Theres no way I can do it risking $500 to win $25. $100 would have been a bad payout to risk $500 but theres no way I will do it to only win $25.Thanks for the advice and bringing ne back to my senses.I was just thinking $100 if he finishes in the top 3 which I'm very confident that he will but not for $25

Too many horses get injured in a race and pull up, dont do it.

That would be very insane and will not happen.Guess I was thinking 2.40 but at 2.10 would have been stupid.I will spend it more wisely. That why I posted to see how stupid it would be and never thought about only winning $25 Thats why this place is the best

It's done fairly often. Mostly when there's 5 or 6 horses in the race. Then the likes of Big Brown only have to beat 2 or 3 horses. They're called bridge jumpers. They create a minus pool meaning the lowest payoff by law is 2.10 but the payoff is actually higher than the odds.

I don't recall the race. About 10-20 years ago someone bet 200k to win 10k.

If the field remains at 12 then the show payoff might be 2.20.

If you ever want to do this type of wager you need to do it at the track or at a simulcast location. You might be able to do it online. Watch how much money is bet to show on each horse. Watch the amount bet on Big Brown in ratio to the total show pool it might be a decent return.

It's a catch-22. The more horses in the field the higher the chance for a bigger show payoff but the horse has to beat more horses.

FRANK IS sooooo right-every now and then some nut will bet like 20 dimes on a horse to show,if the horse does not hit the board, very freaky things can happen like 2 to 1 chalks paying 8.00 in the show hole !!

In my own, Big Brown will pay 2.10 to show; 2.20 at most.

This is a terrible bet. As I stated in another thread, bridge jumping, the term for betting a fortune to show, is insane. Trust me on this---there are no locks in racing and all sorts of stuff happens. If you really like Big Brown you should try playing a cold exacta and two or three trifecta combinations.

I made a post in another thread ( Big Brown will win the Preakness, not the Belmont...post #45 if interested) detailing a bridge-jumping race I won on in 2000.

Too detailed to retype it, but the main point is the three show payouts were all over $48.00 each. There were 7 or 8 horses in the field.
You can't always get what you want, but if you try some time, you might find, you get what you need.

in horse racin this bet is called a "bridge jumper"...no lie big bettors will bet $20,000 on a huge fav to show and get the 5% return but it has this nickname for a reason cuz if that horse doesnt show up its easier to take the bridge jump then explain to your wife why u lost 20 large at the track ...i dont like the bet no sure thing especially w. an animal but hope ya right
edification will take place pull up the reins and get outta the race.
