    Mavericks at Celtics (-4 ½, 204 ½) – 7:05 PM EST

Not many teams pull off a road sweep of the Thunder and Rockets on consecutive nights, but Boston (6-4 SU, 6-4 ATS) completed that feat as the Celtics go for their fourth straight win against the Mavericks. The Celtics used two big quarters in each highway triumph, outscoring Oklahoma City, 28-11 in the fourth period in Sunday’s 15-point rout, followed by a 32-13 outburst in the third quarter in Monday’s 111-95 blowout of Houston. Brad Stevens’ team is stepping up its defense by limiting six of their last eight opponents to less than 100 points, resulting in a 7-1 run to the ‘under.’

Dallas (7-4 SU, 6-5 ATS) wraps up a three-game road trip going for the sweep after beating Houston and Philadelphia. The Mavs failed to cover against the winless 76ers in Monday’s 92-86 victory as eight-point favorites, as Chandler Parsons busted out for a season-high 20 points after failing to score in double-figures in his first six games. Rick Carlisle’s club owns a 3-3 SU/ATS record in the underdog role this season, while winning nine of the last 10 meetings with the Celtics since 2010.

    Pelicans at Thunder (-8 ½, 213 ½) – 8:05 PM EST

The nightmare start for New Orleans (1-10 SU, 2-9 ATS) continued in Tuesday’s 115-98 home defeat to Denver as six-point favorites, as star Anthony Davis exited the game with a shoulder injury in the first half. Davis is listed as questionable for tonight’s action as the Pelicans’ leading scorer has missed two games already for this banged-up team, who owns a 1-7 ATS record in the underdog role. New Orleans has allowed at least 100 points in 10 of 11 games this season, but the Pelicans won and covered three of four matchups with the Thunder last season.

Kevin Durant remains out for the Thunder (6-5 SU, 5-6 ATS) with a hamstring injury, as OKC is 1-2 SU/ATS with the former scoring champion sidelined. The Thunder fell short at Memphis on Monday in a 122-114 setback, giving up their most points in regulation this season. Russell Westbrook scored at least 40 points for the second time this season on Monday, while falling to 1-4 ATS on the highway. Oklahoma City has won and cashed in four of six home contests, as the Thunder is riding a 4-1 ‘under’ stretch in the last five at Chesapeake Energy Arena.

    Nuggets at Spurs (-13, 195 ½) – 8:35 PM EST

Mike Malone’s squad is playing with confidence as Denver (6-5 SU, 6-5 ATS) picked up its fourth victory in five tries in Tuesday’s 17-point rout at New Orleans. The Nuggets won for the third time away from the Pepsi Center, as all six road games for Denver have been decided by double-digits this season. Denver knocked down 15 three-pointers and shot 53% from the floor in the Big Easy, but are 0-2 SU/ATS with no rest this season, as both losses at Golden State and Phoenix came by over 15 points apiece.

The Spurs (8-2 SU, 7-3 ATS) go for their sixth consecutive win and a perfect 3-0 homestand following a pair of low-scoring victories over the Blazers and 76ers. San Antonio has been tenacious on the defensive end at home, not allowing more than 94 points in any of its four victories at the AT&T Center, resulting in a 3-1 mark to the ‘under.’ The Spurs completed the four-game sweep of the Nuggets last season, but Denver has cashed in three of the past four visits to San Antonio as an underdog since 2013.

    Raptors at Jazz (-4 ½, 189) – 9:05 PM EST

Nobody has been able to knock off Golden State this season, but Toronto (7-5 SU, 8-4 ATS) gave it a great shot in a 115-110 setback last night at Oracle Arena. The Raptors lost their fifth game in their last seven tries, but managed a cover as 9 ½-point underdogs, improving to 3-1 ATS when receiving points this season. The defense has slipped of late for Dwane Casey’s club, yielding at least 100 points in four of the past five games since giving up triple-digits just once in the first seven contests. Toronto has dominated this series the last two seasons, capturing all four matchups, including a pair of double-digit victories at Vivint Smart Home Arena.

