Braves at Pirates – 12:35 PM EST

Atlanta and Pittsburgh wrap up its three-game series at PNC Park after each team picked up a high-scoring victory the last two nights. The Braves (33-28) rallied from a 4-1 deficit to pull away from the Pirates on Tuesday, 12-5 by scoring nine runs in the final four innings, highlighted by home runs from Freddie Freeman, Josh Donaldson, and Austin Riley to cash as a -200 favorite.

The Pirates (29-31) rebounded on Wednesday following a two-hour rain delay to beat the Braves, 7-4. Pittsburgh jumped out to a 5-1 second inning lead and never looked back as Atlanta posted three runs in the ninth inning to make the final score look closer. Catcher Elias Diaz went deep for the first time this season, while battery mate Joe Musgrove bounced back from his pitching woes at home to toss eight solid innings to help Pittsburgh cash as a +115 underdog.

The Braves head into today’s finale owning a solid 12-5 mark in Game 3’s this season as Mike Foltynewicz takes the mound. The Atlanta right-hander hasn’t had much luck this season as the Braves have compiled a dreadful 1-6 record in his seven starts. The most recent defeat came as a -195 home favorite in an 8-2 setback to Detroit last Friday, as Foltynewicz yielded five earned runs for the third time this season.

Chris Archer won for the first time since early April in a 9-4 home triumph over Milwaukee last Friday. Archer tossed seven innings, but allowed at least four runs for the fifth consecutive outing. The OVER has hit in four of Archer’s last five starts, while the Pirates and Braves cashed the OVER in each of the first two games of this series.

Marlins at Brewers – 2:10 PM EST

Which universe are we currently living in? The Marlins (23-36) have scored at least eight runs in four consecutive games (all on the road), while outscoring the Brewers (34-28) by a whopping 24-3 margin in a pair of blowout wins at Miller Park. Miami is seeking its second road sweep of the season this afternoon, while Milwaukee hasn’t been swept at home in a series of three or more games since 2016 against Pittsburgh.

To show how far along the Marlins have come recently, this team has won 13 of their last 18 games. Prior to this hot stretch, Miami suffered through a seven-game skid in which it scored a total of eight runs. The Marlins posted 11 runs alone in the fifth inning of Tuesday’s 16-0 blowout of the Brewers as a +175 underdog, while not letting up in last night’s 8-3 rout to cash as a +205 ‘dog.

Southpaw Caleb Smith was Miami’s top pitcher for the first month by posting a 3-0 mark in six starts, while giving up one earned run or less four times. However, Smith has gone backwards of late as the Marlins are 1-4 in his past five outings, including three losses away from south Florida. Smith will keep the Marlins in the game as the left-hander has allowed two earned runs or fewer in nine of 11 starts, but hasn’t pitched past the fifth inning in his last three appearances.

Freddy Peralta counters for Milwaukee, as the Brewers’ pitching staff is looking for a reprieve after the last two starters haven’t pitched past the fourth inning. Peralta’s last three appearances came out of the bullpen in which he gave up four runs in 7.1 innings of work. In Peralta’s most recent start, he lasted four innings in a 7-4 defeat at Philadelphia on May 13, as the Brewers are 2-4 in his six starts this season.

Rockies at Cubs – 2:10 PM EST

It’s amazing how long winning streaks feel like they won’t end, but once that is gets snapped, you don’t know when a victory will come next. That’s the case for Colorado (31-29), who entered Chicago on an eight-game winning streak, but the Rockies are looking to avoid the sweep today after dropping the first two contests.

The Cubs (34-26) are back on the winning track after dropping three games to the rival Cardinals last weekend by beating the Angels in a make-up contest prior to capturing the first two against the Rockies. Chicago pulled away from Colorado on Tuesday night as -220 favorites, 6-3, highlighted by another solid start from right-hander Kyle Hendricks, who struck out 10 batters in seven innings. The Cubs held off the Rockies in a wild game last night, 8-7 as Chicago built a 3-0 lead before Colorado tied the game at 3-3. Chicago posted five runs in the sixth inning and picked up a late insurance win to guarantee its first home series win since mid-May.

