Game of the Day: Lakers at Warriors
            ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The Warriors will try to set the NBA record for wins to start a season with 16 in a row tonight when they host the Lakers.

Los Angeles Lakers at Golden State Warriors (-17, 214)

The Golden State Warriors aim to establish an NBA record for consecutive victories to start a season when the woeful Los Angeles Lakers visit on Tuesday. Golden State is off to a 15-0 start to match the mark shared by the 1993-94 Houston Rockets and 1948-49 Washington Capitals.

The defending champions have been superb in the early part of the season and reigning MVP Stephen Curry sees the streak lasting a little while longer. "It's kind of a quiet confidence that we don't feel like we're going to lose anytime soon," Curry said after Sunday's record-tying win over the Denver Nuggets. "The way we're playing - we can get even better." Los Angeles has the worst record in the Western Conference and coach Byron Scott knows it will take a huge effort to spoil Golden State's party. "They're the best team I've seen in the league and it's not close," Scott said after Sunday's loss to the Portland Trail Blazers. "They're the best team I've seen in a while."

            TV: 10:30 p.m. ET, TNT

LINE HISTORY: The Warriors opened as 17.5-point home favorites and have been bet down slightly to sit at -17. Meanwhile, the total has been bet up a point-and-a-half from 212.5 to 214.

            INJURY REPORT:

Lakers - PG D. Russell (probable Tuesday, ankle).

Warriors - SF K. Looney (Late January, hip).

            POWER RANKINGS: Lakers (+2.7) - Warriors (-18) + home court (-3) = Warriors -23.7

WHAT BOOKS SAY: "An absolutely huge game at Oracle tonight. The crowd will be even more rabid than it always is, and the players should have no shortage of motivation. Not a lot of betting interest from the wiseguys, and the public is only gingerly backing Golden State. It's a huge line and most gamblers are scared off spreads of this magnitude. If I were a betting man, I'd be laying the big number. The Warriors might go down in the history books and win by 30."

ABOUT THE LAKERS (2-11, 4-9 ATS, 4-9 O/U): Los Angeles is just 1-6 on the road as it faces a team with 26 consecutive regular-season home victories but Kobe Bryant isn't dismayed. "I've seen stranger things happen," Bryant said after Sunday's loss. "We've been playing like (bleep). We might go up there and we might play like gangbusters up there. You never know." It might take a throwback outing from Bryant to spring the upset but the 37-year-old is shooting just 33.1 percent from the field and 20 percent from 3-point range while averaging 16.3 points.

ABOUT THE WARRIORS (15-0, 10-5 ATS, 7-8 O/U): Curry should be well-rested for this contest after playing just 28 minutes against Denver and scoring a season-low 19 points in the historic win. "It's a huge accomplishment," Curry said. "Obviously, coming off a championship and taking care of business 15 straight times to start the season - couldn't ask for a better start." Shooting guard Klay Thompson had 21 points and seven rebounds against the Nuggets and has recovered from a slow start by averaging 20 points over his last four games.

            TRENDS:

            * Over is 4-0 in the last four meetings.
            * Lakers are 1-4 ATS in the last five meetings in Golden State.
            * Over is 22-6 in the last 28 meetings in Golden State.
            * Favorite is 9-4 ATS in the last 13 meetings.

CONSENSUS: The public is siding with the Warriors in this matchup, with 55 percent of ATS wagers on them. They are also on the under in this game, with 59 percent of wagers on it.

Hassan Whiteside had 11 points and 11 rebounds, and Goran Dragic added 13 points and nine rebounds.

              Thunder 111, Jazz 89

SALT LAKE CITY -- Kevin Durant returned from a hamstring injury and led Oklahoma City's blowout win.

Durant showed no signs of rust after missing the past six games. The superstar scored a game-high 27 points, punishing the Jazz from inside and out.

Durant didn't have as much of a load to carry, but Russell Westbrook continued his strong play with 20 points, nine assists and seven rebounds.

                    • Wednesday's Tip Sheet
                      November 24, 2015

Knicks at Magic – 7:05 PM EST

After starting the season with a spectacular 7-0 ATS run on the road, New York (8-7 SU, 10-5 ATS) suffered its first ATS loss away from Madison Square Garden in Tuesday’s 95-78 setback at Miami. Following back-to-back away underdog victories at Oklahoma City and Houston, the Knicks scored a season-low 78 points on 32% shooting from the floor at Miami as five-point underdogs. Derek Fisher’s club had cashed seven straight games prior to the meltdown in Miami, while the Knicks have allowed less than 100 points in eight of the past 10 contests, resulting in seven ‘unders.’