The Jazz (5-5 SU, 7-3 ATS) have endured a road-heavy schedule so far, playing eight games away from Salt Lake City. How unkind are the NBA schedule makers to Quin Snyder’s team? Utah hasn’t played consecutive games at home yet, as the Jazz go back on the road to Dallas on Friday night after playing the last four contests on the highway, going 1-3 SU and 3-1 ATS. The Jazz avoided a winless trip by edging the Hawks on Sunday, 97-96 as three-point underdogs, as Utah has been held below 100 points in nine of 10 games this season.

    Bulls at Suns (-2 ½, 199 ½) – 10:35 PM EST

Cleveland and Chicago (7-3 SU, 3-7 ATS) are the top two teams in the Central division, but those two contenders haven’t been great ATS squads this season. The Cavaliers have failed to cover eight straight games after last night’s loss at Detroit, while the Bulls are 2-6 ATS in the past eight contests. Chicago embarks on its annual Circus road trip, getting kicked out of the United Center for the next four games. The Bulls will start this trip without point guard Derrick Rose, who suffered an ankle injury in Monday’s 96-95 home victory over the Pacers, but failed to cover as 6 ½-point favorites.

Phoenix (6-4 SU, 7-3 ATS) tries to complete a perfect 4-0 homestand before a three-game road swing, coming off a 120-101 blowout of the Lakers on Monday as 11-point favorites. Since losing the season opener to the Mavericks, the Suns are an impressive 5-1 SU/ATS in their last six home contests, with all five victories coming by double-figures. Phoenix has had problems with Chicago at home through the years, losing three of the past four matchups, while the Bulls have covered in each of their last four visits to the Valley.

      • Bulls, Suns hook up
        November 18, 2015

CHICAGO BULLS (7-3) at PHOENIX SUNS (6-4)

        Tip-off: Wednesday, 10:35 p.m. ET
        Sportsbook.ag Line: Phoenix -2.5

The Bulls and Suns meet in Phoenix on Wednesday and both teams will be entering the matchup on three-game winning streaks.

Chicago is fresh off of a 96-95 home victory over Indiana for its third straight victory and fourth in its past five games. The team has been finding ways to win and looks way more comfortable in Fred Hoiberg’s offense. The Bulls have, however, failed to cover in three of the past four. The Suns, meanwhile, defeated the Lakers 120-101 as 11.5-point home favorites last game. Phoenix has won three straight games and six of its past nine. The team has also covered in three straight contests and seven of its past nine as well.

The Bulls and Suns met twice a year ago and the home team won each game, but the road team covered in both. The teams have split victories in Phoenix over the past three seasons, but Chicago is 2-0 ATS in those games. The Bulls are also 3-1 both SU and ATS versus the Suns over the past three seasons overall. One thing favoring Chicago in this game is the fact that the team is 16-6 ATS in road games after playing a home game as a favorite over the past two seasons. Phoenix, however, is 15-4 ATS after a win by 10 points or more over the past two seasons.

PG Derrick Rose (Ankle) is doubtful for the Bulls, who are already without SF Mike Dunelavy (Back) for the next few weeks. PF Markieff Morris (Knee), meanwhile, will likely give it a go for the Suns in this one.

Chicago has been playing much better recently and is coming into this meeting with Phoenix after winning three straight. SG Jimmy Butler (1.2 PPG, 5.1 RPG, 3.1 APG, 1.9 SPG) has been the Bulls’ best player this season and he will need to take on an even bigger role over the next few games. With Rose out, Butler will be the primary ball handler in this offense and he will need to find a way to balance out his scoring and playmaking. If he is unable to set up his teammates for easy buckets then this team will have a tough time scoring enough to hang with a high-powered Phoenix team.

C Pau Gasol (1.5 PPG, 9.8 RPG, 2.2 BPG) will also need to take his game to another level. Gasol is a very gifted passer and could be called upon to make more plays out of the high post. His rim protection will also be needed big time against guys like Bledsoe that love to attack the rim. One guy who could be in for a big game on Wednesday is PF Nikola Mirotic (.11.5 PPG, 6.2 RPG). The Suns play a fast-paced game and Mirotic is the type of stretch four that could give them fits.

