. Sidney Crosby has totaled eight points in the last six games and boasts 33 overall.

Lightning head coach Jon Cooper said there are no concerns with goalie Ben Bishop, who took a puck off his hand at the morning skate on Wednesday and backed up Anders Lindback. Versatile forward Tom Pyatt and top-four defenseman Radko Gudas could be back soon, but left wing Ryan Malone was placed on the injured list with a lower-body injury. Lightning D Victor Hedman boasts four points in the last two games.

LINE: Pittsburgh is a -118 favorite with the over/under holding at 5 1/2.
                              TRENDS:

                              * Penguins are 1-5 in their last six road games.
                              * Lightning are 8-2 in their last 10 games after allowing fewer than two goals in their previous contest.
                              * Over is 7-0 in the last seven meetings.

St. Louis Blues at San Jose Sharks (-114, 5.5)

St. Louis extended its winning streak to five contests with a 4-1 triumph at Colorado on Wednesday. Alex Steen tied Washington's Alex Ovechkin for the goal-scoring lead with his 20th of the season and captain David Backes recorded a tally and an assist as the Blues improved to 10-1-1 over their last 12 games. Steen needed just 24 games to reach the 20-goal plateau for the third time in his career.

San Jose began its string of home games with regulation victories over Tampa Bay and New Jersey before outlasting Los Angeles in a shootout on Wednesday. Captain Joe Thornton, who also scored in second period, netted the decisive goal in the eighth round of the bonus format as the Sharks posted their sixth win in seven overall games. San Jose is 1-for-16 on the power play over its last five games.

LINE: The Sharks are listed as a -114 fave - down from a -118 open - with the over/under set at 5 1/2.
                              TRENDS:

                              * Blues are 4-0 in their last four games vs. teams with winning records.
                              * Sharks are 4-1 in their last five games vs. Western Conference foes.
                              * Blues are 5-0 in the last five meetings in San Jose.

Fresno State Bulldogs at San Jose State Spartans (+7, 71)

No. 13 Fresno State looks to complete an undefeated and untied regular season for the third time in school history when it visits San Jose State in its regular-season finale Friday. The Bulldogs have already wrapped up the West Division title in the Mountain West Conference and will play in the league championship game on Dec. 7. To finish perfect, Fresno State will have to defeat its longest-running rival, as the Spartans and Bulldogs have played 76 previous times.

A week after giving up 478 yards and 58 points in a loss to Navy, the San Jose State defense is feeling confident about going up against Fresno State's high-powered offense. Why? Because the Bulldogs are a passing team, something the Spartans are used to facing, as opposed to the run-oriented Midshipmen, who had 432 of their yards on the ground.

LINE: The Bulldogs opened at -9, but have been bet down to -7. The over/under is holding at 71.
WEATHER: Temperatures will be in the mid-60s with partly cloudy skies.
                              TRENDS:

                              * Bulldogs are 10-3 ATS in their last 13 road games.
                              * Spartans are 10-4 ATS in their last 14 games vs. teams with winning records.
                              * Favorite is 7-2 ATS in the last nine meetings.

Oregon State Beavers at Oregon Ducks (-21.5, 68.5)

Brandin Cooks is one of the offensive headliners for Oregon State, already possessing the school's single-season record with 110 receptions, just eight shy of the Pac-12 record set last season by Marqise Lee of USC. Of course, behind any record-setting receiver there is a big-time quarterback, and Sean Mannion has been terrific in 2013, completing 66 percent of his passes for 4,089 yards with 34 touchdowns.

The Ducks were ranked No. 2 in the BCS prior to their loss to the Cardinal and following last week's defeat, Oregon will sit back and watch as Stanford and Arizona State play for the league title next weekend. Mariota (3,127 passing yards, 529 rushing yards, 36 total touchdowns) suffered a head injury last week but passed the concussion protocol and expects to play against the Beavers.

LINE: Oregon is a 21 1/2-point fave after opening -21. The over/under is up one point to 68 1/2.
WEATHER: Temperatures will be in the high-40s with mostly cloudy skies.
                              TRENDS:

                              * Beavers are 8-2 ATS in their last 10 games following an ATS loss.
                              * Ducks are 6-2 ATS in their last eight games on fieldturf.
                              * Over is 10-1 in the last 11 meetings.

Mount St. Mary's Mountaineers at Michigan State Spartans (-25)

No. 1 Michigan State looks to strengthen its hold atop the rankings when the Spartans host Mount St. Mary's on Friday. For Michigan State, which boasts three players averaging more than 15 points, the Mountaineers offer a break in tough competition before facing No. 16 North Carolina on Dec. 4. Gary Harris leads the Spartans with 17.7 points despite shooting just 26.5 percent from 3-point range.

Adreian Payne adds 17.2 points and eight rebounds while Keith Appling averages 16.8 points and a team-high 5.7 assists. As a team, Michigan State ranks second in the nation with 21 assists per game. The Mountaineers, who have won back-to-back games after dropping their first five, are led by Julian Norfleet, who scores 18.7 points per game.

