James Madison is playing 4th game in five nights after winning two of three in event in DeKalb, IL; Dukes have three starters back from 21-15 team LY that won CAA tourney. Detroit lost last game at UConn by 46; they're 0-2 vs D-I teams, shooting 11% outside arc, 36.8% inside. CAA home favorites are 1-3 vs spread; Horizon road underdogs are 8-9.

First road game for LaSalle, which won two home games by total of 10 points, after it lost in OT to Manhattan; Explorers have four starters on team from LY's 24-10 team- they whacked Penn State by 25 LY, making 16-31 behind arc. Penn State beat two stiffs by 12 points each, lost by 10 to Bucknell, which was 10-15 from arc, 24-31 from charity stripe.

Oklahoma State crushed three stiffs to start season; they made 45.6% of 3's, hard to tell much else from games like that. Cowboys have 4 starters back from LY's 24-9 team. Memphis turned ball over 21 times in 95-69 win over Austin Peay; they've got three starters back from 31-5 squad that won game in NCAAs LY. Big X home favorites are 7-5 vs spread.

First road game for DePaul team that scored 81.7 ppg in 2-1 start, losing 75-68 to Southern Miss; Blue Demons turned ball over 23.1% of time- they beat Milwaukee 84-50 LY, in brickfest where teams combined to go 3-32 behind arc. Panthers won last four games (two road wins) after loss by 4 at Loyola in opener. Horizon home teams are 2-5 against spread.

Colorado State lost all five starters from LY; they bounced back to beat Weber State by 21 after losing by 31 at Gonzaga. Rams beat UTEP by 4 at home LY, after leading by 13 in second half, then trailing by point at 2:47 mark. Miners lost by 13 at New Mexico State after beating couple non-D-I teams- they've got three starters back from LY's 18-14 team.

UNLV got smoked at home by UCSB, then nipped Omaha 73-70 in last game; Rebels are inexperienced, their best scorer Jones is playing hurt- they're shooting 50% from foul line, turned ball over 22.1% of the time. Arizona State crushed first three stiffs they played, making 44.6% from arc. Pac-12 favorites are 16-9 against the spread, 2-0 on foreign soil.

USC scored 75.7 ppg in 2-1 start, winning by 16-4 in its two games at home; Trojans made only 25% of 3's so far, 61.5% from foul line- they have -4 turnover ratio. Cal State-Fullerton is 2-1, losing at Seattle by 4 in its only road game, when Seattle made 12-25 from the arc in coming back from 51-33 deficit to win. Big West road underdogs are 4-8 vs spread.

Drexel was 25-38 from foul line in 71-64 win over Elon last night; they played four subs double digit minutes. CAA road underdogs are 5-6 vs spread. Rutgers is 3-1 after holding Canisius to 33% in 66-51 win last night; Knights have wins by 8-1-15 points, despite shooting just 29.3% bheind arc. AAC home favorites are 11-5 against the spread.

First road game for St Bonaventure team that won first three games, all by 22+ points; Bonnies beat Siena last three years, by 15-6-3 points-- they held Saints to 33% with +12 (17-5) turnover ratio in LY's 58-43 win, Siena is 0-3, giving up 76.3 ppg, losing by 12-11-4 points- they are turning ball over 20.6% of time, making 28% from arc, 43.6% inside it.

Auburn got drilled at 111-92 at home by Northwestern State Friday, as Demons made 14-27 from arc, scoring 72 points in second half, 44 in last 10:00 of game that Auburn led by 14 in second half. Tigers won opener by 22 over a stiff. Jacksonville State is 0-4, allowing 80.3 ppg, with last two teams that beat them both ranked outside top 300 in country.

