      Another Double Dip

The Miami Marlins and Atlanta Braves will hook up for a day-night doubleheader to kick off the new week on Monday. The Braves just took part in a double dip on Aug. 7 in Washington, splitting the pair in D.C. Atlanta also host N.Y. Mets back on May 28, splitting that twin bill, too. This will be Miami's first doubleheader of the 2018 season. They swept their only doubleheader of the 2017 season in Philadelphia on Aug. 22. They're also 4-0 in their past four Game 2s of a double dip dating back to the 2013 season, and they haven't been swept in their past seven doubleheaders since losing a pair in Arizona on Aug. 22, 2012.

This season there have been a total of 25 doubleheaders to date, with a sweep in just five of those twin bills (20 percent). The home team has swept just two of the double dips.

Total bettors will be interested in the 'over' in this Nationa League East battle. The 'over' is 5-2 in the past seven meetings in Atlanta, and 41-19-3 in the past 63 meetings overall. In addition, Miami has won just once in the past six tries against Atlanta, and they're 0-4 in their past four trips to SunTrust Park in the northern suburbs. The over is also 13-6-1 in Miami's past 20 games on the road, while going 4-1 in the past five opening games of a doubleheader for Atlanta. The over is also 5-2 in their past seven opening games of a new series, 3-1-1 in the past five against the NL East and 6-1 in their past seven at home against a team with a road winning percentage of .400 or less.

      Looking Ahead

      Monday, Aug. 13

The Tigers will host the White Sox at Comerica Park on Monday. Detroit hasn't had a lot of luck against anyone lately, going 12-32 across the past 44 games overall, and just 18-41 in their past 59 openers of a new series. They're also a dismal 41-86 in their past 127 tries against right-handed starting pitching, so they do not appear to be a good play on Monday. However, the White Sox are 11-23 in their past 34 against AL Central foes, 3-7 in their past 10 on the road against teams with a losing record and 19-45 in their past 64 on the road against teams with a winning home mark. They're also 2-7 in Reynaldo Lopez's past nine road assignments, and 1-5 over his past six starts overall. In addition, the White Sox have dropped four in a row against the Tigers, and they're 21-51 in their past 72 forays into Comerica.

Diamondbacks RHP Zack Greinke will battle venerable Rangers RHP Bartolo Colon in interleague action at Globe Life Park in Arlington. The Snakes have rattled off 19 wins over their past 28 games on the road, including a 10-3 mark in the past 13 on the road against teams with a losing overall record. Arizona is also 7-3 in the past 10 starts by Greinke, while going 6-0 in their past six road outings by the right-hander. The D-Backs are also 21-6 in the past 27 starts against teams with a losing overall mark. Arizona has had great success with Greinke on the hill in interleague games, too, going 9-4 in his past 13 assignments vs. AL. Texas has been a tough out lately, winning five of their past seven home games, and they're 5-2 in their past seven vs. RHP, too. They're also 5-2 in their past seven interleague games, and 21-8 in their past 29 interleague home battles against teams with a winning overall mark.

In Los Angeles, Giants LHP Madison Bumgarner and Dodgers LHP Clayton Kershaw square off in the opening game for these rivals. This pitching matchup would normally be one of the premier matchups of the season, but both pitchers haven't resembled themselves this season due to a myriad of injuries. After a slow start, though, Kershaw is rounding into form with wins in four of his past five decisions while posting seven straight quality starts. Like Kershaw, MadBum enters this game with a .500 record overall, but he has pitched better of late. He lost his previous start at Dodger Stadium back on June 16, but he posted a quality start in the outing.