Jose Quintana is winless in his past five starts for Chicago, as the southpaw seeks his first victory since May 5 against St. Louis. Quintana pitched well in his last outing against the Cardinals last Saturday until the rain fell at Busch Stadium, resulting in a lengthy rain delay and preventing the left-hander to continue in a 2-2 game. The Cubs ended up losing, 7-5 in a battle of the bullpens, as Quintana threw only 69 pitches. The Cubs are 4-2 in Quintana’s six starts at Wrigley Field this season, but he owns a bloated 5.60 ERA in daytime action.

The Rockies have lost their last three road series finales, while allowing 27 runs in those contests. Colorado turns to right-hander Peter Lambert this afternoon, who will be making his Major League debut. Lambert is the top pitching prospect in the Rockies’ organization, as the San Dimas, California native (home of “Bill and Ted’s Excellent Adventure"), has compiled a 2-2 record and 5.07 ERA at Triple-A Albuquerque.

        Bloody Well Right

The New York Yankees will face a right-handed pitcher on Thursday when they face off against RHP Edwin Jackson and the Blue Jays. When the Yankees face a righty an 'over' result is usually the result, going 21-4-2 in their past 27 on the road vs. RHP, while going 7-2-1 in their past 10 overall against a right-handed starting pitcher. The over is also 6-1-1 in JA Happ's past eight starts on the road, and he'll be facing his former team. The over is also 7-1-1 in New York's past nine on the road against teams with a losing home record, 7-1-1 in the past nine against a starting pitcher with a WHIP north of 1.30, and the over is also 17-4 in their past 21 in Game 3 of a series, too.

For the Blue Jays, the over has connected in five in a row at home against left-handed pitchers, and the over is 5-0-1 in their past six overall vs. LHP. The over is 7-1-1 in the past nine at home for the Blue Jays, and 9-3-2 in the past 14 against American League East foes. In addition, the over is 9-4-2 in the past 15 overall for Toronto. Following a win, the over has connected in each of the past four, too, while going 6-2 in the past eight meetings overall against the Yankees.

        Looking Ahead

        Thursday, June 6

The line for the game between the Baltimore Orioles and Texas Rangers is set at 10 1/2, and that might not be too much based upon the trends. The Orioles roll out RHP David Hess against Rangers RHP Ariel Jurado in the series finale. Both of the first two contests were one-run games in very, very different fashion. Baltimore opened with a 12-11 victory in the opener on Monday, while Texas outlasted the O's 2-1 in 12 innings on Tuesday. Perhaps they conserved their energy and will be ready for another offensive onslaught.

The Rangers have hit the under in five of their past six games, however, and the under is 10-4 across their past 14. The under is also 7-1 in the past eight at home for the Rangers, with the outlier being Monday's game. The under is 4-1 in their past five against right-handed starting pitching, and 7-2 in their past nine following a victory, too. For the O's, the over is 5-2-1 in Hess' past eight starts overall, and 5-1 in their past six against winning teams, while going 8-3 in their past 11 games following a loss. The under is 6-2 in Baltimore's past eight overall, however, and 3-1-1 in their past five against AL West foes, too.

It's a battle of southpaws in San Diego as LHP Patrick Corbin starts for the Nationals against LHP Joey Lucchesi of the Padres. Corbin knows the Padres well from his days with the Arizona Diamondbacks, although this is a new, improved and powerful San Diego lineup than he has been accustomed.

The under has connected in four of the past five stats for Corbin, while going 3-0-1 in the past four for the Nats inside the NL West. The over is 5-2-1 in their past eight games on the road, while going 3-1-1 in the past five vs. LHP. For the Padres, the over is 5-0-1 in the past six outings overall, 5-0-1 in the past six at home and 6-0-1 in the previous seven matchups against teams with a losing overall record.

