    Pac-12 Tournament Preview

    March 9, 2015

    March 11-14
All games played at MGM Grand Arena, Las Vegas, NV

    TECH NOTES:
-- Dogs of < 8 pts are 12-4 ATS vs opp off BB SU wins
-- Favorites are 4-1 ATS off 3+ SU losses
-- DD favorites are 6-1 ATS off SUATS win
-- #1 seeds are 6-1 ATS vs opp off SU dog win
    -- #2 seed dogs are 5-1 ATS L6
    -- #3 seeds are 1-5 ATS w/revenge
-- #4 seeds are 0-4 ATS vs opp off BB SU losses
-- #5 seeds off BB SU losses are 4-0 ATS
    -- #10 seeds are 2-8 SUATS L10

PROJECTED FINAL FOUR: ARIZONA, UTAH, OREGON, UCLA

THE WAY WE SEE IT: After being gutted by the NBA in last year’s draft when nine Pac-12 players were taken – including six in the first round – the conference was left with only six teams returning 3 or more starters this season. In the end, ARIZONA showed the most muscle as it crushed quality opponents, winning all nine contests against .750 or greater foes. Keep that in mind when the Big Dance rolls around. A loss to UCLA in the title game last year was the 4th straight championship loss for the Wildcats in this tourney. A Top 10 offensive field goal percentage and rebound margin team this year, the Cats will be on a mission...

The blue-collar crew from UTAH asserted itself when it finished in the Top 10 in offensive and defensive field goal percentage – the only team in the land to make that claim. As a result, the Utes were a money-making machine in the process, going 14-3 ATS versus sub .700 foes. That makes them a hard fade in this tourney...

OREGON managed to escape the brutal mountain trip to Colorado and Utah this season and it paid off with Joseph Young leading the Ducks to a 23-win campaign. Despite bowing out to UCLA in the first round of this tourney last season, Oregon still owns a shimmering 17-9 SUATS all-time mark in this event, including a championship two seasons ago...

While seven different teams have managed to win this tourney in its 12-year history, UCLA managed to capture its 3rd crown last year. The Bruins have been money in the bank in this event when playing off a double-digit spread win (6-0 ATS) and also own a sharp 5-2 SUATS mark versus sub .550 opposition.

    THE SLEEPER: CALIFORNIA
After hitting an 0-6 wall early in January, the Bears showed resiliency by bouncing back with 5 straight wins. A 21-win team last year with a winning record away form home, look for Cal to makes amends for a pair of one-and-outs the last two years in this tourney. The Bears should claw their way into the 20-win club in this tourney behind a coach (Cuonzo Martin) that is 16-7 ATS in his career as a dog in games off a win.

KEY TOURNEY BEST BET: PLAY ON THE UNDERDOG IN THE CHAMPIONSHIP GAME
When UCLA tripped up top seed Arizona in the title game last season, it improved the record of the dog in Pac-12 championship games to 7-1 ATS the last eight years. If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it – and we’re not about to.

      SEC Tournament Preview

      March 9, 2015

      March 11-15
All games played at Bridgestone Arena, Nashville, TN

      TECH NOTES:
-- Favorites are 48-24-1 ATS off SU loss, 17-7-1 ATS off DD SU loss and 8-2 ATS as favorites of 16 > points
-- Dogs of > 7 pts w/revenge off a SU dog win are 12-28-1 ATS
-- Teams w/same-season single revenge are 14-4 ATS off a SU favorite loss
-- #1 seeds are 8-1 ATS off a SU loss
-- #2 seeds are 6-1 ATS as DD favorites
-- #4 seeds are 5-17-1 ATS as dogs < 8 points and 5-0 ATS as DD dogs
-- #5 seeds are 1-7 ATS as DD dogs
-- #6 seeds are 1-7 ATS off a DD ATS win

PROJECTED FINAL FOUR: KENTUCKY, ARKANSAS, MISSISSIPPI, LSU

THE WAY WE SEE IT:Unlike last year when KENTUCKY took a bunch of pimply-faced freshmen into this event, John Calipari somehow managed to convince the kids to stick around and write NCAA history rather than taking the money and running off to the NBA. Rest assured, this is not the same team that dropped out of the rankings last year and carried 10 losses into the Big Dance. In fact, it would be a shocker if they were not to enter this year’s NCAA tourney 34-0. A loss to Florida in the title game last year dropped the Wildcats’ record to 48-11 SU and 38-19-2 ATS in this tourney since 1992. We’re not about to step in front of that, not with a coach that is 32-1 SU and 18-15 ATS as a No. 1 seed in conference tournament play in his career...