The Giants have won nine of MadBum's past 29 starts, while going 1-4 in the past five road outings with the lefty on the hill. The Giants are 5-11 in Bumgarner's past 16 starts against teams with a winning road record, too. The Dodgers have won 47 of Kershaw's past 58 inside the NL West while going 38-14 in his past 52 against teams with a winning overall mark. L.A. is 4-0 in the past four when Kershaw squares off against Bumgarner, while the Dodgers are 4-1 in Kershaw's past five overall against San Francisco. The Giants are 1-6 in MadBum's past seven road outings in L.A., while going 2-8 in his past 10 overall against the Dodgers.

      Weather Report

The precipitation should hold off across most of baseball, although the Athletics and Royals could be dodging the raindrops at Kauffman Stadium. There is a 35 percent or better chance of thunderstorms beginning in the middle innings and into the wee hours of the night. Other than that, no trouble spots on Monday.

      Tuesday, Aug. 14

The Indians head down Interstate 71 to battle the Reds in Ohio's interleague tussle. OK, they're probably flying a charter. It will be Corey Kluber's first start against Cincinnati this season. He is 2-0 with a 2.30 ERA in two starts against the Reds since the start of the 2015 season. He doesn't face them often, but he has been good when asked to go against the 'Nati.

Mariners LHP James Paxton will take the ball in Oakland for a key AL West series against RHP Mike Fiers and the A's. The southpaw from British Columbia was dominant in his only start againts the Athletics earlier this season, scattering five hits with one walk and a season-best 16 strikeouts over seven scoreless innings back on May 2. He is 1-0 with a 3.64 ERA in five outings against the A's since the start of the 2015 season, striking out 41 batters over just 29 2/3 innings.

Dodgers LHP Alex Wood (hamstring) will come off the 15-day disabled list to face the Giants on Tuesday night. He'll likely have some kind of a pitch count or innings ceiling upon his return. He is 1-1 with a 2.29 ERA over 19 2/3 innings across three starts this season against San Francisco, and the Giants are hitting a paltry .155 against him. He is 3-2 with a 3.63 ERA over nine appearances (seven starts) against the Giants since the start of the 2015 season.

      Weather Report

The start of the Rays-Yankees game might be delayed slightly by rain, as there is a 40 percent chance of thunderstorms. The rain will taper off early in the evening, so a postponement is unlikely.

The two Show-Me State MLB venues will be dealing with weather, and a postponement in the Jays-Royals game is likely. In St. Louis, the contest should get underway, but that weather affecting Kansas City will blow east and arrive by the middle innings, with a 40 percent chance of thunderstorms from 8pm CT on into the night.

Precip won't be a problem in Oakland, but the Mariners and A's will be battling a 10-13 mph jetstream blowing out to the right-center field power alley.

            Monday MLB Best Bet

            Seattle Mariners vs. Oakland Athletics

Interleague games may be dominating the early part of this week given that five of the 11 games on Monday are between AL and NL foes, but there are some great division matchups as well to begin this week and none are bigger than the three-game set Seattle and Oakland begin tonight.

Both teams are within four games of 1st place Houston in the AL West, and with Oakland currently holding down that 2nd spot – and what would ultimately be a Wildcard berth – the A's are going to want to take care of business on their own turf. Can they do it tonight?

Odds: Seattle (+111) vs Oakland (-121); Total set at 8

Oakland comes into this game as the slight favorite and rightfully so, but this line actually opened up in the -135 range overnight and despite VegasInsider.com's betting percentages showing 80%+ on the home side, we've seen a significant move come Seattle's way already. That has to be slightly concerning for bettors already on the A's tonight, especially when Seattle starter Marco Gonzales has really had a rough go of it lately.

Gonzales hasn't been the same pitcher he was prior to the All-Star break as he was on quite a run leading into the break with three consecutive starts of allowing one run or less. But in his four starts since the break, Seattle has gone 2-2 SU with Gonzales allowing 2, 5, 7, and 11 runs respectively.

