A two guard shooting 37.7% from the field this year, 34.1% from 3, and going to the line under 3 times a game does not help anything offensively. It even causes other shooters to force shots b/c they don't want him to clank another one up there I'd assume.

im huge cavs fan heres how i see it....team is good cuz of lebron one of best in league all these guys are role players anyways...far as what cavs gave up hughes and gooden had good game bout 1 out of 5 apiece on offense neither even play the 4th qtr really, look at cavs run last yr no hughes gooden cheers while Varejao plays end game....so far as what they got big ben could provide toughness inside and wally better shooter by far than hughes spreads floor more defense alot worse but sub out wally for defense late...west prob most upside more of true point guard than out of position hughes, gibson will get run too when back from injury....i think they got better have to see how it works out but wallace is key cuz any those guys playin w. bron doesnt matter no one better than next but wallace isnt their to score so if he can bring that energy out bein on new team w. a good chance as any maybe 3 teams in east cavs be a force
edification will take place pull up the reins and get outta the race.

They never wanted Hughes to begin with...if you all remember they made the huge offer to Redd and Milwaukee ended up matching so Gilbert the new owner panicked and went and loaded up a bunch of cash for Hughes.

Personally I think this trade helps all teams involved somewhat....Ben Wallace was never a great man defender but he still to this day be the best help defender in the league...once Wallace left Detroit the Pistons became a mess on defense the last two seasons...if anything Wallace will greatly improve the Cleveland defense just for the sake of being a presence down low....but he might be the biggest offensive liability in the league.

Sonics get the cap room they need to add a stud in FA with that young nucleus....Bulls dump Wallace and his huge deal and the Cavs I guess get stronger on defense.

Cavs in my opinion need a an athletic big man who can score the ball like a Dwight Howard or Amare Stoudamire....I dont think they will ever need a PG because Lebron needs the ball in his hands at all times.

Lets be honest Cavs beyond Lebron stink and until they get him some interior help wont be going anywhere.

On a side note the Pistons seem to be getting younger on the fly and damn they have been good now for quite some time and dont look to be slowing down anytime soon

Key to a good team is a great GM and key to a championship team is a great coach...come to think of it I wonder if the Pistons can win a title with Flip....I think he is average at best

Fuck I got off topic here, sorry

            PEACE

I'm a cavs&sixers fan and in a way I like this trade, but in a way I don't because neither of my teams looked at the most underated player that was a free agent. M&M yep Mike Miller he can play awesome d he took a horrible team to the playoffs 3 times might I add and he is probably the only one scoring on the Grizzlies besides Hakim Warrick, Mike Miller is sick he really never shined, but he has a money 3 and awesome D and he can drive pretty well to I think either team could of used him, but as you see he's taking up space in memphis oh well maybe they'll do something with him in the offseason. As for wallace in Clevland I like it because we get more big men, but then agian we didn't need this Drew Gooden was perfect for this position and could score more then Big Ben then agian Defense does win games so it does help out on some priomeiters. As for wally he is another underated player always shinned under garnett then injured for a while this is his last 15 mins of fame for him to show the world yea I still got that 3, yea i'm a sweet 6th man ,and to show that he does have some skill, last joe smith is horrible he should be on pros vs joes I'd love to see him get schooled, but some random joe lol and his names joe even better. Joe Smith everyone expected so much from him and what he give us whats that word oh yeah nothing! As for Chi-town they made out on this trade they got Gooden whos younger so he has more years to gain experience, but then agian why do they need 3 point guards it's pointless all offense no d that's the badside, there gonna wind up being like NY, a bunch of point guards score about 80 to a 100 a game and still loose. As for seattle Duhon's good griffin's okay, but seattle really needs robert swift of the injury list I don't see anything happening with seattle if robert swift doesn't come back asap.

