I argued about this yesterday and I agree with watchtower on this.....get Johan Santana at any cost...he is the best pitcher in the game in the prime of his career.

I would trade Ellsbury and the rest of that deal in a flash and get Johan signed yesterday for 25 million a year.......I mean shit Barry Zito got 18 million LMAO.

I wonder if the Red Sox fans wuld be singing the same tune if Cleveland would have finished them off, I highly doubt it.

When you win 2 WS without him in 4 years, it is easy to say you don't want to mortgage the future for one guy. What is so hard to understand about that?

Pro active is Trading for Beckett and Lowell after winning the 1st WS and Re-signing Lowell and moving Ellsbury to CF after the 2nd WS. They have been pro active. I'm not sure the Yankees can say the same with their reactive tendancies like Clemens.

Hughes,Melky,Cano,Chamberlin,Kennedy just to name a few are our up and coming young guns and im tired of them trading away all of them like they have in the past.. Fuck santana let Minny keep his ass..
T, you're crazy...if you are lucky, Hughes will be 75% of what Santana is. There have been tons of 'can't miss' pitching prospects that, in fact, miss...Santana is a sure bet. IMO, best pitcher in baseball the last 4 yrs. If I were I Yankee fan, I'd pack Hughes bags.

Mets fans remember the can't miss three...Generation K...Pulsipher, Wilson and Izzy...how did they do????

Paying Santana is not mortgaging the future for the Sox....lets get real....they have the $$....if they dont make this deal its because they feel they are giving up too much. And honestly if I was any team and the Twins said they will agree on a deal its probably bad news because for the most part that team can scout young talent

I've said it a dozen times now. I would love Santana ... as long as Ellsbury isn't included. If they want to give Buchholz and Lester ... Fine. No problem. Just don't give up Jacoby and i'll be a happy camper!

Paying him isn't a problem. Where did i say that???

Mortgaging the future is giving up all the young guys you have built up in the farm system. There is alot of young, cheap talent there and the future looks bright. I'm not happy about giving that up for any pitcher!

I agree. Maybe it is because i know what is there if Ellsbury leaves and that is Coco Crisp. Ellsbury was GREAT in September and more impressively, OCTOBER. Put him in CF and have him lead off for the next 10 years with Dustin in the 2 hole and i'll be very happy.

but its ok to put the morgage on an unproven guy like dice k? I understand the whole marketing in Japan argument, so don't go there. Johan has been the best pitcher in baseball for 3+ years. Anyone should do what it takes to sign him. By the way, I hate Curt Schilling more than an person in all of sports. Just wanted to throw that out there.

That makes absolutely NO SENSE. You know the marketing thing so don't go there? Huh?? If you are going to go there and say they are mortgaging the future on DICE-K when they will get most of that money back, i have to go there because your mortgaging comment with Dice-K makes ZERO sense when they are not mortgaging ANYTHING with him. In fact, they are making money ON HIM.

Johan wasn't even in the Top 3 of just one league's Cy Young voting this year so maybe you need to stop going "There" too.
