A new wrinkle has been added to the Manny Ramirez to Marlins' scenario. A source told MLB.com that a three-way trade may be in the works.

Under this scenario, Ramirez would go to the Marlins, while Jeremy Hermida would go to the Pirates, and Jason Bay would go to the Red Sox.

The Marlins are not afraid to roll the dice and gamble. Team president David Samson, when asked on the team's flagship station, 790 The Ticket, was asked about the Manny Ramirez rumors.

"The Marlins always seem to be in the middle of everything," Samson said. "I don't know how we do that every deadline. We're spending all day trying to figure out a way where we can get better, to stay good, to try to figure out a way how we could win this thing. Everything is possible."

Multiple baseball sources say the Red Sox are on the verge of sending disgrunted left fielder Manny Ramirez to the Marlins in a trade for a package of three players that included low Class A Greensboro outfielder Mike Stanton, an 18-year-old who is hitting .275/.351/.569 with 26 home runs in 96 games.

The Yankees, Tigers, Rangers, and Rays have talked to the Mets about Scott Schoeneweis. The Mets might prefer to acquire a replacement if they move Schoeneweis. Arthur Rhodes is one possibility if he doesn't end up in Florida.

The Yanks might have to acquire a reliever now that they've dealt Kyle Farnsworth. Rhodes isn't on their radar though.

The Ivan Rodriguez trade could kick off other trades for catchers.

The Yankees have been getting calls on Carl Pavano. One unconfirmed rumor has the Mets interested.

The Yankees continue to hope and believe that Seattle will drop its demands for left-handed starter Jarrod Washburn (so far the Mariners have asked for either Melky Cabrera or Brett Gardner and for the Yankees to assume all of Washburn's $10.35 million 2009 salary), and they have not entered into serious discussions on any other available starter on the market. They believe that they'll be able to get Washburn in August if the Mariners lower their demands, since his salary makes it likely he'll clear waivers at least until they can claim him.

A very interesting name that came up today was that of Seattle closer J.J. Putz, who has been connected to both the Red Sox and the Mets in various scuttlebutt today. Putz is a power arm who would strengthen the back end of anybody's bullpen. But after all the frustration teams have had trying to pry people like Washburn, Rhodes and Raul Ibanez out of Seattle, it's hard to imagine it's going to be easy to get the Mariners' closer.

              Dodgers interested in Maddux

The Dodgers and Padres continue to have conversations about veteran starter Greg Maddux, and the two sides are beginning the process of exchanging names and perhaps working toward a deal.

                Ibanez to cubs ?

The Mariners still want Jon Niese and another prospect for Raul Ibanez; the Mets are not biting.

Similar situation with the Ms asking the Cubs for Felix Pie and another player for Ibanez

The Red Sox today are talking to the Braves about reliever Will Ohman, who has a 2.84 ERA, 13 holds, and 41 strikeouts (with 18 walks) in 44 1/3 innings pitched this season.

Besides the Red Sox, five other teams are discussing Ohman with the Braves, who are looking for a pitching prospect in return. A logical name that might surface in trade talks with Atlanta from the Red Sox farm system is Double-A pitcher Daniel Bard, who is 2-1 with a 2.63 ERA in 37 2/3 innings pitched for the Sea Dogs this season.

The Marlins could be closer to a deal to acquire left-handed reliever Arthur Rhodes from the Seattle Mariners, who are looking only for a midlevel minor-league prospect in return. Rhodes, 37, is 2-0 with a 3.83 ERA in 35 relief appearances this season.

The Twins have asked the Giants about Rich Aurilia. They've been dangling Boof Bonser for a position player; would they trade him back to San Francisco for Aurilia?

On the Phillies' radar: John Grabow, Will Ohman, Arthur Rhodes, and Jack Taschner.

The White Sox will trade Orlando Cabrera for the right pitcher. The Sox aren't generating much interest in their prospects.

The Rangers inquired on three pitchers recently: Zack Greinke of the Royals, Boof Bonser of the Twins, and Nick Masset of the White Sox. Greinke would be near-impossible to pry loose, though Chris Davis would be an interesting offer.