As far as Lucchesi is concerned, the over is 4-1-1 in his past six starts overall, but the under is 5-2-1 in his past eight starts at home. The under is also 9-4-1 in San Diego's past 14 vs. LHP, and 6-1-1 in their past eight at home against southpaws. In this series the under is 9-4-3 in the past 16 meetings overall, including 5-1-1 in the past seven at Petco Park.

        Wind Report
We had some weather interruptions on Wednesday, but the winds are rather tranquil on Thursday, with all venues forecasted for winds 9 mph or under. The only weather trouble spot is in Kansas City, as there is a 30 percent or more chance of light rain all throughout the evening.

        Friday, June 7

The Reds and Phillies tangle in the City of Brotherly Love on Friday night with RHP Tyler Mahle facing RHP Zach Eflin. If you're betting the line, the Reds are 3-13 in Mahle's past 16 starts and 1-11 in his past 12 on the road, while going 1-6 in his past seven against winning teams. Remember that for parlay action, especially since the Phillies are 5-1 in Efling's past six at home and 6-2 in his past eight against losing teams.

As far as the total is concerned, the over is 4-0 in Cincinnati's past four vs. RHP, while going 4-1 in their past five on the road against winning teams. The over is 5-2-1 in their past eight overall against righties, while going 3-1-1 in Mahle's past five on the road against winning clubs. The under is 5-2-1 in Eflin's past eight overall, and 4-1 in his past five at home. The under is also 7-2 in Philly's past nine against losing teams, and 4-0 in Eflin's past four assignments against sub-.500 clubs. The under is also 7-3-1 in Mahle's past 11 starts overall.

Out west, the Dodgers have LHP Clayton Kershaw going in San Francisco against a starter yet to be named as of Thursday morning. The over is actually 7-1 in Kershaw's past eight starts on the road, and 4-1 in his past five overall. The over is also 6-2 in his past eight in Game 1 of a series. However, the under is 15-5-1 in L.A.'s past 21 against losing teams, 6-0-1 in their past seven overall and 4-0 in the past four inside the division. While the over is 8-2-1 in San Francisco's past 11 against southpaws, the under is 16-5-1 in Kershaw's past 22 road starts against the Giants, and 25-8-3 in his past 36 overall against the rivals.

The Mariners and Angels square off in a battle of left-handers. LHP Marco Gonzales goes for the Mariners, and it hasn't been going very well for him. The over is 6-2-1 in Seattle's past nine overall, and 19-7-1 in their past 27 against LHP. The under is 4-1 in their past five on the road, however, and the under is 3-1-1 in Gonzo's past five road outings. The under is 5-2-1 in his past eight on the road against losing teams, too. For the Halos, the under is 22-5-1 in the past 28 games on a Friday, making under bettors say t.g.i.f. The undere is also 3-0-1 in LHP Andrew Heaney's past four against losing teams, and 7-3-1 in his past 11 in Game 1 of a series.

The under is also 20-7-1 in the past 28 at home for the Angels against southpaws and 6-2-3 in their past 11 against teams with a losing record. The under is 36-16-4 in the past 56 overall vs. LHP, too. In this series, the over is 4-1-1 in the past six meetings, and 7-3 in the past 10 battles in Anaheim. However, the under is 5-2 in Gonzales' past seven outings against the Halos.

        Wind Report
In Friday's lone matinee game, the Cardinals and Cubs will experience a win of 10-13 mph blowing straight into the face of the batters from straightaway center field.

At Progressive Field in Cleveland, the Yankees and Indians will be battling a swirling wind coming in from right field at a 11-14 mph clip. On the other side of Lake Erie, the Twins and Tigers will see the opposite, with winds blowing out to right field at 10-13 mph. The A's and Rangers will battle a 10-13 mph wind blowing out to the right-center field power alley, benefiting left-handed hitters especially.

