I am not hiding from anyone.
The only thing that gives me some satisfaction is that some of those ticket scalpers charging hundreds or thousands of dollars will probably be lucky to get face value for some of them in Sept. once it is apparent Sox are done and football and Pats begin.

biz is good....i have not been betting much to be honest......between the move and lots of other stuff i am kind of holding out until football......i think all of the banter is in good fun.....like always it is hard to be a sox fan.....If it was not a birthright i would not wish this on anyone (sorry cubs fans i know you feel the pain a little worse).....Many of the sox teams i did not like....I rooted for the uniform.....It is just downright frustrating to take a 10-7 lead and give it away and the players seem so resigned to their fate...heads down etc......If a team loses going down swinging no problem....but to see lester, beckett, hansen and delcarmen hang their heads pisses me off....

If/when Varitek returns, it will take something like a 16 of 20 streak to give them a chance to get back in this thing, and personally i don't see it happening.

Originally posted by savage1The fact is that some of these guys are just overmatched and have been overworked of late, but still, as you say they show no confidence; it appears Sox just expect to lose, and of course that can and is becoming a self-fulfilling prophecy.

much of what you say is true.....but they are literally getting lit up daily.....i know varitek is important, but for goodness sake there are other catchers who can call a game.....I do not think they are overmatched in terms of bats...they just have continued to come up small.....I guess the how and why's are not important...the frustration is still there!!

Did you see on ESPN tonight where they pointed out that Javy Lopez spent an undue amount of time fixing his sunglasses at a critcial point in the game when Becket was still pitching?;they pointed out that that in itself was bad for Becket's concentration.
I don't think the pitchers have confidence with Lopez calling the games and to a lesser extent Mirabelli on a day in and day out basis;Schilling is probably the exception.
I think while calling a game is important(and none of Varitek's replacements are as good as Varitek), the confidence factor Varitek brings is equally important,;he also inspires the team as a whole to play better(he is the captain) with his hard work and dedication.
Sure Lopez and Mirabelli try hard, but to me anyways, that certain intangible that Varitek brings is missing, and personally I feel with him catching, some of those huge innings by the Yankees might not have occurred;I think in short that Varitek is a steadying influence.
I don't think Francona has been much help during Varitek's absence and if anything, it shows me that Varitek is a lot more valuable to the team than is Francona.
Sure Sox are professionals and should be able to rise above the loss of a player, but this isn't a perfect world.Last edited by savage1; 08-20-2006, 02:00 AM.