ARKANSAS outplayed the preseason prognosticators who had them tabbed in the 4th slot in the SEC this season. As a result, the Razorbacks will likely head to the NCAA Tournament for the first time since 2008. A perfect 13-0 SU slate at press time versus non-winning foes did the trick. The Hogs may be in jeopardy, though, should they not overcome an 0-7 SU and 1-6 ATS SEC tourney losing skid...

Despite a season-ending slide, MISSISSIPPI cracked the 20-win plateau behind a group of Rebels that learned to win games away from home this season, going 10-4 SU and 12-2 ATS. Though they take a 6-2 SUATS record in their last eight SEC tourney games into this affair, they will need to overcome a poor 4-13 SUATS mark in this event versus greater-than .666 foes if they wish to play on Sunday...

Arguably the hottest spread team entering this tourney, LSU excelled in games versus winning opponents this season, going 11-4 SU and 10-4-1 ATS, including 6-1 ATS as a dog, at press time. The Tigers have also cashed in 6 of their last 8 games in this fray and should be considered dangerous.

      THE SLEEPER: GEORGIA
The Bulldogs woke up at just the right time, catching fire for the stretch run of the season. A 17-9-2 ATS conference spread record, including 7-1-1 ATS as a dog, fits their moniker. As does a 9-2 SU and 8-3 ATS record in this event versus sub .530 opponents. A win or two here would not surprise.

KEY TOURNEY BEST BET: PLAY ON KENTUCKY IN THE SEMI OR FINAL ROUND
As alluded to above, John Calipari has dominated in conference tourney play, especially in Semi and Final round games where his teams smell the blood, going 25-5 SU and 22-8 ATS, including 24-1 SU and 19-7 ATS as favorites. Enough said.

        Sun Belt Tournament Preview

        March 9, 2015

        March 12-15
All games played at Lakefront Arena, New Orleans, LA

        TECH NOTES:
-- DD favorites are 5-0 ATS vs opp off BB SUATS wins…
-- Teams off a SU dog win are 8-2 ATS vs opp off BB SU losses
-- Dogs 5 > pts are 3-14 ATS off BB SUATS wins
        -- #1 seeds are 4-0 ATS as dogs and 6-1 ATS w/revenge
-- #2 seeds are 7-1 ATS off a SU loss… #3 seeds are 12-28 ATS (3-12 ATS as pick or dog)
-- #4 seeds are 5-15 ATS off DD SU win
        -- #5 seeds are 17-3 ATS as dogs 2 > pts
-- #9 seeds or lower are 7-0 ATS vs opp off BB SU losses and 1-6 ATS off BB SU wins.

PROJECTED FINAL FOUR: GEORGIA STATE, GEORGIA SOUTHERN, LA MONROE, LA-LAFAYETTE

THE WAY WE SEE IT: GEORGIA STATE was the class of their new league last year before bowing out in overtime in the title game. Head coach Ron Hunter owns the best backcourt in the loop, led by his soon-to-be NBA 6’6” junior wing R.J. Hunter. The gym rat teams with Louisville transfer Kevin Ware and former Kentucky PG Ryan Harrow to form a lethal combination. A 19-2 SU mark versus sub .666 foes this season likely puts them in the title game again this year...

A 15-win team last season, GEORGIA SOUTHERN was the surprise team in the Sun Belt this campaign. Slotted to finish 7th in the league, the Eagles flew well past those expectations while compiling a mighty 7-1 ATS mark as dogs in the process. Led by 6’2” senior combo G Jelani Hewitt, GSU will be a tough out in this tourney...

Like Georgia Southern, LA-MONROE was an overachiever this season as well. A sluggish 5-6 start was immediately overcome once the Warhawks entered league play where ULM caught fire. Despite dropping each of its last four tourney games, Monroe brings a 5-3-1 ATS overall tourney mark into these wars...

LA-LAFAYETTE returns as the defending champs and appears to be catching fire at just the right time with four straight wins at press time. Interestingly, the Cajuns were just 1-7 SU and 1-6-1 ATS in conference tourney play before lifting off last season. Keep an eye on 6’9” junior F Shawn Long, a likely 1st round pick in this year’s NBA draft. Home cooking should benefit both of the Louisiana contingents.

        THE SLEEPER: TEXAS ARLINGTON
The Mavericks made their debut in the Sun Belt last season and have not disappointed. Rest assured, they will be performing in a minor postseason tourney after this affair. Head coach Scott Cross – the only coach in Arlington history with a winning record – took UTA to the NCAA Tournament in 2008. A win or two here would be no surprise.

KEY TOURNEY BEST BET: GEORGIA STATE OVER LA-LAFAYETTE
After taking the Sun Belt by storm last season, the Panthers were denied a trip to the NCAA Tournament when they lost, 82-81, in overtime to Lafayette in the conference championship game. “Those guys were really hurt by what happened,” head coach Ron Hunter opined afterwards. You know what they say about paybacks. .

