ERAs for closers can be very misleading if they get shelled once or they pitch in a game where they are just getting work in they usually get drilled.

First and foremost what is that save %.....Jones does get the job done and to answer the question I would have to say NO......I wouldnt replace Jones with Wagner.

Its a short list of active closers I would replace Jones with and they are Rivera, K Rod, Smoltz, Benitez, and I cant think of any others. I say this simply because I am talking only of postseason and not regular season.

    PEACE
whaaaaaaat??? are you kidding me....benitez??? smoltz is not a closer anymore either......I would replace Jones with Paplebon in a hearbeat....Jenks.........BJ Ryan..>Trevor Hoffman...Nathan......

Jones is not a top notch closer at all.....I am all with you with the happy the tigers are back and stuff....but i think you should look at the closer situation a little more objectively.....Jones is not prize....He is serviceable at best and i am waiting until he really costs them.....because in my mind it is not if...it is when

How one swing of the bat can change a whole season. Tonight's game should be interesting after last nights grand salami.

he was brought it for the BIG saves and so far he's blown way to many. Reminds me of the Armando Banetiz days. So far he hasn't proved to me he's any better than Looper was last year.

1 run even 2 run leads scare me when he comes in. He'll he even blow a 4-run lead in a non-save chance.
            Good Luck to everyone

Richie: [after Gus hits a homerun] Wow and he did it without steroids.
            Clark: What's steroids?
Richie: Something that makes your pee-pee smaller.
Clark: There must be steroids in macaroni!

Lats see what happens when the bases are loaded with a 1 run lead vs the Yankees or White Sox (oh wait he already blew a 1 run game vs the White Sox)

What wayne?? you seem quiet now.

For some to call them the team to beat I think is really being optimistic unless of course you are referring to the have not teams that they have cleaned up on.
The current odds have them at 4 1/2 to 1 to win the WS while Red Sox and White Sox are at 5-1.
Some say that the reason they have such a poor record againt the good teams is that they caught them when they were playing poorly.
Well, if that is true, the opposite is true now. Tigers have been playing well and the White Sox awful;yet look at the score tonight.
As Wayne stated, this team may be good, but they are starting to remind me of the Seattle team of a few years ago which won 112 games and went out with a wimper in the first round.
If they can't win at least one of the next two against White sox and convincingly, then as far as I am concerned they are pretenders and should be rated at about 7-1 to win WS.
I AGREE WITH YOU SAVAGE I THINK THEY WILL DIE SOONER OR LATER JUST LIKE BALTMORE LAST YEAR

Baltimore didn't have the pitching that Detroit has.

Detroit won again today. Taking the series 2-1. IMO the margin of victory has no bearing. Today the beat the Chisox top pitcher and came from behind to do it. A bigger win than blowing out Chicago 10-1

I agree a close win like they had today is much more impressive than a blowout.

I think the Tigers just showed their true colors. Getting slammed in game one. Then coming back to take the series.

T, I never said Wagner was great. He has been slightly better than average this year. 4 blown saves in 23 opps is not awful...but it ain't great. If he hadn't blown a 4-0 lead against the Yankees, no one would think he has been that bad...