The magic is gone for Orlando (6-8 SU, 8-6 ATS) from a pointspread perspective after cashing seven straight games to begin the season. Scott Skiles’ squad owns a dreadful 1-6 ATS record the past seven contests following a 117-103 setback at Cleveland on Monday as 8 ½-point road underdogs. Each of the previous four home opponents for the Magic are currently below .500 (Lakers, Jazz, Wolves, Kings), as Orlando has allowed below 100 points in regulation in six of seven home games. The Magic and Knicks split four games last season with each team winning on the road by two points or less.

Heat at Pistons – 7:35 PM EST

Miami (9-4 SU, 7-6) hits the road for only the fourth time this season after completing a 6-1 homestand, capped off by a blowout of New York on Monday. The Heat snapped a four-game ATS skid with a cover against the Knicks, while Miami’s defense has stepped up this season by cashing ‘unders’ in 11 of 13 games. Two of Miami’s three road contests have resulted in losses at Cleveland and Indiana, as Erik Spoelstra’s club lost both visits to the Palace of Auburn Hills last season.

Things have slowed down in the Motor City for the Pistons (7-7 SU, 7-7 ATS) after a 5-1 start, as Stan Van Gundy’s squad has dropped six of their past eight games. Detroit suffered its worst loss of the season on Monday, a 109-88 setback at Milwaukee as three-point road favorites, as the Pistons connected on only 6-of-28 attempts from three-point range. The Pistons have performed well in the underdog role this season, covering six of eight times, including a 3-0 SU/ATS record as a home ‘dog.

Cavaliers at Raptors – 7:35 PM EST

Cleveland (11-3 SU, 6-8 ATS) is rolling atop the East, owning the best record in the conference through nearly the first month of the season. The Cavaliers endured an eight-game ATS skid prior to covering each of their last three contests, double-digit home wins over the Bucks, Hawks, and Magic. Following a 4-1 run to the ‘under’ to begin the season, David Blatt’s team has drilled the ‘over’ in eight of the last nine games with the only ‘under’ hitting on a 203 total against the Knicks.

A five-game West Coast road swing that began with three losses ended with a pair of victories in Los Angeles for Toronto (9-6 SU, 11-4 ATS). The Raptors knocked off the Lakers as 6 ½-point favorites on Friday, 102-91, followed by a 91-80 triumph over the Clippers on Sunday as 6 ½-point underdogs to finish the trip at 4-1 ATS. Dwane Casey’s club has played a road-heavy schedule so far with 10 of the past 12 games taking place away from the Air Canada Center, as the Raptors own a 3-1 SU/ATS record at home.

Mavericks at Spurs – 8:35 PM EST

The top two teams in the Southwest division do battle from San Antonio as the Mavericks (9-6 SU, 9-6 ATS) try to bounce back from Wednesday’s loss at Memphis. Dallas had its six-game winning streak snapped in a 117-114 setback at Oklahoma City as 3 ½-point underdogs, but the Mavs lost their second in a row in last night's 14-point defeat to the Grizzlies. Deron Williams continues to have a resurgent season with Dallas, scoring in double-figures for the 12th time by putting together a 20-point, 6-rebound effort at OKC. The Mavs split their four-game series with the Spurs last season, as the home team won all four matchups.

The Spurs (11-3 SU, 9-5 ATS) hope to get forward LaMarcus Aldridge back in the lineup after missing two games with an ankle injury. San Antonio took care of business without Aldridge, beating Memphis and Phoenix at home by double-digits, as the Spurs have yet to allow more than 98 points in seven home contests. Gregg Popovich’s team has yet to lose at the AT&T Center this season, posting a 7-0 SU and 5-2 ATS record with both ATS losses coming as a favorite of 13 ½ points or more. The Spurs have done their most damage from a pointspread perspective when laying single-digits, covering in six of eight opportunities.

