Not so fast my friend............Kapt Corso........

heres the preseason rankings of Oklahoma scheduled teams........you tell we which two are gonna beat em.......remember we have no spread here........Ok has an awesome defense, and will have a balanced offense........Last year 177 passing ypg, 177 running ypg......round figures........Thats not gonna change....Defensive co-ordinator has a season under his belt----he'll make em even stronger.....great Linebacking core, and some tough defensive backs...........

heres the teams with their approximate preseason ratings----numerous polls........

    Oklahoma first off 1-4 rating.....

    opponents
    UAB 90-95
    Wash 80-85
    Oreg 20-25...no defense
    Mid Tenn 110-115
    Texas 6-10...they lost a great QB---not just a starter.....
    Iowa St 45-50
    Colo 50-55
    Mzo 50-55
    Tx AM 30-35
Tx Tech 20-25 no defense at all.....great offense
Baylor 70-75....Kapts $ maker this year with spread
Ok St 80-85 one big joke....team and staff

Now which 2 did you say........Oregon, Texas Tech, and possibly Texas.....

Texas Tech won't do it, Oregon should be a good game, this is the one I fear is possible, and they'll better Texas.........

I say they go 11-1 or 12-0 with out Bomar.........kapt

kaptain i had trouble reading past the words "Balanced offense". How can you say that when they just lost there leader on the field. The QB position is the single most powerful position in sports (imo). College kids thrown in the mix 3-4 weeks before the season starts spells absolutely NOTHING but trouble.

The defense may be great but how tired and frustrated do they become if the offense can't keep them off the field? This hurts Peterson BIG TIME too. Until they prove they can throw the ball ... They are DONE!

This is true, but you know who's a better leader?? Coach Stoops! I know he doesn't suit up and play, but he will get them MOTIVATED by all of this and Halzle could possibly turn some heads with his arm with all the 8 man fronts he will see early in the year. His decision making won't have to be brilliant to beat man to man coverage with the recieving corps he will have to throw to.

They have a legit QB in Thompson, who was moved to receiver to make room for Bomar...+ he's a Sr....he has good leadership abilities.........So QB Halzle will be groomed early to fit in by Oreg Game time, if needed..........kapt

Peterson is not the whole team----Thompson and Halzle can throw........any body stacking 8 on the line againstt Okla, will get butchered.........

These 2 QB's can throw.....3 great receivers, plus Peterson coming out of the backfield........they are gonna surprise a lot of people.........

Balanced last year 177 ypg passing and running----thats not gonna change...........kapt

kb, Stoops is a DEFENSIVE coach and when Jason left, he was just as confused as the offense was. Did you forget about their struggles?

I never said he was an offensive guru, I said he would motivate his players. He'll let the offensive staff do their thing, as I have understood he's never really been too involved in the offensive things they have going on. He obviously knows and pays attention to it, but he knows he has a good staff capable of coming up with a good gameplan (sometimes ) and lets them do their deal.

like I stated---they were balanced last year....177 ypg running or passing, with an untested Freshman QB who progressively got better......

They Moved Thompson to receiver (SR QB) to make room for Bomar, their man of the future.........It's simple.......a 4 year season QB, can perform as well as an untested freshman.....Thompson was the starter till they decided to give the reins to Bomar........

we could beat this to death, but lets wait till the season is over.........I gave you my opinion, you gave me yours.......
Peterson is a stud----they'll throw enough to keep defenses honest, plenty of em to Peterson (a la M Faulk) style, then let him do the rest.........

Thompson will burn you if you throw 8 men up front.......short passes to some speedy ass receivers........who all have good afc (after the catch) figures..........

I still say they go 11-1, or 12-0.........and don't underestimate backup QB Halzle.........sleeper.......

                Love ya pal----I'm out----kapt

PS----I'm not Bias, I personaly don't like the Sooners, I had 5 Sons went to Ok St.........go figure

                  Kaptain,

With all due respect, Thompson was 11-26 last year with no TD's and one pick! He has done and/or proven nothing at all and if they are depending on him ... They, ARE IN TROUBLE!

T.T. scored 23 against them last year and WON! That was WITH Bomar!

Bomar set 4 Freshman QB records and improved with every game last season!

Halzle had ONE SEASON at Community College. Do you seriously think this kid will be mentally ready for the BIG 12 with 4 weeks to prepare? NO WAY!

I'm not a Sooner hater at all but let's be realistic here, this is a BIG HIT to their Title chances ... Bottom line!

I respect your opinion.........Bomar was a mediocre QB, but steadily improving........

Thompson can do the same, and yes I think a Community College QB like Halzle will step up, learn, he'el have some early games to do it......Weak schedule....3 teams at most to give em hard time.........

My question to you is, If Bomar can jump in, become a leader, steadily improve, then why can't Thompson, Halzle do the same.......

Lots of people wrote off the Sooners last year due to lack of QB....they'll do the same this year.....(Now they will)......

I do agree with you on one thing though..........A good leader, QB, seasoned veteran, is a hard thing to overcome......

But Bomar was just becoming this........like KB said, it's not losing Brady Quinn, it's Bomar............

And the fact Bomar had several freshman passing records, doesn't say much at OK, who for 40 + years did nothing but run (wish bone)........Now if he'd played for BYU, and you could say that, I'd perk up.......

Time will tell.......I hope all the teams they play, stack 8 up front........they might get surprised.........

Love ya Bruuuuuutha-----I'm talked out about this one..........kapt

Thompson was legitimate enough a qb to win the starting position prior to last year. Kevin Wilson is very high on Thompson's abilities as a quarterback. Chuck Long wasn't so sold. And Wilson has a different offensive system. Additionally, Thompson is viewed by the players as a team leader. Of course he hasn't thrown a pass in a year.

The big thing as far as the program is not necessariliy the QB situation. They'll most likely get some sanctions from the NCAA for "lack of institutional control", particularly on the heels of the basketball program's problems.

ESPN was just talking about it and said it should clearly be Thompson. They said Halzle looked AWFUL in spring practices.

They also led off Sportscenter saying "A Big Hit to the Sooners BCS chances" ... and i still agree with that 100%

Can Thompson do it? No doubt, but Bomar was better than he has been given credit for last year. This kid as a freshman did alot of great THINGS. He also led them to only a 7-4 record. That's why people assumed he would mature along with the Sooners record. If Thompson matches what Bomar did, do they still go 7-4 or suddenly somehow jump to 11-1 12-0?

I don't see the latter happening but it is possible.

you brought up a good point----C Long the previous Off Co-ord at Ok is now Coaching at SD St........Long never had confidence in Thompson, but catered to Bomar.......

I have never liked Long as the off co ord because he didn't utilize each QB's talent, rather, he tried to make em like he was....so he leaned to that style QB........

Thompson will suffice......he'el make his mistakes as all do........but under new Off co ord---(Wilson), I think people are gonna be surprised..........

My first 10* game this year is OK - the points against UAB----I don't care how many it is.........Time will tell......Thompson and Halzle will get some playing time (both)..kapt

Also, if Stoops is such a great coach, he must have obviously liked his chances last year with a Freshman QB (Bomar) over the Junior Thompson. Thompson didn't waste any time changing positions either and going to WR. Do you make that committment if you think you could/will be the QB anytime soon? Not usually. I think for those that think Thompson will be better must question why the OU staff didn't agree to begin with! Stoops didn't decide to start Thompson this year either. Is Long still there??? Ummm ... NO!

I don't like Thompson as a qb personally. He might (will) play some early in the year, but I expect the reins to be handed to Halzle early on in the year. I definitely agree with you on that point.