I can see Smith on pros vs. joes they had oakley on there...anyway Joe Smith can still play hes averaging 11 points 5 rebounds in 22 minutes, playing solid minutes offensively and defensively off the bench...in his 7 starts hes averaging 18 and 7

This trade does help Cleveland as they finish the season fighting for playoff positioning. I like they're 4 man frontcourt rotation of big Z big Ben varajeo and joe smith...Also daniel gibson, he put on a show at last weeekend's rookie/sophmore game going 11/20 at the 3 point line and not shooting a single 2!!!well gibson is out 6 weeks so now szczerbiak slides in nicely while gibson is out.
I think this trade actually benefited each team but in an ugly way. especially with some of these big undeserved contracts going to guys like gooden , wallace , larry hughes, wally world szczerbiak and even joe smith at 5 mil
my opinion is this trade does nothing for chicagos playoff hopes, helps free-up a lot of cap room for seattle, and will help cleveland finish 3-6 in the playoff seeding.

                post all-star break/trade deadline predictions

                West

                1. Lakers (as long as kobe doesn't need pinky surgery) this team is DEEP...when ariza and bynum come back LOOK OUT! and keep an eye on their defensive stats this team is creating turnovers and just playing good team basketball

                2. Hornets - have stayed healthy and played great on the road

                3. Suns - Shaq will be a positive for the Suns team, as long as its not against the Lakers

                4. Utah - 23-3 at home and rolling right along since acquiring sharp shooter kyle korver

                5. Dallas - Kidd will provide the fuel to give these guys hope going into the playoffs...only to get bounced in the 1st or 2nd round

                6. San Antonio - They just need to stay healthy and hungry or they'll end up as low as a 7 or 8 seed. This is a verteran team that knows they just need to get to the playoffs to have a shot at a repeat. The addition of Kurt was a huge under the radar upgrade to their frontcourt

                7. Houston - This team is good enough to win an nba title. Do I think they will? probably not but it just shows how good the West is, they can play against any team in the NBA on any given night. They're an impossible high/low matchup with yao and t-mac...scola, battier, rafer, bobby jackson, gerald green are nice complimentary players

                8. Denver - Giving up too many points and under .500 at home, but its not easy keeping up with carmelo, AI, k-mart, camby, a.carter, jr smith, and kleiza has stepped up in a big way.

East- should say fuck it type boston and go to sleep but whatever
                1. Boston - "The Boston 3 Party" no doubt they are the team to beat from now until they are beaten in the East and the entire NBA. As a Laker fan I feel great about my team against any team not led by KG Kevin Garnett ! ...if boston somehow claims sam cassell look out!!

                2. Detroit - Year in and year out these guys continue to do what they do. BA BA BA BA BILLUPS is a bad matchup for every team, rip hamilton does it every night, tayshaun prince, sheed, jason maxiell, they have a nice bench...they play the game right but have laid a big goose egg since the all-star game

                3. Orlando - superman d how top 5 players all time...well not yet

                4. Cleveland - The big ben trade will be enough to get them this far

                5. Toronto - This team will be a tough out in the playoffs if they have everyone healthy, t.j. ford adds another dimension to this lineup at point...and calderon has been a HUGE upside at that same position

6 - 10 who cares these guys aren't doin shit this year (look out for atlanta to cover some spreads if healthy . ) ( . I like the way philly plays, they rebound well with evans and dalembert and they spread the wealth offensively.

#6 wash wiz, 7 philly 8 atlanta 9 new jersey (will be better with healthy harris, diop and next years 1st rounder)
10 chicago what happened? I like nocioni deng and gordon as role players, keep an eye on joakim noah, they could make a run if he steps in and plays like a young ben wallace with the energy, rebounding and defensive play.

Yeah I would hate to see the warriors miss the playoffs but GOlden State at 33 - 21 would miss the playoffs if season ended today !! good for a .611 winning % the 8 seed for the east has a .411 winning % (atlanta)

alright im out LA LAKER VERSUS BOSTON CELTIC NBA FINALS!!!!

I am too a life long cavs fan and here is my take on the trade. I think the trade was more to show that the Cavs are willing to make some big moves to get Lebron to stay. Will this make them better. I dont think so. Gooden averages 13 ptsand 8.5 rebs. While Big Ben averages 5 pts and 8.5 rebs. Ben does give you an advantage on the defensive end, but he has negative offense. Also with the loss of Hughes they are giving up more points. Sure, he is inconsistent, but he can also put up 25 pts. here and there.

I will only add my thoughts on Larry Hughes from his Wizards days. That is when I saw him play most. The most overated statistic is steals, he was leading the league one year and made an all-star team because of it. Trouble is he gambled all the time to get the steal, very often letting his man go leaving them open for easy looks if he did no make the steal. This was the Wiz game plan, gamble and give up lay ups.

Not knock Larry here, just saying the stat "Steals" is overated.

Solid defenders, do not get a lot of steals, they stay in front of their man, deny the ball and rotate when they have too. Hughes is not that type of defender.