Jazz at Clippers – 10:35 PM EST

There have been plenty of frequent flier miles racked up by Utah (6-7 SU, 7-6 ATS) so far, playing nine of 13 games away from Salt Lake City. The Jazz hit the road for one game before settling in for a four-game homestand starting Saturday against New Orleans. The last home contest didn’t work out so well for Quin Snyder’s bunch, suffering a 111-86 setback to the Thunder on Monday, while allowing OKC to shoot 54% from the floor. Utah has responded well as a road underdog, cashing in four of five opportunities, including outright victories at Indiana and Atlanta.

What is happening in Los Angeles? The Clippers (7-7 SU, 5-9 ATS) stormed out to a 4-0 start, but have lost seven of their past 11 games, including each of their last two at home to the Raptors and Warriors. To make matters worse, the Clips have covered just three in the past 12 trips to the court, including a 2-7 ATS mark the last eight in the favorite role. The Clippers finally got back on track last night with a 111-94 blowout of the Nuggets to cash as seven-point road favorites. Los Angeles has won 13 straight meetings with Utah dating back to 2012, but the Jazz covered three of four matchups with the Clippers last season, including a pair of losses by six points or less at Staples Center.

                      • Armadillo: Wednesday's six-pack

-- Warriors 111, Lakers 77-- How did the Lakers get this bad? Golden State is now 16-0 and appears to be a juggernaut.

-- Marquette 78, Arizona State 73 OT-- Four Sun Devils fouled out.

-- Indiana Hoosiers lost to Wake Forest on Maui Monday; apparently they had a practice after they lost. Way to take the fun out of the trip, coach.

-- Louisiana Tech 82, Ohio State 74-- Buckeyes lost to Tex-Arlington last week.

                        -- Kansas 92, UCLA 73-- Game was 59-33 at the half. 59. to. 33.

-- My favorite two college basketball analysts on TV: Bill Raftery, Doug Gottlieb. ESPN let both of them walk. Not a good move, especially with Gottlieb- Raftery wanted to do Big East games, so he went to FS1 with the Big East.

                        **********

Armadillo: Wednesday's List of 13: Top 8, bottom 5 teams in NFL.......

                        32) Browns-- Johnny Manziel is either the dumbest person on this planet, or angling for a trade to the Cowboys. I'm thinking he'd like to go back to Texas.

                        31) 49ers-- Colin Kaepernick is 27-20 as an NFL starter; he led the Niners to a Super Bowl three years ago, but they're getting rid of him. Seems like once they got their new publicly funded stadium, management stopped caring.

                        30) Chargers-- In last eight games, San Diego started one drive in enemy territory; their opponents started 15. Hard to win that way. They have a QB heading nto his mid-30's and don't know where they'll be playing home games next year.

                        29) Saints-- Allowing 31.5 ppg; already fired their defensive coordinator. Struggling team with an aging star QB, lot like the Chargers.

                        28) Rams-- 25% of the NFL is 4-6; Rams probably aren't the worst of the eight, but their offense is so totally fouled up, despite having two legit weapons in Gurley and Austin. This isn't all Foles' fault; guy had 27 TDs, two INTs two years ago- if you protect him at all and give him a decent tight end, he will be a productive player.

As if this season couldn't get worse, WR Stedman Bailey was shot twice ithis week, in the head and hip; he is currently under a 4-game suspenion, so he was in Florida. Get well soon and stay the hell out of south Florida.

                        8) Seahawks-- Was tempted to put surging Chiefs into this slot, but have feeling that Seattle will play better with the finish line in sight.

                        7) Broncos-- I picked against Denver last week, but Osweiler did just enough to win in Chicago, in his first NFL start; he managed the game well and Chicago was awful in the red zone on offense. Broncos-Patriots this week; should be interesting.

                        6) Vikings-- Mike Zimmer didn't get an NFL head coaching job until he was 58; Bruce Arians didn't get one until he was 60. NFL teams aren't hiring the right people.

                        5) Packers-- Aaron Rodgers is really, really good; amazing that he didn't get a college scholarship out of high school. His coach at Cal, Jeff Tedford was a head coach in the CFL this year but wants to get back in the college game. Someone should hire him.

                        4) Bengals-- Curious to see the reaction Bengals get from the home crowd this week, in a should-win game against the Rams. They booed Andy Dalton at the All-Star Game this summer, at the celebrity softball game. It is a cynical fanbase.

                        3) Cardinals-- I enjoy coach Arians' aggressive approach; they throw the ball down the field and they blitz, even when they're ahead. They play to win the game.