However, the big wind winner of the day will be in Oracle Park in San Francisco, as the Dodgers and Giants will contend with a jetstream gusting from 14-17 mph out to the right-center field power alley.

            • Straw's 3B in 14th lifts Astros over pesky Mariners 8-7
              June 6, 2019
              By The Associated Press

CLEVELAND (AP) Max Kepler homered three times and Jose Berrios (8-2) locked up Cleveland's lineup into the seventh inning as the Minnesota Twins avoided a sweep - and their first three-game losing streak - by beating the Indians 5-4 on Thursday night.

Kepler, who entered hitless in his previous 21 at-bats, connected in the first, third and seventh innings off Indians starter Trevor Bauer (4-6). Kepler also walked in the fifth.

The 26-year-old outfielder came up in the ninth with a chance to become the 19th player in history to hit four homers in one game - a feat rarer than a perfect game. But left-hander Josh Smith kept the left-handed swinging Kepler in the park, getting him to hit a hard grounder to the right side that he beat out for a single.

It was Kepler's second career three-homer game. The other one also came against the Indians on Aug. 1, 2016.

The AL-Central leading Twins took the series finale and again moved 10+ games ahead of Cleveland, whose run of three straight division titles could be coming to an end.

Indians rookie Oscar Mercado's pinch-hit homer in the ninth pulled Cleveland to 5-4 before Taylor Rogers retired Roberto Perez on a groundout for his sixth save.

              ASTROS 8, MARINERS 7, 14 INNINGS

SEATTLE (AP) - Myles Straw led off the 14th inning with a triple and scored on Yuli Gurriel's sacrifice fly, and Houston outlasted pesky Seattle in the longest game of the season by innings for either team.

Seattle staged tying rallies in the ninth and 10th innings and loaded the bases in the bottom of the 14th thanks to three walks by Chris Devenski (1-0), but the right-hander got Shed Long to fly out to end it.

Houston led 5-1 after 6 1/2 innings but Seattle chipped away, tying it at 6 in the ninth on Edwin Encarnacion's single against closer Roberto Osuna. That prevented Justin Verlander from becoming the first 10-game winner in the AL.

Matt Festa (0-1) allowed Straw's triple - a ball that was played poorly by right fielder Domingo Santana - and one walk in the 14th for the Mariners.

Seattle outfielder Mitch Haniger left in the seventh with what the team called a ''mid-body'' contusion.

              BREWERS 5, MARLINS 1

Christian Yelich hit his major league-leading 23rd home run and Mike Moustakas added two homers to lead Milwaukee over Miami.

Milwaukee won the series finale after getting outscored 24-3 in the first two games. The Brewers are a percentage point behind the NL Central-leading Chicago Cubs.

Yelich hit a two-run homer in the first off Caleb Smith (3-4).

Freddy Peralta (3-2), struck out nine and gave up one run in six innings. Josh Hader struck out three in 1 1/3 innings for his 14th save.

              ROCKIES 3, CUBS 1

CHICAGO (AP) - Peter Lambert (1-0) allowed four hits over seven innings and struck out nine to win his major league debut. The 22-year-old right-hander was selected in the second round with the 44th overall pick of the 2015 amateur draft,

He also singled on his first pitch as a big league batter, using a two-tone bat to loop a fastball from Jose Quintana (4-5) to right-center field.

Scott Oberg threw a perfect ninth for this third save, completing a five-hitter.

Colorado took a 2-0 lead in the third when David Dahl hit an RBI single and scored on the first of Ian Desmond's two doubles.

              CARDINALS 3, REDS 1

ST. LOUIS (AP) - Paul DeJong hit a tiebreaking, two-run homer off Michael Lorenzen (0-1) in the seventh and St. Louis tied its season high with four stolen bases, closing within 2 1/2 games of the NL Central lead. DeJong had been in a 3-for-43 slide with no extra-base hits.