          Armadillo: Thursday's six-pack

-- Stanford 71, Washington 69-- Huskies didn't score in last 3:25 of game.

-- USC 67, Arizona State 64-- ASU led by 14 with 8:20 left.

          -- TCU 67, K-State 65-- Horned Frogs' first-ever win in Big X tournament.

-- FIU 57, Tex-San Antonio 54-- Kid banked in a 45-footer at buzzer for the win.

-- Air Force 68, New Mexico 61-- Lobos lost nine of their last ten games.

-- Penn State 68, Nebraska 65-- Cornhuskers lost their last nine games.

          **********

Armadillo: Thursday's List of 13: Today is best colllege hoop day of the year

          13) 51 college basketball games today, all tournament games; lot on the line. This is the best full day of the college basketball season. Friday night's card will be the best half-day of the season, with ton of tournament semi-final games.

          12) UNLV 67, Nevada 46-- Wolf Pack fired coach David Carter before the fans at this game got thru the buffet at their hotels.

          11) Florida State 76, Clemson 73-- Tigers have been in the ACC since it started up in 1953 but have never won this tournament.

          10) People are clamoring for Murray State to be in the NCAAs because they went thru their league unbeaten before losing by a point in the tournament final, but fact of the matter is their league isn't very good.

Racers got pounded back in November by Xavier and Valparaiso and lost to Portland, Houston, two mediocre teams. They have no great out of conference wins, which meant they would have to win the OVC tourney to get it and they didn't. Just the way it is; it is unfair that lot of "money teams" won't schedule Murray State because they know there's a good chance they'll lose, but they have to find tougher games somehow, and then they have to play better in those games.

          9) Colorado Rockies had a split squad Tuesday; half the squad faced the Dodgers and Clayton Kershaw, the other half Felix Hernandez. Bad scheduling there.

          8) In a perfect world, a banked-in 3-point basket wound count as two points, not three. There are zero people on this planet who try to bank 3-pointers.

          7) Kentucky and Florida State are the two tallest college basketball teams.

          6) Friend of mine was headed to Las Vegas for the Kentucky Derby, but because it is the same night as the Mayweather fight, Harrah's wanted $500 for Saturday night, so my friend pushed his trip back a week. Smart man.

          5) ACC tournament will be played in Brooklyn in 2017 and 2018, even though no ACC teams are in the New York City area. None.

          4) Central Florida leads the country in a weird stat; teams are shooting 61.5% from the foul line against the Knights this season, the lowest percentage against any team.

          3) I still can't figure out why any baseball player would bat right-handed. If you bat lefty you're a few steps closer to first base. What advantage is there to batting righty?

          2) Jets traded for Ryan Fitzpatrick, who is a big upgrade over Geno Smith, even though he didn't get a football scholarship in college (he played at Harvard).

          1) Will Ferrell is playing in some baseball exhibition games today, an inning for each team in four or five different games all over Arizona. He will play every position over the course of the day, raising money for charity. He is 47 years old; am curious what this is going to look like. I'm sure his helicopter pilot will bave good stories.

See spot. See spot bet: This week's best spot bet opportunities

            Letdown spot

The Vanderbilt Commodores went through a lot in the final month of the SEC schedule. Vandy climbed out of the conference basement with an 8-2 SU and ATS run to close out the year, including notable wins over Ole Miss, Alabama, Tennessee and Florida, and earned the No. 7 seed in the SEC tournament. The Commodores also absorbed a sideline scandal when head coach Kevin Stallings was recorded ripping into freshman Wade Baldwin following the win against the Vols, telling Baldwon "I'm going to f-ing kill you!" after he clapped in the face of a Tennessee player.

Vanderbilt meets none other than the Volunteers in its opening game of the SEC tournament Thursday – which is sure to be a sore spot with UT. The Commodores may have peaked a little too soon and could be sitting a little fat and happy with their turnaround to end the year. The Vols edges Vandy in overtime in their first meeting of the season, so this 4.5-point spread may be a touch optimistic.

            Lookahead spot

The Pittsburgh Penguins weren’t supposed to be wallowing in the middle of the Eastern Conference come March. The high-powered Pens have fallen off the pace in the playoff race, sitting in the No. 5 spot after splitting games on a recent four-game Western road trip. Pittsburgh has what should be a “gimmie” against the Edmonton Oilers Thursday, but the upcoming calendar could have the Penguins’ focus elsewhere.

The Oilers open a three-game home stand for Pittsburgh, which welcomes the Boston Bruins – who sit eighth in the conference – and Detroit Red Wings – who are just one point behind the Pens in the No. 6 spot. The Penguins could get caught looking ahead to those Saturday and Sunday games against fellow postseason clubs, opening the door for Edmonton, which has two full days off to prepare for Pittsburgh.

