They made the right move by trading him before spring training and out of the AL. I think his value only goes down had they waited. It will be interesting to see if his subpar year (for johan standards) carries over to 2008 if he bounces back to cy young form...my prediction; 15-18 wins 3.2-3.8 era 190-200 k's, mets finish 2nd to philly. As for the prospects they received....only time will tell how good of a trade this was for each club.

2nd to philly? They really need another starter. Hamels will not be able to carry them alone this year. The Braves and Mets have upgraded their starters.

          4. Maine
          5. Pelfrey

This team is loaded provided everyone stays healthy, with this offense, I see a 100 win year very likely.
think Oliver Perez will be in there somewhere.

El Duque too. wayne is just bitter that his team didn't get Johan. If Pedro is healthy then the rotation is one of the best in ALL of MLB. Anyone that follows baseball knows how solid the Mets rotation was last year.

Mets were just a bit above middle of the road with their starting rotation 11th with a 4.40 ERA

They had ONE good year frank. They are by no means established as a guaranteed top line starter!

frank, I do like Maine and Perez. They both went (15-10) and that was good last year but overall they have done absolutely nothing in their careers yet to establish them as anything special. Let's see them do it 2 years in a row before getting excited over either one.

According to the Bergen Record's Bob Klapisch, the Twins came back to the Yankees with an offer of Johan Santana for Melky Cabrera, Ian Kennedy and a prospect on Monday, only to be turned down.
If true, the Yankees declined the chance to acquire Santana without giving up Phil Hughes or Joba Chamberlain. Klapisch also believes the Red Sox had both Jacoby Ellsbury and Jon Lester off the table by the time the Twins chose to accept the Mets' offer.

I can't believe the Yankees turned that down. I also heard the same thing about Boston.

I don't get it. Why are people so down on Johan? He's the best pitcher in baseball and he's 29. How can the Yankees not make that move?

I wanted him too. I was willing to part with 6 guys and keep Ellsbury!