Matt Carpenter, Kolten Wong, Marcel Ozuna and Dexter Fowler swiped bases for the Cardinals, who are tied with Milwaukee for the NL lead with 37.

John Gant (5-0) pitched 1 1/3 innings of perfect relief and Jordan Hicks got three straight outs for his 12th save.

              YANKEES 6, BLUE JAYS 2

TORONTO (AP) - J.A. Happ (6-3) pitched seven strong innings to win his fifth straight decision, Aaron Hicks and Gio Urshela homered, and New York beat Toronto to avoid a three-game sweep.

DJ LeMahieu had three hits and two RBIs, and the Yankees snapped a three-game losing streak, their first since early April. Aroldis Chapman got his 18th save in 19 opportunities.

Edwin Jackson (0-4) allowed six runs, two earned, in 3 1/3 innings, losing his fourth straight start. Jackson decreased his ERA to 11.90 after allowing 10 runs in his previous outing at Colorado.

              RED SOX 7, ROYALS 5

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) - Mookie Betts hit a two-run homer off Danny Duffy (3-3) in a four-run third inning, and complete its first series sweep since May 10-12 against the Chicago White Sox. Betts is 7 for 11 with five home runs against Duffy.

Kansas City has lost six straight and nine of 10, dropping to a big league-worst 19-43.

Colten Brewer (1-2) pitched two scoreless innings of two-hit relief. Matt Barnes, Boston's seventh pitcher, allowed Jorge Soler's one-out RBI double in the inth but got his fourth save.

              RANGERS 4, ORIOLES 3

ARLINGTON, Texas (AP) - Delino DeShields' single led to a key error by Chris Davis during his first game in right field in almost three years, and Texas beat banged-up Baltimore.

The Orioles lost left fielder Dwight Smith Jr. when he crashed into the wall just as he caught a fly ball by Rougned Odor.

Ariel Jurado (3-2) gave up eight hits and three runs in six innings with six strikeouts, and Shawn Kelley got his seventh save. David Hess (1-8) gave up his major league-leading 20th home run.

              METS 7, GIANTS 3

NEW YORK (AP) - Amed Rosario and Dominic Smith hit back-to-back home runs to begin the first inning, then Todd Frazier hit a tiebreaking drive off Mark Melancon (2-1) in the eighth .

Seth Lugo (3-0) pitched one inning for the win. The Mets held the Giants to three hits.

              PIRATES 6, BRAVES 1

PITTSBURGH (AP) - Mike Foltynewicz (1-5) allowed consecutive home runs to Colin Moran and Gregory Polanco in the second inning, raising his season total to 15.

Josh Bell had three doubles, increasing his major league-leading total to 25, and had two RBIs to take sole possession of the big league lead with 58.

Chris Archer (3-5) gave up one run and six hits in six innings, and Felipe Vazquez got four outs for his 15th save.

              RAYS 6, TIGERS 1

DETROIT (AP) - Travis d'Arnaud homered for the first time since March 31 last year, going deep twice.

D'Arnaud missed all but four games in 2018 due to Tommy John surgery. Willy Adames also homered for Tampa Bay.

Jalen Beeks (5-0) pitched 4 1/3 scoreless innings for the Rays, a major league-best 20-9 on the road.

Daniel Norris (2-5) allowed three runs and 11 hits in 5 2/3 innings.

                  *******************************

Friday’s List of 13: Random stuff with the weekend here……

                  13) The person who shoved Toronto Raptors’ G Kyle Lowry, then cursed at him at Wednesday’s NBA Finals game in Oakland wasn’t just any fan; it was Mark Stevens, who is a minority owner of the Warriors. Stevens was tossed from the game Wednesday, and won’t be at any of the games the rest of the series.

Not only that, but Stevens got fined $500K and was banned from the NBA for a year.

                  12) Atlanta Braves signed P Dallas Keuchel to a one-year deal worth $13M, which probably leaves Bronx and the Phillies as main trade partners with the Giants for Madison Bumgarner.