Austin Peay turned ball over 22 times in 95-69 loss at Memphis, only D-I game so far; Governors have four starters back from LY's 8-23 team. Southern Illinois lost three starters from a 14-17 team; Salukis lost first two games by 13-9 points to top 50 teams, making just 26.7% from arc. Memphis at Oklahoma State: What bettors need to know

Memphis Tigers at Oklahoma State Cowboys (-6.5, OFF)

After beating up on lesser competition so far this season, No. 9 Oklahoma State will face a major test when it hosts No. 11 Memphis in an Old Spice Classic game Tuesday that should feature plenty of offensive fireworks. The Cowboys are outscoring opponents by an average of 102.3-55 in three victories, paced by Phil Forte’s 21-point average off the bench. Starters Markel Brown (15.3), Le’Bryan Nash (13.7), Marcus Smart (13.7) and Bryan Williams (10) average double-figures for Oklahoma State.

The Tigers were the last team in Division I to open their season, drubbing Austin Peay 95-69 in their lid-lifter on Nov. 14. Memphis’ talented backcourt lived up to its expectations, with returners Joe Jackson, Chris Crawford, Geron Johnson, and Missouri transfer Michael Dixon Jr. breaking the 10-point mark. Johnson also recorded a double-double, pacing Memphis with 10 rebounds.

TV: 8 p.m. ET, ESPN

ABOUT MEMPHIS (1-0, 1-0 ATS): With depth established in the backcourt, size in the paint was the biggest question mark for coach Josh Pastner entering this season, and at least in the Tigers’ season-opening win, it was answered. Freshman Nick King, who stands 6-7, poured in 13 off the bench and sophomore Shaq Goodwin showed the touch around the rim that made him such a highly touted recruit with 10. Memphis also outrebounded Austin Peay 50-27.

ABOUT OKLAHOMA STATE (3-0, 0-0 ATS): Three blowout victories have done nothing to diminish the big expectations in Stillwater with four starters returning from a squad that won 24 games and went to the Sweet 16 last season. Smart is the unquestioned leader of the group, surprisingly returning to school after a freshman season in which he averaged 15.4 points, 5.8 rebounds, 4.2 assists and three steals and won Big 12 Player of the Year honors. Joined by dangerous scorers like Brown and Nash, the Cowboys are a legitimate Final Four threat if they stay healthy under sixth-year coach Travis Ford.

Dayton won its first three games vs stiffs, despite turning ball over 21.2% of time, but they also made 48.3% behind arc. ACC home favorites are 9-13.

Northwestern lost 50-44 at home to Illinois-Chi LY, missing half their 20 foul shots, scoring only 18 points in second half; Wildcats got beat at home by young Illinois State team Sunday, their second loss in row after losing road opener at Stanford. UIC scored 62.5 ppg in losing first two D-I games, to Drake/Eastern Illinois. Big 10 home favorites are 8-8.

SMU hung on for 78-75 win at Texas State LY, after leading by 13 early in game; quick turnaround for Mustangs after Monday's 89-78 loss at Arkansas- SMU turned ball over 18 times, Hogs made 11-22 from arc. Texas State lost its first three games by 6-7-17 points, turning ball over 21.8% of time. AAC favorites are 13-8 vs spread, 2-2 away from home.

Xavier won its first three games, but turned ball over 21.4% of tine and shot 59.6% from line; they're 3-2 in last five games with Miami, taking wins by 6-7-3 points. Miami overscheduled and lost by 12-36 points in first two games, at Notre Dame/Arizona State- they're shooting 23.8% behind arc. Big East home favorites are 8-4 against the spread.

Wichita State hits road for first time after four wins by 14+ points- since they made Final Four last spring, Shockers have target on their back for mid-major foes. Wichita won its last three games with Tulsa by 3-10-26 points. Hurricane is 0-2, losing by combined nine points to Missouri St., Oral Roberts. MVC favorites are 4-6 vs spread, but 3-0 on road.

Valparaiso is 0-2 on road, losing at Illinois by 12, Ohio by 4; Crusaders turned ball over 22.2% of time, had 22% of shots blocked- thats terrible. Evansville scored 86.7 ppg in winning first three games, with D-I wins by 6-13 points. Aces made 42.1% of 3's, 85.5% from line (#3 in USA). MVC home favorites are 1-6; Horizon road underdogs are 9-9.

