savage, I couldn't read past line 1 (Paid professionals). You lost me there. Since when do these "Paid Professionals" always do what they are paid to do????

Just go back and look at what I said about the Marlins and Royals over the weekend and the Giants against the Pats last year in what should have been meaningless games for them.
The fact that paid professionals don't always do what they are supposed to do is precisely the reasons that most bettors have to work for living, and that Vegas and the Offshores aren't going out of business.
The point is that neither you nor I know for sure what will really happen out there today;I would like to think that the Tigers and Leyland have enough pride to give it their all for one more game considering the circumstances and the fact they aren't exactly underpaid.
I think even if you like the White Sox, the line is way to high.
If you or anyone feels that Tigers won't show up, then you should play White Sox -a run or even - 1 1/2 runs.
ps Perhaps we should all play the OVER-no one has picked it yet in the poll, and usually going against the grain is the way to go with gambling.

Wayne-thats what a lot of folks said;it was the last game for them before the playoffs, and it was felt that Giants would be more interested in getting people ready for the playoffs than winning the game and trying to break the winning streak.
Also, to play Devils Advocate and to use your logic, what is really more important and motivating?-to try to pin the first loss on a team or to try to keep a team out of the playoffs, which is the case today?

The Giants were still playing ball heading to the Playoffs savage and the Tigers are not. Teams make the playoffs every year, nobody EVER went (16-0). With the talk all week about History surrounding that 16th game for N.E. last year, i would easily go with that over a team like Detroit whose season ended weeks ago!

Even if you are right about the Giants(I don't agree), it still doesn't explain why the Marlins and Royals didn't mail it in over the weekend(which should have happened under your scenario, as botht teams were out of it and on the road).

Savage, the Marlins and Royals are young and playing for Jobs next season. The Tigers are old and thought they were going to win it all this season. The motivation between the two are not close ........

You know the other side of the coin in all this is if the White Sox are such a good pressure team, then how did they get themselves in this position to begin with?
They were in the driver's set, and yet got swept by the Twins in Minnesota and then lost the first two games at home against Cleveland(another team which should have quit but didn't because their season was over).

What do you mean this position? This is simply a regular season game they are making up. The Mets choked and the Twins lost 2 of 3 at home vs the Royals too. Chicago won yesterday and they can win to get in today.

Lets put it this way-if YOU were a good starting player on the Tigers, would you try hard today, knowing you would have a nice vacation after this game or would you say "fu k it-who cares?

How about the CWS knowing they have a nice post season berth waiting if they can win today? Screw the vacation ... they will all get that.

I buy some of your argument but not all. Tigers have some veteran players who I bet would love to knock out Chicago and end season on a nice note.
We will have to see what happens I guess.
The only sure thing(and I think you will agree) is that Leyland being the kind of manager he is, will want to win this game-he is not the kind of guy who would say screw it.
Whether the effort is there from the players, well we have to wait and see.

If Leyland got what he wanted savage, the Tigers would not be sitting in last place with that payroll. He can't play the games and he hasn't done anything to motivate them in the previous 161 games ....

1 thing is for sure, you like the Tigers and i like the White Sox.