            Schedule spot

Are the Atlanta Hawks real NBA title contenders or are they about to turn into a pumpkin when the clock strikes 12 with a challenging Western Conference road trip? Atlanta opens a six-game non-conference swing in Denver Wednesday, then travels to Phoenix, Los Angeles, Sacramento, Golden State and Oklahoma City.

That’s a string of six away games in nine days for the Hawks, who have won seven of their last eight overall heading into Wednesday - five of those victories coming at home. Atlanta is a solid 18-4 SU versus Western Conference opponents, going 16-6 ATS in those non-conference games.

AAC tournament Round 1: NCAAB betting cheat sheet
                    ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

UCF Knights vs. East Carolina Pirates (-3)

The league's top freshmen scorers will meet when UCF battles East Carolina in the opening round of the American Athletic Conference tournament at the XL Center in Hartford, Conn., on Thursday. Pirates freshman B.J. Tyson and Knights freshman B.J. Taylor lead their teams - and all AAC freshmen - in scoring at 12.5 points each while UCF's Adonys Henriquez adds 10.6 points. The ninth-seeded Knights, who enter the postseason on a four-game skid, lost both meetings to the eighth-seeded Pirates.

The teams rank near the top of the league in 3-point shooting - UCF at 34.8 percent and East Carolina at 34.7 - but the Pirates were third in defending the arc, holding teams to 30.9 percent. The Knights struggled to slow opponents, allowing a league-worst 71.4 points and giving up at least 75 points 10 times. The winner advances to play top-seeded SMU, who beat both teams during the regular season.

                    TRENDS:

*Knights are 0-4 ATS in their last 4 games overall.
*Over is 5-1-1 in Pirates last 7 overall.
*Favorite is 4-1 ATS in the last 5 meetings.
*Under is 5-1 in Knights last 6 neutral site games.

Houston Cougars vs. Tulane Green Wave (-1)

First-year coach Kelvin Sampson knows his Houston team is playing its best basketball as it enters Thursday's first round of the American Athletic Conference tournament at the XL Center in Hartford, Conn., against seventh-seeded Tulane. A three-game win streak - including a 68-63 overtime victory at Tulane - has given the 10th-seeded Cougars encouragement for the future. "I wish we could start the season now," Sampson said after Saturday's regular-season finale. "I promise you our record wouldn't be 12-18. It's not like we felt we were going to make the (NCAA) Tournament. My goal as a head coach coming into a new program ... was to establish a culture and establish an identity."

That new identity includes playing tough despite injuries and departures that have left the Cougars with seven scholarship players for the tournament. Tulane won the first meeting in Houston 68-65 in mid-January but averaged 54.1 points during a 2-10 stretch that followed. The winner plays second-seeded Tulsa, which swept both during the regular season.

                    TRENDS:

*Cougars are 4-0 ATS in their last 4 games overall.
*Green Wave are 1-7 ATS in their last 8 neutral site games.
*Over is 12-3-1 in Cougars last 16 games following a ATS win.
*Under is 36-16 in Green Wave last 52 overall.

USF Bulls vs. UConn Huskies (-14)

Defending national champion Connecticut has the American Athletic Conference's top scorer and a home-court advantage as it opens the league tournament against USF on Thursday at the XL Center in Hartford, Conn. The Huskies went 6-1 at the XC Center - including a 4-1 record against the AAC - on the way to a sixth-place finish. Senior Ryan Boatright leads the league with 17.8 points while the 11th-seeded Bulls have the nation's youngest roster.

The Bulls finished the regular season losing 14 of 16, including a pair of losses to the Huskies by a combined 27 points. They've been without leading scorer Corey Allen Jr. (NCAA suspension) for the past three games but freshman Troy Holston Jr. has stepped in to fill the void. UConn leads the series 14-2 and the winner faces third-seeded Cincinnati.

                    TRENDS:

*Huskies are 2-9 ATS in their last 11 games following a ATS loss.
*Over is 5-0 in Bulls last 5 road games.
*Bulls are 9-2 ATS in the last 11 meetings.
*Under is 5-0 in the last 5 meetings.

                      Armadillo: Friday's six-pack

-- Braves manager Fredi Gonzalez got thrown out of an exhibition game last night after one pitch, a pitch called a ball. Never saw that before.

-- I'm surprised Utah State is passing on the NIT, CBI or CIT; they've got a young team that is pretty good. Stew Morrill is retiring; not really sure why.

-- CIT already has one first round matchup: New Hampshire vs NJIT. Not exactly Duke-Carolina, but I'm sure they're excited about making the postseason.

