You ever see that Christmas cartoon with the land of the misfit Toys/QB's?
Ronny, Brady has not missed a game in like 6 years so spending alot of money on a backup made no sense and all those names you just mentioned are an ABSOLUTE JOKE!
I can't even believe, that you believe, any of that horseshit with those guys. Please .........
Who said spend lots of money on a backup? I dont even think Harrington is on a team right now and Simms just recently signed and most of these guys play for peanuts with a clause to get more money if they actually start.
I understand what you are saying about these QBs being trash but when the Ferrari breaks down Id rather drive to work in a Saturn instead of riding the back of a donkey.

I dont know what yer talkin about with the cartoon but I do know the QBs on that list can throw the ball down the field especially on a decent team with a decent defense, weapons and O line.

Who cares, so they would go (10-6) instead of (7-9) and bow out in round 1 of the playoffs. Again, who cares about that Ronny. Give me (2-14) and a great draft pick over that crap. All those QB's listed are so good that they all lost starting jobs in this league and could never grab one back. I wonder why ..........

Are you kidding me? Harrington couldn't even make the Falcons roster Ronny. Why? Because he sucks, that's why. How many times do you need to see him play and suck before it sinks in? They were convinced that Cassell knew the playbook inside and out and could play. After one start he is the worst guy ever? Gimme a break Ronny ...... PLEASE!

very good point, lets use what we have now in NE, and say if we are lucky enough to go .500 that's ok because it will get the pats working on getting a quality back-up for the future.

Ive seen him twice and the guy is incompetent and the coaches must agree because they run a watered down playbook with him.
As for players like Harrington sure they arent the greatest but they are always stuck in crap situations as well.....it was poor planning by the Patriots and Ill leave it at that.

I'm no Cassell fan either but he is basically (2-1), (1-1) in starts and he has 2 TD passes and 1 Int.
I've seen much worse in this league. Let the guy play a few games and see where he is at. He won in NY and Kurt Warner couldn't pull that off. That Miami offense was on the field all day and it was simply a bad game for EVERYONE, especially the defense. Let's not make Matt Cassell out to be the soul taker of that effort.

I agree, Miami made the NE D look like school boys, was no way Cassels fault. Some guys didn't see the game and are laying the blame on the QB. I think Cassel will produce thru out the season. I'm worried about the D!
I don't want to sound too bleak because I am a Pats fan, but lets be real here.
Pats had an outstanding season last year even though they lost SuperBowl(can't do better than undefeated in regular season).
However, if you recall, during the last third of the season or so, they were not that impressive, weren't coming close to covering the line in many of those games and were lucky to win a few of them.
They were truly horrible in the Exhibition Season(Yeah I know it is exhibiiton but I assure you they wanted to win at the very least the second last one).
Then come the regular season, they were not impressive in their first game against KC and then Brady getsn hurt and is out for the season.
I give them credit for defeating the Jets, but we all know what happened against the Dolphins.
I am not predicting disaster, but can anyone say with a straight face, considering that other teams have improved themselves and that everything went right for Pats last year, that the Pats really have much more than a 50/50 chance of even making the playoffs this year?
Big mistake by the team baking up Brady with that donkey Cassell though.........championship teams should have a competent backup especially since they are a pass happy team.
PEACE
I agree with Wayne. Most backups are meant for emergency backup for part of a game or a game or two. Not an entire season.
There's barely enough capable starting NFL QBs. You want a team to have two competent starting Qbs?
How many NFL teams have competent backups? It's possible NE thought they had another diamond in the rough. No one expected Brady to become a superstar. Same with Romo.

Not that impressive in their season opener? Brady was hurt 7 minutes into the game. Did you expect them to march up and down the field in those 7 minutes especially when one considers Brady didn't play during the exhibition?
What were your expectations? Look at Indy. Manning didn't play in the exhibition season. Indy's been struggling.
Ellis Hobbs was 100% correct. Patriots fans have been spoiled. The same fans that booed and walked out after having an undefeated season. You are the epitome of a Patriots fan.

First of all, I am a Pats fan, but it pales in comparison to my being a Red Sox fan.
You make a valid point about the Pats in game 1.
My basis point is that starting sometime in the last 1/3 of the season, there has been a slow delcine in how impressive the Pats have been in their games;obviously some of it had to do with how great they played during the first 2/3 of last season;it would be asking too much for a team to maintain that.
However, the decline9for a lack of a better word) began before Brady got injured and carried over into SuperBowl.
No, exhibiiton games don't mean much, and Brady didn't play, but still going totally winless is not good either.
I can't prove it, but I maintain that even if Brady didn't get hurt, they would not have been anywhere as awesome as they were at the beginning of the season although the odds would have still been very good to at least make the playoffs if not win the division.
Granted the loss against Miami is just one game, but last I looked, quarterbacks don't play defense.
I think if they win 11 games this season it will be a miracle and more likely 9 or tops 10.
What do you think?
I said competent....I didnt say back him up with Peyton Manning. Matt Cassell is a donk who hasnt started a game since high school before the Jets game for a reason and you want him starting for your team? In all honesty they would be much better off with Harrington that Cassell and thats saying lots.
