                Six-Pack for Sunday

--. Trent Green wasn't the same player when he came back from his head injury. I'd use the word skittish.

-- A year later, still trying to figure out what Chiefs saw in Herman Edwards as a head coach that those of us in New York haven't seen.

-- Colts go back to Baltimore for a playoff game; good stuff.

-- Fitting that erratic Cowboys saw season end of string of ridiculous miscues. Exciting game, poorly played.

-- Instant replay showed its value in this game.

-- Discussion came up among friends as to who is the better coach, Parcells or Holmgren? Interesting debate.

Sunday's List of 13: Quick-hitting thoughts on a sunny day

                  13) Dallas-Seattle game was sure interesting, but very sloppy, typical of how lousy the NFC has been all season.

                  12) Suns' Pat Burke is NBA's only Irish-born player.

                  11) UAlbany hoop coach Will Brown got suspended for one game for what he said about his schedule on his website-- he criticized America East for having toplay four games in seven nights. Albany lost yesterday, with Brown sitting out.

                  10) Since they starting keeping track in '73, Moses Malone is the NBA's all-time leader in offensive rebounding (5.1/game).

                  9) Canisius has hoop player named Corey Herring who, in his four years of college ball, played for different coach in all four years, two at Baylor, two at Canisius.

                  8) JB Holmes had drives of 391,399 yards out in Hawai'i as he shot 68 on Friday. Must be fun to hit a ball that far.

                  7) Speaking of long drives, saw on poker telecast that famous gambler Amarillo Slim once won a large wager, when he said he could hit a golf ball a mile. He went to a frozen lake, teed it up and watched as the ball rolled for mile and a half.

                  6) If you keep track of such things, Joe Durant got 2007's first birdie; Will McKenzie got the first eagle.

                  5) Amazingly, Larry Brown got another job, with the 76ers. Wonder how much they'll wind up paying him to go away.

                  4) Knicks are only $44.6M over the salary cap; Dallas is next highest, $10.3M over, but they have good team, at least.

                  3) Meanwhile, Isiah Thomas and Matt Millen still have jobs.

                  2) Hey, Toronto Raptors are tied for first in their division; fact that they're 14-19 doesn't damper that, does it? Guess it does.

                  1) If the Mets sign Jeff Weaver, I'll chuckle, no, I'll laugh very loudly. Pass on Barry Zito, and pay Weaver big bucks? HA!!

Saturday's List of 13: Random thoughts on a Friday night
                  13) Tomorrow is January 6, and it is supposed to be over 60 here in America's second-favorite city. Lets just say we don't see 60 degrees often at this time of year. Its a little eerie.

                  12) You get Mike Breen and Hubie Brown calling an NBA tilt on a Friday night, and its a solid two hours of television.

                  11) Has a defending NBA champ ever looked worse than the Heat does right now?

                  10) If I was a Cleveland Indian fan, it wouldn't excite me a lot that our closer in '07 will be Keith Foulke.

                  9) Why do athletic directors hire search firms to help them in hiring a new coach? Isn't that their job? Or is it because the search firm helped the AD get the job he currently has, so the AD is returning the financial favor?

                  8) Southern Mississippi has a punter named Barefoot.

                  7) Marist has a hooper named Wilfred "Spongy" Benjamin, UNLV has a point guard named Wink Adams.

                  6) Chiefs have one of NFL's best running backs, playing at a Colts team that struggles against the run. The coin flip could actually be important in this game, since Indy will definitely want the ball first, to get that extra possession.

                  5) Oregon State hooper Sasa Cuic is fluent in five languages: English-Croatian-Serbian-Italian-Dutch.

                  4) Raiders will have their fifth coach in last seven seasons in 2007; in other words, it wasn't Art Shell's fault!!!!! Raiders are challenging the Lions as worst-run franchise in the NFL.

                  3) Speaking of which, Rod Marinelli fired Donnie Henderson, his defensive coordinator, and hired Joe Barry, who happens to be married to Marinelli's daughter. Now, Barry might be the best defensive coordinator since Buddy Ryan, but when you are an inept organization like Detroit, you lack credibility.

                  2) After he sits out next season, Bill Cowher will be perfectly positioned to be coach of the Dallas Cowboys in 2008.

                  1) Cowher is the 7th NFL coach to spend 15+ seasons in his first head coaching job; the other six coaches are all Hall of Famers. Cowher will be, too.
