Wayne's post in post #14 says it all about the Braves. Smoltz the face of that orginization for years gets IGNORED by the front office. Not released, not kicked out, no pay cuts, no terminations, IGNORED.

Tell me 3J, would you rather be fired or let go from a job at the end of your contract, or just ignored every time you to negotiate a new one.

      A couple of things-
If the point of the thread is that they should not have released him, which is what I took it to be, I disagree. I agree that it was handled poorly by the organization. Instead of trying to sugar coat things and say it was not financially motivated they should come out and say it.
For Glavine to now say that he believes the Braves wanted to see him hurt is comical.
Smoltz - if what you say is correct, they should have just told him we are moving on...they shouldn't have let him waiting, if that is what they did.
Here is a quote from Glavine's agent when he was looking to sign with the Mets in 2002 - where was Glavine's loyalty then not to go back to the Braves? "If the Atlanta Braves are interested in having the services of Tom Glavine for next year and beyond, they're going to have to step up and make an offer," Clifton said. "They should not anticipate Tom coming back to them at the very end, simply out of respect for the Mets and the Phillies and the professionalism they've showed him."

Exactly. They can release him, but they can't do what they did. I'm in total agreement with this statement.

Mavs, check my posts, where did I ever defend how they treated Smoltz? If what he posted is true, they we were with how it was handled but is the organization wrong for wanting to move on? They should have just told him we aren't resigning you.

As for me, I would want the truth. If my contract expired, I would want to know they didn't want me back. If I got fired, I'd want the truth as to why. But I respect the organization for having the ability tom ake the decision and understand it may very well not be what I want to hear.

Those words came right from Smoltz's mouth on WEEI and the Jim Rome show.

Smoltz also said he loves it up here in Boston already. He slammed the Braves by saying it feels good to play for a professional organization that treats people like people and is up front with you in everything they do. He said the organization in Boston is very precise with everything they do and they are hands on about winning. He said he hasn't seen that in awhile in Atlanta.

How they handled it. "They can't handle it the way they did"

3J read the whole thread. Look at what Tech said in numerous posts about how the whole thing went down. This wasn't simply a team releasing player.

I think you think that what the Braves did was right. Glavine was pissed, and the Braves apologized for how they handled it, so it's pretty obvious they are at fault here. Team's don't issue apologies for no reason/

Mavs, let me make it clear- the only way the Braves f'd this up imo was A) by saying it was 'performance based' and B) how they communicated it to Glavine. But you and Tech would still be here bitching about it even if they let him go and did those two things correctly. The apology the org gave was for how it was communicated, not for letting him go, and kudos to them for admitting they handled the communication piece like a bunch of amateurs. The thought that they should have carried his ass for $4.5 million on the roster because of his loyalty to the organization, which was a statement Tech made and seemed to be supported by others, is imo insane!

Wayne, not doubting what you said about Smoltz...but there are two sides to every coin and I never paid close attention to how it played out. If that is how he became a Red Sox, then if I were him, I'd be pissed to! I am not interested enough to go find out so I will take your word for it.

I have NO DOUBT that is how it went down. First off, Smoltz has been nothing but professional his whole career. A great guy and great player that has never been involved in pretty much anything negative. The fact that he was bitter enough to slam the Braves hard in 2 different interviews speaks VOLUMES about the Braves. Most guys and especially guys like Smoltz and his character would take the high road. He hasn't and it is easy to see how pissed he is. I have not a heard a word from the Braves about it either. Something tells me if he was lying about being ignored, the Braves would have at least cleared that up by saying we did tell him or offer him something. Nothing, not a word from the Braves.

What in God's name are you talking about.

Glavine's pissed, and the orginization apologizes. And me and tech are upset about how the orginization has treated Smoltz like shit, Glavine like shit and eventually they will Maddux, Chipper and Cox too.

We are fans of the Braves, we can bitch and moan about the front office being a bunch of shit heads all we want.

And no if they handled shit the way they should have, nothing would have been said. But you can believe what you want. I for one have no clue what you're talking about.

READ POST #9 again and tell me again that if the Braves picked up the telephone and said 'You know, Tommy...this just isn't working for us. We have some young guns coming up and we need the spot on the 40 man roster. We can't bring you back at your salary, your age and we are going to let you go. Thank you for your committment to the organization even if you did fuck us up the ass in 2003!' that Tech fan (ok, maybe not you but I think you would still be pissed with them) would be ok with that? Based on his post, I don't think he would (and as he fan, he can be pissed all he want...you too!) but we will never know.
I'm done and you are right...Braves do suck!!!

You make it sound like me and tech are in and out everyday bitching about everything the Braves do.

You're right though, the Braves FO does suck. Our team doesn't though. Chipper and co. are taking back the East this year Jack. You can bank it.

Don't worry the Mets still have a shot at the wild card.