To see that trend of runs scored by Mariners opponents grow with each outing is part of why Oakland was/is getting so much love from bettors tonight, but Gonzales' last start in Oakland earlier this year was a gem (7 IP, 2 H, 0 R) in a 1-0 Mariners win, so I'm sure some of that thinking is behind this Seattle move. Also, it doesn't hurt the Mariners cause that they are coming off a four-game sweep of 1st place Houston over the weekend either.

Oakland counters with Sean Manaea and he'll get to pitch at home against Seattle for the first time in six games against the Mariners. This will be Manaea's 7th start against Seattle since the beginning of last season, but the last five were all in the Pacific Northwest and didn't exactly go well with Oakland going 1-4 SU in those five games.

That's not to say Manaea didn't have his moments in there as he pitched six or more innings in five of those six starts overall, and did manage to hold the Mariners to a single run twice. But there were some rougher outings in there as well in 6-5 and 7-2 losses, so maybe it's that version of Manaea that shows up tonight with the line move we've seen already.

With potential arguments readily available for backing either side in tonight's game, the side is something I'm looking to ignore. All the playoff ramifications this series has for both sides makes it one where you can see Seattle coming out ahead and pushing Oakland for that Wildcard spot, or Oakland continues to roll and pushes their advantage further. Either way, you won't see me on any side in this entire series in all likelihood. Where sportsbooks will see my money though is on the total tonight as this flat '8' out there seems a little low.

I touched on Gonzales' recent struggles earlier and pitchers struggling is always a good thing for 'over' plays. Seattle is 3-0 O/U in Gonzales' last three starts overall thanks to his struggles, and with a 6.50 ERA in those three starts and average runs against Seattle coming in at 7.7/game during that span, Oakland's hitters should find some success against Gonzales tonight. After all, his first start against the A's this year (and only one in Oakland) was a 10-8 Seattle win that saw the A's jump all over Gonzales early, knocking him out of the game after 3.1 IP and 4 ER allowed.

Manaea's performances have been trending downward as well with a 4.61 ERA over his last three starts thanks to giving up 19 hits in just 13.2 IP. The A's lefty probably hasn't seen the full extend of that damage in those starts as opponents haven't exactly been that efficient scoring runs in those spots (Manaea was gone after 2.2 IP in his last start after allowing 3 ER yet the game ended 4-2 and cashed an 'under' ticket), and with Seattle scoring 4 or more runs in seven of their last eight games, Seattle's offense should do their part in carrying this game 'over' the total.

So with VegasInsider.com's betting percentage numbers showing a strong majority on the 'under' as well (80%+) - which I really don't understand because if those same masses like Oakland to win chances are they light up a struggling Gonzales – I'm going against the masses and expecting quite a few runs scored tonight. Oakland is 14-4-1 O/U in their last 19 division games, and coming off two straight games where they scored 7+, I'm looking for some sort of 5-4 or 6-5 type score tonight for someone.

            Best Bet: Over 8

MLB Preview - New York Mets at New York Yankees

The New York Mets are in the midst of a disappointing season, but once every five days they always feel good about their chances. Ace Jacob DeGrom is scheduled to take the mound on Monday in a nationally televised matchup with the New York Yankees.

The Yanks are at home and have been the much better team this season, but their starter, Luis Severino, has been in a funk of late. The Yankees don’t have much hope of winning the American League East any longer as the Red Sox are way ahead, but they are in line to grab the first wild card. That spot is not set in stone so the Yankees would be well-served to pick up a win in this matchup.

The odds will be interesting so check in before the game to make a wager in MLB betting.

This MLB baseball game between the New York Mets at New York Yankees will be held at Yankee Stadium in the Bronx, New York at 7 p.m ET on Monday, August 13th. This matchup will be broadcast on ESPN.

We'll have MLB baseball odds at BookMaker.eu available for every game of the 2018 MLB season.

              Odds Analysis

The Mets have a 49-66 record on the season but have actually been decent on the road with a 25-29 record. The Mets have struggled offensively this season, as their 452 runs scored is third-worst in the major leagues. Keep that in mine when the runline is unveiled.

