DURHAM, N.C. (AP) Marvin Bagley had 25 points and 10 rebounds in his college debut, and No. 1 Duke opened another season of high expectations by routing Elon 97-68 on Friday night and moving Hall of Fame coach Mike Krzyzewski one victory from yet another career milestone.

Grayson Allen added 22 points and made six of the Blue Devils' 12 3-pointers while Gary Trent Jr. added 17 points and four more 3s.

Duke shot 55 percent - 71 percent while pulling away in the second half - and held the Phoenix to less than 40 percent shooting while looking the part of a team beginning a second straight season atop the AP Top 25 .

One of the tallest Duke teams in school history - this is just the program's fourth with an average height of at least 6-foot-7 - outrebounded the smaller Phoenix 48-30 while also forcing them into 11 consecutive missed shots during an early, tone-setting 17-0 run.

Coach K had no trouble earning his 999th career victory at Duke.

EAST LANSING, Mich. (AP) - Miles Bridges started his sophomore season with 20 points and 10 rebounds, helping Michigan State in a tuneup for a highly anticipated game.

The Spartans will play No. 1 Duke on Tuesday night in Chicago.

Michigan State took control against the Ospreys with a 19-0 run midway through the first half, led by 26 at halftime and coasted to a lopsided win in the opener for both teams.

North Florida's Ivan Gandia-Rosa had 19 points.

Freshman Jaren Jackson had 13 points, 13 rebounds and four blocks in his debut with the Spartans.

TUCSON, Ariz. (AP) - Allonzo Trier scored a career-high 32 points for Arizona.

Deandre Ayton, Arizona's acclaimed 7-foot-1 freshman, had 19 points and 12 rebounds in his collegiate debut. Dusan Ristic added 20 points for the Wildcats, who shot 60 percent from the field.

The Wildcats, without four players either due to discipline or injury, led by as many as 21 points in the first half. The Lumberjacks cut it to 10 in the opening minute of the second half before Arizona blew the game open.

Chris Bowling led Northern Arizona with 11 points.

No. 4 Kansas 92, Tennessee St. 56

LAWRENCE, Kan. (AP) - Lagerald Vick scored 23 points, Svi Mykhailiuk added 15 and Kansas routed Tennessee State in its lone tuneup before facing No. 5 Kentucky in the Champions Classic.

Devonte Graham added 10 points, 12 assists and seven rebounds for the short-handed Jayhawks, who played without five-star prospect Billy Preston. The touted freshman forward was suspended for the opener after he missed curfew Thursday night and failed to show up for class Friday.

Darreon Reddick had 20 points and Delano Spencer had 14 for the Tigers, who watched the longer, stronger Jayhawks use a 14-0 run in the opening minutes to build a 56-27 lead by halftime.

No. 5 Kentucky 73, Utah Valley 63

LEXINGTON, Ky. (AP) - Hamidou Diallo scored 13 second-half points, most of them during an 18-0 run, and Kentucky shot 59 percent after halftime.

One of Kentucky coach John Calipari's youngest rosters since arriving in Lexington showed its inexperience by struggling on both ends and trailing 34-25 at halftime. The Wildcats emerged from the break more energetic to make the pivotal run over 3:22 with eight consecutive baskets, including back-to-back transition dunks by Diallo.

The redshirt freshman guard, one of eight Kentucky newcomers, finished with 18 points. Shai Gilgeous-Alexander added 13 points, Kevin Knox 12 and Nick Richards 10.

Kenneth Ogbe had 12 points for the Wolverines.

PHILADELPHIA (AP) - Eric Paschall scored 15 points and Jalen Brunson had 14 to lead Villanova.

Villanova, the 2016 national champions, won their 15th straight season opener and pulled away in the second half.

Mike Smith scored 19 points for Columbia, which hung around in the first half as they chased their second win over Villanova in five years.

WICHITA, Kan. (AP) - Senior Darral Willis scored 19 points to lead Wichita State.

Wichita State reserves Samaje Haynes-Jones and Rauno Nurger each scored 11 points.

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. (AP) - Luke Maye had a career-high 26 points to go with 10 rebounds for North Carolina.

Freshman Garrison Brooks added 14 points for the reigning national champions, who opened the season without Final Four Most Outstanding Player Joel Berry II and Pittsburgh graduate transfer Cameron Johnson due to injuries.

The Tar Heels shot 50 percent and blew open a 14-point halftime lead to as many as 31 points down the stretch.

