NBA notebook: Rockets' Paul to miss game vs. Clippers
December 21, 2017
Chris Paul's first opportunity to face his former team will have to wait.
The nine-time All-Star point guard was ruled out of Friday's home game against the Los Angeles Clippers due to a groin injury.
Paul forced a trade from the Clippers to the Houston Rockets in the offseason after spending the previous six seasons with Los Angeles.
Paul, who missed 14 games earlier this season due to a knee injury, suffered a strained left adductor during Wednesday's 122-116 loss to the Los Angeles Lakers. He isn't expected to miss too much time.
--The Cleveland Cavaliers assigned two-time All-Star guard Isaiah Thomas to the Canton Charge of the G League.
Thomas is expected to practice with the Charge as he continues to work his way back from a hip injury that caused him to sit out each of the Cavaliers' games this season. The 28-year-old was acquired by Cleveland in the blockbuster offseason deal that saw Kyrie Irving head to the Boston Celtics.
Thomas averaged a career-best 28.9 points, 5.9 assists and 2.7 rebounds per game last season for the Celtics, who secured the best record in the East and advanced to the conference final before falling to the Cavaliers.
--A semi-truck hauling a dumpster plunged into the swimming pool of the southwest Portland home owned by Trail Blazers guard Evan Turner, leading to the driver needing to be rescued by emergency responders.
Authorities said the unidentified driver lost control on a hairpin curve and found himself down a hill and submerged in the pool on Wednesday.
One responder kept the driver's head out of the water, while others used the "Jaws of Life" to remove the steering column that had pinned the driver inside the cab. At least eight people were involved in the rescue attempt, a Portland Fire & Rescue spokeswoman told The Oregonian.
The driver sustained serious injuries and was taken to Oregon Health and Science University Medical Center for treatment, according to The Oregonian.
