New York Jets at New England Patriots (CBS | 1 PM ET)

• Jets head coach Eric Mangini was the Patriots defensive coordinator last season, and New England head coach Bill Belichick wasn't happy that he left, so these guys are in a bit of a grudge, adding to the excitement of this contest. Belichick was curt, barely shaking Mangini's hand after each meeting this season. EDGE: JETS

• The Jets come into this matchup with the 9th worst total defense in the NFL and 20th in total offense. EDGE: PATRIOTS

• New England’s offense (11th overall) is balanced with QB Tom Brady and their defense is No. 6 in the NFL, forcing 4 Bears turnovers, 5 more against Detroit and 4 picks of Houston. The Patriots allow a meager 14.8 points per game, good for second best in the NFL. EDGE: PATRIOTS

• Belichick likes to take one thing away that the opponent does, and in this case the Jets will have trouble running the football, so the pressure will fall on Jets QB Chad Pennington, the NFL Comeback Player of the Year. EDGE: PATRIOTS

GMAC Bowl, Mobile

Favorites covered last four GMAC bowls; totals in this game have been 125-53-77-87-58. Ohio U wants to run the ball, but they've had QB injury issues, and Southern Miss has tradition of strong defense. Eagles are 5-3-1 vs. spread in last nine bowl games, while Bobcats are playing in first bowl in 38 years.

USM tried to run ball in second half of season, going behind three senior starters on OL; they used two QBs in four of last five games. Ohio used three QB's down stretch, due to injury, but the starter should be back for this. Former Nebraska HC Solich is good matchup with longtime USM mentor Bower. Solich was 2-3 in bowls at Nebraska.

Both these teams lost their conference championship game, after coming into game hot; both are excited to be on ESPN and playing the might before the national title game. This should be a spirited game; neither side passes well, but both want to show well from a recruiting standpoint, so if the weather's OK, I'd take a shot with the over in historically high-scoring GMAC Bowl.

BCS Championship Game, Phoenix

Anything can happen in one game, but Ohio State was clearly best team in country this season, so much so that the race for #2 actually became intriguing. Despite replacing nine seniors on defense from LY's team, Buckeyes beat Texas in Austin, beat Michigan, and won only two games all season by less than 17 pts (they were 9-3 vs. spread, despite being double digit favorite in nine games). If I had vote for #1 in final poll, I might vote for Ohio State even if they lose this game.

Jim Tressel has won five national titles, four at the I-AA level, so you know he's terrific in spots like this; not only does he have the best team, he has a senior QB Urban Meyer won and covered his bowl game the last three years; they have senior QB in Leak, and have odd system of putting in frosh QB Tebow, a better runner, when they have short yardage situations. Anyone who wins the SEC is a worthy opponent, but Florida eeked out wins to get to this point. Ohio State crushed people (except for Michigan, Illinois) to get here.

Ohio State is playing an Arizona bowl for fourth time in last five years, having won Fiesta Bowl in '02.'03 and '05; under Tressel, they've become dominant big game team. With QB Smith trying to ride off in blaze of glory, its hard to envision Ohio St losing this game.

I like the Buckeyes to win the national title and also cover.

One thing has certainly changed in Memphis under new coach Tony Barone -- the Grizzlies are scoring points in bunches. Since Barone took over for Mike Fratello, he has replaced Fratello's slow-down style with a fast-paced attack that has Memphis averaging 120.5 points per game in the last four contests. The increased production has also resulted in some wins as the Grizz have gone 2-2 with victories over Toronto (110-104) and Golden State (144-135). Today Memphis will host a San Antonio team that is in the middle of its longest losing streak in almost two years as they dropped to 0-3 in 2007 with a 90-85 loss at home to Dallas on Friday. The Spurs are shooting just 41.7 percent during the skid compared to 47.6 for the season. With the Memphis offense clicking right now, the Grizzlies look like a good pick to take advantage of the Vegas line (+8) at home according to Dunkel, which has San Antonio favored by 6 1/2.