Spencer Haldeman had 15 points to lead Northern Iowa, which had upset the top-ranked Tar Heels at home in November 2015.

LOS ANGELES (AP) - Chimezie Metu had 18 points and 10 rebounds as Southern California opened the season with its highest ranking since 1974-75.

Bennie Boatwright added 13 points and Jordan McLaughlin had 12 points for the Trojans, who opened in the shadow of the sport's bribery scheme that has seen associate head coach Tony Bland charged, along with assistants from three other schools. He is on administrative leave.

Sophomore De'Anthony Melton was in street clothes on USC's bench for precautionary reasons, with the team saying it involves a potential eligibility issue. The FBI investigation of assistant coaches accused of using bribes to influence star players' choice of schools, shoe sponsors and agents referred to a USC sophomore.

Jackson Rowe led Fullerton with 12 points. The Titans fell to 0-6 in the teams' first meeting since 2014.

RAMSTEIN AIR BASE, Germany (AP) - Tyler Davis had 23 points and 13 rebounds, Admon Gilder scored 23 points and Texas A&M overcame a sluggish start to dominate the Armed Forces Classic.

D.J. Hogg added 19 points for the Aggies, who played without suspended forward Robert Williams and point guard J.J. Caldwell. Gilder also had nine rebounds and seven assists.

James ''Beetle'' Bolden led West Virginia with 19 points. Jevon Carter added 13 and Wes Harris scored 12.

The game was played in a hangar on the sprawling Ramstein Air Base in southwestern Germany and it marked the only matchup among ranked men's teams on the opening day of the college basketball season.

HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Ky. (AP) - Cane Broome scored 17 points during his debut as Cincinnati's point guard, and the Bearcats pulled away.

Gary Clark - one of three returning starters - had 13 points and 11 rebounds for the Bearcats.

Austin Dasent scored 14 points for Savannah State, which led the nation in 3-pointers last season but couldn't make enough down the stretch to pull off the upset. The Tigers trailed 69-62 with 12 minutes to go, but missed 14 of their final 17 shots from beyond the arc.

CORAL GABLES, Fla. (AP) - Sophomore Bruce Brown had his second career triple-double and the third in school history for Miami.

Brown, who is widely expected to turn pro after this season, totaled 10 points, 11 rebounds and 10 assists in 31 minutes.

Lonnie Walker IV, Miami's most highly touted recruit under coach Jim Larranaga, came off the bench in his collegiate debut to total 10 points and five assists in 25 minutes.

D.J. Laster had 10 points for Gardner-Webb which extended its losing streak against ranked teams to 10 games dating to November 2007.

MINNEAPOLIS (AP) - Jordan Murphy scored a career-high 35 points and grabbed 15 rebounds and Reggie Lynch added 15 points and 10 rebounds for Minnesota.

The Gophers owned a 54-35 rebounding advantage and outscored the Spartans 46-18 in the paint, pulling away right before halftime following a sluggish start.

Malik Moore scored 22 points for the Spartans.

CINCINNATI (AP) - Trevon Bluiett scored 21 of his 25 points during Xavier's blistering first half.

The Musketeers scored 62 points in the first half, their most since they had 68 during the opening half of a 117-75 victory over Fairleigh Dickinson in the 2012 season opener.

Xavier's senior guard tandem of Bluiett and J.P. Macura had their way. Macura scored Xavier's first eight points on a layup, a 3-pointer and a three-point play, sparking an 18-1 run. He finished with 18 points.

Jordan Walker scored 13 points for Morehead State.

SPOKANE, Wash. (AP) - Josh Perkins scored 20 points, hitting six 3-pointers, for Gonzaga.

Johnathan Williams added 16 points for Gonzaga, which lost four key players from a team that last season lost to North Carolina in the NCAA championship game.

Demontrae Jefferson scored 20 points for Texas Southern, which is playing its first 13 games on the road against some of the nation's top teams. Their first home game is Jan. 1, 2018.

ROSEMONT, Ill. (AP) - Scottie Lindsey scored 26 points and Derek Pardon added 16 for Northwestern.

Andrew Kostecka scored a career-high 22 points for Loyola.

SHANGHAI (AP) - Led by freshman Kris Wilkes with 18 points, UCLA overcame the loss of three other freshmen who were held out to beat Georgia Tech.