                  11) Eagles signed QB Carson Wentz to a 4-year, $128M contract that could escalate to $144M; $107M of it is guaranteed. Funny thing is that Eagles won Super Bowl two years ago, without Wentz, but Nick Foles is in Jacksonville now, so Wentz has to stay healthy now.

                  10) 1,200 kids just got taken in the baseball draft; 172 from California, 129 from Florida, 113 from Texas, so 34.5% of players taken were from those three states.

                  9) Kenyon Martin Jr., son of the former NBA player, is skipping playing basketball at Vanderbilt to try professional ball overseas. Martin is a 6-6 forward; he is the second prospect in two weeks to pass up college ball to play overseas for money.

                  8) College basketball is moving the 3-point line distance from 20 feet, 9 inches to the international basketball distance of 22-1 3/4; they did this in the NIT the last two years- under went 64-60 in those games.

Last year, 38.7% of shots taken were 3’s; will this result in less 3’s being tried?

This season, they will also reset the shot clock to 20 seconds (instead of a full 30) after an offensive rebound, which will result in more possessions, which helps the over.

                  7) Blues 2, Bruins 1— Back in January, a guy named Scott Berry bet $400 on the Blues to win the Stanley Cup, when they were 250-1 to win the championship. Now St Louis is one win away from winning its first Stanley Cup title. Berry would bank $100,000 if that happens.

                  6) Former Steelers’ backup QB Landry Jones may surface next in XFL tryouts; one thing the AAF didn’t have was high-quality QB’s.

                  5) For what it is worth, ESPN’s new gambling show Daily Wager is not allowed to use NFL team names or logos, but they use names/logos for all the other sports.

                  4) Brooklyn Nets traded Allen Crabbe, the #17 pick and a protected first in 2020 to the Atlanta Hawks for Taurean Prince and a 2021 second-round pick.

Nets clear $18M in additional salary cap space for July, which gives Brooklyn $46M in salary cap space to sign a max free agent.

Hawks now have three picks (#’s 8, 10 and 17) in this month’s draft.

                  3) Rockies, Dodgers, Pirates are tied for major league lead, with 13 home-grown players each on their 25-man rosters. Houston leads MLB with 22 players on their 40-man roster.

                  2) News item: Two female acquaintances vanished with more than half a million dollars in jewelry from Jets’ RB Le’Veon Bell’s Florida home.

Lot of ways to go with this one; not every day someone has two “girlfriends” over to the house. Fact that Bell left to go to the gym and left the ladies in the house seem to indicate that they aren’t escorts; if they are escorts, then Bell is a nominee for immediate induction into the Imbecile Hall of Fame.

                  1) When MLB puts in the 3-batter minimum rule for relief pitchers in the near future, I’ll be glad that I’ll never have to watch some of these cruddy lefty relievers who are in the majors for one reason only— supposedly they can get lefties out.

                  • LEADING OFF: Didi back for Yanks, Kepler's max power
                    June 7, 2019
                    By The Associated Press

A look at what's happening around the majors Friday:

                    BRAVE NEW WORLD

It appears free agent pitcher Dallas Keuchel has finally found a home. Keuchel and the Atlanta Braves agreed to a one-year contract that would pay the 2015 AL Cy Young Award winner about $13 million, a person familiar with the negotiations told The Associated Press. The person spoke on condition of anonymity Thursday night because the agreement was subject to Keuchel passing a physical, which was scheduled for Friday.

Keuchel's contract would include a salary of about $21.21 million, and he would get a prorated share that amounts to approximately $13 million because 114 days will remain in the 186-day season. A 31-year-old left-hander, Keuchel was 12-11 with a 3.74 ERA in 34 starts last season for Houston and turned down a $17.9 million qualifying offer in November. The two-time All-Star is 76-63 with a 3.66 ERA in seven major league seasons, all with the Astros.

