  • Warriors make offer to Elton Brand

According to a league source, the Warriors have offered free agent Elton Brand a five-year deal worth between $85 and $90 million.
The Warriors can now offer Brand more money than the Clippers, but we'd be surprised if Brand goes anywhere. Part of the reason that Baron Davis left the Warriors was supposedly so that he could go play with Brand in L.A. It would be surprising to see Brand go to Golden State, but anything is possible considering they can pay him close to $20 million more than the Clippers.

There had to some sort of collusion, or Brand would take the $20 million extra. No way the Clippers would sign Baron without keeping Brand. Something fishy is going on. Hopefully we have a Carlos Boozer part 2 going on here.

It means nothing. Boston offered Maggette a contract too that has about zero chance of happening. Golden St offered Arenas 100 million and everybody knew/knows he is staying in Washington and now G.S. has extra money and they are offering it up to the only player left worthy of it. Well, L.A. can offer 6 years and G.S. can only offer 5 and with Davis there, once again G.S. has about zero % chance of getting him like the others. These offers are made for 1 reason and 1 reason only ... to make the fans "Think" they are trying. In reality, Mullin knows he has very little chance of getting him.

I don't know Wayne...offering Brand $18 million a year for 5 yrs is more than making their fans think they are trying...I believe they are! I agree with the Maggette offer...offering him the mid-level exemption ($5.8 million) is nowhere near what he is worth and there is no way he signs for that. But to compare that to the GS offer to Brand? GS offer is a serious offer, whether it gets it done or not. Anytime you offer someone close to $100 million you have to be taken seriously.

The Warriors can offer Brand $20 million more the Clippers, this is different from Arenas, which they had to offer less and really had no chance at. Of course the Clippers already had a verbal agreement with Brand, otherwise there's no way they sign Baron and risk losing Brand.

Agreed but I don't think they can go 6 yrs, like Wayne pointed out.

Do I think he signs with GS...no. But that is still a serious offer and certainly worth the time trying. Stranger things have happened.

The Clippers lured away the Warriors best player.

Now Golden State is hoping to return the favor.

Flush with cap space after Davis' sudden exit, the Warriors have offered free agent Elton Brand a five-year deal worth between $85 and $90 million, according to league source.

Brand, like Davis, opted out of the final year of his contract just before Monday's deadline, giving up a guaranteed $16.4 million for next season. At the time, Brand's agent, David Falk, told reporters that the move was designed to create some cap flexibility for the Clippers to add another top-line player.

The Clippers did just that by agreeing to terms with Davis on a five-year contract worth about $65 million Tuesday, though the deal cannot be finalized until July 9.

However, that means the Clippers may be only able to offer Brand a five-year deal worth about $70 million due to salary cap restrictions -- or about $20 million less than the Warriors.
Brand, who had been close to re-signing with the Clippers, is expected to make a decision today.

5 years $70 mil or 5 years $90 mil to play in with the Warriors or the Clippers, it's shady I tell you

Do you guys really think Davis went to L.A. without talking to Brand? Stop drinking the Kool-Aid, Brand (Like Davis) is involved with the movie business and with BD in town, he isn't leaving. G.S. knows that too. Would they love him to accept it? No doubt, but they are not stupid either and they saw what was going in with L.A.

Just like Cleveland sees what is going on in NJ.

It's obvious that was the case, I never said it wasn't. Boozer screwed the Cavs however, so it's possible Brand could do the same thing. Either way, the Warriors made the right choice letting Baron sign that big contract, the Clippers won't win shit.

They were talking about G.S. maybe offering Maggette a contract. Don't they already have him in Stephen Jackson? I think they need a impact PG now. Who runs point now? Ellis??

Who moves to SG? You think Ellis is good enough for postseason play? I don't know how/where G.S. is going to generate enough points right now. They are really caught with their pants down (IMO) and they need to do something BIG to lessen the sting for Warrior fans!