The Yankees are 74-43 on the season, which is still the second best in the majors but unfortunately the best team resides in the A.L. East as well. The Yanks have a run-differential of plus-140 and the team seems to be primed for a nice postseason run. The Yankees are a sparkling 41-17 at home this season.

              Probable Pitchers

DeGrom is 6-7 with a fantastic 1.77 ERA and 0.96 WHIP. DeGrom has gotten horrible run support this season as he picked up his first win in six weeks last time out despite consistently pitching great. DeGrom got the win in his last start by throwing six innings of shutout ball against the Reds, striking out 10. DeGrom has 183 strikeouts in 152.1 innings pitched this season and is allowing just a .205 batting average against. He is one of the top candidates for the National League Cy Young this season despite the under .500 record.

Severino is 15-5 with a 3.11 ERA and a 1.10 WHIP. He has put together a good season overall but it was a stupendous season until recent struggles Severino had an ERA of 1.98 on July 1 but has given up three earned runs or more in each of his past six outings, including six in two different starts. Severino is a talented hurler but needs to get back on track. This is a good opportunity to do so against a suspect Mets offense.

              Injury Report

The Yankees are still without star outfielder Aaron Judge, who is on the way back from a wrist injury. Catcher Gary Sanchez is also shelved due to injury, which has taken away a pair of big bats in the lineup.

The Yankees still have a lot of potent options, led by slugger Giancarlo Stanton, but they aren’t quite the dominant group of earlier in the season. DeGrom has the stuff to slow down any hitter, but the absence of Judge and Sanchez will make life easier on him in this one.

              Free MLB ATS Picks

DeGrom is a dominant hurler but this is a tough matchup and the Yankees figure to scratch across a run or two during his start. If the game is close once the bullpens take over, the Yankees will be in good shape. This will follow a similar pattern as DeGrom should pitch well but end up with a no-decision as the Yankees come away with the win in MLB gambling.

MLB ATS Pick: Yankees 4, Mets 3

                • Braves' Acuna leads off each half of doubleheader with homer
                  August 14, 2018

ATLANTA (AP) Ronald Acuna Jr. pulled off one of the rarest feats in baseball history, hitting leadoff homers in both games of a doubleheader to send the first-place Atlanta Braves to a sweep of the Miami Marlins on Monday.

The 20-year-old rookie hit an opposite-field drive into the Braves' bullpen in Game 1, powering Atlanta to a 9-1 victory. Haitian-American Touki Toussaint (1-0) pitched six strong innings to win his major league debut.

It was more of the same from Acuna in the nightcap. He sent a towering shot into the seats in left-center, sparking the Braves to a 6-1 victory behind another strong outing on the mound from Mike Foltynewicz (10-7).

Acuna appeared to be only the fourth player in big league history to hit a pair of leadoff homers in a doubleheader.

Merandy Gonzalez (2-1) took the loss in the second game after being called up from Double-A Jacksonville for his first career start.

Acuna hit his first leadoff homer off Pablo Lopez (2-3) and added a two-run double in the sixth, highlighting a five-run outburst that turned the game into a blowout.

                  CARDINALS 7, NATIONALS 6

ST. LOUIS (AP) - Paul DeJong handed Washington its second straight walk-off loss, capping a back-and-forth finish with a game-ending solo homer in the ninth inning for St. Louis.

DeJong took Koda Glover (0-1) deep on a 3-1 pitch. A night earlier, Ryan Madson allowed a game-ending grand slam in the ninth to the Chicago Cubs' David Bote to end a 4-3 defeat.

Matt Carpenter kicked off a wild ending with a three-run, go-ahead homer during a four-run eighth inning for the Cardinals. It was his 17th homer during a 31-game on-base streak. Carpenter has homered in seven of his past 10 games.

Washington tied it at 6 in the top of the ninth on RBI singles by Daniel Murphy and Matt Wieters off closer Bud Norris. Dakota Hudson (3-0) stranded two runners.