                    SHORT STORY

Didi Gregorius is expected back in the Yankees' lineup for the first time this season when New York opens a three-game series at Cleveland. The shortstop has recovered quickly from Tommy John surgery on his right elbow Oct. 17. Gregorius batted .268 with a career-high 27 homers last season. He also had 86 RBIs and an .829 OPS in 134 games. New York is still missing several injured stars, but Gregorius' left-handed bat provides some balance for a Yankees lineup loaded with right-handed power when healthy.

                    MAX POWER

Twins outfielder Max Kepler turned around his week in a big way Thursday, ending an 0-for-21 skid with a three-homer game against Cleveland. Minnesota leads the majors with 117 homers, including 15 from Kepler, who is already closing in on his career high of 20. The AL Central leaders are set to start a three-game set in Detroit, facing breakout left-hander Matthew Boyd (5-4, 3.01 ERA) in the opener.

                    UNBEATABLE

Dating to last season, Clayton Kershaw has gone 21 consecutive starts without a loss - the longest active streak in the majors. The three-time Cy Young Award winner pitches for the major league-leading Los Angeles Dodgers (43-20) in their series opener at last-place San Francisco. Kershaw (5-0, 3.20 ERA) is 22-10 against the rival Giants, who send Drew Pomeranz (1-6, 8.08) to the mound. In his last start, Pomeranz was tagged by Baltimore for eight runs in 1 1/3 innings.

                    SHIPPIN' UP TO BOSTON

Riding a four-game winning streak, the Red Sox hope to have slugger J.D. Martinez available against Tampa Bay as the teams begin a four-game series at Fenway Park. Martinez was removed in the fifth inning Thursday at Kansas City because of back spasms. Boston is 27-16 following a 6-13 start but remains third in the AL East, five games behind the second-place Rays and 6+ back of the Yankees.

                    RIVALS AT WRIGLEY

Cole Hamels (4-2, 3.62 ERA) and the Chicago Cubs host the rival Cardinals at Wrigley Field. St. Louis swept three games from the Cubs at home last weekend. Miles Mikolas (4-5, 4.11) starts for the Cardinals as they begin a 10-game trip, their longest of the season.

Hottest team: Dodgers (11-2 last 13 games)

Although Los Angeles had its seven-game winning streak snapped in an extra-innings loss at Arizona on Wednesday, the Dodgers have been on fire. The last time Los Angeles dropped a series came at San Francisco in late April, as the Dodgers begin a three-game weekend series with the rival Giants tonight. The Dodgers have won five consecutive road series openers with the last loss coming to the Giants, 3-2 on April 29.

Clayton Kershaw takes the mound for the Dodgers in the opener as Los Angeles has won all nine of the ace’s starts this season and 17 consecutive regular season outings since 2018. Kershaw has not faced the Giants this season, as Los Angeles went 2-2 in his four starts against San Francisco last season. Both victories came at Oracle Park, as the last regular season road loss suffered by the Dodgers with the Cy Young winner on the mound came at Oakland last August in a 3-2 setback.

Coldest team: Mariners (3-14 last 17 games)

That 13-2 start by Seattle seems like years ago at this point as the Mariners own a startling 13-38 record the past 51 games. The M’s finished off their 11-game homestand at 3-8, capped off by a 14-inning loss to the Astros on Thursday, although Seattle erased a four-run deficit to tie the game late. Since the start of May, the Mariners have won back-to-back games only once, while dropping 10 consecutive road contests.

The M’s travel to southern California to begin a three-game series with the Angels as southpaw Marco Gonzales looks to get on track. Gonzales started the season at 4-0, but things have unraveled for the former Gonzaga standout as the Mariners are 0-7 in his past seven trips to the mound. The most recent start was his worst of the season as Gonzales was lit up for 10 runs in less than five innings of a 13-3 home loss to – the Angels, tonight’s opponent.