The Suns have looked really solid as of late and SG Brandon Knight (20.2 PPG, 5.0 APG, 4.3 RPG, 1.4 SPG) is coming off of the best game of his career. Knight had 30 points, 15 assists, 10 rebounds and four steals in a win over the Lakers on Monday. He will need to stay hot heading into this matchup with a very good Bulls team. PG Eric Bledsoe (23.0 PPG, 5.9 APG, 4.1 RPG, 2.1 SPG) could go off in this game, though.

Chicago is going to be without Derrick Rose and that will give Bledsoe a huge physical advantage over whoever starts for Chicago. He will use his speed to get his team easy buckets in transition. C Tyson Chandler (6.5 PPG, 10.1 RPG, 0.8 BPG) is going to be crucial in this contest on Wednesday. Chandler is one of the league’s best defenders around the rim and he will be very busy against Chicago in this one. The Bulls constantly get shots around the basket and Chandler will need to alter a few or his team likely won’t be able to win.

          • Inside the Paint - Thursday
            November 19, 2015

Thursday’s NBA slate features three games on tap, which includes the nationally televised double-header on TNT. If you’ve been wagering on the Association this season, I hope you’ve been backing underdogs because it’s been that kind of season. Digging up the numbers, we’ve seen favorites connect at a 67 percent straight up clip but underdogs have been cashing at a 57 percent rate against the spread.

Last night, favorites went 8-2 SU but underdogs were very competitive and posted an impressive 8-2 ATS mark.

Will the favorites finally win and cover tonight or will the ‘dogs keep barking.

            Here’s my quick handicap.

Sacramento at Miami: Oddsmakers have installed Miami as an eight-point home favorite for this game and the Heat will be looking to bounce back from a 103-91 home loss to Minnesota on Tuesday. The Heat were outscored 41-22 in the fourth quarter and that setback dropped their home record to 5-2 SU and 4-3 ATS.

The Kings came up short to the Hawks 103-97 as 2 ½-point road underdogs last night and will now face a back-to-back spot tonight. Playing on zero days rest was an issue last season for Sacramento and has been again this year. The Kings are 0-2 SU but they did manage covers to the Clippers and Warriors.

This series has been one-sided the last five seasons with Miami winning nine of the last 10 while posting a 7-3 mark versus the number with most of those wins coming during the LeBron era in Miami. The ‘over’ has produced a 7-3 mark during this span.

The best total bet in the NBA this season has been the ‘under’ in Miami, who has seen its last nine games go to the low side. Thursday’s total is listed at 200 ½ and even though the Heat stress defense (91.5 PPG) and a slow pace, the Kings are ranked 28th in scoring defense (107.5 PPG).

Milwaukee at Cleveland: Quick rematch game between this pair with the Bucks defeating the Cavaliers 108-105 in double-overtime last Saturday as five-point home underdogs. Cleveland has been installed as a 9 ½-point home favorite for this game and that number seems a tad too high.

Outside of a 30-point win against Memphis, this Cleveland team has been anything but sharp. Despite an 8-3 record, the Cavaliers have been going through the motions and you really can’t blame them against the weak competition in the East. For our purposes, fading Cleveland has been a tremendous investment as it enters this game on a 0-8 ATS run.

Cleveland has dropped two straight games and LeBron James called out his team after Tuesday’s 104-99 to Detroit. “We are too relaxed and too nice,” James said. “We need to get tougher, but I'm not talking about being an iron man. You have to be mentally tough, and that means performing at the best of your abilities at all times. We've got some guys who do that all the time, and some guys who don't.”

The Cavaliers haven’t lost at home this season (5-0) but they’re 1-4 against the spread and the largest margin of victory was 10 points. Cleveland has won three of the last four against Milwaukee at home and LeBron James sat out the one loss, which occurred last season.

The Bucks have been inconsistent (2-3 SU, 3-2 ATS) on the road and a very tough team to gauge thus far. They don’t play fast and they don’t have a true scorer on their team, with five players averaging double figures but none greater than 17 PPG.

Total bettors should note that five of the last six have gone ‘over’ the number and Cleveland is on a 5-1 run to the ‘over’ heading into this game. Thursday’s total opened 195 ½ and has dropped to 194 ½.

