Nixon gets hurt tonight and now they can't use Pena in trade talks anymore. I have to be honest in saying that it isn't looking good for Boston or Toronto (Right now)!

i agree, bos needs to make a move. if they stand pat which is typically their M.O. i dont thing they win al east.

Even as a fan of Boston, i really can't agree. Clement was just moved to the 60 day DL, who knows with Wells, Wakefield is not close yet and their middle relief is horrible. Nixon also went down with an injury tonight. The yanks also get help soon with Sheff and Matsui ... Along with Abreu. Their pitching may not be the best but they have a stable of starters now with Chacon and Ponson in the pen to cover injuries or middle relief.

Obviously as a Sox fan i'm cheering hard and hoping we hold on but above is my honest and unbiased opinion of the A.L. East RIGHT NOW!

Nobody has ever or should feel sorry for Boston's payroll because it has been 2nd, 3rd or 4th highest each year over the last several seasons. With that said, it is still about 1/2 of the Yankees payroll and simply tough to compete with. You get right there and BOOM ... They go get more big salary All Star talent and pull away again. It is interesting to watch each year and something no club in ANY other division has to deal with really. EVERY team in every Division can have that hot year and make a division or WC run. Do you honestly EVER see T.B. or Baltimore jumping above the NYY? I don't and i feel the same about the Blue Jays. They can keep spending and going nowhere, it just won't matter!

Phillies could care less who they got back. It was all about dumping salary. Gillick wants to build the team with young prospects, that's what they got.

I think Philly did what they wanted and dumped salary! NY didn't make them pickup any of it. Philly should sign some pitching and build a bright future around Utley & Howard. Burrell could be leaving too along with Lieber. It could open up alot of money for pitching next season!

I dont like this trade IMO.... Why are the yankees getting another OF??? Matsui comes back in a few weeks.... Melky has been great defensively and has a good arm... Lidle has a 4.70 era in the NL and moving the the AL??? Jesus fucking christ... i dont like this deal.. We give up Matt Smith who pitched like 12 innings and gave up no runs... Fuck fuck fuck... We need bullpen help and starting pitching.. Lidle is not the answer

Ronnie, I think someones hurt alot worse than they are letting on and that's why they made this trade. Only time will tell.
Who knows, Abreu might just be the spark this team needs.
Arod sure hasn't been lighting it up lately.

Could be, sure.....but at 17 Mill hes an expensive insurance policy especially when Melky has been doin OK

He is a great player though and will make their offense better, NO DOUBT

[QUOTE=jcindaville]Im a Braves fan, no jokes please. But when the sox's came back from 3 down to the Yanks, i became a sox's fan unless they play the braves.

That was "the" best baseball series I have ever seen!

Also keep in mind that Sheff's contract is up after this year...club option for next which they hinted in the off season that they were not going to re-up. So Abreau fits in for Sheff this yr and next, at slightly more money. Adding his $22 million contract is a lot, but I think Sheff is probably in for$16-$17 million between this year and next (if they were to take the option) so they are not adding a TON of payroll, but they are adding.