Fellow freshman Jaylen Hands added 14 points, Aaron Holiday had 11 and Thomas Welsh had 10 for the Bruins, who used defense in the closing minutes to hold off the Yellow Jackets.

Ben Lammers scored 18 of his 24 points in the first half for Tech before the Bruins slowed him with double-teams in the second half.

UCLA played without freshmen LiAngelo Ball, Jalen Hill and Cody Riley, who have been identified by the Los Angeles Times and ESPN as having been arrested on shoplifting charges during the team's trip to China. The school has yet to confirm any details. Pac-12 Commissioner Larry Scott, who is on the trip, has only said ''an incident'' occurred in Hangzhou, where both teams visited earlier in the week before their arrival in Shanghai.

NCAA Basketball Preview
November 10, 2017

Kentucky opened 10-to-1 when the Westgate Las Vegas SuperBook put it out its initial figures last April just before North Carolina denied Gonzaga the championship for all mid-majors.

John Calipari deserves that kind of juice, but hasn't won since 2012 and will need to do his best coaching job ever to add to his legend in '18. The Wildcats are probably more raw than they've been at any point since missing the NCAA tournament with that post-championship group led by freshmen Willie Cauley-Stein, Nerlens Noel and Archie Goodwin.

While the 'Cats won't miss the NCAAs, you don't want to get in on them at the 8-to-1 spot where they currently reside. You'll be able to get better bang for your buck down the road since the belief here is that Kentucky will lose a handful of times before getting it together since they play Kansas, Virginia Tech, UCLA and Louisville before the SEC season arrives.

With the starting backcourt of De'Arron Fox and Malik Monk off to the NBA, freshmen Quade Green, Hamidou Diallo, Shai Gilgeous-Alexander and Jemarl Baker will man the guard spots. Another freshman, Kevin Knox should be the best player unless fellow frosh forward P.J. Washington makes the most improvement. The 'Cats will be as athletic as ever, but there will be growing pains that make backing them as a favored group rather foolish at the current odds.

Defending champion North Carolina returns point guard Joel Berry and wing Theo Pinson, but lost bigs Kennedy Meeks, Isaiah Hicks and Tony Bradley in addition to key wing Justin Jackson. Berry will miss the first few games with a broken hand suffered after he punched a wall in frustration after losing a video game. After opening at 12/1, the defending champs are now 30-to-1, offering tremendous value to back what would be the first successful repeat bid since 1973. I don't see that happening either.

Who should you get down on? Glad you asked.

Final Four projections

Arizona, Duke, Kansas and Michigan State are my choices to reach the 2018 Final Four in San Antonio's Alamodome, which would make for a fantastic field but looms as unlikely since there are no Cinderellas in that group. We've grown accustomed to seeing teams like Gonzaga, South Carolina, Oklahoma, Wichita State and Butler make runs to end up among the last four standing, and there's certainly enough parity for a team we don't currently see coming to add their name to that list.

Eric Musselman's Nevada Wolf Pack are at 200-to-1, the same odds that heavyweights like Syracuse and Indiana carry into the season.

Cincinnati is loaded and a great option at 100-to-1 since many believe that Mick Cronin will have his best, deepest team at his disposal despite the loss of point guard Troy Caupain.

Arizona (6/1) features one of the nation's top freshmen in DeAndre Ayton, a 7-foot-1 athletic specimen originally from the Bahamas. He'll do most of his damage in the paint but has range out to the perimeter and should make life easy for standout veteran guards Parker Jackson-Cartwright and Allonzo Trier.

Duke (4/1) returns everyone's favorite temperamental guard, Grayson Allen, who will share the stage with a pair of elite recruits in freshman forwards Marvin Bagley and Wendell Carter in addition to wing Gary Trent, Jr and point guard Trevon Duval. This class is the best in the country, superior to Kentucky's, as Mike Krzyzewski continues to thrive by signing one-and-dones.

Kansas (12/1) lost point guard Frank Mason III and star wing Josh Jackson, but remain formidable due to terrific depth. It should help the cause that the Jayhawks will work against a scout team led by Memphis transfers Dedric Lawson and K.J. Lawson in addition to Cal import Charlie Moore. All played major minutes at their old schools before defecting to Lawrence.

Michigan State (4/1) got a major boost when forward Miles Bridges opted to return for his sophomore season after dropping jaws when he was healthy enough to play last season. If he can stay out on the floor, Tom Izzo will get the best out of him and a sophomore-laded group featuring Cassius Winston, Joshua Langford and Nick Ward, all of whom put in work last season. Veterans Tum-Tum Nairn, Gavin Schilling and Kenny Goins add depth as glue guys, making this one of Izzo's deeper squads.