Golden State at L.A. Clippers: Thursday’s key matchup from the Staples Center will pit the unbeaten Warriors (12-0 SU, 7-5 ATS) against Pacific Division rival Los Angeles Clippers (6-4 SU, 4-6 ATS). Golden State has been skating on thin ice lately, barely getting past the Nets (107-99) in overtime and Raptors (115-110) in a very tight game. The Warriors failed to cover both those contests but the spreads in those games were very high.

For Thursday, Golden State opened as a 5 ½-point favorite and the number has been bumped up to 6 ½ at most betting shops. Unfortunately this game loses some luster with Clippers point guard Chris Paul (groin) expected to miss tonight’s action. The All-Star has sat out three games this season and Los Angeles has gone 1-2 both SU and ATS, the lone win coming this pass Saturday at home to Detroit (101-96).

Even though L.A. could be short-handed, it hasn’t played since last Saturday and you would expect Doc Rivers and company to put forth a quality effort. The Clippers have gone 5-1 SU and 2-4 ATS at home this season, but they’ve been favored in all of those games while they’re catching points tonight.

Golden State outlasted Los Angeles 112-108 on Nov. 4 in a back-and-forth affair. Including that outcome, the Warriors have won three of the last four in this series, but the Clippers have covered three times. In the last four games played at the Staples Center, Los Angeles has gone 3-1 SU (2-2 ATS).

The Warriors have gone 4-1 ATS on the road this season and the lone non-cover came in a nine-point win against the Kings as 14-point favorites.

If you’re looking for the Warriors to come up short, tomorrow could be the night to fade them as they back home to face Chicago at Oracle Arena. The Bulls beat them last season on the road and will bring a four-game winning streak into that game.

The Clippers will without J.J. Redick (back) for Thursday while the Warriors’ Klay Thompson (back) and Shaun Livingston (hip) are listed as ‘questionable.’

            • Preview: Bucks (5-6) at Cavaliers (8-3)

              Date: November 19, 2015 8:00 PM EDT

While the rest of the NBA has presented no problems for the Cleveland Cavaliers, their own division is causing them trouble.

The Cavaliers will try to avoid their third straight loss to a Central opponent Thursday night when the Milwaukee Bucks visit for a second meeting in six days - and possibly with Jabari Parker ready to play.

All three of Cleveland's losses have come within the division, including back-to-back road defeats against the Bucks on Saturday and Detroit on Tuesday. The Cavaliers beat Indiana at home Nov. 8 for their only divisional victory.

Cleveland (8-3) had allowed an average of 93.9 points during an eight-game winning streak before its 108-105 loss to Milwaukee - though it came in double overtime - and a 104-99 defeat against the Pistons.

The Cavs, who had a combined 35 turnovers in the losses, won the Central last season with an 11-5 division mark.

"We are too relaxed and too nice," LeBron James said after the loss in Detroit. "We need to get tougher, but I'm not talking about being an iron man. You have to be mentally tough, and that means performing at the best of your abilities at all times. We've got some guys who do that all the time, and some guys who don't."

James is doing his part, averaging 31.5 points, 6.5 assists and 6.3 rebounds in the last six games while shooting 51.9 percent, including 41.9 from 3-point range.

While James and Kevin Love flourished offensively against the Bucks with 61 combined points on 21-of-45 shooting, their teammates shot 34.8 percent (16 of 46).

The struggles went across the board, but the worst offenders were J.R. Smith (4 of 14) and Mo Williams (2 of 8). Smith eclipsed 50 minutes against the Bucks and has logged nearly 87 in the last two with guards Kyrie Irving (knee) and Iman Shumpert (wrist) out.

The Bucks (5-6) seemed to get a bit healthier against the Cavs with Parker playing just his fifth game of the season, and he posted season highs with 12 points and 30 minutes - a sign that he might be returning to form after having offseason surgery to repair a torn ACL which forced him to miss the final 57 games of his rookie season.

However, a Monday MRI revealed a sprain in his right foot, and he was initially ruled out for Milwaukee's three-game trip. Parker, though, reportedly met up with the Bucks in Cleveland and might play against the Cavs.

"It's not a serious injury," coach Jason Kidd said. "The things that he's done at this point, it's all right for him to be sore. Hopefully he's back sooner than later."

Milwaukee could use him after stumbling through a 115-86 loss at Washington on Tuesday, shooting 43.1 percent while committing 19 turnovers. It was the Bucks' worst loss of the season and third defeat in four games after winning four in a row.