Jedd Gyorko sparked St. Louis' big eighth inning with a homer off Justin Miller. Jose Martinez had four hits for the Cardinals.

Washington's injury-depleted bullpen has blown saves in three of its past four games. Juan Soto and Bryce Harper homered for the Nationals, who have lost five of seven.

                  METS 8, YANKEES 5

NEW YORK (AP) - Jacob deGrom struck out 12 and the New York Mets backed him in a big way, hitting five home runs while battering Luis Severino and the Yankees.

Amed Rosario led off this Subway Series matchup with a drive into the right-field seats and Jose Bautista, Todd Frazier, Brandon Nimmo and Michael Conforto later connected. The club's best power show since June 2017 sent chants of ''Let's go, Mets!'' bouncing all around Yankee Stadium.

Hurt by poor run support most of the season, deGrom (7-7) threw 6 2/3 innings and left with a major league-best 1.81 ERA. He allowed two earned runs and exited with a 7-3 lead.

Severino (15-6) was gone a lot earlier. Stuck in a rut that began before he pitched in the All-Star Game, the right-hander was tagged for seven hits and four runs in four innings.

Miguel Andujar hit a two-run homer in the Yankees eighth off Seth Lugo. Robert Gsellman worked the ninth for his seventh save.

The city rivals split their six games this year. This was a makeup from a rainout July 22.

                  INDIANS 10, REDS 3

CINCINNATI (AP) - Jose Ramirez connected for his 35th homer and Yandy Diaz hit a tiebreaking double in Cleveland's seven-run sixth inning against Cincinnati.

Ramirez, Michael Brantley and Yan Gomes had three hits apiece as the Indians won for the fifth time in six games. Melky Cabrera and Jason Kipnis each drove in two runs.

The Indians increased their AL Central lead to 12 1/2 games over Minnesota after receiving an update from team president Chris Antonetti on the status of outfielder Leonys Martin, who is recovering from a life-threatening bacterial infection. Martin is in stable condition at the Cleveland Clinic.

Tucker Barnhart, Scooter Gennett and Curt Casali homered for the last-place Reds. Homer Bailey (1-10) was tagged for five runs and 10 hits in 5 1/3 innings.

Mike Clevinger (8-7) walked six in five innings, but got his first win since July 1.

                  RANGERS 5, DIAMONDBACKS 3

ARLINGTON, Texas (AP) - Bartolo Colon won his first start since setting the record for victories by a Latin American pitcher, going five innings to help Texas beat Arizona.

Robinson Chirinos hit a go-ahead, three-run homer in the fourth to end Zack Greinke's streak of nine straight starts allowing two runs or fewer. Chirinos added an RBI single in the eighth.

Colon (7-10) retired 10 consecutive batters after allowing run-scoring doubles by A.J. Pollock and Steven Souza Jr. in the first. The 45-year-old Dominican right-hander got his 247th career win, two more than Dennis Martinez of Nicaragua.

Ronald Guzman also homered off Greinke (12-8), who allowed six hits and four runs in 6 1/3 innings.

Colon gave up four hits and three runs while setting a Texas record with his 22nd straight start with two or fewer walks. He has won both his starts in August after losing all five in July.

Jose Leclerc earned his second save.

                  ROYALS 3, BLUE JAYS 1

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) - Ryan O'Hearn homered and drove in a career-high three runs, Brad Keller threw seven strong innings and Kansas City beat Toronto to spoil Sean Reid-Foley's major league debut.

Reid-Foley (0-1) was removed after allowing three runs in five innings. He is only the second player in major league history to be born in Guam.

O'Hearn, a rookie who entered batting .130 with three RBIs, homered off Reid-Foley with Brett Phillips aboard in the second. O'Hearn also walked with the bases loaded in the fourth.

Whit Merrifield had three hits as the Royals got their second victory in 11 games.