Iowa State pulled away (led by 11 at the half) for 83-62 home win over BYU LY; Cyclones shot 58% inside ard- they had a big home win over Michigan Sunday, in game with total of only 28 FTs. BYU won 112-103 at Stanford last week; Cougars are playing fastest tempo in country after 11 days, making 45.2% behind arc, turning ball over only 12.2% of time.

Fresno State beat Cal Poly 76-67 LY, after losing at home to Mustangs year before; Bulldogs are 2-1, losing by 21 at Pitt, beating couple of Big West teams, Irvine by 1 in OT, Northridge by 19. Cal Poly lost its first two games by 11-2 points, scoring only 60 ppg- they've turned ball over 22.9% of time. Mountain West road teams are 7-5 against the spread.

Pepperdine beat three stiffs to start year, but seeing as they were 12-27 last two years, they were stiffs then, so this is progress; Waves made an impressive 44.2% behind arc in first three games. San Jose State scored 60.8 ppg in losing its first four games; none of its foes are ranked above #164 in country. WCC home favorites are 13-4 against the spread.

North Dakota State lost by point at home to Southern Miss Monday; they must think they're going to win league- their non-league schedule is better- they lost by 13 at St Mary's before that. Western Michigan went 2-1 out in Hawai'i last week, losing at hosts by 10; Broncos lost three starters from LY's 22-13 team. MAC underdogs are 9-7 against spread.

Purdue is 3-0, but they beat Northern Kentucky by 1, Rider by 4, so its not an impressive start by Boilers, who have four starters back from LY and expect to be improved this year (16-18 LY). Eastern Illinois lost at Northwestern by 17, then won at UIC by 20. they've got 11 new guys on team this year after going 11-21 LY. OVC road underdogs are 9-13.

Illinois State lost first two games by 38 at VCU, by 8 at home to a good Drexel team, then upset Northwestern in Evanston Sunday; this wll be their 4th game alreadyvs team ranked in top 120. Redbirds are shooting just 24.2% from arc. Manhattan made 44.9% of its 3's in 2-1 start, with double OT win at LaSalle, 71-70 win vs Columbia, 80-74 loss at GW.

Puerto Rico Tip-Off

November 20, 2013

This Thursday from the Coliseo Roberto Clemente in San Juan, the 2013 Puerto Rico Tip-Off gets underway featuring teams such as No. 10 VCU, No. 14 Michigan, Georgetown, Kansas State and Florida State. To help get you ready for all the action, the following is a tip-sheet for Thursday's opening round games.

Charlotte 49ers vs. Kansas State Wildcats (EPSNU, 10:30 a.m.)

Oddsmakers opened Kansas State as a 5 ½-point favorite but the number quickly dropped to 4 ½.

Charlotte is 2-1 SU (2-0 ATS) in its first three games and coming off a 83-69 victory over Elon last Saturday as a 2 ½-point home favorite. It has scored an average of 81.7 points a game behind the hot hands of Shawn Lester and Pierria Henry, who are both averaging 17 points a game. All told the 49ers have four players averaging at least 13 points a game.

Kansas State improved to 2-1 SU (0-1-1 ATS) with Sunday's win over Long Beach State. The Wildcats started the season on a bad note with a 60-58 loss to Northern Colorado as 12 ½-point home favorites. They are averaging 66.7 points a game and shooting 41.7 percent from the field. Marcus Foster leads the team in scoring with 16.7 points a game.

Miami won last three games, vs teams ranked outside top 200, after OT loss to #192 St Francis in opener; Hurricanes made 7-11 from arc in its 70-54 win at Charleston Monday. Central Florida made just 5-22 behind arc in 72-50 loss to Miami last year; UCF is turning ball over 21.5% of time in 2-1 start, with only loss 80-68 at home to Florida State.

Florida has injury/suspension issues; they've still forced turnovers on 22.8% of time. Gators beat Middle Tennessee 66-45 LY, shooting 58% from floor, pulling away from 29-26 halftime lead. Blue Raiders are 4-0 but are on road for first time- their best win was 80-73 vs Akron. SEC home favorites are 10-4 vs spread. C-USA road underdogs are 9-7.