"We're not a secret," Kidd said. "We're not a surprise as last year, and that means teams are going to prepare for you and you can't have any mental breakdowns. For a young team, we're still a long ways away from the mental side of our game being at the level of the best teams in this league."

Cleveland had won four in a row in the series at Quicken Loans Arena before a 96-80 loss Dec. 31 in the most recent meeting there.

              • Preview: Warriors (12-0) at Clippers (6-4)

                Date: November 19, 2015 10:30 PM EDT

The Golden State Warriors' perfect start hasn't faced a much bigger threat than the one presented by the Los Angeles Clippers two weeks ago.

Though the Clippers still have the opportunity to hand the Warriors their first loss, they'll likely be without both starting guards. Chris Paul and J.J. Redick aren't expected to play when these teams meet Thursday night at Staples Center.

The Warriors (12-0) are off to the NBA's best start since Dallas won its first 14 in 2002-03, and picked up another victory Tuesday in a 115-110 home win against Toronto. Stephen Curry scored 37 points, and though Golden State inched closer to the league-best 15-0 start by the 1948-49 Washington Capitals and 1993-94 Houston Rockets, he didn't hesitate to highlight his team's shortcomings.

Golden State was outrebounded, committed 20 turnovers and was 18 of 27 from the free-throw line.

"We hold ourselves to a very high standard," Curry said. "We didn't put any pressure on them defensively in the third quarter, we were sloppy on a couple of possessions offensively and gave them life. Those are things we need to improve on. Everyone likes to learn those lessons in wins."

Curry and company continued to cool off slightly in the second half, getting outscored over the final 24 minutes after leading by 16 at halftime. The Warriors own a plus-4.1 scoring margin in the second half compared to plus-10.6 in the first.

Regardless, they still lead the league in offensive efficiency (110.7) and rank fourth defensively (95.1).

'I think we made the necessary plays we needed to," forward Draymond Green said. 'Obviously, we can close the game out a lot better than we did. It never should have gotten to where it got.'

Curry is averaging a league-best 33.7 points, which would be the NBA's highest mark since Kobe Bryant in 2005-06 (35.4). He has hit five or more 3-pointers in three consecutive games and was 7 of 11 from deep with 31 points in a 112-108 home win over the Clippers on Nov. 4, the Warriors' 11th victory in 16 regular-season meetings. Curry is 41 of 69 (59.5 percent) from long distance over his last 10 in the regular season against Los Angeles.

This season's meeting marks Golden State's smallest margin of victory of 2014-15, while it opened a 2-4 stretch for the Clippers (6-4). Paul suffered a strained groin late in that defeat and has played only twice since, missing Saturday's 101-96 home win against Detroit.

Jamal Crawford scored a season-high 37, joining the starting lineup in place of Redick, who sat out a second straight game due to back spasms. Doc Rivers went with Pablo Prigioni in Redick's place in last Thursday's 118-104 loss at Phoenix, but he was 2 for 6 in 23 minutes and is 2 for 16 on the season.

"We just needed to win," said Crawford, who was 3 for 7 from deep after going 3 for 13 in his previous five games. "I never really lose confidence in myself."

Paul and Redick are listed as doubtful, which figures to continue to put a big offensive burden on Blake Griffin's shoulders. Griffin has been up to the task so far, scoring 34 against the Pistons and averaging 26.6 points per game on 55.8 percent shooting - both career highs.

Los Angeles figures to benefit from its first prolonged break of the season, getting four days off between games after getting no more than two between any of its first 10 contests.

-- Buffalo covered 12 of its last 17 divisional games.

Thursday's List of 13: Doing ome thinking out loud.....

                        13) Mavericks 112, 76ers 85-- Philly is 0-13 after turning ball over 31 times; how does the NBA allow this mess to happen? How does the 76ers' owner not fire the GM who created this debacle? The league should buy out the owner and find someone who actually will try to win-- the current regime is not.

                        12) Providence 60, Illinois 59-- Thanks to the Big East/Big 14 for creating a terrific series of games to start the season. Illini had three shots in last 0:10 to win this, one of which was a putback dunk that somehow rattled out of the hoop. Tough loss for an Illinois squad that has also lost to North Florida already this year.