                        2) Panthers-- In the 49 years of the Super Bowl era, 15 teams have been 10-0; nine of those teams made the Super Bowl- they went 6-3 in those games. Carolina does not have great receivers; Newton is making them look better than they are.

                        1) Patriots-- 15 of 32 NFL teams are 5-5 or 4-6; not sure if New England is that good or if the league just stinks. 86 days until pitchers and catchers report. 112 days until the NCAA tournament starts. Don't forget, 2016 is a leap year.

NBA roundup: Warriors set record for best start

OAKLAND, Calif. -- The Golden State Warriors became the first team to start an NBA season 16-0 Tuesday night, blowing out the Los Angeles Lakers basically from the opening tip en route to a 111-77 victory over their California rival.

The 16th consecutive win allowed the Warriors to break a tie with the 1948-49 Washington Capitols and 1993-94 Houston Rockets for best start in league history.

Point guard Stephen Curry poured in 24 points and power forward Draymond Green contributed 18 points, seven rebounds, five assists and two blocked shots in 30 minutes as the Warriors won their 20th straight regular-season game dating back to last April, becoming just the sixth team ever to do so.

Only three teams have won more than 20 NBA games in a row. The Warriors' next target will be the 22 in a row recorded by the Houston Rockets during the 2007-08 season.

The Lakers hold the NBA record for most consecutive wins with 33, set in the 1971-72 season. The Miami Heat won 27 straight in 2012-13.

Lakers star Kobe Bryant was held to four points on 1-for-14 shooting. It was his lowest output of the season, having scored in double figures in each of his previous 10 contests.

                                Pacers 123, Wizards 106

WASHINGTON -- Forward Paul George scored a season-high 40 points as the surging Pacers sank a franchise-record 19 3-pointers in their win.

Forward C.J. Miles established a career high with 32 points and combined with George to dominate from distance. Indiana shot 73.1 percent (19 of 26) from beyond the arc. Miles and George combined to make their first 11 3-point attempts.

Indiana has won nine of its last 11 games, including three straight. The loss ended Washington's three-game winning streak.

Guard Gary Neal scored 23 points and guard Bradley Beal had 20 for the Wizards (6-5).

                                Hawks 121, Celtics 97

ATLANTA -- Forward Paul Millsap led seven Hawks in double figures with 25 points, and point guard Jeff Teague added 16 points and nine assists for Atlanta.

Atlanta (10-6) overcame another big night from red-hot Boston guard Avery Bradley. Bradley scored 25 points to lead the Celtics, and he is averaging 22.4 points in his last five games.

The Hawks took an 81-73 lead into the fourth quarter before forward Mike Scott converted a three-point play off of nice pass from point guard Dennis Schroder to put the Hawks up 11 with nine minutes to play.

                                Grizzlies 110, Mavericks 96

MEMPHIS -- Guard Mike Conley scored 21 points and forward Jeff Green added 19 to lead Memphis, which played its third straight game without forward Zach Randolph, who has a knee injury.

Green, who returned to the starting lineup five games ago, scored eight of his points in the third quarter as the Grizzlies turned a 10-point halftime lead into a 22-point advantage. Memphis led by as many as 25 early in the fourth quarter.

J.J. Barea and Raymond Felton each scored 16 off the bench to lead the Mavericks. Dirk Nowitzki finished with a double-double of 14 points and 10 rebounds.

                                Clippers 111, Nuggets 94

DENVER -- Center DeAndre Jordan had 18 points, 11 rebounds and four blocks, and forward Blake Griffin also had a double-double with 18 points and 10 rebounds to help the Clippers end a three-game losing streak.

Guard Chris Paul had 15 points and 10 assists and guard J.J. Redick had 12 of his 16 points in the first half.

Forward Danilo Gallinari led Denver (6-9) with 20 points and a career-high 18 rebounds, all on the defensive end. Center Nikola Jokic added 16 points.

Guard Jamal Crawford's 3-pointer from halfcourt beat the halftime buzzer to give Los Angeles an 83-72 lead.

                                Bulls 93, Trail Blazers 88

PORTLAND, Ore. -- The Bulls sank six straight free throws over the final 15.9 seconds to close out the road victory.

Guard Jimmy Butler -- who sank the first four of those foul shots -- led Chicago (9-4) with 22 points, while guard Derrick Rose added 17 points and center Pau Gasol collected 12 points and 14 rebounds.