Gonzaga beat Washington State 89-81/71-69 last two years, after losing to Coogs year before that; this has become bigger game for State, since Zags became mational program. Gonzaga made 45.7% of 3's in 3-0 start, winning by 24-32-15 points. Wazzu allowed 60 ppg in winning its first two games vs stiffs. WCC home favorites are 13-6 against the spread.

Kansas State won its last two games by 8-13 points after losing opener to Northern Colorado; Wildcats are shooting 25.9% from arc, 61.5% on foul line. Charlotte blew 16-point halftime lead and lost to Charleston by point- they beat couple stiffs by 5-14 points. Big X home favorites are 9-5 against the spread. C-USA road underdogs are 9-7 vs spread.

Georgetown hasn't played in 8 days since beating Wright State by 18, in first game after they got back from Korea (lost to Oregon by 7). Hoyas made 29.7% behind arc in first two games. Northeastern lost first couple games to America East teams (Boston U by 3, Stony Brook by 7), beat Central Connecticut by 7 last game. CAA underdogs are 7-5 vs spread.

Michigan made just 8-29 from arc in 77-70 loss at Iowa State Sunday, its first loss after wins by 27-34 over stiffs. Long Beach State is young and in trouble against this non-league schedule, losing three games by 34-1-13 points, after beating an NAIA team. Big Dozen favorites are 12-9 vs spread. Big West road underdogs are 4-10 against the spread.

VCU forced turnovers on 29% of possessions in winning its first three games by 38-3-21 points; Rams won by 3 at Virginia of ACC in its only road game. Florida State scored 86.7 ppg in winning its first three games by 24-12-28 points, but they've turned ball over 24.3% of time. FSU is #4 in country at forcing turnovers, getting one on 27.3% of possessions.

Nebraska won its first three games by 24-15-26 points; Cornhuskers are forcing turnovers 24.3% of time, making 41.9% of 3's, but UMass will be step up in competition, having already beaten Boston College, LSU while scoring 89 ppg. Minutemen have four starters back from a 21-12 team. A-13 favorites are 8-11 vs spread. Big Dozen underdogs are 1-2.

New Mexico scored 98.5 ppg in winning first two games vs stiffs; hard to tell much from that, but Lobos have four starters back from 29-8 club to go with its new head coach, former assistant Neal. UAB won its first two D-I games, beating Rutgers/Troy while scoring 80 ppg. Blazers are turning ball over 20.3% of time, but they killed Rutgers/Troy on boards.

Georgia split its first two games, losing 80-71 at home to Ga Tech in last game Friday. Davidson allowed 87.3 ppg in losing first three games, by 34-4-13 points; teams are shooting 62% inside arc, 41% from arc against them. SEC teams are 2-4 vs spread away from home; SoCon teams have covered only three of 20 games, two of 16 as an underdog.

Clemson allowed 48.3 ppg in winning first three games, beating its rival South Carolina 71-57 Sunday, holding SC to 35.4% from floor. Temple lost four starters from LY, lost to Kent State/Towson last couple games while allowing 78 ppg and forcing turnovers only 11.4% of time. ACC favorites are 14-8 vs spread. Big East underdogs are 0-2 against spread.

Indiana scored 92 ppg in winning first four games, all at home, but their 1-point win over LIU is little bit of red flag; Hoosiers held its first four opponents to 25.8% behind arc. Washington scored 88-92 points in its two wins, but also lost by 14 at home to Cal-Irvine. Long trip east for Huskies. Pac-12 underdogs are 2-2. Big Dozen favorites are 12-9.

South Dakota State lost its first three D-I games by 8-9-4 points, with win over NAIA team since then; Jackrabbit opponents are making 61% of shots inside arc. Texas Tech beat three stiffs, lost by 7 at Alabama in its only road game; Red Raiders are making 59.3% of shots inside arc, but also only 59.3% from line. Big X favorites are 9-6 against spread.