Young Names to Know

It seems like every year we go in knowing very few of the names who end up dominating the college landscape since the current trend is that the elite freshmen rarely need an adjustment period. Of the first 11 picks in the 2017 NBA Draft, 10 were freshmen. The outlier was French point guard Frank Ntilikina, also a teenager.

This season, Missouri's Michael Porter, Jr., Duke's Bagley, Arizona's Ayton and Alabama's Collin Sexton are the four freshmen most likely to have an immense impact in becoming the next crop of one-and-dones. Louisville's Brian Bowen, at the heart of the latest scandal that cost Rick Pitino his job, deserves mention in this group if he can get qualified.

If you're into more veteran-laden teams, take a look at West Virginia, Xavier, Villanova, Florida, Miami (FL), Gonzaga, Notre Dame, Northwestern and aforementioned Cincinnati. Wichita State will challenge the WCC's Zags and Saint Mary's Gaels for the honor of being the country's top-ranked mid-major but note that the Shockers are now in the American Athletic Conference.

— Florida allowed 42+ points in back/back games for first time since 1917.

— Northwestern won its last three games, all in OT- first team to do that.

— NC State hasn’t won the ACC basketball tourney since 1987, the regular season since ’89.

— Bad news for Pitt’s hoop team; they were +3 at Navy Friday. Hard to succeed in ACC if you’re an underdog to a service academy.

Armadillo: Saturday's List of 13: Wrapping up Opening Night in college basketball

13) Indiana State 90, Indiana 69— Sycamores made 17-26 (17-26!!!) behind the arc, getting the Archie Miller era off to a very rough start in Bloomington. Shooting is marketable; if you’re a kid who wants to play ball in college, work your butt off on becoming a great shooter.

12) Texas A&M 88, West Virginia 65— Aggies had their PG and their best player sitting out this game, they trailed by 13 early, but West Virginia struggles to score in half-court offense, and they’re not as deep as the past couple years, so they can’t press as much as they have.

Takeaway from this game; Texas A&M is a top 10 team.

10) Missouri 74, Iowa State 59— Tigers got a huge influx of talent, are an NCAA-caliber team, which has invigorated fan support on campus- this was their first home sellout in four years. Iowa State is in rebuilding mode; they got spanked pretty good here.

Missouri’s highly-touted freshman Michael Porter Jr played only 2 minutes after tweaking a hip injury— he is a kid who is in college a year early, so he can get to the NBA and start earning the big bucks a year earlier than otherwise. Missouri hired his dad as an assistant coach- his brother is a player on the team, too.

9) Charleston 68, Siena 60 OT— Cougars have all five starters back, are expected to win CAA; Saints are in a near total rebuild, so closeness of this game was a surprise.

8) Lamar 74, Tulsa 67— Score one for the Southland Conference; Lamar played only 8 guys, but had 14 offensive boards. AAC is improved with addition of Wichita State; could be a long year for the Golden Hurricane.

7) Kentucky 73, Utah Valley 63— Utah Valley led this game by 9 at the half, but Wildcats didn’t shoot 7-32 in the 2nd half, the way they did in the first half.

WAC’s Wolverines play Duke Saturday afternoon, so a rough 24 hours on the basketball court, an excellent 24 hours for the school’s accountants.

Utah Valley is picked to finish 3rd in an improving WAC- they could be a Cinderella team in March- they’re also the first team in at least 68 years to begin a season with road games at a pair of opponents ranked in the top 5 nationally.

6) Off-court news: BYU’s Nick Emery has withdrawn from school; he will not play for this season, which is VERY bad news for the Cougars.

5) VCU 94, Grambling 65— VCU is a prime mid-major job; this game was the Rams’ 100th home sellout in a row. Coaches still jump from VCU to the bigger money jobs, though not sure its a wise move. Wonder if Shaka Smart regrets leaving VCU to go to Texas?

4) South Carolina 73, Wofford 52— Credit to Frank Martin- he went to Wofford for this game, and Terriers sold their gym out. Not lot of Power 5 teams would take on a true road game like this one, against an in-state upstart.

3) Washington 86, Belmont 82— OVC’s Bruins were up 8 at the half, but Huskies’ freshman Nowell scored 32 points to bail the home team out.