LINE: The Spartans come in as a 25-point favorite.
                              TRENDS:

                              * Mountaineers are 2-5 ATS in their last seven road games.
                              * Spartans are 2-7-3 ATS in their last 12 games following a SU win.
                              * Over is 4-1 in Michigan State's last five non-conference games.

Duke Blue Devils vs. Arizona Wildcats (+1.5)

Blue Devils freshman Jabari Parker leads the team with 23.6 points and 8.7 rebounds after matching his career high with 27 points on Wednesday. Parker is the first freshman since Kevin Durant (2006-07) to score at least 20 points in his first seven collegiate games. Rodney Hood adds 19.9 points but was held to eight points because of foul trouble Wednesday.

Nick Johnson leads Arizona with 17.3 points and 6-9 freshman Aaron Gordon adds 12.5 points and a team-high 9.7 rebounds. The Wildcats, who are playing Duke for the first time since knocking off the Blue Devils in the 2011 Sweet Sixteen, had 10 turnovers and zero assists in the first half of the semifinal win against Drexel before turning around the offense.

LINE: The Blue Devils come in as a slight 1 1/2-point favorite.
                              TRENDS:

                              * Blue Devils are 5-2 ATS in their last seven games vs. Pac-12 foes.
                              * Wildcats are 4-1 ATS in their last five games following an ATS loss.
                              * Under is 11-3-1 in Arizona's last 15 neutral-site games.

                              • Black Friday betting: Best deals in sports wagering

All the best buys with none of the waiting in line. How can you beat that?

While intrepid shoppers brave the elements for whatever bargains they can find on the day after Thanksgiving, bettors will also be seeking out the best deals available. Fortunately, there are plenty of hot-ticket items to choose from in the wagering world, as a handful of teams continue to reward bettors by providing maximum value on a consistent basis.

Here's a list of the top six hot buys heading into Black Friday:

                                NBA

                                Philadelphia 76ers

Philadelphia may have been exposed as an overachiever following its shocking 3-0 start to the season, but those Sixers are still piling up the points. The 76ers enter Friday night's action second in the Eastern Conference at 103.1 points per game - and combined with their league-worst defense (109.1 points against), they've been the early-season "over" darlings, compiling an 11-5-0 O/U mark. Even with numbers adjusted to account for Philadelphia's surprisingly potent offense - and truly dreadful defense - the 76ers should remain a popular "over" play.

                                Phoenix Suns

The rebuilding Suns were expected to be one of the worst teams in the Western Conference. Through the opening month of the season, they've managed to not only avoid the cellar, but remain a .500 team. This has made them a strong ATS play, entering Friday with an 11-3-1 mark. Even more unexpected than the strong start is how the Suns have done it - primarily through a solid defense allowing the 11th-fewest points per game in the league (98.8). If they can stay healthy, bettors should expect the wins to continue.

                                NFL

                                Houston Texans

Betting against Houston has been the deal of the century this season. No team has been worse ATS than the Texans, who have dropped nine straight games while generally looking like a team overloaded on turkey and stuffing. The defense, riddled with key injuries, looks a step behind against opposing pass attacks while the offense hasn't been in sync all season. That, along with a season-ending injury to workhorse running back Arian Foster, has led to an abysmal 2-9-0 mark ATS - and isn't likely to get any better, with games against New England and Denver coming up in the next month.

                                Minnesota Vikings

Two teams find themselves 9-2-0 in O/U so far this season. The first won't surprise anyone - it's the Peyton Manning-led Denver Broncos, who remain on pace to approach the single-season points record. The second is far more unexpected; the Vikings have the second-worst SU record in the NFC, but have been on the high end of the scoreboard more often than not. Yet, unlike the Broncos, the Minnesota offense deserves little credit for this trend. No one expected the Vikings' once-vaunted defense to allow a league-worst 346 points through the first 11 games of the year.

                                NCAAB

                                CSU Northridge Matadors

There's a lot to like about CSU Northridge - the nickname (everyone loves matadors), the location (San Fernando Valley represent) and the always-popular Botanic Garden, which is home to more than 1,200 plant species. But what will strike bettors' collective fancies the most is the Matadors' 0-6-0 ATS record through the first two weeks of the NCAA hoops season. CSU Northridge has had an underwhelming start, with all four of its losses coming by double digits and its two victories coming by a combined total of four points.

                                NCAAF

                                Eastern Michigan Eagles

Rare is the team that provides lock-caliber value on a weekly basis in two categories, which is what makes the Eagles the ultimate Black Friday find. Eastern Michigan has had a truly terrible season - going 2-9 both SU and ATS - but has been a source of great entertainment for fans and bettors alike with a stunning 10-1 mark O/U. Surrendering more than 50 points in six of the previous eight games certainly helps - and even though the Eagles average fewer than 20 points per game, they managed to score enough in their two victories to send those "over", as well. Double value alert!