                        11) There are 11 Division I basketball coaches who have also been head coaches in the NBA; can you name them? (answer tomorrow)

                        10) Notre Dame-Boston College play football at Fenway Park Saturday night; the first sporting event Vin Scully ever broadcast was a Fordham-Boston U football game at Fenway many, many years ago. Always interesting to see how they lay out the football field in a place where football isn't usually played.

                        9) How is Gregg Popovich not in the Basketball Hall of Fame?

                        8) University of North Dakota teams used to be called the Fighting Sioux, until our ridiculously politically correct government made them lose the nickname. As a protest of sorts, the school went several years without a nickname, but finally settled on the Fighting Hawks as their new nickname this week.

                        7) Akron 88, Arkansas 80-- Razorbacks had an awful day, losing in-state recruit to Malik Monk to Kentucky, which could put coach Anderson on the hot seat. Losing at home to a MAC school won't help either.

                        6) One of the refs at Nebraska-Villanova hoop game Tuesday was Gene Steratore, who is better known as an NFL referee on Sundays. Steratore hasn't reffed a Super Bowl game yet; this would be a good year for that.

                        5) Underrated coaching hire of the college football season was North Carolina hiring former Auburn head coach Gene Chizik as their defensive coordinator. Chizik won the national title as Auburn's coach in 2010 (with Cam Newton) but was fired a couple years later by the overly impatient Auburn administration (boosters). Tar Heels are one of the most improved teams in America this season.

                        4) When the NFL put out these new "color rush" uniforms, they had no idea that people who are color blind would have trouble watching them on TV- they are having difficulty telling which player is on which team-- not good.

                        3) Houston Texans signed QB Brandon Weeden, who was cut by Dallas with Tony Romo coming back this week. Looks like Brian Hoyer won't be able to go for the Texans this week, so they needed a backup for TJ Yates, the third QB to start for the Texans this season. Been a rough couple of months for sports in Houston.

                        2) Houston Rockets played in Western Conference finals LY, losing 4-1 to Golden St., but after a 4-7 start this season, they fired coach Kevin McHale Wednesday, in an act of blatant panic. Someone tweeted yesterday not to feel bad for McHale, since the goofy Rockets owe McHale $12M, but why fire a guy this early in the season?

                        1) Tip of the cap to Phil Jackson for drafting Kristaps Porzingis, who is taking New York City by storm in his rookie season. Kid won't be 20 until August.

                          • Friday's Tip Sheet
                            November 20, 2015

                            Knicks at Thunder – (8:05 p.m. ET)

OKC will again be without Kevin Durant, who is nearing a return but will likely miss his fifth consecutive game with a hamstring injury. The Thunder (7-5 SU, 5-7 ATS) is 2-2 without him, riding a Russell Westbrook triple-double to a 110-103 win over New Orleans on Wednesday, but it should be noted that their two wins without Durant have come against the 76ers and Pelicans, teams that enter Friday's action a combined 1-23. OKC is 5-2 at home but have failed to cover in their last two wins at the Peake.

The Knicks (6-6 SU, 8-4 ATS) come in on a two-game win streak are riding the Kristaps Porzingis wave, enjoying their surprising rookie's increasingly confident play. They've also got key offseason acquistion Arron Afflalo into the lineup after he missed the start of the season with a hamstring injury. He went for season-highs in minutes played (36) and points (16) in Tuesday's 102-94 win over Charlotte. This is the first stop on New York's four-game road swing that includes stops in Houston, Miami and Orlando. First-year Thunder head coach Billy Donovan spent his only NBA season with the Knicks ('87-'88) and will be facing them for the first time.

                            Spurs (-8, 208) at Pelicans – (ESPN, 8:05 p.m. ET)

The Pelicans (1-11 SU, 3-9 ATS) list Anthony Davis as questionable for this one with a shoulder injury suffered in Tuesday night's loss to Denver. He's only played one full game in New Orleans' last six contests. The Spurs (9-2 SU, 7-4 ATS) are without key reserve Manu Ginobili (hip tightness) but have won six consecutive games, covering in four of those. They're 4-1 (SU & ATS) in their last five road games, but were just 1-3 against New Orleans last season, with the sole win coming in OT. Davis averaged 25 points and 15.3 rebounds over last year's four meetings, but didn't have to deal with LaMarcus Aldridge.