2) Bad Beat of the Night: Marshall 102, Tenn-Martin (+8.5) 91, in OT— Skyhawks were up 15 at halftime, and still didn’t cover- ouch.

Runner-up was Omaha (+8.5) losing 89-80 in OT at Montana State.

1) UCLA 63, Georgia Tech 60— Bruins never scored fewer than 74 points in a game LY, when Lonzo Ball was their point guard. I’m guessing Steve Alford will be just as happy to get back to this country and resume normal life.

IUPUI joins the Horizon League this year, after going 7-9 in a tougher Summit League LY. Jaguars lost three starters/40 ppg from LY- they’re picked near bottom of Horizon, seeing how they’ve got to replace their top three scorers from LY. Last two years, MVC teams are 6-6 vs spread when facing a Horizon League opponent.

DePaul opens its new 10,000-seat arena here; Blue Demons’ last winning season was 11 years ago. Blue Demons have four starters back from LY but their best player graduated; they poached a grad transfer from Northern Illinois who scored 14.1 ppg LY. Notre Dame has 82 wins the last three years, going to Elite 8 twice; they’ve got three starters back from a 26-10 team that lost in 2nd round of the NCAA’s- they’re expected to be a top 20 team. Last two years, Big East teams are 15-9 vs spread when facing an ACC opponent.

St Joe’s nipped Toledo 77-76 at home LY, after trailing by 8 in first half; Hawks made only 17-28 on foul line. St Joe’s has all five starters back from an 11-20 team that went 4-14 in A-14, losing 10 of last 11 games. Hawks start pair of 6-0 guards; they should be healthier/quicker than last year. Toledo lost three starters from a 17-17, 9-9 team that played 8 overtime games (3-5), tying an all-time record. Rockets’ two best players from LY both graduated. Last two years, A-14 teams are 6-5 vs spread when facing a MAC team.

Tex-Arlington won 80-77 at Loyola Marymount LY, despite Lions making 12-29 on the arc. UTA out 3 starters from a 27-9 team that won the Sun Belt regular season title. Mavericks have couple of senior starts, but rest of the rotation figures to be pretty young. LMU has a former NBA coach in Dunlap, but he’s lost 7 of his top 8 scorers from LY’s 15-15, 8-10 team, so this is almost a total rebuild. LMU brought in a couple of JC point guards to run the show. Last year, Sun Belt teams covered three of four games vs WCC opponents.

Akron beat Cleveland State 65-53 in last meeting two years ago; both teams have new coaches this season. Cleveland St went 9-22 LY, is expected to finish last in Horizon; they lost their best player, who bolted to Arizona State. Vikings Akron went 27-9 LY but lost in MAC tourney- they lost four starters and their coach, who moved on to Duquesne. Zips then lost six transfers after the coach left, so they’re rebuilding here. 78% of Akron’s scoring from LY is gone. Last two years, MAC teams are 25-19 vs spread when playing a Horizon League foe.

Youngstown State lost 79-70 at Kent State two years ago, in teams’ last meeting. Penguins have a new coach after a 13-21, 5-13 season. Coach Calhoun says Penguins will play very fast; his Fairnont St team lost D-II national title game LY. YSU has 8 new players this year; they will try to press/run like West Virginia does. Kent State has 64 wins the last three years; they’ve got 3 starters back from a 22-14, 10-8 team that won the MAC tourney, lost 97-80 to UCLA in NCAA’s. Last two years, MAC teams are 20-11 vs spread when favored over a Horizon League opponent.

Buffalo lost 53% of its scoring, 50% of its playing time LY’s 17-15 team that was first Bulls’ team in three years not to make NCAAs. They have a transfer coming in who will help, but he in’t eligible yet. Canisius went 18-16 in Witherspoon’s first year as coach LY; Griffins lost 57% of their scoring from LY. Last two years, MAC teams are 6-2 SU vs MAAC teams (4-4 vs spread). Buffalo fired Witherspoon in 2013; he had won 18+ games in four of his last five years, so if you think the same means more to him, you’re right. Canius beat Buffalo 94-87 in OT last year.

Penn shot 63.6% inside arc in 74-68 home win over Fairfield LY; Quakers were down 12 early on in that game. Fairfield has three starters back from 16-15, 11-9 team, including a senior PG, but rest of team has lot of newcomers. Penn has four starters back from 13-15, 6-8 team; they were 0-6 in the Ivy at one point. Quakers ave three sophs who logged lot of playing time LY. Penn hasn’t won the Ivy League in a decade, has been under .500 in Ivy the last five years. Last two years, MAAC teams are 15-9-1 vs spread when playing an Ivy League team.

