Chado I am not bashing you and no you haven't done anything wrong to me all I am saying is this...CLEARLY people are split on this, I personally believe that there are more refs than just Donaghy out there but the entire league is NOT corrupt...there is no way it would not have slipped out sooner...
AS for my comment, Chado you say some people are too closed minded to see the other side of the argument but do you realize that you have become the exact same way? It is fine to have opinions chad, actually I embrace that people have their own minds but you say people are too closed minded to see the "obvious" yet you are too closed minded to see ANY logic other than your own and all who oppose you, you tell them they're wrong and put that hand smacking the face thing....
not 'bashing' you but can you not see that you fail to see two sides of an argument as well?

You know this whole Donaghy thing reminds me a bit of the JFK assassination.
Some say to this day that it was just one man acting alone.
Others say it was a CIA thing, the LBJ was involved, it was plotted by other countries, etc.
As we all know, there have been tons of books written about the matter.
While circumstances with Donaghy are different, the same issues and principles apply.
It comes down to how one evalautes the "evidence" that others besides Donaghy were involved.
I have chosen to believe based of what I have seen over the years in the NBA and the Donaghy incident, that others have been involved.
Obviously, my opinion along with anyone who agrees/ disagrees with me is conjecture at this point, and it may be many years or perhaps never to find out in what games there were attempts to fix the ats or totals outcome.
It is sure enjoyable to give and exchange varying opinions on this matter though.

I agrre with you, as I tried to explain to GholdenGreak, let's wait and see....at this point no one REALLY knows....let the proper people do the investigation, and then take action, and at that time, I'll come back and say I was wrong, if proven that way....
Thanks Mr savage 1

Lots of emotions and heated arguments in this thread.
In a nutshell, the VIG is what gets you. No getting around it, unless you are the bookmaker or the house. Read on, if you want an elementary diatribe. If not, stop now.
The reality is that not every game is on the level, in any sport. As long as humans are involved, it is simply not possible to have 100% purity. Officials have a difficult job to govern a game even when complete objectivity is the intent. They don't have the benefit of instant replay; rather, they must decide in an instant. And it would be terribly unrealistic and naive to imagine it even possible to get it right every single time.
The problem I have is with people gambling on such events, knowing it may or may not equate with karmic perfection, and then not accepting the result. There is no guarantee on any outcome, other than the odds are stacked against the gambler, even if every game was on the level.
Horse/Dog racing/Jai Alai ( parimutuel) The house takes a minimum of 20% on every event, to pay purses and expenses. The bettors are betting against each other, and the only sure winner is the house. Those dreaming of "free money" keep coming back as they see the big payouts posted on the toteboard.
Casino/board games Varying rates of house edge ensure that with the infinite amount of time and nearly infinite supply of resources, over time the house will always come out on top. If you don't believe this, consult the City Planner's office in Las Vegas. They are not constructing new 50-story hotels ( that give out lots of free rooms..wink wink) because the house is taking a beating. Blackjack played with basic strategy is nearly even-money, with the smallest house edge outside of baccarat. Card counting BJ players do own a small % edge over the house, and is why the house is so intent on cracking them. Craps, Roulette, Spin the Wheel, Pai Gow Poker, et al are cash cows. The slot machines are required by law to pay out a certain % over time, and while we all hear of the big winners, it is the losers who fund the big winners.
Volume, volume, volume.
Poker This is a game that is legal in Texas, provided the house does not cut the pot, known as the "rake." Like with parimutuel, players are pitted against each other, and the house serves as the distributor, and takes a fee.
Sports Legal to bet in Nevada and offshore, this multi-billion-dollar industry thrives for the same reasons as the aforementioned ones. Greed and the desire to obtain easy money, coupled with desperation and poor discipline and money-management techniques, make for a difficult road for any long-term success. A typical , and most common, event features 11:10 odds, meaning the house collects $11 for every $10 paid to the winners. Exotic wagers such as teasers and parlays offer even higher payouts, corresponding with higher odds against cashing. The only people generating guaranteed profits are the touts and the house themselves.
I could ramble on and on, but leave with this point.
It is said that 2-3 % of sports bettors turn any profit long-term, and roughly 5% of poker players do same. Obviously the losers are in the majority, by a long way.
While corruption and greed are inevitable by-products of any endeavor involving humans exchanging cash money, it is indeed rare that these transactions are made under duress, or "with a gun to the head."
The final point is this: While there are an undetermined number of games "fixed", or corrupted, the majority of all of them, and I am talking almost all of them , are straight, meaning no funny business involving referees, players, coaches, etc. There is nothing forcing anyone to place wagers on one side or the other. And remember, for every loser there is a winner, and vice versa. Simple mathematics and probability offer the real chance that if one has been betting on sports/races/games for any length of time, "fixed" games have occurred, and while the chance is high that the bettor has been on the wrong side of the " fix", the odds are virtually equal that the bettor has been on the unknowing right side of the "fix" an equal amount of times.
In other word, it is the vigorish ( vig, juice) that gets you over time, not the disproportionate amount of fixed games. If you know this before you start, and understand the odds are already stacked against you, and still bet, then you are a fool. It is the idea of beating the game, a sense of competitive pride, that keeps most of us at it.
Betting of any sort should only be done as a hobby or recreation, with couch or ashtray money that can be lost without any consequence. If you expect to win, with an unlevel pay structure standing right before your very eyes, then you are misguided. Just don't blame the "fix" for your deficient account. Blame the "vig", and at the very least you will on the road to honest full self-disclosure.
And I am going to take a nap now.You can't always get what you want, but if you try some time, you might find, you get what you need.
