  • Abreu & Lidle to the Yankees!?!?

ESPN is saying it could happen today for 3 prospects.

GREAT deal for N.Y. if it happens and i think it would FORCE Boston's hand to do something significant!

I agree. They are talking about Boston trading Lowell and/or Loretta. That scares the hell out of me and if they do, they better get something BIG in return. Those 2 guys have been key in us having the BEST Defense in baseball!

I love the fact the, if this happens, the Yanks are using up some of their prospects for a major bat, which they do not need. Where does Abreu play Whne Sheff and Matsui come back? DH Sheff and Giambi to first?

Wayne, why do I keep reading that the Sox are interested in Logo? With so many other holes to fill, I would think this is not a priority...no?

Im a Braves fan, no jokes please. But when the sox's came back from 3 down to the Yanks, i became a sox's fan unless they play the braves.

I can see TMAC right now, he's jumping up and down in his Jeter pajama's with a full erection. Probably on E-bay trying to order some Gayrod underoos

I think Lugo is staying in T.B.

I also think the only one who knows exactly how healthy Sheff and Matsui are is the Yanks. Maybe one or both are not doing as well as hoped. Who knows but Lidle is solid (imo) and Bobby can flat out hit in NY with that short porch in right (imo)!

I'll be honest. I've LOVED Soriano since his days in Texas. I would love him on my team BUT Boston just doesn't seem to have any interest. Yes, i would give up on some defense to get him and plug him into 2nd base

                  Soriano
                  Youk
                  Ortiz

                      Is Abreu Yankee-bound?
Jul 29 - The odds are becoming greater that Abreu will be moved before the deadline, and the Yankees are the most likely match for a trade, reports ESPN.com's Jayson Stark.
The Phillies and Yankees spoke about Abreu all day Friday and into the night, discussing different variations of a deal that would send the outfielder to New York.

The two teams are looking at other options Saturday that could include a package for Abreu and pitcher Cory Lidle or just for Abreu. The Phillies want both big-league talent and prospects in return, especially reliever Scott Proctor, whom they could eventually convert into a starter

The Phillies have backed off in their demand for either top pitching prospect Philip Hughes or outfield prospect Jose Tabata and instead would settle for other prospects, like third baseman Eric Duncan or pitcher Tyler Clippard.

Abreu is set to make $15 million in 2007, and he also has a $16 million option on his contract for 2008.

According to ESPN The Magazine's Buster Olney, the Yankees' internal debate about picking up Abreu, who has an option year and a no-trade clause, is that it could cost them $37 million if they pick up his option. They are said to be trying to decide if they want to spend that money.

It would be interesting to see if the Yankees give up Proctor. I really like him.

I think you just hit the nail on the "head".........Obviously Both Sheff and Matsui are gonna be out a little longer than anticipated.........Otherwise I don't understand the trades/possibilites of.........George's $$$$$$$$$$ speaks again.......MLB has got to come up with something more equal for Payroll in lieu of a penalty for overspending alotted budget.....We need more Parity, and a reduction in ticket prices, not more increases........Cause thats where they'll offset the deficit.........IMO----kapt

If the Yanks give up Proctor, that would be a big gamble.........

They could call that the "Proctor and Gamble" trade

On the other hand during the last 5 years at least, the Yanks have thrown around a lot of money signing big name players both before and during the season, and what has it got them other than a trip to the playoffs?
I sure hope Theo has the sense not to trade Loretta or Lowell simply to "keep up with the Joneses" (in this case the Stesinbrenners);signing players at this point in the season is a guarantee of nothing.
In some cases it might even hurt the team;how for example is Sheffield going to take this?