Quinnipiac has a new coach, two starters back after LY’s 10-21, 7-13 team- their top two scorers transferred after the season. Bobcats have two transfers sitting out, figure to struggle this year. Dartmouth has three starters back a 7-20, 4-10 team that started the season 0-9. Big Green has its top five scorers back from LY- nine of their players are frosh/sophs. Last two years, MAAC teams are 15-9-1 vs spread when playing an Ivy League team.

St Peter’s went 23-13 LY, won the CIT, their most wins since 1991; they finished 2nd in MAAC regular season. Peacocks played 5th-slowest tempo in America LY; they’re much younger this season, figure to regress some. LaSalle has all five starters back from 15-15, 9-9 team- coach is on the hot seat this season. Explorers need starting PG Powell to stay healthy this year- they went 4-10 after he got hurt last season. Last two years, MAAC teams are 12-9 vs spread when facing an A-14 opponent.

North Dakota State opens season with Santa Barbara/USC trip; solid scheduling. ND State has eight players, three starters back from 19-11, 11-5 team; Bison also added six newcomers. Last year was first time in five years the Bison won less than 20 games- they’re picked 3rd in 8-team Summit this year. UCSB has new coach after a 6-22 disaster; he’s brought in lot of new guys but health of recovering star Vincent (torn ACL in February) will be a key. Last two years, Summit teams are 8-5 vs spread who playing a Big West opponent.

Eastern Illinois beat Illinois in an exhibition game, so they’ll be confident here; Panthers have four senior starters back from 14-15, 6-10 team that didn’t make OVC tourney LY. EIU brought in junior college players to fill holes; they’re trying to win now, to save the coaches’ jobs. Nebraska shot 32% from arc LY, their opponents 39.9%; 4th-worst difference in country; all the Huskers’ new players are shooters. Nebraska will depend on freshmen to score from outside. Last two years, Big 14 teams are 8-4 vs spread when playing an OVC team.

Portland State won 77-75 at Portland LY, making 10-27 on arc in ages they led by 13 in first half, but Vikings finished 15-16 and now have a new coach. State lost three starters from LY; they want to play 9-10 guys now, will need immediate help from four transfers who came in. Portland was 11-22 in Porter’s first year as coach; he lost two transfers, but brings in the #10 recruiting class in country, which includes Porter’s two sons. Pilots took a trip to England this summer- those trips help. Last two years, WCC teams are 15-14 vs spread when playing Big Sky teams.

DURHAM, N.C. (AP) Duke's Mike Krzyzewski became the first men's Division I coach to win 1,000 games at one school Saturday night when his top-ranked Blue Devils beat Utah Valley 99-69 behind 24 points and 10 rebounds from freshman Marvin Bagley III.

Grayson Allen added 18 points for Duke (2-0) while three other freshmen also had big nights: Trevon Duval had 15 points and 12 assists, Gary Trent Jr. added 17 points and Wendell Carter Jr. had 12.

Utah Valley, which pestered No. 5 Kentucky a night earlier, gave Duke about 10 minutes' worth of trouble before the Blue Devils pulled away on the strength of arguably the nation's best freshman class.

Each of Duke's first 40 points was scored by a freshman, including every single one during the 27-8 run midway through the first half that gave the Blue Devils a comfortable lead.

Krzyzewski, who in 2015 became the first men's coach at college basketball's top level to reach the 1,000-win mark, improved to 1,073-330 during a 43-year career that also included a half-decade at his alma mater, Army. In 38 seasons at Duke, he is 1,000-271.

Akolda Manyang had 17 points and 12 rebounds to lead Utah Valley (0-2).

CHICAGO (AP) - T.J. Gibbs scored 21 points to lead Notre Dame in the season opener for both teams.

Bonzie Colson had 18 points and 13 rebounds and Matt Farrell added 15 points for the Irish.

Eli Cain and Tre'Darius McCallum scored 14 points apiece for DePaul. Max Strus added 11 points and Devin Gage had 10.

The Irish made 9 of 12 3-point attempts after halftime. They hit 12 of 27 from beyond the arc overall and shot 47.2 percent from the field to DePaul's 33.8 percent.