Keller (5-5) yielded one run and four hits. Wily Peralta closed for his seventh save.

Devon Travis homered early for the Blue Jays.

                  TIGERS 9, WHITE SOX 5

DETROIT (AP) - Nicholas Castellanos had a career-high five hits, including a go-ahead homer in the seventh inning, and drove in five runs as Detroit beat Chicago.

Castellanos singled in the first, doubled and scored in the fourth, hit an RBI double in the fifth and hit a two-run homer off Jeanmar Gomez (0-1) in the seventh. It was the sixth five-RBI game of his career, including one against the White Sox on June 16.

Castellanos came up again in the eighth with the bases loaded and two outs, needing a triple for the cycle, but settled for a two-run single that put the Tigers ahead 9-5.

Louis Coleman (4-1) got the win with a scoreless inning of relief. The Tigers are 9-1 against the White Sox this season.

                    • Tuesday’s 6-pack

Odds to win the World Series:

                      7-2: Boston Red Sox

                      5-1: Houston Astros

                      6-1: Chicago Cubs

                      7-1: Los Angeles Dodgers

                      8-1: Bronx Bombers

                      10-1: Cleveland Indians

                      12-1: Oakland A’s

                      Quote of the Day
“While this transaction on the surface seems purely administrative, it caught us by surprise and is tremendously disappointing. Major-league starters have a strict routine that they adhere to that allows them to be successful; this roster move affects that. While the club may feel that they are doing what’s best for the organization, they also lose sight of the human element and how it will affect the player.”

Agent Tom O’Connell; his client (Phillies’ P) Zach Eflin is “being demoted” to AAA, even though he really isn’t, its a procedural thing. He won’t miss a turn in the majors, but he loses $20,000 in salary and nine days of major league service time because of it.

                      Tuesday’s quiz
How many current NFL head coaches used to play QB in the Arena League?

                      Monday’s quiz
Oregon Ducks play their home games in Autzen Stadium.

                      Sunday’s quiz
San Diego Padres play their home games in Petco Park.

Tuesday’s List of 13: Nobody asked me, but…….

                      13) The offensive/defensive coordinators in Cleveland either aren’t getting along very well, or they staged this exchange for HBO’s Hard Knocks:

Todd Haley, upset with the defense getting too close to QB Baker Mayfield: “Good teams don’t touch the fucking quarterback!”

                      Gregg Williams: “Block ‘em then!”

                      12) More on the Browns, this from USA Today:

“Cleveland Browns coach Hue Jackson said rookie receiver Antonio Callaway played so many snaps Thursday as a punishment for his recent marijuana citation.

Rather than discipline a player by benching him, as coaches often do, Jackson told reporters Sunday that he decided to go in the opposite direction, playing Callaway even when he asked for a breather.

‘I was trying to make him play the whole game if we could. I did not want him to come out.'”

                      11) This tweet from former NFL RB Danny Woodhead:

“If I’m an undrafted rookie for the browns I’m gonna make sure i get in trouble before the next game! Playing all game just gives you an opportunity to make the team! This isn’t a punishment this is a gift!”

                      Alrighty then.

                      10) From Baseball Reference: David Bote’s walk-off grand slam for the Cubs Sunday night was the first “down 3-0” walk-off grand slam since Samuel Byrd (Reds) off Cy Blanton (Pirates) on May 23, 1936.

                      9) Cardinals are 16-9 under interim manager Mike Shildt; they’re back in the Wild Card race and there’s an increasing chance that Shildt will become the full-time manager for 2019.

                      8) Brooks Koepka is the first golfer to win the U.S. Open and PGA Championship in the same year since 2000; his ranking is up to #2 in the world.

                      7) Chris Sale has an 0.69 ERA in his last 10 starts, striking out 109 in 65 innings; since June 8, hitters are batting .147 against him.