                            Rockets at Grizzlies (-4.5, 200) – (8:05 p.m. ET)

After abruptly firing Kevin McHale on Wednesday, the Rockets (5-7 SU, 3-9 ATS) looked destined for another loss before an improbable late comeback against Portland that included a a game-tying, running Corey Brewer 3-pointer off one foot to send the game into OT. James Harden finished with 45 points and 11 assists, taking over the extra session to make a winner out of interim head coach J.B. Bickerstaff in his debut. With Dwight Howard set to square off against Marc Gasol in a battle of two of the league's top centers, controlling the paint and and the boards should be crucial here. The Grizzlies (6-6 SU, 5-7 ATS) have won three straight and have been off since Monday's 122-114 win over OKC.

                            Clippers (-3, 212) at Trail Blazers – (10:05 p.m. ET)

Although he was considered 'doubtful' most of Thursday afternoon, Chris Paul suited up for the Clippers (6-5 SU, 4-7 ATS) and helped get them off to a strong start in last night's 124-117 loss to Golden State by going 7-for-7 from the field in the opening quarter. The Clips piled up a 41-25 edge after 12 minutes and Paul wound up with 35 points and eight assists, but they blew a 23-point lead and ultimately failed to even cover 5.5 at home. It remains to be seen if a groin injury that nearly kept Paul out has sufficiently healed enough to play on the second night of a back-to-back.

Head coach Doc Rivers blamed his team blowing a 23-point lead on being unable to sustain intensity for 48 minutes, feeling they let down their energy level. It will be interesting to see how they respond from such a crushing home loss. L.A is 1-1 (SU & ATS) on the second night of back-to-backs thus far. SG J.J. Redick is also questionable with a back injury that has kept him out of the last three contests. Portland (4-9 SU, 6-7 ATS) has dropped seven consecutive games and hasn't won since a Nov. 5 home victory over Memphis.

Five of the seven setbacks have come on the road, so head coach Terry Stotts is hoping home cooking and a day between games will help his team rebound. Damian Lillard is in a nasty slump shooting the 3-pointer, coming in 3-for-24 in his last four games. PF Meyers Leonard (shoulder) has been ruled out and will miss his fifth consecutive game.

                            Bulls at Warriors (-9, 206.5) – (ESPN, 10:35 p.m. ET)

Approaching history since the NBA's longest winning streak to start the season is 15, Golden State (13-0 SU, 8-5 ATS) brings its aura of invincibility back home to Oracle Arena after surviving last night's scare at Staples. Stephen Curry scored 40 points and shot 6-for-14 from 3-point range in L.A., continuing a tear that has seen him average 39.3 points and knock down 24 3-pointers over his last four games. He shot his lowest percentage from beyond the arc against Chicago last season, going 3-for-14 in averaging just 20 points per game against then-coach Tom Thibodeau's defense.

New head coach Fred Hoiberg will get his first look at the defending champs but employed a similar free-flowing philosophy at Iowa State, one of the reason he was so attractive to the Bulls (8-3 SU, 4-7 ATS). Despite this, the 'under' is 8-3 in Chicago games this season and has come in five of the last six times. Derrick Rose has been experiencing double vision due to issues with an orbital bone fracture suffered this preseason and is currently dealing with an ankle injury that kept him out of Wednesday's 103-97 victory in Phoenix. He's considered 'day-to-day'. Chicago has gotten a boost from veteran Kirk Hinrich's return, so look for him to see plenty of Curry. The Bulls have won four straight and are embarked on a four-game road trip of which this is the second leg. JImmy Butler scored a season-high 32 points in the win over the Suns and has averaged 25.3 over the past three games.

                              • Bulls look to upset Warriors
                                November 20, 2015

CHICAGO BULLS (8-3) at GOLDEN STATE WARRIORS (13-0)

                                Sportsbook.ag Line: Golden State -8, Total: 210

The undefeated Warriors try to run their record to 14-0 when they host the red-hot Bulls on Friday night.