-- Cavaliers 128, Spurs 125, OT-- Kyrie Irving scored 57 points for Cleveland.

-- Irving played one year at Duke, but never played in an ACC game; he got hurt in pre-conference play and never came back until the NCAA tournament.

-- There are two bowling alleys in the White House; do they have to rent shoes?

                      **********

Armadillo: Friday's List of 13: Wrapping up a college hoop Thursday

                      13) AAC
-- East Carolina 81, Central Florida 80 OT-- Jeff Lebo got on TV a lot when he played at North Carolina; his Pirates get a rare national TV shot today.

Was told Thursday that if UConn doesn't get in a Power 5 football conference, they will drop football and concentrate on basketball as a revenue sport.

                      12) ACC
-- Notre Dame 70, Miami 63-- Irish blew 18-point halftime lead, still won.
-- North Carolina 70, Louisville 60-- Cardinals first conference tourney loss since '11.

                      11) A-14
-- VCU 63, Fordham 57-- VCU isn't a very good team without injured star Weber; they play crosstown rival Richmond today. Spiders beat them twice already. .

                      10) Big X
-- Iowa State 69, Texas 67-- Cyclones scored last 12 points of game, led for only one second-- the last second. This game could cost Texas an NCAA bid.
-- Kansas 64, TCU 59-- Horned Frogs are fighting a tremendous uphill battle in this league; refs made sure they lost this game late. Kansas is banged up.
-- Baylor 80, West Virginia 70-- Bears are my sleeper team to make Final Four.

                      9) Big 14
-- Penn State 67, Iowa 58-- Hawkeyes had won six games in a row.
-- Michigan 73, Illinois 55-- Wolverines had lost seven of last nine games.

                      8) Big Sky
-- Top four seeds all advanced, but host Montana needed OT to win.
-- Idaho hit 10-18 on arc, still didn't cover as a 7-point underdog (lost 81-73).

                      7) Big West
-- Long Beach State started four seniors but got smoked by Hawai'i; Long Beach seemed OK with their college careers ending. Hawai'i totally outhustled them.

                      6) C-USA
-- UAB 53, Western Kentucky 52-- League's accountants breathe a sigh of relief, since tournament is in Birmingham. Will be lot of empty seats if Blazers lose.
-- Middle Tennessee 59, Old Dominion 52-- Favored Monarchs were 8-19 on foul line.

                      5) MAC
-- Akron 53, Kent 51-- Zips avenged last week's 79-77 loss to Kent; not sure why this league doesn't get more exposure on ESPN.

                      4) Mountain West
-- San Diego State 67, UNLV 64-- Pretty sure this was 10th game this year that the Rebels lost after leading at halftime; thats a lot of games to lose that way.
-- Wyoming 67, Utah State 65-- End of line for Utah State's fine coach Stew Morrill.

                      3) Pac-12
-- All four top seeds advanced; Oregon and Utah had dominant second halves.
-- I heard Ben Howland doing the A-14 tournament tonight; how has he not gotten another head coaching job? He had UCLA in Final Four three times.

                      2) SEC
-- South Carolina 60, Ole Miss 58-- Never foul a jump shooter. Never foul a jump shooter. Never foul a jump shooter. Never foul a jump shooter. Never foul a jump shooter. Never foul a jump shooter. Never foul a jump shooter. Never foul a jump shooter. Never foul a jump shooter. Never foul a jump shooter.

These teams both did it in the last 0:05 of a brickfest where both teams shot under 31% for the game. Ole Miss has made themselves a bubble team.

                      1) Sun Belt-- When ESPN first started, this league was the first one to let them show a lot of games. Now they never get games on TV; nice gratitude there. Both underdogs won quarterfinal games on Thursday. The league kingpins play the winners today.

Temple Owls vs. Memphis Tigers (+3)

Temple coach Fran Dunphy isn't worried about bubbles or milestones when his Owls take on Memphis in Friday's quarterfinals of the American Athletic Conference tournament at the XL Center in Hartford, Conn. "We're just thinking about winning one in a row," Dunphy, the AAC's Coach of the Year, told Philadelphia's CBS. "If we can get that done, we'll feel good and we'll move on to the next assignment." The fourth-ranked Owls beat the fifth-ranked Tigers 61-60 in their only meeting on Josh Brown's bank shot with 2.4 left.

The teams each averaged a league-best 7.1 steals and the Owls are third in scoring defense at 59.9 points. They are the top two teams - Memphis at 29.9 percent and Temple at 30.8 percent - at defending the 3-pointer. Memphis is still without leading scorer Austin Nichols (ankle) but Shaq Goodwin has been on a hot streak in his place.