Hottest pitcher: Lance Lynn, Rangers (7-4, 4.50 ERA)

Lynn has turned into one of the more underrated offseason pickups as the Rangers have won seven of 11 starts made by the right-hander. Lynn has allowed eight earned runs in his past four starts as Texas owns a 3-1 record in this span, including a pair of double-digit strikeout performances. Texas has compiled a perfect 5-0 record at Globe Life Field with Lynn on the mound, although the last two wins came against last-place squads Kansas City and Seattle. The Rangers welcome in the Athletics tonight as Lynn’s worst start of 2019 came at Oakland as he allowed eight runs in an 11-5 defeat in April.

Coldest pitcher: Nick Margevicius, Padres (2-6, 5.40 ERA)

The first three starts of the season were promising for the former Rider southpaw by allowing one run each against the Giants twice and the Cardinals. However, Margevicius has gone backwards recently by yielded 16 runs in his past three outings, including falling short as a home favorite of -150 or higher in defeats to the Pirates and Marlins. In this stretch, Margevicius is on a solid OVER run with the Padres cashing the OVER in six of his last seven trips to the mound as he faces the Nationals this evening.

Biggest OVER run: Angels (8-2-2 last 12)

The pitching staff for the Halos has been lit up the last two nights by allowing 16 runs to the Athletics. After rallying from a 7-1 deficit in Wednesday’s 10-9 triumph, the Angels fell into a 6-1 hole and couldn’t come back in a 7-4 defeat to the A’s as both games sailed OVER the total. The Angels captured three of four games from the Mariners at T-Mobile Park from May 30 through June 2 as Los Angeles scored at least six runs in each of the three victories. Andrew Heaney takes the mound for the Halos tonight as he gave up three runs in six innings against Seattle last Saturday in a 6-3 win that pushed on the total of nine runs.

                                Biggest UNDER run:
                                Diamondbacks (7-2-1 last 10)

Arizona avoided a sweep in Wednesday’s 3-2 walk-off victory over Los Angeles, as the Diamondbacks plated only four runs in the entire series. The D-backs have allowed three runs or less in three of the past four games, including several solid pitching efforts against the tough Dodgers’ lineup. Arizona travels north of the border for a weekend series with Toronto as the D-backs try to snap a four-game road skid. Merrill Kelly is fresh off his best start as a D-back by striking out 10 batters in 7.2 innings of a 7-1 rout of the Mets. However, Arizona has scored two runs or less in four of his six road starts this season.

Matchup to watch: Rays vs. Red Sox

The Yankees continue to lead the AL East, but Boston and Tampa Bay are right behind New York for the top spot in the division. The Rays travel to Fenway Park for a critical series with the Red Sox as Tampa Bay grabbed two of three games at Detroit to begin its six-game road swing. Tampa Bay owns a solid 8-2 record in road series openers this season, but lost in its last attempt at Detroit on Tuesday as a hefty -250 favorite.

Boston is back at home after winning the final four games of its road trip, including pulling off a three-game sweep at Kansas City. The Red Sox have seen their offense heat up of late by scoring eight runs three times during this hot streak and seven runs in Thursday’s victory. Rick Porcello didn’t last past the fifth inning in a 5-3 defeat to the Yankees last Saturday as the right-hander allowed five runs and nine hits. Porcello picked up a no-decision against Tampa Bay in a 6-5 victory at Tropicana Field in mid-April.

Yonny Chirinos counters for Tampa Bay as the right-hander has tossed at least five innings in each of his past two starts, but is coming off a 6-2 setback to the Twins last Saturday as a short home favorite. The road team has won all five matchups this season, including a pair of victories by the Rays at Fenway Park in late April.

Betcha didn’t know: The Rockies captured six of seven matchups from the Mets last season as the two NL squads hook up tonight at Citi Field. The only victory by New York against Colorado in 2018 came with Cy Young winner Jacob deGrom on the mound, as he starts tonight as a -200 favorite. The Mets have stumbled to a 2-8 record in deGrom’s last 10 starts, including a pair of defeats when listed as chalk of -200 or higher.
