He was VERY, VERY, bitter with Braves management saying after all those years, they could have at least talked to him or said they were moving on or something. Instead they turned their head and ignored him. He is still pissed about how he was treated on the way out and i don't blame him.

HE WAS MAD ABOUT THE WAY THEY TREATED HIM I AGREE BUT MAD IS NOT THE WORD TO USE AFTER WHAT HE SAID YESTERDAY ABOUT THE WAY THEY HANDLED GLAVINE.HE SAID HE HAD TO BE PROFESSIONAL THE WAY HE HANDLED HIMSELF WITH THE BRAVES SITUATION ABOUT HIMSELF HE SAID YESTERDAY NOW I CAN SAY EVERYTHING I WANTED TO SAY BEFORE PLUS SOME AFTER WHAT THEY DID TO GLAVINE.HE WENT OFF ON THE MANAGEMENT OF THIS TEAM BAD.I WOULD LOVE TO HAVE BEEN IN THE ROOM WHEN THEY MADE THIS DECISION THAT YOU KNOW WHAT THIS IS THE BEST PR MOVE WE CAN MAKE RELEASING GLAVINE AND THEY ALL AGREED. HOW STUPID ARE THESE GUYS THINKING THIS WOULD ACTUALLY MAKE THE TEAM LOOK GOOD FOR THE FANS

John Schuerholz(president of the Braves) now issues an apology saying"I'm not regretting the decision making.I'm regretting the manner in which it was portrayed and explained to Tommy.I feel like I could have done a better job with that". Your fucking right you could have done a better job explaining it to "Tommy" you dumb ass.

I can tell you and mavs are the few passionate braves fans. I mean I lost all respect for the fans of the braves when the day of a World Series game you could walk up and buy tickets. That says it all. Something like that would never EVER occur in places like boston, nyc, philly, pittsburgh, baltimore no way no how recession depression whatever it would be a sell out no doubt about it
Pittsburgh or Baltimore would never be in a World Series anyway so it wouldn't matter...........

Why do we get all ramped up and excited when stuff like this happens? This happens every single day to tons of people in the business world and if we haven't learned by now that sports is a business, no matter what any GM or President says, then we never will.....

Glavine will always be remembered as a Met anyway....

Come on 3J, there are certain guys who are exceptions to these "sports is a business" rules.

And guys like Glavine are certainly an exception. You can let him go, but do it with some dignity.

Do you guys forget that he left the Braves in 2003 for less than a million bucks a year in base salary...was that not about money? Where was the loyalty to the city and fans? Where was the outrage? Where was the threads slamming Glavine?

Glavine is acting like a whiny bitch saying that he believes the Braves wanted him to get hurt.....

                    Please.....

I don't know the reasons why or how Smoltz was let go. But letting go a verteran who wants to hang around is never an easy thing and is rarely ever handled right...but how do you handle it? Is it wrong for an organization to want to turn the page and get younger? How do you do it with 2 40+ pitchers who want to still pitch? Because they were good to the organization (and I question Glavine more than Smoltz here) do you just continue to sign them to one year contracts until they are ready to call it a career? Set your franchise back becasue you want to reward their loyalty?

I know I am in the minority but these players get paid a ton of money to play a game I wish I could play. And part of the deal is sometimes you get screwed...but we all get screwed...I put 12 yrs in for an organization who transferred me to Boston in Jan '04 saying that I was someone that they wanted to build on. In Feb '05 I walked into my GM's office and was told 'we have decided to go in a different direction', was given a check for 6 mos salary and walked out. I had no idea it was comong. Had just had dinner with the GM and his wife at his house the night before! I come to find out later that there was someone at another hotel that had a contract and the hotel was closing so I was let go because he had a contract and I didn't and I made too much money to be moved.

Is it fair...no. But it is big business and it happens to everyone. And these guys get paid a whole lot more than I do/did. And for Glavine to bitch and moan...F him!!!

Three Jack, Did you read post #14? Don't you think he deserved better and the Braves could have done better? The fact that these things happened to Glavine too and the Braves apologized tells me something ......

The Braves had an option on his contract for one more year. One year, and then the contract was done, and the Braves could cut ties, or re-sign as they choose.

If I remember correctly the contract wasn't much for the Braves I think it was less than $5 million. And the Braves sent him packing. Glavine turned around and signed with a rival and didn't do too bad as a Met for a few years.

They declined Glavine for a few million, when the Mets thought he was worth $10 M a year. Real good managing up there.