East Carolina Pirates vs. Southern Methodist Mustangs (-14.5)

SMU didn't want to take any chances after narrowly missing the NCAA Tournament last season. "(The snub has) been in the back of our minds every day," guard Nic Moore said after the Mustangs won the regular-season title Sunday. "We knew what we needed to do this year to make it in. We had to take it this year instead of letting people decide where we go." The No. 21 Mustangs have won six of seven heading into Friday's American Athletic Conference quarterfinals against eighth-seeded East Carolina in Hartford, Conn.

Moore leads the league's top offensive team in scoring and was named the AAC Player of the Year after helping SMU win its first conference title since 1993 - also the last time the Mustangs went to the NCAA Tournament. The Pirates, who survived overtime against UCF in the opening round, lost their only meeting with SMU by 23 points in January. Freshman B.J. Tyson leads East Carolina with 12.7 points off the bench.

Tulsa Golden Hurricanes vs. Houston Cougars (+10)

Tulsa knows it needs a big week in the American Athletic Conference tournament at Hartford, Conn. - starting with Friday's quarterfinals against 10th-seeded Houston - to make the NCAA Tournament. The second-seeded Golden Hurricane lost their last two regular-season games - both of which could have earned a regular-season title and strengthen their resume - after starting league play with 10 straight wins. "Those two losses kind of set us back, but I feel like we can learn from them and still make our way forward as a team," point guard Shaquille Harrison told the Tulsa World. "I don't think our confidence is down."

Harrison and James Woodard - who hit a league-record 10 3-pointers in Sunday's loss to AAC champ SMU - make up one of the best guard tandems in the conference. Houston has won four in a row and got big games from Jherrod Stiggers and Cavon Baker to edge Tulane 66-60 on Thursday. Tulsa swept the Cougars during the regular season, winning by a combined 31 points.

                            TRENDS:

*Cougars are 5-0 ATS in their last 5 games overall.
*Golden Hurricane are 1-3-1 ATS in their last 5 games following a S.U. loss.
*Over is 13-3-1 in Cougars last 17 games following a ATS win.
*Favorite is 4-1 ATS in the last 5 meetings.

Cincinnati Bearcats vs. UConn Huskies (+2.5)

Cincinnati played the last few weeks of the regular season like they were all must-win games and the third-seeded Bearcats will continue to do that when they face Connecticut on Friday in the quarterfinals of the American Athletic Conference tournament at the XL Center in Hartford, Conn. "Every game we've played recently is like a tournament game," forward Octavius Ellis told the Cincinnati Enquirer. The Bearcats have won five straight and seem a lock for the NCAA Tournament, but more victories would improve their seeding.

The sixth-seeded Huskies tied a season-high with 11 3-pointers in Thursday's 69-43 victory over USF in the first round. The Huskies feature the AAC's leading scorer in Ryan Boatright, Rookie of the Year in Daniel Hamilton and top defender in Amida Brimah. The teams split their regular season meetings, both coming in January.

                            TRENDS:

*Bearcats are 5-0 ATS in their last 5 vs. American Athletic Conference.
*Over is 7-1 in Huskies last 8 games vs. a team with a winning % above .600.
*Under is 4-0 in Bearcats last 4 neutral site games.
*Huskies are 6-1 ATS in the last 7 meetings.

Michigan Wolverines vs. Wisconsin Badgers (-14)

Wisconsin capped its historic regular season with its first league crown since 2008, when it also claimed its last conference tournament title. The fifth-ranked and top-seeded Badgers begin the process of turning the trick again Friday in Chicago as they face ninth-seeded Michigan in the quarterfinals of the Big Ten tournament. Wisconsin won 16 of its 18 conference outings, finishing two games ahead of Maryland while also matching the best record it has posted in 98 years in the Big Ten.

Despite clinching at least a share of the league title a week earlier at home against Michigan State, the Badgers closed out the regular season emphatically, routing Ohio State on the road 72-48 and sending the Buckeyes to their most lopsided loss of the season. The Wolverines, who lost in overtime at home to Wisconsin on Jan. 24, suffered through a 1-7 stretch as they adjusted to new personnel after losing two of their top three scorers in Caris LeVert and Derrick Walton Jr. Michigan ended its losing ways with a win over Rutgers in the regular-season finale before ousting No. 8 seed Illinois 73-55 in the second round on Thursday.

                              TRENDS:

*Wolverines are 4-1 ATS in their last 5 games following a S.U. win.
*Under is 7-1 in Badgers last 8 games following a S.U. win.
*Over is 7-3 in Wolverines last 10 overall.
*Underdog is 11-1 ATS in the last 12 meetings.