                      6) Not only are the Oakland A’s 36-12 in their last 48 games, their AAA team in Nashville has won its last 13 games, and is now 64-55 in the PCL. Sounds turned a triple play in their win on Sunday.

                      5) Chicago Bears finally signed LB Roquan Smith, their first round draft pick. Four years, $18M. Now the kid can get to work.

                      4) You can actually wager on who the starting QB’s will be at colleges whose teams have a QB controversy this summer, teams like Alabama, Florida State.

Wonder if anyone has a prop bet over where Jalen Hurts will transfer to if he isn’t the starter at Alabama after the Crimson Tide went 26-2 in his starts the last two years?

                      3) Why won’t the Mets bring 1B Peter Alonso? When your team sucks, its a good thing to give your fans some hope for the future by letting them watch young players play and hopefully develop into stars. Alonso hit .314 in AA, is hitting .260 in AAA, has 105 RBI between AA and AAA this year. I’m guessing Met fans have seen enough of Jose Bautista and Jose Reyes.

                      2) Giants’ rookie RB Saquon Barkley strained his hamstring in Monday’s practice. Not sure what exactly a “mild strain” means, but I know it ain’t good.

                      1) Jeez….Indians’ OF Leonys Martin has been battling a life-threatening bacterial infection that attacked his internal organs. He is currently in stable condition, and is improving.

We pray that he feels better real soon.

                      • LEADING OFF: Cano back from suspension, Acuna on HR streak
                        August 13, 2018

A look at what's happening around the majors Tuesday:

                        SET FREE

Robinson Cano is set to return from his 80-game suspension for violating baseball's drug agreement when Seattle plays at Oakland. The All-Star second baseman has been out since May 15, though he's been playing in the minor leagues for the past week. Cano is ineligible for the postseason if Seattle makes it, but manager Scott Servais hopes the 35-year-old can help the Mariners get there as a versatile piece around the infield. Servais said the team will work Cano in slowly, getting him reps at first, second and third base.

''We need to be smart in breaking him in,'' Servais said. ''He wants to get going, he wants to contribute right away. He's missed playing, he's missed his teammates and being around this whole thing. I know he wants to come in and do a lot. But again small little things.''

Seattle entered Monday 1 1/2 games behind Oakland for the second AL wild card.

                        ROLLING RONALD

Ronald Acuna Jr. is the youngest player to homer in four straight games during the live ball era, according to ESPN, and he'll go for five when Atlanta hosts Miami. Acuna homered to lead off both ends of Monday's doubleheader against the Marlins, making him the first to do that since Baltimore's Brady Anderson in 1999 and just the fourth to do it overall, according to the Elias Sports Bureau.

                        MAKING PROGRESS

Kenley Jansen is back with the Dodgers and preparing to return to action sooner than expected after being diagnosed last week with an irregular heartbeat. Jansen threw a light bullpen session Monday and will also throw Wednesday and Friday this week. Jansen expects to return much sooner than the initial projection of 4 to 6 weeks, though he says he may still require an ablation procedure on his heart this offseason. He had a similar operation in 2012.

                        CENTRAL SHOWDOWN

The Cubs and Brewers begin a pivotal two-game series at Wrigley Field. Milwaukee is three games back of Chicago for the top spot in the NL Central after David Bote's game-ending grand slam pushed the Cubs over the Nationals in the ninth inning Sunday night. Jhoulys Chacin (11-4, 3.91) will pitch for the Brewers against Jose Quintana (10-8, 4.28), who gave up five runs in a 9-0 loss to Kansas City last time out.

                        NOT VERY VERLANDER

Justin Verlander tries to bounce back from his worst start of the season when Houston hosts Colorado. Verlander allowed six runs in two innings against the Mariners last time out before getting ejected for arguing a balk call. Verlander allowed three homers in that game and has given up 10 in his past five starts - compared to 12 in his first 20. German Marquez (9-9, 4.69) will start for the Rockies.