Chicago (4-7 ATS) is riding a four-game winning streak, including a 103-97 defeat of Phoenix on Wednesday to open its four-game road trip. Golden State (8-5 ATS) hasn't lost yet this season, but each of the past three victories (1-2 ATS) has been close, with an 8-point win over the Nets, a 5-point victory versus Toronto and a 7-point comeback win at the Clippers on Thursday night.

Although the Warriors are an unbelievable 46-2 SU at home in the past two seasons, one of those defeats was to the Bulls, 113-111 on Jan. 27. However, Golden State is still 12-6 SU (11-6-1 ATS) at home in this series since 1996 and also won at Chicago last December by a 112-102 score.

In terms of betting trends, the Bulls fall into the category of NBA road underdogs of 3.5 to 9.5 points averaging 7.0 or less SPG going 101-53 ATS (66%) over the past five seasons, and their Friday opponent is 1-10 ATS after a combined score of 215+ points in two straight games in the past two seasons. But the Warriors are 39-23 ATS versus winning teams since the start of 2014-15, and are 30-16 ATS when favored by 3.5 to 9.5 points in this same span.

Both teams could have turnover problems as three point guards are all doubtful to play -- Derrick Rose (ankle) and Aaron Brooks (hamstring) for Chicago and Shaun Livingston (hip) for Golden State.

Chicago's offense has been average under new head coach Fred Hoiberg with 101.1 PPG (17th in NBA) on 43.5% FG (18th in league), but has knocked down an impressive 38.1% threes (4th in NBA), which leads the Eastern Conference. For some reason, the Bulls have scored more away from United Center with huge offensive road numbers of 105.6 PPG, 46.9% FG and 43.5% threes.

SG Jimmy Butler (20.4 PPG, 5.2 RPG, 1.8 SPG) is the team's top scorer and has caught fire in the past three games with 25.3 PPG on 49% FG. With PG Derrick Rose (13.6 PPG, 6.0 APG) not likely to play, Butler should take at least 25 shots on Friday. Rose has struggled shooting all season with subpar percentages of 38% FG and 15% threes, which are well below his career averages of 45% FG and 30% threes.

C Pau Gasol (13.8 PPG, 9.6 RPG, 2.1 BPG) has been consistently strong all year and delivered a typical 17 points and eight rebounds in Wednesday's win. PF Nikola Mirotic (11.4 PPG, 6.1 RPG) and SF Doug McDermott (10.5 PPG) round out the double-digit scorers for Chicago. McDermott has been on fire all season at 54% threes, which is better than his 51% FG clip from inside the arc.

Defensively, the Bulls allow just 98.8 PPG (10th in NBA) on a league-best 40.8% FG for the season, and those numbers have improved greatly in the past five games to 95.8 PPG allowed on 38.8% FG. But they haven't faced anybody that can hold a candle to the explosive Warriors.

Golden State is scoring an NBA-best 114.9 PPG on league-high shooting percentages of 48.3% FG and 41.3% threes, which includes a 50.2% FG clip over the past five contests.

PG Stephen Curry continues to be the best scorer on the planet at 34.2 PPG in 35.6 minutes per game. He's making 52% FG and 45% threes, while also contributing 5.8 APG, 5.3 RPG and 2.5 SPG, which ranks third in the league. SG Klay Thompson (16.3 PPG, 3.9 RPG) has started off slow with just one 20-point game in his first 10 contests, but is beginning to heat up with 22.0 PPG on 45% FG over the past two games.

The starting frontcourt of versatile PF Draymond Green (12.5 PPG, 7.8 RPG, 7.1 APG, 1.4 BPG, 1.4 SPG), SF Harrison Barnes (13.5 PPG, 49% FG, 4.9 RPG) and C Festus Ezeli (8.4 PPG, 58% FG, 5.6 RPG, 1.7 BPG) have all played key roles in the success of this unbeaten team. Green had a triple-double of 16 points, 12 assists and 10 rebounds on Saturday and also produced a well-rounded game on Thursday versus the Clippers with 19 points, nine assists and six boards.

The Warriors defense has also been tough this season in limiting teams to a respectable 100.2 PPG (13th in league) on 42.9% FG (8th in NBA) and a pitiful 29.7% threes (best in league).