Penn St. Nittany Lions vs. Purdue Boilermakers (-5.5)

Despite finishing in a three-way tie for third in the ultra-competitive Big Ten and snagging a No. 4 seed in the conference tournament, Purdue cannot take an invite to the Big Dance for granted quite yet. The Boilermakers can help their cause in Chicago, however, beginning with a win over No. 13 seed Penn State in the Big Ten tournament quarterfinals. Purdue got off to an uneven 11-8 start – including home losses to Gardner-Webb and North Florida – before going 9-3 the rest of the way.

The Boilermakers, who have lost three straight conference tournament games, started generating momentum for their strong close to the season two games earlier, surviving a career-high 37 points from Big Ten leading scorer D.J. Newbill en route to an 84-77 overtime road win against the Nittany Lions in mid-January. Penn State endured two six-game losing streaks during league play after going 12-1 in non-conference action, but appears to be finding its early-season groove at the right time. The Nittany Lions dispatched fifth-seeded Iowa 67-58 on Thursday, moving into the Big Ten quarterfinals for the first time since a runner-up finish in 2011.

                              TRENDS:

*Nittany Lions are 6-1 ATS in their last 7 games following a S.U. win.
*Boilermakers are 19-7 ATS in their last 26 games overall.
*Under is 7-1 in Nittany Lions last 8 games following a ATS win.
*Over is 4-0 in Boilermakers last 4 neutral site games.

Indiana Hoosiers vs. Maryland Terrapins (-2)

Maryland made a habit of winning tight games in its inaugural season as a member of the Big Ten. One of the its many victims in those contests was Indiana, which will try to put a stop to the eighth-ranked Terrapins’ seven-game winning streak Friday at the Big Ten tournament quarterfinals in Chicago. Second-seeded Maryland went 12-4 to finish two games behind conference champion Wisconsin, claiming victories in all eight league games decided by six or fewer points.

The Terrapins walked a fine line yet again in Sunday’s 64-61 road victory over Nebraska, dodging a potential game-tying 3-point attempt in the final seconds en route to a school-record 26th regular-season triumph. The seventh-seeded Hoosiers split a pair of regular-season matchups with Maryland, sending the Terrapins to their second-most lopsided loss of the season (89-70) in Bloomington on Jan. 22 before falling 68-66 in College Park on Feb. 11. Indiana stumbled at the end of the regular season with three straight losses, but had little problem defeating No. 10 seed Northwestern 71-56 on Thursday in the second round.

                              TRENDS:

*Hoosiers are 11-23-2 ATS in their last 36 neutral site games.
*Terrapins are 4-0 ATS in their last 4 games overall.
*Over is 20-8 in Hoosiers last 28 overall.
*Favorite is 4-1 ATS in the last 5 meetings.

Ohio St. Buckeyes vs. Michigan State Spartans (+1.5)

Michigan State has seemingly found itself following an up-and-down beginning to the season, culminating in the school’s third No. 3 seed in the Big Ten tournament in as many years. The Spartans begin their quest for a third conference championship title in four years Friday in Chicago when they meet No. 6 seed Ohio State in the quarterfinals. Michigan State was unable to gain a marquee win in non-conference action and suffered surprising losses to Texas Southern and Nebraska during a 13-7 start, but finished the regular season by winning eight of 11.

"I think we have gotten more consistent in the last eight games, I really do … and I think we've got a little better rotation down and that will help some. What better time to come together than now, and we'll see what we can do,” coach Tom Izzo told the Detroit Free Press. In what can only be considered a bit of irony, the Buckeyes had their hearts broken on Valentine’s Day against the Spartans as Denzel Valentine hit the game-winning 3-pointer with 3.2 seconds left to send Michigan State to a 59-56 victory. Ohio State has won four of its last five, however, and made Thad Matta the winningest coach in school history Thursday with a 79-73 victory over Minnesota.

                              TRENDS:

*Buckeyes are 2-9 ATS in their last 11 neutral site games.
*Spartans are 4-1 ATS in their last 5 games following a S.U. win.
*Under is 6-0 in Buckeyes last 6 games following a ATS win.
*Over is 4-0 in Spartans last 4 vs. Big Ten.

Florida Gator vs. Kentucky Wildcats (-13.5)

So far, so good for top-ranked Kentucky, but the undefeated Wildcats are entering their most demanding stretch of the season beginning with Friday’s SEC tournament quarterfinal against eighth-seeded Florida in Nashville. A championship run through the SEC tourney could mean a stretch of five games in nine days for Kentucky, which hasn’t lost since last season’s national championship contest. “It's just tough when you have three games in three days,” Kentucky assistant coach John Robic said at a team news conference earlier this week. “And then (we’d) turn right back around and most likely play Thursday.”

