    Detroit at Columbus
The Red Wings hope to avoid their fourth straight defeat in regulation as they travel to Columbus today. The Blue Jackets are in a slump of their own as they've dropped five of their last six. They haven't had much luck against Detroit, either, dropping eight of their last 10 at home to the Red Wings. Columbus goalie Pascal Leclaire is 0-3-0 with a 4.16 GAA in his last three starts against the Wings. Detroit looks like a good pick (-140) to bounce back with a win in this one according to Dunkel, which has the Red Wings favored by 1 1/2. Dunkel Pick: Detroit (-140). Here are all of today's games.

        Sunday's College Basketball

        Top Five Games

Clemson had great win at Mississippi State during week, now face young Old Dominion squad that crushed Toledo 66-35 last game, leading 29-11 at half. Clemson don't play lot of real tough opponents before ACC starts, so the Starkville win, plus this game, are important for them to win.

Providence beat Temple, Arkansas to get to final of Puerto Rico tourney; Miami beat Marist, VCU (almost blowing 36-21 lead at half). These two used to be Big East rivals, but now Miami is in ACC- they're picked 9th in ACC, with three starters back from a 12-20 team. Friars are picked pretty high, sixth in Big East.

Florida State beat UAB 78-70, lost 69-66 to Cleveland State, in OT yesterday. South Florida lost 74-67 to Rhode Island, then waxed FAU 100-69 yesterday- this is a ACC-Big East matchup. Seminoles are picked 8th in ACC, despite having four starters back from 22-win team. USF is picked last in 16-team Big East.

Colorado State has only two guys who played D-I LY, still got to final here, beating Oregon State, Tennessee State. Portland State upset Akron yesterday to get here; Vikings have three starters back from 19-win team that lost by 3 in Big Sky finals last March. Been good weekend for both these teams so far.

Winthrop beat Ill-Chicago 72-58 in first round, leading 40-24 at half; they don't get many shots at the big boys, but they get Georgia Tech here, after Jackets beat Charlotte 82-77 Friday in first round. Tech already got upset by NC-Greensboro, as they search for PG to replace Crittendon, who bolted early for NBA.

        Rest of the Card

-- NC-Wilmington beat revuilding Charleston team in OT in its opener; Seahawks were 7-22 LY, are #7 pick in CAA. Illinois St has four starters back from LY; they whacked SE Missouri in last game, 90-71, are expected to be good this year.
-- Northern Iowa went 3-0 in their tourney, beating UMass in a good final; Panthers have three starters back from 18-13 team, are #4 pick in MVC. Wisc-Milwaukee won in OT at Ball State; they're picked for third in Horizon League.
-- NC State assistant Monte Towe was head coach at UNO, but came back to alma mater to be an assistant, after Katrina. State won opener 66-47 Thursday. UNO has solid senior nucleus, is picked to finish on top of its division in Sun Belt.

-- Charleston was down 25 at half Friday, rallied vs Temple and won game on buzzer beater; Cougars are rebuilding, losing two of first three games. Houston beat Marist 64-58 after losing to VCU in good first round game, 73-72.
-- Arkansas is tall, really athletic, not real skilled; they lost 67-51 to Providence in semifinals, after beating Charleston in the 1st round. VCU lost to Miami 69-63 (down 36-21 at half) after 73-72 win in first round. This is pretty good consolation game.

-- Rhode Island beat South Florida 74-67 Friday, rallying from a 34-27 halftime deficit; Rams whacked Stetson 80-65 yesterday. UAB lost 78-70 to Florida State Friday, then got upset 59-57 in last game by Georgia Southern. Slow start for UAB's transfers.
-- Georgia Southern posted two upsets this weekend, beating Cleveland State 72-70 Friday, UAB 59-57 yesterday. Stetson is host team; they lost 68-62 to FAU Friday, then 80-65 to URI on Saturday. Eagles could be sleeper team in Southern Conference

-- Oregon State has had awful trip to Alaska, losing to Colorado State in first round, then getting beat by host Fairbanks 62-60 in last game- they're waiting for Kansas transfer Giles, who gets eligible in their eighth game.
-- Akron got upset 66-63 by Portland State last night, after win (64-60) vs SC-Upstate in first round. Tennessee State lost 87-68 to Colorado State yesterday, after an easy forst round win. The Zips, by the way, are coached by Lebron James' HS coach.

-- St Bonaventure beat LMU 61-50 Friday, got housed by New Mexico last night, but if they beat Presbyterian, they go home 2-1, and thats good for Bonnies' squad that is rebuilding.
-- Alford has New Mexico rolling early on, although their sked hasn't been so tough- they pounded Bonnies last night- they won first game by 31 also. LMU lost by 11 to Bonnies, won last night 83-76 vs Presbyterian- tough spot for them here.

-- Baylor is young but experienced team that has only a single senior; they had great win (64-55) over Wichita St. Notre Dame killed Monmouth in first game (Monmouth beat Wichita on Sat) so this is pretty good second round game.
-- North Carolina can name its score against rebuilding Iona in hideous ESPN Game (Iona went 2-28 last year, fired the coach).
-- Eastern Washington got whacked by Wazzu, New Mexico; in last game, was down 11 at half to Riverside, rallied to win, so at least they won't start 0-4. Washington is heading to NYC this week for semifinals of tourney they already won two games in.
