  • According to a Celtics official, Kevin Garnett has been traded to Boston.
Among the players thought to be headed to Minnesota are forward Al Jefferson, guard Sebastian Telfair, swingman Gerald Green and center Theo Ratliff, said the official. He also said the Timberwolves would get at least one draft choice. It had been reported throughout the day that Ryan Gomes and two No. 1 draft choices would be included in the deal, but as of now, it sounds like Gomes is staying with the Celtics. Details of the trade are still being worked out and it is not official, but the source said that none of those issues should keep the Celtics from acquiring Garnett, who is currently on a cruise vacation. However, there could be a change in the players going to Minnesota. There was a chance that a conference call announcing the trade would be held Monday, the official said.

    • If we keep Gomes, that is still big for us. He also had some solid numbers at Forward for us late last year. He will be another good guy off that bench!

      • I just heard 5 players and 2 #1 draft picks for Garnett. Damn thats alot. Reminds me of the Cowboys trading Herschel Walker.

Gave this some thought while on the treadmill trying to lose half a ton and I do think this is an excellent trade for both sides. I think what I didn't take into account was the East is so horrendous that anyone can take it and no one has a better chance than the C's right now and while the Cavs didn't prove it, if you get in a 7 game series, anything can happen. I thought this was a good trade for the C's from the outset, but I like i tmore now....not that it matters any.

As for rebuilding in the NBA being a joke, I disagree. You need patience and can't get caught up in fan emotion. I look at the Bulls and the Magic and they are going aout it the right way and could be dominate for years. It takes some luck as well. But I will always say, the biggest mistake the Knicks made was trading Ewing and not bein patient and letting his contract expire and getting all the cap space. Layden caved to public pressure to deliver a winner asap, which was impossible to do and they should have sat tight for a year or two.

              • Before any C fans go rub one out...read this...perhaps this is why it is not 'official?'...it is from ESPN about his trade kicker, although they did say the C's coul offer a max contract extension of 4 yrs, $116 million!

Garnett's salary for next season is $22 million and the trade kicker is $6.75 million, meaning that Boston would have to accommodate $28.75 million in salary and send out at least $22.92 million in a trade if Garnett is to receive the full bonus.

But the latest incarnation of the trade is believed to include the following five Celtics for a total of $18,921,547: Al Jefferson, Theo Ratliff, Gerald Green, Sebastian Telfair and Ryan Gomes. If no other Celtics are added to the deal, Boston could only take back $23,751,934 in salary, meaning Garnett would have to consent to waiving nearly $5 million of his trade kicker … $4,998,066 to be exact.

Garnett's take-home trade bonus would thus be reduced to $1,751,934. But the assumption is that he would more than make that back in the long-term extension he's expected to receive from the Celtics as part of this extravaganza.