Florida, meanwhile, knows what the Wildcats are going through after capping an undefeated SEC regular-season run with a conference tourney championship only a season ago. This year, though, the Gators are sitting at .500 after ousting Alabama 69-61 Thursday in the second round and will get their third shot at Kentucky following a pair of regular-season setbacks – the last one coming this past Saturday in Lexington. “I think we're the only team so far that will have played them three times this year, so at least there's some familiarity on a quick turnaround,” Florida coach Billy Donovan said in his postgame news conference Thursday. “… We’ll try to do some different things – not so much differently, but try to do things better.”

                                TRENDS:

*Gators are 0-5 ATS in their last 5 games following a ATS win.
*Wildcats are 9-1-1 ATS in their last 11 neutral site games.
*Over is 4-1 in Wildcats last 5 vs. Southeastern.
*Under is 8-3 in the last 11 meetings.

Auburn Tigers vs. LSU Tigers (-9.5)

For the third time in 30 years – and the first time since 2000 – Auburn has won consecutive SEC tournament games after the 13th-seeded Tigers upended 12th-seeded Mississippi State and fifth-seeded Texas A&M. Up next is a Friday afternoon quarterfinal date against fourth seed LSU in Nashville. “This becomes the third team in 30 years of Auburn basketball history to win a couple games and advance in the tournament,” first-year Auburn coach Bruce Pearl said at his news conference Thursday following the 66-59 win over the Aggies. “Now maybe that's not something that you want to brag about, but those are the facts. And those facts matter to these guys right here.”

LSU, meanwhile, won three of its final four regular-season contests to earn a double-bye. Still, coach Johnny Jones’ squad needs the win as it still sits too close for comfort to the edge of the NCAA Tournament bubble. “Our job is to try to go out and hopefully win this tournament,” Jones said at a Thursday news conference. “That means trying to cut down nets on Sunday, so whether it is Auburn or the No. 1-ranked team in Kentucky, that’s the mission we are on.”

                                TRENDS:

*Auburn is 4-0 ATS in their last 4 games overall.
*Under is 18-5 in LSU's last 23 neutral site games.
*Underdog is 6-2 ATS in the last 8 meetings.
                                *Over is 4-1 in Auburn's last 5 games following a S.U. win.

Tennessee Volunteers vs. Arkansas Razorbacks (-6.5)

After its most successful regular season since the program's heyday in the 1990s, Arkansas begins its postseason push Friday with a quarterfinal matchup against Tennessee in the SEC tournament in Nashville. Despite a loss to LSU on a buzzer-beater to end the regular season, the Razorbacks have posted their most wins in a season in 17 years and finished with their highest SEC victory total (13) since the 1994 national championship squad. Their No. 2 seed marks the program's best since 1995.

SEC Player of the Year Bobby Portis averaged 17 points on 63.6 percent shooting and 9.5 rebounds as Arkansas split a pair of meetings with Tennessee this season. The second encounter - a 69-64 win for the Razorbacks on Jan. 27 - was early in a 2-9 swoon for the No. 10 seed Volunteers, who recovered to win two of their final three games in the regular season before upending No. 7 seed Vanderbilt 67-61 in the second round Thursday. Josh Richardson scored 15 of his 22 points in the second half as Tennessee ended the game on a 20-2 run.

                                TRENDS:

*Razorbacks are 1-5 ATS in their last 6 games overall.
*Volunteers are 4-1 ATS in the last 5 meetings.
*Over is 4-0 in Razorbacks last 4 overall.
*Over is 6-2 in Volunteers last 8 neutral site games.

South Carolina Gamecocks vs. Georgia Bulldogs (-2.5)

Georgia may have already done enough to secure its first NCAA Tournament berth in four years, but the Bulldogs are taking nothing for granted. That is that mentality or Mark Fox's team as it begins postseason play Friday against South Carolina in the quarterfinals of the SEC tournament in Nashville. "That's something we're not sure of," senior forward Nemanja Djurisic told reporters Tuesday. "We'd rather take care of our destiny and control what we can, and that's winning the next game."

Georgia certainly cannot take South Carolina lightly, as the Gamecocks won both meetings during the regular season and are riding a high after a dramatic victory over Ole Miss in the second round Thursday. After watching the Rebels take a lead on a dramatic four-point play with 3.3 seconds left, South Carolina stole a 60-58 win on Tyrone Johnson's three free throws with 0.7 seconds to go. The Gamecocks survived a 30.4 percent effort from the floor to win its first two games in the tournament for the second straight season.

                                TRENDS:

*Gamecocks are 6-20 ATS in the last 26 meetings.
*Bulldogs are 8-2 ATS in their last 10 games following a S.U. win.
*Under is 9-1 in Gamecocks last 10 neutral site games.
*Under is 7-2-2 in the last 11 meetings.
