Yeah right-someone is going to call a sports service and pay $50 just to find out the picks because he is curious and/or that he going to travel all the way to Las Vegas Nevada(the only state where sports gambling is legal) to actually play the games.
Could it be that legislators don't care in any event about the sports services in any event because if online betting is outlawed, sports services will become extinct anyways because no one could play the games anyways.
Oh yes, I suppose the legislators could always conclude there is a "remote" chance that if someone looked hard enough, he could find a local guy who might take the action, but because locals are so "few and far between" they don't count anyways.
Meanwhile in essence the legislators are saying "lets just focus on eliminating online betting for now;the (crooked and ILLEGAL) sports services are none of our business anyways as the picks are for newsmatter only, and local bookmakers, well there are not enough of them around to worry about."
Tehcnically services would have a problem too. They could have to give up their records of to whom they sell plays to and if they aren't overseas or in Nevada they would be in trouble.

if this passes the senate, could we get a BC member to give Bush a BJ to veto it?

Except under the present loose laws, probably nothing could be done unless it could be proven that the persons buying the plays were actually wagering somewhere illegally either via internet or a local.
Remember, as it stands now some services cover their asses good on their pick lines by saying information(picks) is for newsmatter only.

And we all know its BS.

Then I could say the banners on this site are for news information purposes only.

Then they should ban Porno and all forms of wagering.

Whats next-the government is going to come to sites like this and arrest people for posting picks because they would be in effect encouraging other people to take the plays and play them someplace, which we all know is illegal other than in Las Vegas.
You know I was actually serious a while back when I warned several folks in this forum who admitted taking action and saying who they need in order to win;believe me there are plenty of lowlife politicians who would love to make waves by seeing some folks involved illegally in gambling get arrested and/or fined.
I wouldn't be terribly shocked to learn that there at the present time some government officials who read these threads and are compiling data to use in the future for some evil purpose;sure I may be a bit paranoid here, but I sure as heck would be careful at this point regarding what I say in a public gambling forum;there are some real nasty, envious, self serving pricks out there.

What is funny and hypocritical is that the US government gets on Google's ass because Google agreed to China's rules regarding what it's citizens could and could not do on the internet. China wants to restrict what it's owns citizens could and could not read on the internet and the US frowned on it. And I mean the US goverment really got on Google hard for agreeing to the Chinese governments terms.

Yes. You are a bit paranoid and you should be locked up if you think that the Gov't is reading BC threads.

Is it conceivable that 1984(Big Brother) could be happening in 2006? Since when is this administration against spying or against checking up on its citizens?
I would think it is at least within the realm of possibility that if govt. wants to close down internet sites, they might be interested in who patronizes them;what better/more logical place to find some of the folks than reading the posts on a well known sports/gambling chatboard?
Even if I wrong, I think my logic makes some sense.
